Very early in my Angelhood I brought 2 friends over to their big screen with The Barefoot One's cute smiling little image paused at the beginning of this recording..they recognized the intro and started clucking something about how only grownups should be allowed to sing this song....I shushed them and they did not UTTER A SINGLE SOUND for the next 4 minutes and 38 seconds.

Poolhallshark, this was posted when Angelina was 13 yr 2 mo, I know she sometimes waits a while before she posts them but every time I, & others, have asked fans that insist that she's 12, how do you know? But no one ever replies. Did she post something on FaceBook or somewhere else indicating she delayed posting it for months after it was recorded? I usually say she's around 13 (either almost or barely). If you have any information about this I would love to know.
At this age she struggled a little bit on the highest notes, but a few years later she mastered it at her performance at the Norwegian TV-show "Allsang på Grensen".
Thats unbelievebel, angelina has do thaat in the age of 13, she makes everyone stunning with her voice and music. Great reaction - great work by Philip - he has a good ear and terrific technical skills! Angelina clearly hold her own here, though perhaps pushing to her limit in parts. I get the feeling that she chose to do this song as she was going to meet up with David Foster at a charity event, as it turns out, David wanted to hear jazz, so she sang lean on me... As her final summer concert last year at Kurbadhagen, after a full set of 15 songs she gave us three bonus songs - this was the last one. She had the passion and the energy to deliver an incredible performance. She dedicated it to her grandma - she has nothing if not for her grandma...

That picture is from her first attempt in creating an online tribute to Whitney Houston,and at that age i know it was pretty much for fun,and the fact that she knew how much Grandma Mery loves Whitney. I learned to experience that with Angelina,if she doesnt call it her cover of a song,then she is not done practicing it,working on arrangements,composing her version of it. I also believe the audio is from her tribute,where i have to admit that i heard her not finished developed vocal chords had some slight crack on them whenever she tried to go for the highest notes. You could tell that she was not afraid to go for them and test herself,but she seemed like she had trouble "keeping up",but only on small parts. But rest assured,Angelina can go seriously high theese days,if she wants to. Although its considered "out of her comfort zone". Or at some point she was,in the actul cover of this,she is in complete control of every note,and oozes of confidence! I believe you reacted to it already,although i cant be sure as i have watched TONS of reactions to it,so i tend to forget fast who has done what lol. Thats what i have been thinking too,who in theyr right mind would compare a pre-teen with a fully grown woman,but with that said,like YOU said,Angelina held her own. A few spots with improvement potential,wich she came back and did flawlessly on the actual cover,once her vocal chords had grown and developed even more!
Nothing better than opening the morning with your wonderful Angelina reactions! I believe that her diction was more due to artistic choices and experimenting than vocal limitations. For example, in many songs Angelina dropped consonants at the end of words in the middle of musical phrases. A hard consonant breaks the flow and musicality, which is her top priority. Awesome reaction and that is why she is called "The Singing Angel Of A 1,000 Voices"! If you listen closely on all her covers, some where during her singing you will hear somewhat of the voice she is covering. She always pays Homage to the Original or Artist she is covering with so much respect. She really doesn't realize how good she is. She has too much Empathy and Humbleness, she never will! To me she is going down as One of The if not The Greatest Vocalist of all time, God Bless!
The next time Angelina sang this, she lowered the key and it sounded even better. It was a live outdoor performance. Then when she recorded it in the studio-perfection! Be sure to watch that one also!
I was always a huge Whitney fan and saw her live at Wembley Stadium in the 80's at her real height and it was spell-bounding, a night I will never forget, Angelina would without any shadow of doubt nearly 40 years on give me that same level of excitement. With Angelina it is like having a musical rebirth as she covers all the greats to perfection. Britt Loving your choices.

Britt, that was an amazing and fun reaction. It is a trip. A 13 girl trying her back,phrasing skill on a tribute to WH and you have fully vocally mature woman in he prime and Angelina was at east on par. Angie was recording this at her little home made studio at the time. While this was WHmbig production for the album and soundtrack. Angie could only go up from there. I bet anything WH, if alive would be proud of her and even want to sing a song with her. I bet you would just die for that 🙂🤯. Just a little correction. In her younger version used here AJ does not sing “don’t you dare.” So the voice over in the mashup either comes from Whitney or from Angelina’s later studio performance. p.s. This is another beautiful reaction done by a beautiful reactor!

Got another story. Smile Us old parts always got stories. I was raised with a meager background. My parents very good people. Never had seen the ocean. I was in my early twenties. Prime of my life. One of my friends. Was on college break. Working in ocean city Maryland. Been bugging me to come up and stay with him. So I went. Wow the ocean just amazed me. I was in love. The hotels back in the 80's would sponsor bands to play. So we went to watch one. This young beautiful lady walks out on stage. About my age. Beautiful eyes and smile. When she let loose. Voice of an angel. Was her debut. Was Whitney Houston. The next week. Her songs blew up the music charts. Real story. Everytime I hear her songs. My mind goes back to that day. Love her music.
Without the pictures it is very hard to tell who is singing.... Those voices are so, so similar. And Angelina sings songs not every time the same way, which is probably a nice challenge for the musicians which do the instrumental parts.
How many other singers who have covered Whitney Houston would be confident enough to be in a video mash-up with Whitney Houston? I know Angelina didn't make any of these mash-ups we're seeing on RU-vid and that in itself is a big wow factor that she is that close in skill when presented in a random mash-up.
This song was written by Elvis’s Girlfriend Linda Thompson who also wrote the duet for Celine Dion and Barbara Streisand. Who is in the Video with the two. But she wrote this song and some parts where inspiration in some of the parts of this song.

"Back phrasing" - a jazz technique. Angelina is using this at the start of the song. That's why it seems like she's a little behind the music. It's intentional. Excellent they ended with some video of Angelina. We see how she sings with her hands. Excellent reaction 🍁.

However, a distinction must be made here. Whitney's studio recording is the professional work of many studio engineers vs. Angelina's home studio recording at 13 years old, without any post-production or auto-tune support. Considering all that, the tipping of the scale will favor Angelina.
You have a lot of recent performance choices if you're interested in this song. Two at her recent Summer concerts last July 2022, the Video version she put out a few weeks later, and of course you saw the live Character Media one which I believe is the most recent.

Would be better to use AJ's latest studio version of the song -- but that can't happen, since she sings "I Have Nothing" in a different key now (E vs. G for WH). Still a great mashup. BTW you should listen to Sohyang's performance of this song -- it's absolutely sensational.

The best cover of this I ever heard is by Johnny Manuel on America's Got Talent. Besides his incredible singing, the audience reaction and the looks on the judges faces are a must see. Completely enjoyable video. Highly recommended.

I give Angelina credit for her performance - it‘s a difficult song but I‘m not a fan of her raspy voice. I can‘t agree that her choices were always good . When she gets higher she sounds harsh, losing her voice control a bit . Whitney’s studio performance was ok and technically better than Angelina‘s but not comparable with her live performance „billboard 1993“.
