Tomorrow night (Sunday), there is a television special on celebrating Billy Joel's 100th performance at Madison Square Garden. Sting will be performing with him. I'll be watching.
Hi Billy's song New York state of mind live at the old gray whistle test one of the best blues performances I've seen and I'm 60 + The old gray whistle test is a UK type of music venue like here was midnight special, soul train , American bandstand, ect, it also has a killer sax solo twice.
He is old enough to have been influenced by the big band leader era while navigating the newer rock style while being a classically trained pianist who loved the blues. Billy in a nutshell
I totally forgot to mention to her the ABBA musical, Momma Mia! And I forgot to mention Moonstruck. Where is my head? Lol. Your comment reminded me, so thanks! :)
Hey Britt, Tomorrow night Billy is doing his 100th concert at MSG. In celebration of it CBS is broadcasting it at 9pm EST. I'm sure he will have a few Big named guests there too! This is a MUST WATCH event!
3:47 this is an older Billy having fun. The originals are tight. You wanted a Billy Joel non-wholesome track and this is his diss track. He slays her from the Coke to the people around her.
Love this live performance. But. The video is worth reacting to. So. You can not only see. How young he was. The clarity of sound. The impact of the lyrics. Are very important in all his songs. Billy does not write throwaway songs. Please consider doing the original video.
You like and really enjoy Billy Joel as a performer. I have not had the privilege of seeing a live performance but I have 3 concerts I have recorded over the years and watch them when there is nothing worth watching on tv, which for the last couple of years is everything they broadcast now. I didn’t say singer or artist as every time he performs it seems he is doing the show for thousands of close friends in person. After saying that, what I wanted to tell you is Billy will be on CBS for his 100th consecutive performance at Madison Square Garden beginning at 8pm central time tonight Sunday 4/14/2024. Hope you read this before his show.
I love his variety- the classical Vienna, acoustical Honesty, acapella For the Longest Time, spiritual River of Dreams, rocking My Life. It just goes on….. 50 years of great music.
You should definitely check out some live performances of this song from when he was younger. Man was always the most feral during Big Shot. Jumping and spinning on his piano. Doing little flips off it. Abusing the mic stand in various ways lol. It's so fun and funny to watch. He's always a bit unhinged when he gets out from behind the piano (it's a containment device for the feral energy fr), but this song in particular is Always like that.
I liked your descriptor of Billy being the most feral during this song. I wouldn't have thought to use that particular adjective, but it's a great point.
You love "The Sound of Music"??!!?!?!?! Awesome!!!! Our whole family loves it as well as so many other classic musicals! You just rose several more notches in my view young lady! :)
I just want to say that I love your reactions, your so sweet and you don't have a dirty mouth which I appreciate. Also, I've noticed from other videos that that you're a believer, which I am also. Keep going sister!
The 100th show recorded live for Madison Square Garden is being replayed tonight also . Friday April 19th . Just in case you missed it last weekend, and for anybody else who didn't see the broadcast of the 100 show recorded live. P.S.... I only discovered your channel today, started off with a Righteous Brothers react of a gene Melody and then another Righteous Brothers song and then I I started off on other channels and somehow got a suggestion again about you reacted to Elvis and that's really what brought me back to your channel and going through your history and reading them all. I got to say I really enjoy your Channel now that I know how to watch your videos.
Hi Britt. Hey, there is one song that is not heard by many. It is one of Billy Joel's most beautiful love songs. It is titled "Untill The Night". It really is an amazingly beautiful song. Please try to listen to it. It will make you drop your...you know what's".
Listen to Big Jay McNeely (I've seen him 2-3 times a yr. in Berlin) - two sax players with interesting drive in their music - old as hell, but always a Funk devil on his shoulder. He played mostly with Detroit Gary Wiggins (= 2nd sax). I couldn't agree more - what you said about Billy J and music genres.
Not just a singer? A great singer, but an impossibly brilliant songwriter, and excellent musician. Billy's simply among the very greatest recording artists and performers of all time. BTW, no hip hop; no country; yes theatrical here. One out of three ain't bad!
@@danbev9313 Without hearing tones like you do when spoken, it is difficult to tell the attitude of how someone means something when written and it can often just be mean in a reasonable way, rather than anything 'Karenish'.
Japan has some of the most dedicated fans of American music, and also some of the loudest! Case in point, the band CHEAP TRICK: Live At Budokan... they recorded the concert for an album. When they went into production, they realized that the crowd was so loud that they had to go back and overdub some of the recordings so that you could hear the band over the crowds! Still an excellent album from one of the hardest working bands in Rock'n'Roll to this day!!&!
If memory serves, he wrote the song about himself and looking back at all the times he just had to be the life of the party and regretted it the next morning.....
You may want to find an earlier version of this song. It's a but different from how he used to perform it. It was released in the late 1970s and was about Mick Jagger's ex-wife Bianca.
IIRC this song was written about his partying with Bianca Jagger back in the 70's, the song came out in 1978. This has nothing to do with hip hop, country or Broadway song. It was all about Bianca having to be the center of attention with the cocaine and champagne at Studio 54.
Billy has said that the "Big Shot" he's referring to is not only another person...a nameless significant other...but also himself. He's scolding himself after nights of reckless abandon, when he just had to be the center of attention and took everything to excess.
hes about to do his 100th show at madison square garden and they are hyping the hell out of his music on ny radio. getting to the point where i change the station when one of the three songs by him that they play comes on...
If you haven’t seen it yet you should watch “Keeping The Faith” by Billy Joel. It looks like the grand finale scene from a musical. If you really want to see an interesting musical if you haven’t watched it yet watch it “Paint Your Wagon”. Not only is it a funny movie but you get to see tough guys Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood both sing in the movie. If you like a western flair and haven’t watched it yet there is always “Seven Brides For Seven Brothers”. It’s fun to watch and is regarded as a classic.
Listen, Britt, I love me some Billy Joel and glad you've been reacting to him. I also love Kenny Rogers (Mr. Sexy) as I know you do too. Like Billy, Kenny has a lot of different sounds. Please get back to Kenny and check out his song BEAUTIFUL, ALL THAT YOU CAN BE. The video is him with his real life son, Christopher Cody. It is such a beautiful song. Every parent will love it.
If you want to react to a musical, might I suggest "The Phantom of the Opera" by Floor Jansen (singer of the symphonic metal band Nightwish) and Henk Poort (singer who played The Phantom in the Dutch version of the show). OUTSTANDING!!!!
Love this song! Would love for you to react to his song You May Be Right (I May Be Crazy). :) I love musicals too! Feel free to react to them! Not sure which ones you've never seen. I've seen far too few for my own liking, but I love The Sound of Music (obviously), Fiddler on the Roof, Yentl, On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, Singing in the Rain, Grease, Annie (1982 version), The Wizard of Oz, The Muppet Movie, Chicago, and Brigadoon (wonderful!). These are all classics I've watched dozens of times. Some others I've seen a few times and enjoyed are My Fair Lady, Hairspray, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Mary Poppins, Funny Girl, and Victor / Victoria (another Julie Andrews musical). :)
This song was written after a dinner with Mick Jagger and his ex-wife Bianca Billy stated he wrote the song from micks perspective because he could tell Mike was annoyed with her expensive tastes
Rumor is this was written after an evening out at a party with his wife at the time, Christie Brinkley, where she was a bit....overbearing? Three sheets to the wind? and she embarrassed them both..
Since you like musicals, may I suggest you react to something from the movie South Pacific? Perhaps the songs "Bali Hai" or "Happy Talk" which are both sung by the character Bloody Mary (if you do, please get the versions with Juanita Hall's real voice, not the overdubbed vocals).
Musicals you say.. Here you go... How about the Rock opera by the "Who" Called "Tommy" huge hit. Let's see if there is any "Rocky Horror Picture Show" in the house.. made several people famous like Actress "Susan Sarandon" Ok let's go on back to the 60s to the first Rock Opera "HAIR" that had the singer "Meatloaf"
