FIRST TIME REACTING TO | Boz Scaggs "Georgia" 

The whole "Silk Degrees" album is great. Remember when it came out in 1976. It has a bluesy sound to it. Two of his most famous songs from that album are "Lowdown" & "Lido Shuffle". Some other songs are "It's Over", "What Can I Say", "We're All Alone", "Harbor Lights", "Jump Street" etc. "Look What You've Done To Me" was co-written by Boz Scaggs & David Foster for the 1980 movie "Urban Cowboy".

You should hear Love, Look What You've Done To Me or We're All Along. Both are beautiful

Boz Scaggs is a musicians player...he played everywhere but this album was one of his best..I grew up through all of this and I love to watch people of your generation as they are exposed to something new to them. You have much to chose from😎.

Oh boy Boz is in the house! I’ve seen him 3 times in concert. So glad to see this reaction. He could sing the alphabet and be great. I agree that you should hear Love, Look What You’ve Done To Me. Yes, the album Silk Degrees is a must for every music library, it’s in mine, along with several other of his albums.

Hi Britt, welcome to the Boz Scaggs rabbit hole. This is from the Silk Degrees album from 1976. One of my faves of all time and not a bad song on it. As was said, Lowdown and Lido Shuffle were a couple of the monster hits. Some history, Boz came from The Steve Miller Band (Joker), Steve taught Boz to play guitar. From the Silk Degrees album 3 people including the co-author of the songs with Boz went on to form ToTo (Africa/Rosanna) quite the lineage. Lots of amazing music from this triad of greatness. I didn’t check but you may have covered some of these and not know the connections. Enjoy the deep dive.

Bright Angel you'd love the song Miss Sun video from this same concert. His backup singer Miss Owens comes out and kills it with Boz. A must-see song.

Georgia was an underage beguiler. The narrator is in the slammer for his indiscretion. That is how many of us understood it back then. Personally I like his earlier more traditional bluesy stuff like Loan Me a Dime and as well as later stuff from the 80’s and 90’s. His album Some Change (1994) has excellent songs….Sierra is the one I would pick.

Farmerbill and dantallman below were correct, according to Boz, who at a concert I attended back in the 70's, stated that the song was about a friend of his who got mixed up with an underage girl (unbeknownst to him) and ended up in jail.

You picked a good live selection of this song. This is from his 2003 show at the Great American Music Hall in San Fran. This whole show is TOP flight! Beautiful venue, awesome band and his backup singers, Barbara Wilson and Monet Owens are superb! Boz lets them put an exclamation point on at the end of "Look What You've Done To Me" that is a must see. This is a beautiful love song. And the girls are AMAZING! Please check it out.

Although this is a good live version, nothing compares to the "Silk Degrees" studio version recorded in 1976. Toto's David Paich (keyboards), Jeff Porcaro (drums), and David Hungate (bass) were the studio musicians on this great track. Jeff Porcaro RIP.

I decided to watch the live one even though to me the studio version is usually better. It is though Bz, did a great job on live here. Anyway, Boz is NY favorite artist and I've been listening to him since the 70's. But, I think is Georgia he is saying, " Your daddy was high, the day he dreamed up you. " that's how I always heard it. A great line!

On the same concert, listen to "Love look what you've done to me." It will be your favorite song.

From the album Silk Degrees - whole thing is great. “Love Look What You’ve Done to Me” is a fabulous song from him (from the movie Urban Cowboy), you really should check that one out - hard to explain but I think sensual is a good word to describe it.

Oh, and no disrespect to Boz because I love his voice and his music, but I’ve always thought he sounds a bit like Kermit the Frog (& I love him too btw). 😀

Lol, it's not 'telephone me, dear'--though I never noticed that it actually sounds a lot like that. He want's his lover to explain ("tell them for me") to the authorities that basically she was the one behind whatever crime it was that put him away. The dramatic irony is that we all know that she's never gonna do that. I think 'Christmas in your eyes' suggests that she seems willing to promise him 'gifts' beyond his wildest imagination, but really she is luring him into committing crimes for which he will pay the price, and probably she will reap the rewards

This is a truly great song... one of my favorites. But many people don't realize at first that the song is about a guy with an underage girl (Georgia) ... and he winds up in prison as a result.... he's not asking her to call.... he's saying for her to tell the authorities that it was all legit.... either way, still a great tune!
