One of the things I love most about Carrie's version is that it's classic -- no changes to the melody, no modern runs, no ornamentation that doesn't belong. I never hear it this way because most artists are just dying to "make it their own" and let's be honest, can't hit the notes as written. Carrie's is hands down the most faithful version being done by a star of her prominence. Merry Christmas, Britt. I hope you and yours are happy and healthy.
Absolutely beautiful! Happy birthday to my savior. Love your reactions and the fact that you don't shy away from saying your a Christian. Merry Christmas.
My daughter sang at some of the same events as Carrie. And actually my daughter won a contest they were both in and we went to her aunt's salon to spend some is the money Cheyenne won. Lady had Carries picture on her table and told Cheyenne, "you must be an amazing singer because ny niece Carrie was in that and she can sing like an angel." And of course a few months go by and there she is on the tv making all of Oklahoma proud. My daughter became an RN and Carrie went to American Idol. Lol Anyway.... We lived in a neighboring town to Carrie when she was young. My hubby drove for the same company as her uncle and her aunt worked for the school my homeschooled daughter went to for her junior year. They are all just good decent, down home people. I never heard anyone have an unkind word about them or Carrie.
Nobody can do it like Carrie. She's definitely got the powerhouse vocals, but she most definitely can sing soft and angelic as well. Her song called Hallelujah with John Legend is one you should check out. Its a Christmas song and such beautiful imagery in the video.
She does a live vocal of all is well while like 6+ month pregnant at one of the Christmas specials. It was amazing! The long note held at the end is breathtaking
I love her and everything she does… she’s beautiful inside and out… my all time favorite along with so many others still has to be her performance with Vince Gill with How great thou art… you can feel our savior in that performance that makes it so powerful
She mastered this song . The vocal was stunning. What made it even more impressive is her closing of her consonants. Also his law is love and his gospel is peace. Wish people would listen to this . Seems that these days, people are focused on war and indoctrination. "Chains shall he break, for the slave is our brother, And in his name all oppression shall cease," this song was composed in 1847 . Unfortunately humanity is a slow learner because we still lean towards the inhumane. Good thing God is patient and Jesus is forgiving. Merry Christmas everyone.
Thank you for sharing! Every time CarrIE sings this song on any venue she does it perfectly! This was from her MCM Plus Special, My Gift( The Album) every song USA blessing. Merry Christmas to you and your family!❤️💚🙏🎄
Thanks for the laughter Britt. Your reactions are so fun. Hands down this is a beautiful version of O’Holy Night and perfect timing for you to share your reaction. Be Merry and Happy New Year to you and your sweet family. 🎉🎉
Merry Christmas Britt and family! My family always celebrated Christmas on the eve with church service, then home for opening presents! I think we sang this song every Christmas Eve! God bless you!
I love your reaction videos. You’re so authentic and it’s such a pleasure to see the joy in your face as you listen to these artists. Thank you for taking the time to brighten our days. Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas.
Not a Christian myself but this is one of my favorite songs, and not just at Christmas. There are so many wonderful renditions of it out there, in many different languages. I love the way Carrie has to hold the mike two feet away so as not to break it.
Not sure why she changed the lyrics, the second verse actually says "Chains shall he break for the slave is our brother and in His name all oppression shall cease." I think it's a beautiful sentiment that shows that even at humanity's worst, he still reigns.
Merry Christmas, Britt. I agree that there is something almost spiritual and ethereal about Carrie Underwood. And yet there is nothing holier-than-thou about her -- as witnessed by songs like Choctaw County Affair, Before He Cheats and Long Black Cadillac. Is it wrong to be an old man and still be in love with Carrie Underwood?
Great reaction Britt! If you like voice control, you need to react to the best version of this song. Bill and Gloria Gaither ft. David Phelps live (he is wearing a green sweater). I know you have reacted to reacted to David before, and he took you to church. Let him take you to Heaven! A world class tenor, with the voice of an angel! You better bring two church towels to this reaction!! Merry Christmas
Slight lyric change: chains shall he break, for the slave is our brother, and in his name all oppression shall cease.... it was a powerful statement at that time! Which was 1855. In this version she sings "for the child is our brother." It hits a bit differently.
First if all I want to say Merry Christmas Britt to you and your family and yes Carrie looks like a Angle and sings like one you don't know if you will react to videos tomorrow cause it is Christmas Day but if you do please react to Carrie Underwood and John Legend song Haulligh it will blow your mind away they took music video of the year at the CMT awards
I can’t believe you have t looked at Dan Vasc his masterpiece O holy night we are waiting you won’t be disappointed it came out the 21 st it has exploded hurry
Give a listen to “My Son” by Gary Morris. Gary is a country singer who charted several hits in the 80s, and has an opera caliber voice. The song My Son is a conversation between Mary and Jesus as she is trying to understand and accept why He was chosen to carry the load. I’ve never heard it from this point of view.. Gary Morris’s music would be worth a deep dive if you can fit it in. I have several favorites.
Carrie is a great singer, great reaction. I wonder why she changed the lyric, chains shall he break for the slave is our brother and in his name all oppression shall cease, to, chains shall he break for his child is our brother?? Just wondering.
They auto tuned this so that it removed her country twang out. She is a very talented singer and it wasn’t necessary. One of my favorites of this is by Gail Ann Dorsey, and it can be found on RU-vid. Merry Christmas to all.
I actually saw a video the other day, where they broke down this song with her singing it, and showing how it had alot of autotune,/pitch correct in it, the guy was honestly rolling his eyes it was so bad, and he’s a vocal coach.
This sounds auto tuned and pitch corrected, but I’m told she is a good singer. Wish they would stop running singers voices though computer software, but these are the times we live in.
I’m so sorry, Britt. Why they did this to Carrie is beyond me. It is a Pitch Correction nightmare! That’s why it sounds “controlled” it’s mechanical. The girl can SING but someone decided it wasn’t perfect enough for them and totally ruined it. When I heard it the first time I cringed and then Wings of Pegasus analyzed it and OMG. Humans can’t do that. That’s why great singers are great singers, they are human. That’s not Carrie singing, her voice is being electronically yanked to the “line.” Autotune and pitch correction is driving me crazy. I have Carrie’s earlier albums and believe that are natural and clean. This saddens me so, you can’t believe it. Please check out Wings and see what they did to her voice right before your eyes. Let Carrie Sing! Again! Here’s an example of a not autotuned not pitch corrected natural and modern voice. Keywords… Tori Holub Merry Christmas Darling It’s too close to perfect, yes. Merry Christmas! Here’s to better and real music. Joe
Hey Merry Christmas. That was really very good, she is a terrific talent ever since she appeared on American Idol, but it still isn't as good as the Thomas sisters performance.
Unfortunately this vocal is bogus because it was pitch corrected or autotuned as pointed out by "Wings of Pegasus" The words are muffled by pitch correction. Too bad, it probably wasn't needed.
Britt, I hate to be the one to disallusion you but this performance is autotuned. Wings of Pegasus did a pitch correction analysis of Carrie singing this same song two years earlier and they sound identical. It’s a shame what they are doing in the music industry these days. I suggest you go to his channel so you can see for yourself what I’m talking about. It’s why there’s no emotion in her voice. She almost sounds like a robot if you listen really closely. Compare this to someone like Angelina Jordan who NEVER uses pitch correction or autotune.
