Song is special to Dimash, quote DI: "Because it contains all the sadness, all the suffering of the Kazakh people, it reflects the difficult times of the nation, very difficult work. It is difficult to do emotionally, not technically. The strength of this song is such that people who do not know the Kazakh language, without understanding the words, immediately understood what it was about. Because after it was performed, the audience sitting in the stadium reacted with a deafening storm of applause ... That's when I realized how powerful this song is!" This instrument is Kobyz, a Kazakh folk instrument and can often be heard in Dimash's works. Olzhas Qurmanbek is the master of the Kobyz game.

It's about a young man who was conscripted by the Russians from his home in the Samal Tau (windy mountains) region of Kazakstan in 1916. He wrote a letter to his parents, but dropped it and it later was found, telling how he was being dragged off to war, and the sounds of the instruments are like wolves, wind, etc.

This is wonderful! And its message! This is the Dimash I like so much, when he sings whit his soul and spread his essence. He is telling the sad story of a young soldier who must let behind his loved land and his beloved old parents alone... a war other people decides... walking to some far and stranger land. Regards to you, as always!!

When Kazakhstan belonged to Russia (In 1916/17, First World War), young Kazakhs were forced, by the Russian Empire, to leave their homes and fight 35 years until their total massacre. The story of one of these young people, who marches in despair to a war that is not his, in addition to the sadness of leaving his parents, elders, with no one to take care of and the certainty that he will never see the mountains ("tau") of Kazakhstan again. this wonderfully sad song! In addition to Dimash's talent, we have a wonderful setting and fantastic musician: Olzhas Qurmanbek, Master of Playing the Qobyz (Kobyz, which looks like a violin: An instrument of Kazakh-Turkish origin, sacred in Kazakhstan)

The Kobyz or kylkobyz is an ancient Turkic bowed string instrument, spread among Kazakhs, Karakalpaks, Bashkirs, and Tatars. The Kyrgyz variant is called the kyl-kyyak. The qobyz has two strings made of horsehair. The resonating cavity is usually covered with goat leather. Wikipedia

This is the same instruments from the beginning of stranger and throughout. In stranger it is in a key and Dimash himself put it in. The guy playing it was the expert. Here it sounds like te wild, wolfs and weird wind to me. I believe. The same guy plays it. They have ancient Kazak instruments in his country passed down from generation to generation. They also believe in reincarnation. When you hear this you believe it too.

I don't know if you've noticed but this man's music and the way he plays it doesn't seem out of this world, especially if you listen to this production well you'll see that even the instrumentation sounds very different from what we've all heard for decades. ..it's like they're being directed by an outside force...the vocal power this skinny 6'3" has is unbelievable...we could take all the famous pop singers in the world and have them sing together and they wouldn't fill the gap that this young singer fills with just his voice and his presence...it's a shame that there are so many millions of people in the world who are missing this and spend their time listening to the same thing for decades...it's a shame. And at this moment where the world is on the brink of an unprecedented catastrophe just because of man's greed, where human life does not matter, is when we most need to listen to someone like this blessed being who gives us his love and talent and thus power. have a moment of mental relaxation... still You have to destroy us.

I appreciate the comment that music is universal and that he is proof of that even if you don`t understand what he is saying, but it would be much appreciated if you would turn on the subtitles. He purposefully chooses every vocal texture to serve the lyrics with everything he sings. This song in particular is a kazakh folk song based on a painful moment in history. It costs Dimash emotionally every time he performs it. It`s worth being aware of the entire scope of his work that he puts into a song, and the lyrics are of major importance, they are what he serves with the vocal choices and the instrumental arrangements.

This must be your first time witnessing the power of the qobyz (kobyz). Olzhas Qurmanbeck has been described by Dimash as the best in the world on Qobyz. I wouldn’t doubt it. A traditional instrument from the Kazakhstan region, Dimash often includes qobyz in his music in order to further educate and promote Kazakh music around the world. Many of his Kazakh songs include qobyz, but the song Stranger (as debuted in August 2021?) features Qobyz predominantly at the intro. Lovely reaction! Cheers from Canada!

Samaltau, that translates “mountain breeze” is a kazakh folk song - written from the perspective of a young kazakh, leaving behind his beloved natal steppe and his elderly parents, when drafted by force by the russian empire to shed his blood in the russian army. (a tsar’s edict in 1916 ordered males of non-Russian origin aged 19-43 from the province that the Russian Empire annexed in 1867 - that included territories of today’s Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan - to join the russian empire`s army ; this led to famine in the territories where the men were taken away from, and to a huge revolt against the tsar, revolt which was stifled brutally. This is my favorite version for the Tokio Jazz Festival which was performed during the quarantine from Dimash’s home studio with two musicians. The instrumentation is amazing; the Kobyz and the flute called Sybyzgy - made of reeds or wood 50-70 cm with 3-5 holes, is particularly common in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. The instrument was popular with shepherds, although difficult to play, and was also used by storytellers, in this case perfect for Dimash who is a master of storytelling …. his singing creates an atmosphere so mystical and enchanting that takes you to that place where the story occurred . 🔝🔝👏❤️🎤🎻 Please react next to Adai+Daididau ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ra4v19Rp6cQ.html Traditional songs in my opinion are the best!!!

Your points in your analysis and reactions were well put. The song is about a young Kazakh recruited to fight in WW1 by the Russian Czar. I think Samaltau is a warm mountain breeze. He was marching and thi k about his parents.

The story is about a young man called to war and having to leave his family and elderly parents and the anguish he is feeling. Look up the story behind Samultau on another video. Enjoy your journey, you're fast becoming a 'Dear', lol. Love your reactions btw.x

I'm from Ukraine . I hear Dimash well, but you have a quiet sound - I set the maximum on the phone and I can’t hear your speech well. I just have hearing problems. Plus, I'm learning English with you). You are very charming!

This is the time of the first world war. The Russian Empire needed additional strength, soldiers. Therefore, on June 25, a decree was issued on the mobilization of the foreign male population aged 19 to 43 for defense and rear work. According to Wikipedia, 250 thousand people were to be called up from the Turkestan region, 230 thousand from the Steppe region. The population began to protest against the mobilization, then an uprising arose, which was brutally suppressed by punitive groups. From the sound design of the song, it seems that the events take place in the fall, when the uprising was crushed and Kazakh men continued to be taken to the war. What is it like to leave your loved ones and participate in someone else's war? Who was the young man who composed the song, history is silent. Perhaps he never returned to his native land. This piece of music shows the tragedy of not one person, but an entire nation. A total of 123 thousand people were mobilized by Tsarist Russia before the February Revolution of 1917.

Recommendation for another Dimash song: Qairan Elim, also sung in his mother tongue Kazakh, it is inspired by the painful times his beloved homeland had to endure during the worst time of the Covid pandemic. The music video is stunningly beautiful showing the dramatic landscapes of Kazakhstan, and loaded with painful symbols leading to a message of hope at the end. Recommendation for a new artist: Diana Ankudinova, a (still) teenage singer from Russia who has one of the most unusual and enchanting voices you have ever heard. I recommend the song which gave her the first slice of fame, Rechenka, which she performed at a talent show for children with a difficult background, at age 14. She will transport you to the Siberian wilderness by nothing but the power of her voice.
