This track is so FIRE! This has to be the millionth time I've heard this song in my life, and I still get fired up with goosebumps Every. Single. Time. So good.
I hear y'all. I'm almost 31 years old now, so I was pretty young when this came out, but here we are and I'm STILL ready to fight when this song comes on, haha. EDIT: I couldn't imagine what it would be like to be almost 30 and hear this for the first time with so much shitty rap/hip hop today. My mind would melt out of my damn skull...
Agreed Tiger. However... if you are liking this comment, and haven't liked the comment by @greendrop gamer go do that now. At the moment it has about 100 more likes. Let's make sure Shaq reacts to this song. :-) *Edit*... I scrolled and scrolled and can't find the post by greendrop game anymore, so I guess disregard my initial statement.
The Eminem Show is one of the greatest albums of the whole music history. It's the greatest rap album and Soldier is the best rap song. You can feel the fire with Em's flow.
@@1337soundeZ the beginning of MMLP is arguably the greatest opening five song stretch ever (Kill You, Stan, Who Knew, The Way I Am, The Real Slim Shady). I’m not sure anybody can top that. But start to finish, nothing is even close to TES. And because it’s been 20 years people have either forgotten or are too young to appreciate the full context of this album. Soldier has a skit before it and Say Goodbye Hollywood after that are a trio about the Guerra incident which is understandably lost on most people reacting to it now. I saw a similar reaction to White America that didn’t realize the context of 9/11, Congress, the parental advisory label, etc. There’s not a bad track on the entire album, and there’s like a half dozen of the most iconic rap songs ever made on one record.
@@hillarymathers6322 I think his last like 4-5 records might be technically better so the genre has changed more than Em. But yeah when your album fillers are iconic hits you’re on a different level. They stuck My Dad’s Gone Crazy at the end of TES because of a silly line from Hailie and that’s one of my all time favorite songs so just no comparison to where he was at that time vs everyone else. That’s still true now in a way, he just hasn’t compromised his lyrical genius to fit what’s now quote unquote “mainstream”. Back then whatever he did WAS the mainstream.
CoDGplays those are damn good too, but that’s MMLP2 On baby: “Girl what would you do if I said your body was off the chain and I told you I smile every single time I saw your face... oil the blades” DAMN BRO THATS WILD 😂
It's random. When he is talking about Haille or more lovingly of his family, that's Marshall. Slim is when he is uncaged, ready to slaughter. Eminem is the Lyricist storyteller who drops bars and bounces in between Marshall and Slim. On the Kamikaze album, in the corner it said that it was produced by Slim Shady and Dr. Dre. He has all three personalities on the album. The Ringer, Fall, Lucky You, Greatest, and Kamikaze are Slim, Nice Guy, Good Guy, and Venom are Eminem, and Stepping Stones is Marshall.
When he said that he would never be Marshall again, he was referring to how he will never be able to go back to life before all the fame. In reality he will always be Marshall, but it'll never be like it was back in the day. Love your videos coach!
So what in the fuck is a list to me? I'm used to not being on it, I expect it out 'em Heck wit' em, I get my respect without 'em Ain't really been into diamonds since I put my first record out But I could put a chain around my second album And wear it as a neck medallion. -Eminem

Arguably his most underrated or overlooked track. He kills every verse on this song. I've been listening to this song since it came out and I still get goosebumps every time it comes on. It takes a lot for me to get tired of a song and I have never been tired of this one.
To respond to your question, no the "personalities" aren't dictated by time. I will explain: Eminem has gone by a few different names and has given a persona to each of them. They all exist and come up in different songs. Each of them can be attributed to a single defining characteristic. Marshall- Marshall is the real Eminem. He is the father of three girls, son of a mother with Munchhausen's syndrome and ex-husband of Kim. Marshall's songs are more emotional, vulnerable and more often than not, sad. Marshall doesn't do disses, instead he tries to make amends. You can see the authenticity and truth in songs like: When I'm Gone, Stan, Mocking Bird, I need a doctor, Hailie's song, Rock Bottom, like toy soldiers, and going through changes. He is the sad and happy part of Eminem, and the soul behind his songs. Shady- The Crazy but also pissed off Eminem. Unlike the other counterparts, he is strictly insane. His anger derives from frustration and/or boredom. Shady is the shock humor persona, saying things to piss others off. This persona comes from a place where Eminem was pushed over the edge and stopped trying to impress an audience. Instead he would try to do nothing, and attack everyone because he doesn't give a F***. He can clearly be heard on: I'm Shady, As the World Turns, Hi my name is, Canibit**, 3AM, We Made You, Big Weenie, A** like that and Crack a bottle. Shady is the persona that believes nothing matters, nothing is sacred and takes pleasure in both of those facts. Eminem- The rage and the depth behind his music. This persona is the persona who has something to say. He is often the one on diss tracks. Eminem, though his own persona, does borrow some attributes from the others for some of his songs. He is the majority of Eminem's career and is very well received. Since so many songs are Eminem's (go to sleep & Sing for the moment & Till I collapse) it would be too long to list all the ones that come to mind. To answer your question by attacking the source of your confusion, in the line "Listen to the sound of me spillin' my heart Through this pen, Motherfuckers know that I'll never be Marshall again" Eminem (as Eminem) is referring to how hip hop has corrupted his life and changed it so much that he will never become who he was before his career. This is a common theme in Eminem's lyrics because some days he loves the fact that he is a very successful and well-known rapper, but other days he is bothered by his success. He is annoyed that "I can't take a sh** in the bathroom without someone standing by it" "have the decency in you to leave me alone, when you freaks see me out in the streets when I'm eating or feeding my daughter to not come and speak to me" "I just want to be just like you blend in with the rest of the room" "Oh, but you didn't know fame has a price too That you're just now seeing the downside to" Note 1: Though I said they aren't dictated by time, you can see more of an occurrence of certain personas on some albums than others and this is because of the real life instances that were influencing Eminem at the time. I.E. Relapse is more of a Shady Album due to a recent drug overdose. Note 2: Each of the personalities are different, however on some songs you can almost see a blend of two. I.E. Careful what you wish for feels like Eminem and Marshall, where he is sad, but also has something to say. Note 3: There is a fourth lesser known personality called Ken Kaniff. Though he isn't a persona Eminem wears and raps with, he does have some lines in some songs and is mainly a character created to be gross.
@edwin younes To be fair it's songs like this that give the impression that Em pistol whipped him (with an unloaded gun so as to avoid deadly weapon charges) and then switched the story but. Who knows.
@@skillzz6345 Em saw a bouncer (Pistol whippin motherfuckin bouncer 6’2) kissing kim, and was arrested for allegedly assaulting him with an unloaded gun. That is what this whole song is about. If you listen to his skit The Kiss, it is a recreation of the whole situation
His real name is Marshall Mathers. Eminem is his stage name. Slim Shady is Eminem's alter ego. D12 was originally 6 members each with their own alter ego, his was Slim Shady (this made for 12 "members", hence the group name). When he says he'll never be Marshall again he's basically just saying he'll never go back to being that normal, quiet guy he used to be before finding rap.
No there's an old documentary that where one of the members said they were called D12 because originally it was supposed to be a group of the 12 best rappers/MCs in Detroit
@@kp-ls4kq yeah it was meant to be 12 members but they couldn't find 12 good enough mcs so proof decided that the 6 members should have alter egos. Eminems was slim shady, proofs was dirty Harry, kuvivas was roundel beane, Kon artists was Mr porter, swifts was swift mcvay, and bizarre was whoever the fuck he felt like on the day, Peter s bizarre😂
Hailie's song! Come on everyone. Shaq NEEDS to hear this track dedicated to hailey. EMINEM gives us a taste of those vocals and pours his heart out. Ive been posting this for weeks lol LIKE THIS!!!
Like white America, buisness, till I collapse, Superman, cleaning out my closet, square dance (a very underated song) are all on this album not to mention without me
When he said "pistol whippin' bouncer 6'2", that incident happened (Em claims it was a punch in Sing For The Moment ). So that part was kinda directed at someone. I think Em was around 29/30 when The Eminem Show was released, so maybe he thought his passion would be gone after that album, hence the "fire inside expires at 30" line. Or maybe he considered retiring back then, because of the "until I retire my jersey" line before it. Nowadays, he talks about how we've never seen how long someone can go for in rap, so back then (30) he probably never imagined he'd still be rapping in his mid-40s.
Yea and I'm pretty sure when he says "all you see is bitches comin out their halter tops running and ducking out the hotrocks parking lot you'll all get shot" pretty sure he had a confrontation with John gurrea at hot rock cafe can't remember exactly
@@mr.j150 i actually hadn't heard it in a long time but today i revised and forgot how amazing it is. a lot of his new stuff is wrongfully neglected and that is coming from someone who grew up loving n knowing with shady not marshal..
This was one of my favourites off this album. ‘These shoulders hold up so much they won’t budge, fold or fuck up, even if my collar bones crushed or crumbled I’ll never slip or stumble’ love that line. Pure testosterone!
@@keviebhoy3232 na its not. Even i thought that first but if u go deeper it's clear Rm is dissing wayne. Wayne always says he is married to the game, Em talks about how the game likes Em better.
Bro thank you I was waiting on this reaction for months please do next '' when the music stops" featuring D12 u won't be disappointed they all killed it 💯💯🙏🏽

Shaq comon man. You see this on top!!! Dr Dre, Eminem- forgot about Dre- Em wrote the whole song my guy. Get it. Get these likes up. Shaq hold it down for us in the Carolinas!!
Yo coach his different aliases have been not just album names but periods in his life. As a long time Stan who always had his cds on repeat this is my opinion. Slim shady was his hungry, rock bottom, I don't give a fuk, i want fame persona. Marshall Mathers was him realizing that with fame you lose some of your freedom and have to deal with the issues of being a celebrity which made him feel trapped. Eminem is him embracing his celebrity status and realizing that his voice is a powerful tool that can influence the rap game, politics and the new generation. Can i get some likes for wasting my time and writing all of this lol
@@ToxicBottledOstrichNostrils fav song from slim is "rock bottom" or "my name is" Marshal - beautiful Eminem - till I collapse , sing for the moment or soldier
One of my all time favorite Em songs. It's so damn hard to pick a favorite cause literally almost every track is great, which is fucking crazy, man. This, however, is one of his most underrated greatest all around tracks. That's tuff, coach 💯🔥
Come on coach you know what we want to see next : Eminem - As the world turns 🌎 . Only listened to it myself a couple weeks ago that shit had me laughing hard 😂

All 3 characters have popped in from time to time , no certain time frames , he started as Shady and tells his whole life story through his albums.....Beautiful is a good 1
Eminem is the best! He is relatable to all cuz most of us have been poor or dealt with shit and he makes it real and so we love him. ❤ I'm a soldier too 🙏
This was a very angry Marshall Mathers during this album, he was going through a lot of legal shit and strife with his mother and Kim, as well as getting arrested for gun possession.

It sounds like a record that's turnin too slow, that's why Em's voice seems somewhat deeper than normal, cuz "Soldier" is very much an up tempo song bro....
My cousin introduced me to Eminem with this album at 7 years old in 2002 and I was hooked straight away. That was the influence to the rap scene other than fort minor, I listened to it every day learned all the lyrics then I found out about Ice Cube and Royce da 5'9 and I was cemented in to rap music. Grew up on rap and it taught me everything, helped me become a man very early on in age Eminem was like an older brother and gave me all the tools to survive in a low income fight or die environment. Rap music is a major reason I'm still alive to this day. 🙏

Shaq this is like a chopped and screwed Soldier for RU-vid copyright most likely, the real song sounds different (and way better). Em's voice in particular. With that said, Soldier is probably my favorite Eminem song and I am a big fan from Detroit. It's worth giving the real version a listen and I would definitely love to see it! My next recommendation: Campaign Speech. It's ridiculously lyrical as fuck and those are great to react to brah.
