Every topic George discussed as a problem in the 80's and 90's is an even bigger problem now.
@genostellar
@genostellar Год назад
I like how "now" consists of more than 2 decades. You remind me of this one radio station that does the same thing. Mentions the 80s, 90s and today, as if the noughties and the 10s are still a part of the present.
@shaybradad6150
@shaybradad6150 Год назад
@@genostellar Unlike those radio stations, I don't consider "now" to include the past two decades. My comment was specifically linking his commentary of the 80s and 90s to our current world. I do, however, realize that many of these issues did exist (and often worsened) during the 2000s and 2010s.

@@genostellar You do make a valid point, despite being a bit rude. I do think the 2010's are still recent enough and have enough in common with the 2020's to be considered the present, although that will probably only be true for a few more years. But 2000-2009 is definitely 'the past' now. It shares more in common with the 80's and 90's than it does with the past 13 years, mainly because the smartphone and social media didn't exist for most of it.

Instead of getting offended and sitting there pitying himself Carlin came back with avengeance and proved who he was. Took that motivation and came out back on top again. 1-hour photo finishing: Back in the day (hey, I'm old. I can use old, worn-out phrases), film was kept in a roll of anywhere from 12 to 36 pictures. It might take up to a year to take all of the photos, as no one would pull the film early and leave some exposures unused. Hence, quick finishing was popular, since a person might not remember what the first few pictures were.

Obviously, 95% of everything coming out of his mouth would get you canceled now. And I'm sure some people may be genuinely offended. But if you're a Carlin fan it's fun to imagine how scandalous his response to being canceled would be. He would likely deliberately escalate the outrage aimed at him, and then critically analyze & expose how some of the loudest voices crying foul are actually insincere and making noise just to hear their own voice.

Before 1-hr photo finishing, or at least in small towns where we didn't have such places, you put your film in an envelope and MAILED it off. A month or so later your pictures came back and you could see how many were out of focus, had heads cut off or people cut out of the picture, or you just had your finger in the way of the lens when you snapped the pic. Too late now. So you usually took at least two pictures of everything, hoping that one of them would turn out decent.
@moni13000
@moni13000 Год назад
I think back in the day the excitement to have the photos that quickly was because you wanted to share them when people asked you about an event or vacation you just had. It was a lot more fun and dramatic to have the photos to prove how cool or beautiful it was while you were explaining it to them. You'd have to wait for the next time you saw them to pull out your vaca photo album. lol. I always used to scoff at how older generations will say, "things were better back in the day, simpler." But honestly, when it comes to things like that, I agree. I do like having the photos to show right away, but considering everything else that comes with it now, I would be willing to go back and deal with the wait. There's a lot of amazing and great things that come from our advanced tech now, but I really wonder if we're better off without it still. I know George would have a lot to say about this world. And I'm sure that he would still shock us with some deep truths that we weren't expecting. It's sad and ironic that a comedian is the one person I look to for truth instead of politicians and religious leaders- the people who swore to serve us and work in our best interest. Love the George reactions! Keep them coming!

George Carlin’s last HBO special was a live performance that aired on March 1st, 2008, which was less than 4 months before he passed away on June 22nd, of 2008. So, he was still with us back when the original iPhone was released on June 29th, 2007-but that version was actually kind of lame, because it didn’t have the AppStore until the iPhone 3G (which was my first iPhone, that’s why I remember the AppStore being a big deal) which was released on July 11th, 2008. So, George just barely missed out on seeing the very beginning of the Smartphone era, which would’ve given him plenty of things to mock if he had lived long enough to write another comedy special. He also missed out on seeing the end of the Bush administration and see Barack Obama make history with his election. It’s just crazy to think how much has changed since he’s been gone, because that was 15 years ago and so much about the world is so different than it was compared to back then. These damn Zoomers don’t even know what it was like texting on a flip phone or calling a landline to speak with a friend or leave a message with a family member or the machine. I’m glad that my college career was wrapped up shortly after that, because I would be super annoyed dealing with people that are as online and in their phones as they are now when I was that age. We still met people in person back then, not as much as a few years before that, but I’m gonna say that the year 2008 was a very big turning point in modern history, and sadly that’s where the rise of Trump began with all his Birther bullshit, and then when Obama and Seth Myers roasted him at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner in 2011, that was what pissed him off enough to run. He obviously missed out on running against him, but he ran entirely out of spite and to tear down anything Obama did to destroy his legacy. He did a lot of damage in four years, but he didn’t wreck everything and Joe is getting shit done more than anyone has in their first term. If George was alive today, he’d be 86, but I don’t think his heart would’ve lasted through four years of Trump and I’m bummed he missed out on seeing Obama get elected, so he could go out knowing things were in good hands (at least for a little while).

Hey, Britt. Love your comedy reactions. Would love to see what you think of "Women, Know Your Limits" by Harry Enfield. It's a very short skit from a TV show from the BBC in the 90s set as a PSA for females in the 1940s to not educate themselves. There's a whole bunch of them, but this one's the best. Cheers from Australia.

I bet if George were alive today, he'd be roasting people who take pictures of every damn thing they eat to post it on IG, and people who make duck faces for selfies. People have died taking selfies at the Grand Canyon. We really are stupid. 🤦‍♂

Idk if anyone else clarified this, but he died in 2008. Also you should check out his stuff on religion and euphemisms, they're hilarious.

I'm not sure there's another comedian that wouldn't put George on the Mt. Rushmore of comedy. He was an absolute juggernaut, and his material is only more and more relevant over time. Would love to see you react to his "bad news" bit.

@@paulstewart11 Thank you Paul for acknowledging his incredible comedic ability and machine gun delivery. You couldn't ever heckle that guy as he'd immediately without a second hesitation put you in your place. I've never seen a comedian do that with such timing and finesse. Yes, one of the best ever. I can't wait till our beautiful reactor gets to Rodney material.

Hi, Britt :) My friend in Canada hears voices in his head, but they never tell him to do anything dangerous. The worst thing he's ever done is strip naked and run down the hallway of his apartment at full speed. Dave is 6'1" and at the time he weighed 560 pounds... No that's not a mistake.

One is never in doubt about what is on George's mind. Unless you are a catcher at a baseball game, you should not wear your cap backwards. George passed away in 2008.

When I was a teenager in the 70s it was a big deal to take a picture. Everybody has to get dressed up wait for the film to load stand "Cheese" then take the film to the photo booth wait a hour most the time the next day or so. Then you get the half was horrible with ghost floating around in the background.
