@@Malhaloc It seems to me that the most likely case is that Jesus is an allegorical figure (like Adam and Eve), and is more than likely what we would call a mosaic character (a character based on different figures. Some historical, some mythical) just like Moses, Robin Hood and King Arthur.

@@Malhaloc If Jesus ever existed at all the historical Jesus was a random preacher and faith healer who did nothing but perfectly mundane things like all the others but managed to become notable to the people at the time. @Malhaloc
@Malhaloc Год назад
@@immortalfrieza You'd be hard pressed to find a historian who doesn't believe that Jesus was a real person who was crucified. In most discussions, even with atheists, that's not even a debate. The debate is about the supernatural aspect. So how do you handle Jesus' claim to be God?
@immortalfrieza
@immortalfrieza Год назад
@@Malhaloc "So how do you handle Jesus' claim to be God?" First, one needs to prove he personally ever actually claimed that he was God. Second, Jesus would subsequently need to prove with actual evidence that he not only is God, but that God Himself exists. The claim is massively more likely to have never occurred and was made up by Jesus' followers to make him look good. If Jesus actually did say so that doesn't prove anything than that one man believed himself to be God. Jesus would still have to prove that he actually is God for that claim to be true.

Great great reaction, I wish there was more Christians like you, I am an agnostic myself, left the church (Catholic) when I was 17 and never looked back. You remind me of my Dad and sister though, the former being a compliment I don't give to many. He, and my mom but more begrudgingly, told me my senior year in high school that they didn't think I enjoyed church any longer and that I didn't have to attend. They told me and my sister when she was older that they wanted us to find our own path in life, and to choose it as we say fit. They only asked that I carry on being kind, generous loving to all people no matter what and carry with me the morals they tried to instill in me growing up. My sister stayed with the church, and not once has my parents or sister judged me or tried to guilt me over my faith or lack there of. Keep up the great work!! What is interesting here, is that George left Catholicism to become a sun worshipper. However, it may be demonstrated that Catholicism is a sun-worshipping religion, inheriting much from Mythraism at the end of the Roman Empire. So George left a sun-worshipping religion, to become a sun worshipper.

If they had a good reason, they would offer that as justification for their belief, not "faith". @learobinson4450
@learobinson4450 Год назад
No. There’s a big difference between being Spiritual & religious. Being Spiritual is believing & having faith in a Higher Power. Religion is the hierarchy, ritual, dogma & ceremonies centered around the belief & was created by men. One can Spiritual without practicing any religion. You can believe in God(s) and not go to Church or Temple or Synagogue. You can believe in God(s) without going through with any of the rituals associated with organized religion, which was created by men to control & manipulate others. You can also practice religion without any true belief in God(s). You can pray & light candles & say the rosary without any real conviction that there is actually a God to see & hear you. Spirituality/Belief/Faith & religion are two separate things. You can have one without the other.

I was raised in a household of a mom who was a Missouri synod Christian (but also naturalistic hippie mom) and a atheist dad (in the late 70s early 80s) I always complained that dad didn’t come with my mom, my sister, and I to church. He did come to our baptism (I guess we were converts) but he stayed away from my confirmation. I eventually started to ask questions ( I’ve always had a science/nature interest thanks to both of my parents) and my dad straight up tells me that I have to go to church because my mom wants me to. I also have to read the Bible because she wants me to. But that it’s absolutely okay to have questions. That I should ask her and the church elders and everyone else at the church my questions. If they can’t answer them then he and I will go to the library and research it. But most importantly that I needed to read the Bible. That has stuck with me. Reading the Bible and then discussing it with people that are supposed to be experts especially those that also have a science background are absolutely frauds. These people him and ha and move goal posts better than any lawyer… those rationalizations and bull shitting should become a Olympic level sport. The arguments I had with the high school Sunday school teacher who was a biology professor at the local college was epic. I have no idea how he was even a professor. His understanding of biology was legitimately biblical and not scientific. Ultimately I passed off both of my parents and became a pagan in my late teens and early 20s but still with a big focus on biological science. I’m a atheist today in my late 40s I still read the various study bibles and they still maintain my skepticism. I highly encourage you and all that may get mad at me to actually read the Bible by yourself without anyone to explain to you the supposed true meaning. Considering that every sect has a true meaning that’s a lot of true meanings.

For example if I purpose spending money on an outrageous defense system to defend against the purple dragons, that money might actually be better spent fighting hunger, or poverty. I am an atheist myself, but during my college years, I was more agnostic - I was leaving my Catholicism behind, but I still somewhat described myself as a Christian then. My best friend during those years was a practicing Sunni Muslim, and we spent a lot of our hangout time just listening to comedy albums, with Lewis Black and George Carlin being our favorites. When we listened to this special and it came to this bit, he was laughing pretty hard throughout it (and so was I). I remember him clutching his sides to try to keep the volume of his laughter down in the wake of the "...But he loves you!" bit. That said, there were three moments that stood out for him above all the others (including the one I just mentioned): 1) The point about praying during God's given day of rest (for Muslims, it is Friday). It made him reconsider his prayers, from the substance to the delivery. He still is a Muslim, but I know that a lot of his more religious habits changed (and it was for the better). 2) That God had to be a man because of all the problems in the world. In Islam, they do not assign any gender to Allah (it is still God, but I'm using their name for this), so calling Allah male or female is actually blasphemous (I might be exaggerating a bit on it, but it is along those lines). He remained open to Carlin's point, even if it might have mainly been nothing more than a thought exercise, and all he could do was...shrug and say, "I cannot exactly disagree with what he's saying. Those are actually good points." 3) Carlin's final closing joke. He nearly fell over with laughter when he heard, "May He strike this audience dead!" And then he actually did fall over with laughter at the "Oh, wait, got a little cramp in my leg," and he could no longer control his laughter for those final lines.
