The ironic thing about You Think is while International fans (called Sones) loved the song, it bombed in Korea - their worst selling title track by far. It seems like the Korean public wasn't ready to accept them as sexy women (most of the time they were the sweet girl group.) It was also their third release for this comeback (Party and Lionheart were the other two).
GIRLS' GENERATION / SNSD debuted when boy groups are dominating the kpop industry. They named the group "Girls' Generation" to represent the girl power! They are the only GG who can compete and won so many awards against BGs in their Era. They are so iconic. They are so versatile, they have different genres and they can do anything. They're the NATION GIRL GROUP OF SOUTH KOREA. S♡NE (sowon) is their Fandom name and the meaning is Wish. Mind you half of the girls are actresses now. If you watch all of their Variety shows they are so chaotic, silly and fun. ❤
In 2007 it wasn't quite as clear whether SNSD or Wonder Girls were going to be the biggest girl group. Tell Me and the monster hit Nobody certainly made Wonder Girls a bigger success those first two years (they even appeared on the David Letterman show, the first Kpop group on American TV - Rain was the first Kpop star on tv when he appeared on The Colbert Report playing Colbert in Dance Dance Revolution). It really was Gee that changed everything.
Girls Generation are probably the most legendary and historic Asian girl group, they were the most successful Kpop girl group for 7 consecutive years and the first viral Asian girl group.
I would say for Asian girl groups they were one of the two most legendary groups - AKB48 of Japan is the other - fifth best selling girl group of all time - and they produced 40 million-selling singles and 48 no. 1 songs in a row.
@@jamesrawlins735most of the sales are because of the handshake events, and other stuff like one-shot events. But I won’t deny that they’re famous it’s just that kpop is more famous than jpop. AKB48 got lots of great songs and it’s much more versatile than most Kpop groups like their concept always changing. People are just not attracted to them because of the fact that they got too many members and the whole generation/graduation/senbatsu/center/kami7/election stuffs
you guys said that run devil run reminded you american 2000 pop songs and fun fact, the song was suposed to be given to Kesha. theres also a demo in her voice
I love this deep dive! One cool fact about 'Forever 1' and is the main producer, Kenzie, is the same one from the debut song 'Into The New World' in 2007. And the bridge right before they hold up the trophy includes an instrumental taken from ITNW. So even though it's a modern SNSD song, it still includes a piece of their beginnings all those years ago. They came full circle.
Girls Generation are what follows from being iconic, an example is with their comeback The Boys made companies delay the CB of their idols for fear of competing against them, something that has never been seen before in kpop GG dominated in an era that was reigned by boy groups and changed history in kpop without a doubt they are Legendary Goddesses 😍✨️🔥
Forever 1 is a gift for their fans celebrating 15 years , the MV showing what they are doing e.g. actress, DJ, career in US (in the plane), solo, model etc
The boys has English version and it made them become the first Korean singers to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman. And when SM announced their comeback, the other companies had to put off their groups' schedules, which showed how powerful the girls were at that time
Amazing that both SNSD and Wonder Girls both appeared on American TV (Wonder Girls were on Wendy Williams in 2009). Both JYP and SM were trying to see if a Kpop group could breakthrough to the US - but it was way too early. Btw, Rain was the very first Kpop star on US tv when he challenged Steven Colbert to Dance Dance Revolution on The Colbert Report in 2008 (Colbert had a mock feud with Rain.)
@@prmsphie4443 What's wrong with you? Triggered by facts? 2NE1 did it better and broke into the US market with a greater impact than SNSD and Wonder Girls.
2NE1 may have been bigger in America (I don't know) but they certainly weren't better. I was born and raised in America, but I didn't really like what I was hearing on American radio, which was how I discovered first Japanese music, and then k-pop and then became a firm k-pop fan. I still am a k-pop fan though American radio has improved (somewhat) over the years.@@djvillan
Theo, you may appreciate knowing that in the bridge of "Forever 1," they sampled their debut song, "Into the New World." If you pay close attention, you can hear the opening keys of ITNW there. ☺️
FOREVER 1 shows what they're doing individually 4 are actresses and 4 are singers The song was released to celebrate anniversarry ❤ WE "SONES" (fandom name) Will always support our girls and their individual activities ❤
Girls generation is THE NATIONS GIRL GROUP. they are the most diverse girl group ever. they have the best japanese discography. they to be my ultimate bias group. They were always way ahead of their time both vocal and performance wise. Snsd r legends of k-pop I'm glad you're checking them out😄 Also I think snsd is like a treasure trove of wonderful work waiting to be discovered and appreciated. [live performance,Japan album, tour, sub unit, member solo ],except for teayeon, Tiffany, Jessica and Hyoyeon solo is also worth noting,Actually, the members of snsd all have very good solo works,They all have amazing talent. Girls' Generation MV History (2007-2017) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Zk3oKgNE1OQ.html PS:This video is useful to understand snsd's MV, I feel like a group as old as snsd, there's quite a bit of work that's easy to miss.
If you've read any of Sunny's comments, she never liked how SM made her sing. According to her, they didn't like her natural singing voice and made her sing in a different style that made her the "MSG" of SNSD. She also said that she felt demoralized about singing, which is one reason why she hasn't pushed for her own solo. I'm also guessing SM didn't really want her to do a solo (the thought is that she was overshadowed by so many of the other girls and wouldn't have the built in fan base to support a solo release), so at this point she's much more comfortable being an entertainer and appearing on variety shows.@@stevep1227
Definitely! They also mentioned how kpop sounds more maximalist now, and I'm pretty sure "I Got A Boy" is like one of the main reasons, if not the top reason for the change. That song is too wild, also the music video is sooo colorful lol
Thank you for reacting to SNSD! It’s so nice to see reactors getting into SNSD recently even though they are in the 17th year now. Amazes me that SNSD still has that power. I’ve been a fan of SNSD since 2011, so I remember when The Boys came out. It felt so weird when you said You Think is so 2014-15 era. It made me realize this song is 9 years old now even though I felt like this was a recent comeback
Girls' Generation is such a legendary group. I've been a SONE since 2009 and they're still my ult group. For their 15th year anniversary they released Forever 1 and that song has so many easter eggs. The melody, the lyrics.... I cried so much after listening it
Thank you for a nice review of Girls Generation. They were a major influence on KPOP and Iconic. Their vocal skills are wonderful. I would suggest you look at two other foundational girl groups: 2NE! and 4Minute. They also helped shape today's KPOP. 2NE1 is complex. They do club songs, bob, one rock version, reggae versions, ballads and other genre. 2NE1 has 4 members all 4 sing, all 4 dance, 3 of the 4 rap, and all bring high energy. Best into to 2NE1 is MAMA 2015 with CL.
Thanks for reacting to SNSD. Not a lot of people jam to them (or so I think) but they’re my ultimate favourite K-pop group ever. Every time I listen to them, it feels so nostalgic and so good. Thank you so much. Much love 🥺❤️
When you thought there was a Chinese or Japanese version, actually, there's an English version of The Boys GG didn't start that kind of concept like "You Think", but when they did, it really took on another level
The major difference in fashion during the 2nd gen compared to later (most obvious in the 4th gen) is that most of their outfits are customized, or custom made while these days the idols wear sponsored clothes or designer brands (sometimes with minimal customizations) especially those from bigger companies.
I feel so old watching those videos lol I got into kpop back in 2008 with TVXQ, SHINee, SNSD and then I got to know other groups. Now I only follow Stray Kids and Dreamcatcher but I still enjoy listening to other groups. It's funny that you guys got a Korean or Russian vibes from The Boys since it was actually a big turn for SNSD to go overseas and it was produced (?) by Teddy Riley, so the target audience was pretty much outside Korea. The other version is the English one. Forever 1 was a special comeback celebrating their 15 years, it's something we cherish a lot and it's really special for all SONEs to see all the girls back together singing and promoting even with solo careers now and busy schedules. I feel like it was a love letter for their fans and makes me think of their group greeting and fanchant "Right now, it's Girls' Generation! From now on, it’s Girls’ Generation! Forever, Girls’ Generation!" Maybe you guys should check GG's sub unit TTS (TaeTiSeo - Taeyeon, Tiffanny and Seohyun) Fun fact: There's a League of Legends character (Ahri) that dances Run Devil Run in the game and another one (Syndra) that dances Hoot, another song from SNSD
they debuted in 2007 with into the new world.. over the years they changed concepts to fit their age you think came out in 2015 but doenst do well in Korea.. but for international fans this might be one of the best songs they have
You Think is actually their worst selling title track - even sold less than Sailing (the animated mv for their 9th anniversary). The Korean public didn't want to see them as sexy women. I also think it being the third song of that comeback (with Party and Lionheart) was a factor.
"Run Devil Run" represents a change in SNSD's discography. There exists a story version of this video. This is linked to “Oh” in terms of content. Up to "Oh", SNSD's sound was rather cute, from "Run Devil Run" onwards their songs had more of a mature concept.
4:40 more than Britney, it should remind you more of Kesha since this song was written and produced for her album, there is a demo of her out there on RU-vid, but it was scrapped by her and SM bought the song for GG
FOREVER 1 was a celebration for their 15th anniversary and it was a really emotional comeback for them and for us SONEs🫶🏽 also about acting: multiple members are actresses! i’d say the one you saw recently was yoona since she was the lead actress in King The Land (2023) with 2PM’s Junho. but seohyun has also been in A LOT of dramas and she’s still an actress. sooyoung was recently in the musical “WIFE” other members have also been in musicals, like sunny, tiffany and jessica about jessica: she was “kicked out” of the group because, in 2014 she started her own fashion brand Blanc&Eclare and her schedule clashed with snsd’s schedule, causing conflicts with the company because she missed some stages. she was dismissed from the group in september 2014 if i’m not mistaken and left SM in 2015. there was some big drama among all kpop fans but especially us SONEs because she later (2020 i think) released a “fictional” novel about her life as an idol, but she basically bashed the other members, saying that they themselves kicked her out and stuff… so for a long time a lot of fans hated her but the other members have never talked about it to this day. so i personally support ot8 snsd and don’t hate on jessica, even if her writing that book was so messed up i’m not thr kinda person to go and hate on someone. especially now that it’s been so many years i just don’t really pay attention to what she’s doing and just hope she’s doing good anyway.
SNSD songs are written by many different people. Indeed, some individual songs (like "The Boys") are written by a number of people. Numbers are written by foreign writers (for example, quite a few are written by Scandinavian songwriters), and they will have Korean co-writers, as they need some/all lyrics translated into Korean. (Therefore, for a song to have only one writer, they pretty much have to be Korean).
Next time reaction SNSD in concert: catch me if you can, into the New world Ballad, divine,Mr Mr,karma butterfly and SNSD in smtown concert' Exo : killing voice, coming over, run this, drop that, power, mama, monster and wolf, unfair, tender love and love me right in concert 🙏🙏🙏🙏
As far as Jessica leaving the group goes, it’s kind of a messy situation and even now fans don’t really have all of the facts, but the briefest one sentence summary I can offer is that she and the group parted ways at the end of September 2014 due to conflicts between the group and her business/fashion brand Blanc and Eclare. You want more details, you can Google it as a RU-vid comments section really isn’t the place to discuss this.
Forever 1 was such a cool comeback to celebrate their 15yrs as a group. their last full group comeback had been on their 10th anniversary, so fans had been waiting a lot. The MV shows them in their solo careers (Taeyeon in her solo stage, yoona filming a movie, Hyo as a DJ, Tiffany on the plane represents her going back and forth from US to korea as she also has an american career, etc), the bridge samples the iconic intro chords to their debut song "Into the new world"... and yup lots of them have pretty acomplished acting careers so you probably did see them in a drama lol i wonder which one was it, on netlfix it could be Run On (sooyoung), Private Lives (seohyun). Sound of your heart Reboot (yuri), King the Land (yoona) i think thats it but i could be wrong lol
There are 4 active actresses(Sooyoung, Seohyun, Yoona, Yuri) and Tiffany (just budding actress). you might have seen Yoona (from the drama King the land) =)
Cant wait for more Girls generation reactions! ❤ this will be an amazing journey coz they have a lot of great songs including b sides 😊 would like to recommend also boy group Beast currently known as highlight, their discography is also great 👍 ❤
You keep calling Tae a legend but they all really are. Check out Ohwoowoo Girls Gen 2022. So many solo careers, actresses, models, musical singers, tv personalities, etc. Girls Gen why they are legends is on youtube. 2007- until now, almost -17 yrs. Thanks for checking out. ❤
Jessica leaving the group is very controversial topic.. SM ent didn't gave any statement why jessica left. Even jessica doesn't want to open up her past. The rest of the girls didn't talk about the issue too. As a S♡NE we don't really know what happen. We just moved forward, support the 8 members.😅
You're not wrong about the Japanese Version (The Boys) . Cause there is one. Just had no MV. The one with the MV tho is its English Version. It's basically the same though.
When I first got into kpop in 2012, the girl groups were defined by the rivalry between Girls' Generation and 2NE1. You asked about Jessica Jung - that is complicated and divisive, but she says she was forced out. She has written a couple of novels, Shine and Bright, that offer a fictionalized account of what happened as well as presenting what it was like to be part of kpop industry.
Please reaction to they other songs too - into the new world (debut) - kissing you - Gee - Oh! - dancing queen - party - lion heart - all night - holliday
Girls generation is the most popular kpop group in korea and japan also they are the nations girl group in their country thats why all kpop girl group in korea picks Girls Generation as their aspiration and idolized them
Run Devil Run is a Korean remake of a demo song by US singer Ke$ha. The Boys is written and produced by legendary US producer Teddy Riley. You Think is another Korean remake of a western demo song by Saara. A lot of Girls' Generation's songs are Korean remakes of western artists songs.
It's the first time that I have watch a reaction from you guys, I really liked your opinions SM being a company with so much history and with so many K-pop icons, is really worth reacting to their music I don't know if you have already react to SM artist but I highly recommend reacting to more Girls Generation, Red Velvet, Shinee, Exo and much more... SM has so many fabulous and iconic songs
jessica was "kicked out" from the group in 2014 as she was focusing more on her fashion business.. she was quiet loud to show that she was the victim and also potrayed other girls as mean gilrs in her novel that she written but the other 8 never mentioned her anymore since 2014.. as a long time fan, i support the 8 others more than i support jessica but still i dont hate her
Girl it’s been 9 years… NDAs have expired & half of the girls aren’t even under SM anymore… if jessica was lying about anything then she would have been sued into hell by now. We know from jessica’s books that all 8 members said that they weren’t going to perform at the shenzhen fanmeeting if she was going to be there 💀 they ALL wanted her OUTTT
The 8 members have focused on standing up for the group and highlighting GG's image while Jessica continues to talk bad things about them in a "fictional" way, it's so sad

Jessica's stans are losers just like her. Can't help but make lies to get attention, go buy her clothes honey cuz her stores are being shutdown as I'm writing this comment.
