ILC didn't make jokes about just anybody or anything. Smh. They were very deliberate and relevant to the moment, and the great writing was Insightful and critical, as well as funny. It was not comedy at people's expense but a 1990 attempt to be truly inclusive, to really see folkx and get us all thinking. They were/There writing was so much smarter and more impressive than that.
@abrablue It was comedy..... you can be offended by anything..... and yes it was great writing but they "pushed it" alot and it wasn't anymore relevant then than now.... people just wouldn't expect it now like then. We weren't shocked by what was being said or done like kids are today.
This show was the best. Wayans Bros were WAY ahead of their time. A couple other people who got their start on this show are Carrie Ann Inaba and Jennifer Lopez as part of 'the Fly Girls' dance ensemble.
I really loved this show and appreciated the different perspective than mainstream. Truly ahead of their time and you just knew watching it they were going to be ome famous... or start making movies. This is where they honed their chops.
Shawn Wayans, Tommy Davidson, and David Allen Greer played bachelors #1, #2, and #3 respectively. I was 14 years old when IN LIVING COLOR premiered in 1990. It literally became an overnight hit and launched the careers of so many talented performers, most of whom are still working today. If I recall, it aired on Sunday nights and I can remember getting on the school bus on Monday morning to talk about the prior night's episode with my friends. They attempted a revival in 2012 but Fox cancelled it before the pilot episode was even finished filming and it never aired.
@@kathleenlindquist4799Yep. Jim, Shawn, David, and Tommy never saw Jamie as Wanda prior to recording. The director wanted their reaction to Wanda to be genuine. When you hear Jim yell “HOLY CRAP!!” when Wanda walked in, that wasn’t scripted. 😂
Jim carry improved the lipstick and Europe jokes on the spot. Also david allen grear reaction was real as he didnt see wanda in costume before the time of filming.
More and more people need to be reacting to the show! It is the best sketch, comedy show of all time, spanning careers of all the greats! And it laid the ground for shows like Chapelle show, and it was always funnier than Saturday night live!
One the best shows ever. They best snl in the ratings numerous times. Fun fact, this was the first time the 3 bachelor's had seen in Jamie Foxx in this get up--so the reactions were real! 😂
@@tyseemahbishop6123 Oh, snap! You're talking about the gossip lady! You're right. I'm thinking about the Debra Wilson sassy character from MadTV. Thanks for the headsup!
The one who won (Bachelor #2) was Tommy Davidson, who's a cool guy. I found out when he was born, he was put in a dumpster by his mother. He was rescued by a white couple and adopted by them!
I read his book and it was so sad that his mother did that to him. He went through a lot of crap in his life before he finally got his life together. I always liked Tommy Davidson, he is a cool guy for sure.
Tommy Davidson was the “winner” and all the Wayans brothers were on there. Damon, Shawn, Marlon and Keenen. Chris Rock, Jim Carrey and David Allen Grier was the third guy. It was one of the funniest shows on tv in the early 90’s.
That show was ahead of its time, that and Mad TV were way better than SNL. Speaking of Mad TV have y’all seen their skits on The Wizard Of Oz movie, they have two called “Alternate endings” that are funny AF
So many hysterical skits - any of the Wanda skits, but so many more. I think my favorite one with Wanda is the Dracula one, but this one is up there too.
Also the chorographer when "In Living Color" premiered in 1990 was Rosie Perez. In either season 2 or 3, they had a brand new fly girl and it was none other than Jennifer Lopez herself. Jim Carrey auditioned for SNL multiple times and was rejected each time (1980, 1985 and 1986) and Damon Wayans was on SNL for the 1985-86 season but was fired after only 11 shows aired for doing improvising during a skit. Shawn started out as the DJ on the show (he went by SW1) before being promoted to a main cast member. And one of the greatest gems was the discovery of Jamie Foxx, who wound up doing a lot of Wanda skits with my all-time favorite the one where we find out she was originally part of the group "En Vogue" (and all the members of En Vogue appeared in the skit with Wanda where they ended it by doing the breakdown of "(My Lovin') You're Never Gonna Get It" and it is FUNNY!)
This show was just an utter breath of fresh air. So much success from this one show. At the time SNL fell 2nd to this show in ratings numerous times for variety comedy. Grammy winners, Academy Award winners, Emmy and even a Tony Award winner from off this one show. A show of shows if you will. We will never have a variety show like this ever again. America, WHAT HAPPENED?????
In Living Color not only launched the careers of Jaime Fox and Jim Carrey but the Wayans family, David Allen Grier, Jennifer Lopez and countless others.
Wow - - Y'all got a chance to see one of the greatest TV Skits of All Time. There are many more (Great) "Wanda" skits - - but this one is a True Classic. p.s., Check out when Wanda meets Dracula !!! (Vampire movies & shows were Big in the 90s).
Jennifer Lopes- JLo- was a fly girl. Fly girls was the women dance crew, they dance for the audience during commercial breaks and opening sequence. Once in awhile they might play some back ground people in skits.
David Allen Grier (Jumanji) was #3. Tommy Davidson is #2; he is the guy that Wanda the Ugly Woman is always trying to catch. He does great physical comedy.
This is such a spread myth. David Alan Greer was one of the best on the show for keeping his composure. This was the 3rd Wanda skit and he was in the first one. It was in the script for him to laugh at Wanda.
Shawn Wayans is one of the Wayans brothers. In Living Color was created by Keenan Ivory Wayans who also wrote and starred in the sketch comedy television series. The Wayans include Marlon, Damon, Shawn, Keenan & their sister Kim. Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carey, Jamie Foxx and David Alan Grier were some of the notables people that this show help get they start in show business.
I enjoyed all of your reactions even if I feel like a dinosaur while laughing. In Living Color was a favorite comedy for my sons as teens and we’d all watch. It was a little bit of rewind watching all of your faces, thanks for that 😊
My favorite ones of Wanda is the one when she met Luther (Marlon) and the one about her and her sister. You guys should maybe check out those two and check out some fire marshal Bill (Jim Carrey)
I saw Daman Wayans & Tommy Davidson stand up. It was so freaking hilarious! This was a show you couldn't wait each week to watch. I say it all the time, but I miss the 20th century! lol
😆. Have you seen Jim as VANILLA ICE👍❤️ here in Living Color…. and Yes J Lo is one of the FLY GIRLS, her stardom was also here…. Must watch IN LIVING COLOR
