In 2016 the album Master Of Puppets was the first metal album entered into the Library of Congress’s National Recording Registry. The Library of Congress included the album in the 2015 registry, which means it was determined by the federal government to be preserved for all time because of its historical significance.

I first heard this song around 1989/90 and it still gives me goosebumps 😃🤘

Let me introduce you to Metallica. What you witnessed in that video is arguably their finest concert during their prime era in 1989. Even a nana song in those concerts would sound cool af and undeniably metal when they were in their late 20s. Metallica's first four albums epitomize thrash metal and are widely regarded as their BEST by public opinion. Surprisingly, their fifth album is their most recognized, not for being metal, but for its shift towards hard rock, garnering mainstream success at the time. Over the years, their albums ventured into rock and experimentation, yet their latest three albums tried to recapture their original sound, albeit with the acknowledgment of their age. Despite this, these albums are still remarkably good. James Hetfield's voice has undergone significant changes throughout their discography. Metallica stands as the biggest metal band in history. I have been to 100's of concerts in the 80's and the Metallica - And Justice For All 88-89 tour was by far my favorite one. So much fun and energy at that show.

I definitely enjoy hearing what you have to say, and I enjoy hearing the music, but both at the same time slightly lessons my experience.

The driving force behind this song is its incredible energy.

To live is to die is the song they play at the start. When the drums kick in thats when Master of Puppets start. To live is to die is a different masterpiece.

Since you're having trouble with Metallica check out the Warning performing Enter Sandman live at Teatro Metropolitan. They were invited to rework (more than a cover) the song for the Metallica Blacklist 30th anniversary album. They collaborated with Alessia Cara and did an amazing job and they are awesome live.

So I don’t think I’ve seen a post explaining the song, but the song is about drug addiction. “Taste me, you will see / More is all you need”, “Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams / blinded by me, you can’t feel a thing”. Even the solo/breakdown is meant to symbolize audibly the beginning of an addiction, morphing into the nightmare people experience while addicted. They hint to (what I believe) were the drugs of choice in that time. They mention “needlework” which is a reference to heroin, and “Chop your breakfast on a mirror” which is a reference to cocaine. It culminates into what most addictions do. “I will occupy / I will help you die” or “Never ending maze, drift on numbered days / Now your life is out of season”.

Hey there Steph. Enjoyed your reaction here. I might offer a bit of a Metallica right turn if you are interested. There is a trio of sisters from Mexico called The Warning who have a great relationship with Metallica's Enter Sandman. For Metallica's 30th anniversary Blacklist they got together with Alessia Cara and reworked Enter Sandman with a completely new arrangement. The live version from August 2022 at Teatro Metropolitan in Mexico City (also known as CDMX) would be a great introduction to The Warning. I think you might really enjoy it. Many of us The Warning fans are also Freeze The Fall supporters. I found your channel through the reaction you did to Masquerade today. Thanks for covering FTF as well!

isn't a second song, is just one song. Except the first intro is from another song dedicated to Cliff Burton...

I also recommend the Stockholm 1986 (the final performance with Cliff Burton, Metallica's original bass player) and Manchester 2019 performances of this song. Also check out AC/DC "Thunderstruck" live @River Plate 2009.

They still rock, and the quality of the videos and performances are top notch. :) You can pick the live videos from Metallica´s own RU-vid channel. They will not block your videos, but there might be a copyright claim.

Hello. I'm 41 and have been a Metallica fan my whole life. I've seen them in concert 5 times over the years. 3 in Ohio and 2 in Kentucky. I love how into it you got. It's a beautiful thing to see people expand their horizons and listen to new things. You definitely got a new subscriber. I would try to do 1 song from each album starting from the first. You should do seek and destroy from the Kill em All album first.

One of the greatest anti-drug songs that ever was. Just as powerful now as then. My only knock on Metalica is their selling out to greed in the 90s. The irony that they make less now from Apple, Spotify, etc than they were offered then by Napster is not lost on me.

The intro is not a part of the song Master of Puppets.......its just a melody that they play live. The song is about drug addiction and the slow melodic part in the middle represents the good feelings of taking drugs but it only lasts a short while before it all goes bad again and you are a slave to the drug. Recommend giving Whiplash a listen

Metallica may have treated Jason like shit off stage, but onstage they let him go loose, with bass solos and singing!! James likes to have the microphone lowered like that so he can glance down at the strings of the guitar while he is singing if he needs to. You can see him doing that occasionally.
