I was only 8 and loved it then and love it now. Dont know anyone who doesn’t love at least one of the Beatles songs. So good to see even todays children of rock loving the same music we di and what started the music revolution.

Listen to the studio version of it if you can and then also definitely check out the studio version from around the same time of their Little Richard cover which was a huge hit, Long Tall Sally. You can hear Paul McCartney just wail, and it is so danceable. It used to be the way they closed their shows in that nightclub in Hamburg Germany where they had what was essentially a residency before they returned to Liverpool and broke huge. It's what made them so tight. The club owner, who is also essentially their landlord since he rented them a flat upstairs, tried to write it into their contract that they could not play this song because the audience would go nuts and tear the bar up. But they always ended up playing it anyway and Mayhem ensued, and the guy couldn't really do anything because they were bringing in such consistently intense crowds and he was making money. I guess it one point he even tried to nail all the legs of the barstools into the wooden floor so that people wouldn't pick them up and throw them about the room when the Beatles played Long Tall Sally. I think that's hilarious

"Twist & Shout" was written in 1961 by Phil Medley & Bert Berns. It was originally recorded by the Top Notes but it didn't become a hit until it was recorded by the Isley Brothers in 1962. The Beatles version in 1963 is the most famous.

Early Beatles is great stuff too. Bubble gum, teeny bopper, top 40 music. Making teen girls faint! It was great.

I'm so glad that you reacted to a Beatles song from this concert. The Beatles played several times on Ed Sullivan in Feb. 1964. Any song you chose from these performances would have been great. Twist and Shout is one of my personal favorites, and I was one of the tens of millions of people whose eyes were glued to the TV set. Women screaming and passing out at Beatle concerts was common. These appearances were historic and had profound effects on music and culture. As simple as early Beatle songs were constructed, they were new, different, and literally revolutionary at the time. Their later songs were more complicated, had more twists and turns, and were also ground breaking. In terms of the trend of long hair on men, this was considered long at the time, and had a lot of people talking. As I mentioned in a previous comment, this is what set that trend in motion. Great reaction!

I would love to hear someone do "Hey Jude" studio version. No one seems to be able to. Oh well, "Let It Be" would be the obvious next choice.

John Lennon in complete command of the song, the band, the people in Studio 50 Theater. As well as most of the 73 million Americans who tuned in on that life changing (for me) Sunday Night. Though filmed the same day as the Beatles culture changing first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show (Feb 9 1964) Twist And Shout aired 2 weeks later on Feb 23 1964. I watched that Feb 9 appearance in compete wonderment and confusion. You couldn't take your eyes off the TV screen. I was a few months shy of my 5th Birthday. My Father and 13 year old brother weren't impressed. My 2 sisters (14 &9) went absolutely bonkers. Screaming, crying and jumping up and down. As for my Mom, she was to worn out to care. I knew that night I wanted to learn to play an instrument and join a band. 11 years and 10 months later, I played my first professional gig (Dec 20,1974) I think we may have finally identified the 5th Beatle. It's our beautiful Blessing!!! Take care MrsPP. Your pal, RNB

"Twist and Shout" was originally recorded by the Isley Brothers. One of the secrets of the Beatles'' success was that they covered a lot of black artists (Isleys, Little Richard, etc.)

The Beatles were still a band the year I was born, yet to release their last three albums together. One of my earliest musical memories is hearing "Let it Be" playing over the radio in the Dairy Queen my parents took us to for ice cream after church one Sunday morning circa 1970. The Beatles broke up that year and dropped a bunch of solo albums that were all hits too. Their impact has been and still is, immense. A few of their "romantic" songs to check out are "And I Love Her", "If I Fell", and "Do You Want To Know A Secret".

it was February 1964, I was 9 years old, and we were watching the Ed Sullivan Show like everyone did on Sunday nights... the Beatles changed our world overnight! The next day the school yard was all abuzz with excitement... and people from my generation have been buzzing about the Beatles ever since

Oh, sweet Blessing ... What a treat to get to see your reaction to this early Beatles classic. ❤ I absolutely loved the way it clearly lifted you sky high! 😄 It's great that you got to see the unbridled enthusiasm of the young audience for these instant British demi-gods. 🤩 You asked for some particulars on personal memories of the song, which came out in 1964. What's hard to convey is that beginning with the release of "I Want to Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You" in late 1963, every song that followed was an equally amazing smash hit. And "Twist and Shout" dropped into that long line of great songs that followed one another at the pace of about one every 8 to 10 weeks. So it's hard to single out one song for how you felt about your life at the time, because it was immediately competing with another instant classic. Let it just be said that their music was an unexpected and priceless gift to the ears of young people around the globe. 🥳

I was probably on my tricycle wearing my Mexican hat on Magnolia Avenue Margate. This is one of their really early hits. They were getting better all the time, better better better. I used to get mad at my school the teachers who taught me weren't cool. Check it out.

I don't get the take of this being that "Romantic" of a song. Extremely surface level in comparison to most love songs. I don't know the Beatles, but with them having 72 Top 100 songs, it's hard for me to believe that they don't have at least 1 more way more romantic song than this one in thier inventory.
