I.know I'm old (78)when reactors such as your good self are just discovering the BEATLES . They burst onto the music scene in the very early 60's and changed music forever . The wrote over 300 songs a high number of which were in the top 10 charts in many countries around the world .here in Australia they had 7in our top 10 at the same time and wrote the other 3 for other sIngers They wrote songs not just for themselves but for many top tier artists and have been covered by just about everyone . They went through many phases in their music career and were constantly leading the industry in innovative new directions . Paul and Ringo are the only members alive and are still performing . My favourite BEATLES songs are MICHELLE , YESTERDAY , FOOL ON THE HILL , ELEANOR RIGBY . WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS , and A GIRL ,just to mention more than a few . Do yourself a tremendous favour and start listening to their vast playlist whether you react to them or not you owe it to yourself to enjoy their magical talent. .

This was Early Beatles! With every album, they pushed themselves harder to discover new ways to write. They only recorded together as a group for 7 yrs. or so, but had more influence on the rock music world than any other band in history. (John was always quick witted and cheeky. Brian Epstein begged him not to address the Queens presence. John couldn't help himself!)

This was originally a hit for the Isley Brothers, 1961, based from Cincinnati, Ohio. When 45 singles and LP got to England, British bands often didn't know who the musicians were, they learned and tried to out play their rivals in competition. There were some "rock movies" like "The Girl can't help it" where they could see Little Richard, and Eddie Cochran play in the movie. Others. they just learned from the records. Smokey Robinson was amazed that these British guys knew his music. Carol King, as song writer Goffin/King - the Beatles were amazed that songs they loved were co-written by a Woman. The Isley Brothers, continued for years in R&B, Funk, Disco... When I saw Paul live, in Cincinnati (second concert) in 2011, he pointed out Bootsy Collins, in the front row -Bootsy, if you don't know, a Bass player, from Cincinnati, who grooved with James Brown, and Parliament Funkadelic. Paul as a Bassist, gave Bootsy a shout, as a "local friend" (I live nearby, in south Ohio. Both of my Parents were in Medical School in 1964='5 when The Beatles came to Cincinnati to play, and were both delayed by traffic due to the concert, for them to get to the Hospital) My Dad went with me to the 2011 concert, at the stadium where The Reds play -awesome to see Paul with my Dad. I explained to him who Bootsy was. My Dad is amazed how much I know about music, and how it's linked. Music influences musicians, it's a web of talent.

This was the Royal Variety Performance in 1963 in London at the Palladium, very prestigious. At the time, probably the biggest show for entertainers of every kind, performed in a one off special for the Royal Family or, a member or two of the family usually the Queen but sometimes other members of the family. You are hearing the Beatles totally live here! an amazing thing actually, to actually hear them live! It was well known at their concerts, in this period, their shows audiences of mostly young girls would scream sooooo loud and incessantly, The Beatles couldn't barely hear themselves over the fans noise which would be sooo loud. People associated the level of noise to a jet liner taking off just over your head but not disappearing away from you, staying constant! The Beatles were a very tight band musically live in this period and extremely well in tune for live playing, in the days where you had no studio trickery that could be used in a live show, not in those days. Especially that there was no such thing as "fold back" speakers or auto tune techniques or anything, literally just them, their instruments and their voices and their microphones and their guitar amps and Ringo Starr's drum kit, that's it. Twist & Shout at this time had not been long released as a track on their first album, Please Please Me in early 1963 and their version of Twist and shout was extremely popular and especially so live. It was a track released on probably their most popular 7 inch vinyl E.P. (4 tracks on the disc), a very popular way to release their music, as for other artists, as indeed 7 inch singles and of course 12 inch albums. The Twist and Shout E.P. went to number 1 in the separate EP charts of the day and stayed their at number one for weeks on end in fact, until their next EP came out which was the only way it got knocked off the number 1 position. It sold so many EP's it registered enough sales to enter the Singles charts of the day and reached number 2 on those charts as well!! Enjoy the Beatles, you will never see anything like them ever again. They were amazing and extremely charismatic and very, very talented songwriters and musicians. I hope you enjoy them as much as a lot of the people in the world did, do!!

This was in 1963. When the Beatles performed TWIST AND SHOUT, it was usually their last number, since his was stretching John's register and would make him hoarse afterward. The Beatles started very poppy, getting their big audience (teens) with lots of love, yeah yeahs yeahs, and holding hands. After their first 4 albums in 18months, their 5th album (Rubber Soul 1965) was a turning point for them, after meeting with Bob Dylan and marijuana for the first time. They continued to advance in song tech for 5 more years until management and business matters split them as a group, but not as "brothers": All 4 claiming they still loved each other all through the 70s (George was not that fond of Yoko, but John was a good friend) This recording here, is just before they hit America, and had the top 5 songs, (1-5) and 14 songs on the top 100, at once. No other band has come close to that, especially since it took them 1 day to record the album. THE WHOLE ALBUM. ONE DAY.

The Beatles played my local dance hall twice in 1963. The first time was soon after the release of their first single (Love Me Do.) I was still at school but my schoolmate had a weekend job there and I remember him saying that there had been a good band on called The Beatles. I had vaguely heard of them but thought they were a sort of folk group! By the time of their second appearance they had had two no.1 singles, a number 1 album and Beatlemania had taken over the whole country but they kept their promise to play. By now I had left school so of course I had to go. There were no advance tickets, it was pay on the door and hundreds were turned away but since I only lived five minutes away I got there early and got in OK. I had never seen anything like it. They were fantastic and the crowd went wild. Twelve months on I had joined my first band and was treading the boards at that same dance hall! Magical times.

Twist and Shout is a cover and the only Beatles cover that made the top 10 on national charts. Imagine is not a Beatles song, it is from John Lennon's solo period after the Beatles broke up. In the 10 years or so the Beatles were together, they went through tremendous changes. They started as a rock and roll cover band but by the time they hit big, and big is a huge understatement, they were doing mostly Lennon/McCartney songs. By early agreement, all Beatles songs written by Lennon or McCartney, together osr separately were labled as by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. They stopped touring early because of exhaustion, the frustration of not being able to hear themselves play over the screaming of the fans, and feeling that they were stagnating as a band. Therefore no live performances for many years until their last on a rooftop in London. During those first years, they were so popular that they always had multiple songs in the top 5, and ifvyou were listening to the radio, you could go from one station to the other and hear nothing but the Beatles. Beatlemania was not an exaggeration. Once they stopped touring, they got more experimental and kept pushing boundaries. You will find amazing ballads, the beginnings of metal, psychedelic experiments, new instruments being introduced to rock and roll, avant guard pieces, and more. Enjoy.

@@Texas_Love They toured from 1963 through 1966. The Beatles history is very very interesting and amazing, there is TOO much information to tell you all of it here. There are SO MANY documentaries here on You Tube and online, DVDs, books, magazines and information on line that you could look at and listen too . I was 16/17 years old in 1964 when the Beatles first became known in the U.S. The U.K. and Europe already had "Beatlemania" in 1963. There is a really good documentary here on You Tube that covers their first American Tour in 1964 called "BEATLES SCREAM AND SHOUT/ FULL DOCUMENTARY/ ANDY TIMMONS / MARK NABOSHER / JOHN BRYANT." Get on You Tube and in the search just type in "Scream and Shout / Full Documentary" and scroll down you will find it, with those 3 men's names above. The sub title to it is "31 days that changed America." IF you watch this documentary, PUT ON THE CLOSED CAPTIONING because some of the questions asked by interviewers in parts, are hard to hear, and just in case you have trouble understanding their accents. They were all born and raised in Liverpool England. I saw the Beatles live in concert in Cleveland, Ohio on Sept. 15, 1964 and on Aug. 14, 1966 when I was 19. They didn't come to Cleveland in 1965 because our mayor BANNED them after the 1964 concert! Hope you dive into the BEATLES "RABBIT HOLE" It is a fascinating and wonderful journey you will not regret. Their music is so varied. IF you start at the beginning, with their first single "Love Me Do," from 1962 and their FIRST album "PLEASE PLEASE ME," you will learn how their music evolved and progressed in just 8 years time as recording artists, until they broke up in 1970. Before they secured a recording contract in 1962, they had been together in a band starting in 1957, when Paul met John at a Church Fete (festival) where John's skiffle group was playing,, John was impressed with Paul's playing and asked him to join his band. Paul brought in George who joined in 1958. Ringo didn't join the band until 1962. The members are: JOHN LENNON, singing lead here on rhythm guitar ( Oct. 9, 1940 - Dec. 8, 1980 when he was murdered), PAUL McCARTNEY, left handed bassist (June 18, 1942 ), GEORGE HARRISON, lead guitarist in the middle(Feb. 25, 1943 died Nov. 29, 2001 from cancer) and RINGO STARR on drums (real name Richard Starkey July 7, 1940) Paul McCartney is now 80 years old and Ringo Starr is 82. They are both (separately) still plan tours and recently released recordings.

Oh they absolutely did. You almost dont recognize the Beatles in how they evolved both musically and how they looked, ( especially since we're talking a really short period of time respectively). They changed the music lanscape for everyone forever! That's why they're so often referred to by musical artists as being so influential, including the Bee Gees. They're another one to enjoy going on a journey with. To speak to your comment about preferring everything live. Not necessarily. I often actually prefer the video that goes with the song from a reaction standpoi t because you get a clean version of it only because there are thing the musician, group, artist wanted you to hear thst you may not get LIVE. Also since most people do t experience a song the very first time live, its nice to live vicariously to a reactors to have them hear it as we did initially. Then, a reaction to a comparison once the studio version has been reacted to is cool, to hear/see the difference. Just my thoughts on that.

Most live performances by The Beatles are NOT good barometers for the GOAT among GOATs of influential bands. But their full body of work, encompassing the years 1962-1970, & what came from their 4 individual solo careers after that, is something to behold. So much more, so much better than you can imagine. I promise. Best bet is start with early Beatles, which this video is, but there's so much more, then work your way up chronologically if you want to fully appreciate the pure genius of their music, and how quickly they developed into a phenomenon that literally changed the world. You'll also discover that every song has its own sound, its own flavor. And they're ALL GREAT!!!!! John Lennon had lead vocals here, Paul McCartney is on bass, George Harrison, lead guitar, & Ringo Starr is the drummer. Most songs by the group hold the writing credits of Lennon/McCartney, although as the group progressed, it became more obvious who was writing what. George wrote some great ones himself and sang lead on those & others. Even Ringo sang occasional lead. Only 8 years as The Beatles, but a huge & most entertaining catalogue of songs that line a rabbit hole you definitely should explore!! I'll Get You is my favorite early song. Yesterday, which Paul wrote & first performed in 1965, has become THE most recorded song in music history!! In My Life & Here, There & Everywhere are two of the best of mid-Beatles, and 2 of George's songs, Something & While My Guitar Gently Weeps are among the best of the late-stage Beatles. Jump in & listen!! You'll be so glad you did!!

Paul McCartney is Dave Grehls hero, he grew up with the Beatles. Grohl did a documentary about Sun Studios where many classic LPs were recorded. Paul McCartney came and Dave asked him if he wanted to write a song, so everyone stood in a circle playing their instruments, Paul was playing his guitar and started trying out lyrics. 2-3 hours later they had a finished, recorded song which they played live. Grohl was over the moon and says to Paul " that was so easy, I wish it was always that easy, Paul just looks at Grohl and says " it is" the song won McCartney, Grohl and everybody else involved a Grammy. My favourite Beatles songs are Yesterday and Nowhere Man. Always been a Bee Gees fan myself but the Bee Gees themselves always mentioned the Beatles as one of their great mysical influences. Indeed they were often mistajen for the Beatles in the early days, and their msnager didn't dispel any of the rumours. Apparently great for sales. Like a lot of their early songs, "Twist And Shout" is a remake. It's a remake of an Eisley Brothers song (they also had a great one that Rod Stewart covered called "Pretty Flamingo") that they were fond of. The "ooos" are even in the Eisely Brothers version. This was their Royal Command Performance and the woman you see with the tiara is actually the Queen Mother (or the "Queen Mum" as she was affectionately known). The dichotomy of them wearing suits and playing what was then considered rowdy pop music was part of the charm for me. I love the Mop Top stage of their career, though I know a lot of people mock them for it. They were very young men and being somewhat mischievious onstage was part of what attracted their manager, Brian Epstein. This is a party song, for sure! It makes you dance and move your ass. No deep philosophical reasoning going on here.

You had a similar introduction to the Beatles as I had… not giving it a serious listening-to until after childhood. My mom grew up with them and I had mostly stayed away--(thinking they were a boy-band.) Then I kept noticing some of their songs on oldies stations, and eventually they won me over. They have a volume of music unmatched in size and scope. I won’t say they’re ‘the best rock band,’ but they cannot seriously be discounted either.

Got to see them 3 years in a row. I knew the owner of Maple Leaf Gardens (Toronto) and he gave us free tickets. Top priced seats $5.50. Imagine that price now!!! I couldn't hear for 3 days due to the screaming crowd. That lady was the Queen's mother. As a result they were pretty tame here. Of course John always said whatever he felt like saying anyway. The Beatles didn't just change music, they broke down societal barriers, didn't give a damn about class or race (refused to play before segregated crowds in the US), changed hairstyles, fashion and attitudes in general. They were a breath of fresh air and a lift after the assassination of Kennedy and the trauma of Vietnam and rebelled against the establishment. They were the idols and templates of many groups to follow including the Bee Gees who also wrote their own songs like The Beatles did. The Bee Gees said, hey, they're doing what we are trying to do. The Bee Gees early music and harmony was often mistaken for The Beatles and the Beatles became their friends. The Beatles created the British Invasion of music in the '60's and were the reason the Bee Gees returned to England to get in on it and eventual success. The Beatles evolved immensely in the short period that they existed as a group and later as soloists. Four unique guys with different personalities. Someone for everyone to like. Also remember they had technology that even garage bands have now, no monitors, 4 track recording, they couldn't even hear each other in concerts with thousands of screaming girls. As a result there aren't many good live performances and most are black and white. They evolved to outgrow the technology and could no longer perform live the songs they wrote.

Their music went through every genre and type I can't tell you! You have to listen through their catalogue, the changes are remarkable and totally amazing in a 7-8 year recording career (1962-1970) 12/13 albums, 22 singles (18 number 1's) 13 EP's as released in the UK, even more albums and singles released in the U.S. market at the time in the same time period.

There's a video on RU-vid by a band called the Dirty Mac. It is the Beatles song Yer Blues. It wasn't really a band per se....It was John Lennon of the Beatles singing and on guitar, Eric Clapton on guitar. Keith Richards from the Stones on bass, and Mitch Mitchell from the Jimi Hendrix Experience on drums....check it out...cool song. Of course the song is also on a Beatles album...I think maybe the White Album.

Omg! Now I really feel old. It seems you know nothing really about The Beatles. Amazing. Thank you so much for your reaction. I probably never would have watched this video otherwise because it's more fun to see somebody who's, I guess, never seen them, react to them. As my grandmother said in the sixties--or was it in the seventies?--"They were really something, weren't they?" Coming from her, that was saying a lot! 💖 They road on the crest of the '60s and were at the forefront in influence of popular culture at the time.... Thanks again! P.S. If you would like to get a real chance to understand their early influence which, of course, led to an even greater influence during the (almost) entire decade of the '60s, please watch the groundbreaking movie (consideted so at the time) called "A Hard Day's Night." It was considered a very clever movie about The Beatles and the phenomena called Beatlemania. They play themselves and sing many of their hits....

1962, actually. Love Me Do was their first single, released in the UK in late '62. Before that, they'd recorded as the backing band for Tony Sheridan on My Bonnie, the song that according to legend, was what alerted Brian Epstein to this talented local group of rock'n'rollers, when a teenager came into his record store in Liverpool, asking for it. 🙂

Regarding live performance, they had to stop touring early on because of the screaming fans that went with Beatlemania - its a shame but they did excel in the studio. However they did the first internationally broadcast live performance with "All you need is love" there is a iconic live performance of of "Hey Jude" - that song is an anthem in the uk and they did an impromptu roof top performance in London - try listening to Don't let me down. If you want to see the hard rock edge to the beatles try Helter Skelter and Revolution. If you want to be moved (possibly to tears) try while my guitar gently weeps and let it be. The Beatles spear headed what was known as the British invasion in the 1960's which consisted of dozens of excellent bands - there is a lot to explore. you could try the Animals -House of the rising sun , Cream - White room , The who -My Generation, Rolling Stones - Paint is black , the Zombies she's not there to name a few.

Though they were one of the first to do music videos in order to stay in touch with their fans once they stopped touring in 1966, your focus on watching them live will seriously limit the number of songs you hear. I've heard several reactors say the same as you, that they want to watch music videos, and they're stymied why they can't find many! But I hope you enjoy the ones you do find. I started my Beatles journey in 1971 and was gutted to hear I'd missed the end of their career by one year!

That’s The Queen’s mother. Funnily enough AKA ‘The Queen Mother’. Yes, The Beatles went through phases, rock, ballads, their psychedelic phase to mention a few. I think John Lennon had the best rock voice in The Beatles… angsty and a little bit of grit. ❤️ You and your brother might like to take a look at Australia’s answer to The Beatles, The Easybeats. Their influence on the development of Australian rock has been significant. Since you’re both guitarists, I think you and he might enjoy their hidden technical guitar mastery. If the short guitarist looks like Angus and Malcolm Young from ACϟDC, that’s because he’s their older brother, George. He’s considered by many to be the sixth and most important, although invisible member of Acca Dacca. 🙂 Both videos are live because I know that’s how you want to roll now. It's only recently that all this footage exist that people can see the stuff. But on the other hand I know they are notoriously difficult with copyright strikes and stuff like that so if live helps well then yeah. But I have seen a number of reactions to their regular catalog that don't get blocked so who knows. But I'm a musician I strongly feel I'd rather hear somebody hear my studio cut first in the life just adds to it. See icing on the cake.

@2:09 -- Imagine. That was not a Beatles' song. That was a John Lennon solo song, after the break-up of The Beatles. And as popular as Imagine was, that was John expressing his disdain for religion and his love of socialism. But fans either did not care, or did not understand. They loved the artist, and they loved the melody. John was a talented song writer, and talented musician, with talent on loan from the heavens. I love his music. But he had a stripe of socialism in him, and it came out in "Imagine". And he was not wrong about religion causing problems. But that is like saying that [fill in racial group] causes problems. There are problems with some religions, while other religions teach good values. But in "Imagine", John dreamed of having no religion. Without religion, there would be no United States Of America. Our founding fathers were all religious.

Just in case no one has told you yet, when you're talking about older music like in the 60's, a live performance is absolutely NOT the way to go 99% of the time. There are notable exceptions, like Janis Joplin's debut in 1967 doing Ball And Chain at the Monterrey Pop festival to name a prime example, but ordinarily you're going to get horrible sound, missing vocals, out of tune guitars, drunken drummers, etc. For 60's music in particular, including The Beatles, the recorded versions of songs will practically always be vastly superior to anything live. That goes for a great many 70's songs too, the recording was usually much better than something live. It wasn't until the early 70's that you even started to see quality live performances from rock bands on TV. Programs like The Midnight Special and Don Kirshner's Rock Concert made that possible. Even so, a lot of the time the recording is just generally much better. Before those shows, bands would usually mime to their recording when they went on TV. It's almost a rule of thumb that the version of a song an artist spent hours and hours to get just right is going to be different than something they've only got three minutes to pull off. Save the live stuff for songs you're already familiar with. When you get to the 80's, now there's proper videos and everything changed after that. But going for live stuff on the older songs is very hit and miss, is sometimes not a good representation and can ultimately be a disappointment. Just one musician's opinion. Cheers!
