@dunsonhouse Here is Another Song From the same time period. I think you'll like this one. It is Based on the message of MLK's "I Have A Dream" Speech, and was written for him with this in mind. It also honored the Memory of Robert F Kennedy, who was also Assasinated during the same time period. This was a Turbulent Time in America, 🇺🇸 with the Civil Rights Movement, Protests and Riots against Vietnam War and it seemed as if the Country was being torn apart and Elvis wanted to bring a Message of Hope and Unity to the Nation. The guys were in a 5 member group called the Paramours. A few black Marines from the El Toro Marine base in Orange county California heard there were white guys singing R&B in the club Jon's Black Derby in Santa Ana. They went to check them out and loved them. On weekends, during the entire time the guys were at the club, the Marines would drop by. One especially would shout out that's righteous, brothers after numbers he liked. When encountering them coming and going, he would say things like how ya doing righteous brothers. When Bobby and Bill recorded Little Latin Lupe Lu without the rest of the group, they needed a name. Bobby suggested they use the name the Marines were calling them. And so, the Righteous Brothers were born. (A total aside: Orange county has a very small black population. It's possible those Marines were the only black people in audience. I only mention this because you said the audience was predominantly black.)

I'm 60, so I have heard this song throughout my life. It was great to watch you guys react to such an incredible song. That man did each part of that song perfectly, in front of a live audience, and without any of these new devices to alter the voice. Just raw talent! But, raw talent is how all of the groups back then were.

You just KNOW that a "brother" gave them the name "Righteous Brothers"!! They have SO MUCH SOUL in their voices!! So many people think that they were black!! I think that's awesome because now that so many people are reacting to their videos and seeing that they are white with "soul" is really connecting people in a way that they NEVER KNEW THEY WERE CONNECTED!! It just goes to show you, COLOR DOESN'T MATTER - WHAT'S INSIDE US MATTERS!! I am white, and I have come to LOVE listening to these young reactors, and I feel so connected to them and have even come to know new black artists that I never knew bafore!! I am LOVING THIS MUSICAL JOURNEY!!❤❤❤

The two guys were entertaining Marines in the south during the Viet Nam War and the Marines yelled at them they were “righteous.” It stuck and they were amazing. Bobby Hatfield styled himself after Sam Cooke and it’s so noticeable. Bobby had a counter tenor voice and Bill a baritone voice. Together magic. Now it’s time for “Soul and Inspiration.”

Song originally released 10 years before this TV broadcast in a 1955 PRISON MOVIE called "Unchained." This tune was the love melody in "Unchained," hence its title. Been covered scores of times, but Bobby's has been called the BEST by so very many folks. Received new attention during the late 1960s and early '70s due to so many young couples separated and dispersed to Vietnam and other military hotspots around the world.

My Generation. Girls at dances in the sixties thought he was singing to them, and they'd hold us so tight. Later in Nam this became an anthem about bein' away from home. "...And Time goes by so slowly ...and time can do so much ...are you still mine?" You'd hear it comin' from one of the hootches at night... and lose it. The Righteous Brothers history. Bobby and Bill were in The Paramours together in 1962. They both grew up on rhythm and blues with Little Richard being one of their favorites. Black Marines from El Toro Marine Base would come to watch them sing the blues and they were the ones who called them The Righteous Brothers. When Bobby and Bill became a duo and had recorded their first record they needed a name so they used what the Marines had been calling them. They opened for The Beatles on their first American tour. Bobby and Bill sang together off and on for 41 years until Bobby's death in 2003. They were one of the best duos of all time and they both were wonderful soloist too. They are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March of 2003 and Bobby passed away in November 2003.

Their biggest hit where they both sing is "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling." BMI ranked as radio's most requested and played song of the 20th century. I've read that "Unchained Melody" has been covered by about 500 artists. Many people think this particular version from the 1965 Andy Williams show is the best of them all. Bobby's version of that song was the background music for a love scene in the movie "Ghost", released in 1990. In an interview Bill Medley said the reaction to the song in the movie was so good that he convinced the record company rerelease the album. Some time later he received a large box full of platinum records from every COUNTRY where the album sold more than 1 million copies. Those guys are timeless.
@alrightbal9190

Bill received those records for "I've Had the Time of My Life with Jennifer Warnes from Dirty Dancing! In 1990 the record company wasn't going to initially release Unchained Melody, so Bobby went in the recording studio and recorded a new version! Then the record company released the 1965 version and the Righteous Brothers became the only artists so far to have two versions of the same song in the top 20 at the same time!

This was done with pure talent before a live audience. One take, no editing. Bobby Hatfield did this song as a solo. The duo consisted of Bill Medley ( the skinny one ) and Bobby Hatfield. The song was first performed in 1955 in the movie "Unchained". Through the years more than 250 artist have tried to duplicate and match Bobby Hatfield's performance, including Elvis Presley. This was known as Blue Eyed Soul music. I was a junior in high when this song came out in 1965.

There will be some good love songs, Soul music where they just let it rip, and the jazzier, "My Babe". Such a great reaction especially the ending of it with homeboy with eye's close and and Mr Nick covering his mouth lol. That was fun "You've Lost That Lovin Feeling" (live) ...or "Soul and Inspiration" (live)

I'm 63 years old and my older sisters were playing the Rightous Brothers since I was in a playpen. You need to react to their top hit, You've Lost That Loving Feeling" to experience their true soul (I'm from Mississippi, so I know good soul music!)

There was a marine base close to their club. The black Marines would come in and hear them saying often and one of the black Marines yelled out, “that’s righteous, brother!”

I like the way you guys don't make yourselves the focal point.

He didn't say South. He said south. This show was in California. The south they were talking about was San Diego. The club they were performing at was near the Marine base there and yes, that marine was evidently black.
