Recently voted as the greatest dance tune of all time from Sweden 🇸🇪 Produced by the dream team of Denniz Pop & Max Martin. I was 15 when this came out and it wasn’t even close to the fastest tune we danced to. Ze Germanz were crazier when it came to tempo 🇩🇪🆙🌀🌪
Max Martin is my hero! Thanks to the late Denniz Pop who taught him very well. So many hits produced by Max ever since then. So many artists owe him a lot.
Nothing beats "Open Sesame" ... huge european hit in the nineties. A true classic (in my book). The chorus is by Jessica Folcker (if I spelt it correctly) indeed. She sang on many dance tracks as chorus and backup until she decided to do her music too. She has such a lovely warm voice. Not sure if she sang on Dr Alban track stop but she's been on many european dance tracks. You could check her out too :) (but after Open Sesame :D )
Just to spread general knowledge: there's this Lady Gaga interview floating around the Interweb, where she's asked what her female role models in music are. Off she goes: Blondie, Madonna, Britney Spears ...*I was a huge Leila K fan!* Just go listen to "Judas" and you'll know I'm not fibbing it.
Love Leila K.!!! I found her from her song "Got to Get" which was her biggest hit from 1989 & played on the radio & clubs all the time. "Leila K. Ft. Rob N Raz - Got To Get". It came out late 1989 into 1990, but I really think you'll like it more. It's definitely slower, but a groovy, funky vibe to it. Thanks Dereck!🥰
Jessica Folcker is the outstanding singer in the chorus. As a fellow ABBA fan, you MUST check out Bomfunk Mc’s feat. Jessica Folcker - Something’s Going On. You’ve reacted to Frida’s original version I believe.
Although the lyrics wants you to dance, I think the song just wants to give you a lot of electric energy. Maybe to give you the energy to get you dancing later to a different song?
We used to make fun of her, because what are petty Swedes to do? She's an icon, but she also severed a finger of a mine slamming a restroom door on him while casually going "exsquish me!" Hot mess, but we love her. She's doing better now, too.
Ohmkyeaah, I just woke up from something and thought "why not go listen to some Leila K" The other singer is Jessica Folcker and Leila herself was released from a forensic psych ward some time ägo. Don't get me wrong. She was the highest-grossing female artist in Europe back then, but she also was an absolute pest! We all (who weren't top selling artists in Europe) made fun of her! Short story long: she ran away from home, because she was supposed to be married to her uncle, became first runner up in a rapping competition and yeah wow, the now woman got way too famous too quickly. There's this clip online where Lady Gaga talks about women who inspired her: 'Whitney, Mariah, Britney, Blondie...I was a huge Leila K fan!" Woof, if you can't dance to this, try her rendition of "Ça Plane Pour Moi!" Needs must when the devil rides you!
So if you like this, today we listen to Rein God is s woman very hardcore EBM. Reins halfbrother, same mother, is Swedish House Maffia Sebastian Ingrosso.
The other singer is Jessica Folcker. She's awesome, but never garnered the same success as Leila. Wrong place, wrong time. I know so many artists working their asses off for years without anything happening. Even with a contract! I have this friend, this most gorgeous woman, who hustled for years and finally struck a deal with the producer of Savage Garden (I don't care either, but they sold millions!) Off she went to Sydney, Australia for six weeks recording an album with a top tier producer. The results? One song released in Denmark that went nowhere! Years of hard work, record deal with top producer and then *POOF!* I'll never complain about being slightly better at karaoke than average Joe.
I can not state enough how embarrassed I am for the world neglecting how fucking instrumental Leila was to modern pop culture! You'd (not you personally, Der!) have to get a PhD in epicness before you'd even got an inkling.. Edit: short explanation. The woman with the 'real' voice, Jessica Folcker, waited about 25 years for Leila K to come around. And when she did, she was like "of course" I'll go on stage on national TV with you, because we're friends!
I just screamed "Leila K reaction at my phone and here we are. Leila was a total pest, but she's out of phorensic psych ward and doing better. And you do the "walking man" or shuffle to songs at this speed. Gotta learn to adjust....
OMG! Leila was a trainwreck (not unlike me!). She was to enter an arranged marriage to her uncle and ran away, and got a record contract. BOOM! She became the top grossing artist in Europe, while behaving very badly. Constantly caught for shoplifting, possession of drugs and ending up in a forensic psychiatric ward. Whenever I met her out and about she was...not very nice? She was an absolute pest! But I'm very, *very* happy to report that she's out from hospital and serm to have levelled out lifestyle-wise. She got star quality! Other songs to explore: "Open Sesame"...and - drumroll - "Ça Plane Pour Moi!" Text me when you've learned the lyrics to the lartter by heart! You'll never feel as great as when you nail it at your local karaoke bar!
Not the her BEST! My favorite remains "Open Sesame" in 1992-1993 during the Eurodance period and also her "first" at the end of the 80's "Got To Get" feat Rob'N'Raz in 1989 when she was 17, also one of the most famous titles! She even covered a French title by the Belgian singer Plastic Bertrand "Ca Plane Pour Moi" (which you have already done and dating from 1977-78, "punk" title) which was a worldwide hit at the time. I don't understand why whether it's in France or abroad, people don't offer the most famous titles of singers!!!! Kisses from France our American dude! 👍🇫🇷
