Bobby was a counter-tenor, the highest adult male range. That allowed him to hit those high notes as beautifully as he did.

He’s a counter tenor and has pretty much perfect technique. The entire song is a showpiece of what you can do with a supported headvoice.

How did he do that? Bobby had phenomenal voice control and almost 4 octaves. His range was B2 to Eb6 ….and that is a very rare voice type. He was a soul singer - he felt what he sang and made his audience feel it too. RIP

OMG the late Bobby Hatfield! No one ever sang this song like he did. I was in high school when I watched him sing this beautiful song on the Andy Williams show. He owns this song! No auto tunes, just pure raw talent!! Love these guys. RIP Bobby...we miss you! ❤❤❤

This was done (58) years ago back in 1965 (Live) on the "Andy Williams Show." The performance by the NBC Orchestra and the incredible vocals of the late great "Bobby Hatfield." Together made this performance the greatest live performance in television history. Brilliant!

The “host” is Andy Williams. He was also a singer who was popular in the 50’s & 60’s. He had more than a few hits like “moon River”. This was an episode in 1965 of his TV series “The Andy Williams Show “. The show aired from 1962 through 1971.

Best version hands down of this classic song. Absolutely loved the Righteous Brothers. Sadly we lost Bobby Hatfield about 20 years ago. He had a beautiful one of a kind voice. Home Free recently did a great version of this song. And Austin Brown also did a very beautiful tribute of this song about a year ago. You may want to check them out.

This has been covered by over 670 performers over the years but this is the gold standard by the late great Bobby Hatfield. His vocal range is unparalleled. By the way the guy in the middle, Andy Williams. This is his tv show which I saw when I was a kid and he has a fabulous voice. Anyway, the Righteous Brothers have many his songs from You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling, the most played song on radios and tv in the 20th Century, also Rock and Roll Heaven, also Soul and Inspiration. Try them. You’ll love it.

Computer analysis that I've seen say he hits between 22- 25 notes in this...this was the most covered song of the 20th century..while lost that loving feeling the most played song of 20th century...their individual voices can only be topped by...their combined voices...

Nice reaction ! Bobby’s voice was amazing, but so was his musicality. He knew exactly what effect his voice could produce and how well it suited the melodic line. Said melodic line is very basic: it’s from a song in a movie about a prison inmate who pines for his love (‘I’ve hungered for your touch’, ‘wait for me’, ‘are you still mine’). Nothing sophisticated musically. Bobby introduces lots of surprising harmonies, yodelling his way to the next chord etc. This is not easy: he must know BEFORE he starts twisting the vocal line where and when to land on the next chord so it sounds smooth and not dissonant. BTW the original song from the movie was nominated for an oscar in 1955

Simply 1 of the most beautiful songs ever, sung by the best. Not all men can appreciate it. Nice to see a tender soul. I was 6 when this came out---but the record isn't nearly as good. My sister died that year, so I also miss her touch in addition to my husband's when he isn't around.

He had a cold, his mother was in the audience hearing him sing professionally for the first time and he suffered from stage fright. The studio version which was used in the film 'Ghost' was great but this version was stupendous. No auto tune or gimmicks just pure talent.

Did you already listen to “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling” already? Listen to “(You’re My) Soul and Inspiration”. If you want to hear more soul, listen to Bobby’s “Summertime” on the old Shindig show. Hear Bill’s “I Just Want to Make Love to You”. Their first hit song was “Little Latin Lupe Lu”. Oh, as an encore listen to “You’ll Never Walk Alone” on the Ed Sullivan Show!

YES..These are the next songs you need to react to by the Righteous Brothers. Incredible voices..so different yet Bobby & Bill blend together so soulfully & full of emotion. Love your reaction & looking forward to more for this amazing duo. There's so many to hear. Bill is still performing at the age of 82. By the way you can't tell Bobby was getting over a cold here & he kept his big time stage fright hidden as he sang with ease. His mom was sitting behind him too hearing her son perform professionally for the 1st time so the pressure was on but boy did he ever nail it.

If you like Andy William’s voice (the one in the middle), he sings a version of “What’d I say” with the Righteous Brothers on this same show. Bobby even shocks Andy with his vocals! Do check out Summertime, also-incredible! Bill-“I just wanna make love to you”. And all the others “hkblt”said in their comment!

@edhorton2766

Andy Williams, a really fine singer, hosted his own tv variety show in the mid 60's. After this song, he and Bobby and Bill did a rendition of the Ray Charles hit "What'd I say." Try it. You'll like it. The RB did ballads, R&B, soul, blues ... A very different song featuring mostly Bill Medley (bass) is "I just want to make love to you." There is way more to The Righteous Brothers than most people realize. A studio version of "Unchained Melody" was used in the film Ghost. This live version by Bobby Hatfield is the real goods. An all-time panty drencher. The audience was asked to remain quiet during its performance and give it it's due. The shows' producers knew what they had and good on them.

No one sang this like Bobby. Bobby and bill also refused to ever mime, so they always sang live. I recommend that you also review roy orbisons "crying" with KD lang. The note that roy reaches at the end is phenomenonal.

I’m done I can’t watch anymore with pausing while he’s singing and also you can talk softly over the video instead of pausing. I think they need a class to teach reactors how to react as a watcher I like to see the expression on their faces when they first hear the song not talking for five minutes and then going back to the video and by then the vibe is lost
