Nick, when you said you needed more of this type of music in your life, it made me realize how blessed my generation was. I was twelve when this came out and so the most amazing music was literally the backdrop of my life, all the way through my twenties. This may have been performed on the Andy Williams show, as Unchained Melody was. Although, there were a lot of those types of TV programs then. Loved watching your reaction!
Lol. I met Jack Russell & his Great White Band at a hotel. I told him I don't really remember them. I was traveling tennis with my son in the 80's & early 90's, but probably heard their music playing in the car so "Id like to thank you for contributing to the SoundTrack of My Life!" Lol We had it good.
Bobby singing Ebb Tide so ethereal, Bobby ripping his highs in "Summertime.", Their duo "You'll never walk alone." on the Ed Sullivan show, Their duo 'Your my soul and Inspiration.' Their duo "I just want to make love to you."
You say thanks I need this kind of music in my life - Please review these: Jay & The Americans - Cara Mia ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pXfNGRcDYpM.html. and The Platters - Only You (And You Alone) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3FygIKsnkCw.html Remember no autotune & "LIVE"
This is called blue-eyed soul. These guys were the best. Bobby Hatfield with his beautiful tenor voice & Bill Medley with his deeper voice. They were magic together. And remember this is done live. No auto-tuning crap like today. And the songs had meaningful beautiful lyrics. Other great songs by them is "Soul & Inspiration", "Just Once In My Life", "Ebb Tide", "Rock & Roll Heaven" etc.
The music in the 60s especially the Righteous Brothers was such loving, melodious, talent - full, sounds. Their voices blended so well. They were clean, classy guys.❤
Watching you experience the joy of listening to the magic of the Righteous Brothers for the first time, brought tears to my eyes.... Great job...thanks for the memories!
Happy New Year, Nick! I have known this song my whole life and I am even more impressed with it now. In an age of auto tune, naturally talented and skillful vocalists are to be treasured.
Nick it was on Shindig. They were on the show from 1964-1966. The reason we have so many of their songs on video is because of this show. I'm very thankful for this show. If you didn't know here is a little history lesson. The Righteous Brothers opened for The Beatles first American tour but left them early to be apart of the pilot episode of Shindig. They were regulars on the show. Their song Little Latin Lupe Lu (written by Bill) was one of Elvis' favorites so he would have his people call the show to have them sing it almost every show.
No AUTOTUNE, just talent. They came at your emotions, even over a 50’s something first jalopy’s A.M. radio, perhaps inspired a lot of “back-seat” baby boomers.
This was either on Shindig or Hullabaloo, two shows on TV that presented the latest recordings. The backup singers were part of the show. One of them is Cher.
That was Shindig. RB were a featured act on the show 1964-66. Every musical act appeared on that show - Beatles, Stones, Supremes, etc., it was great. Music was usually live, unlike shows such as American Bandstand.
It’s great seeing my favorite group appreciated by a new audience. I’m going to see Bill Medley again this year and can’t wait! Bill’s latest albums all highlight his love of the blues. For another Shindig spot, check out Night Time is the Right Time with the Blossoms ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-uM-4CUzpjJU.htmlsi=qIKcytm3uHMPo0Fq. Bill won a Grammy for I’ve Had the Time of My Life, with Jennifer Warnes, which you should also check out.
FYI - Bill Medley has a new partner and they are still performing as the Righteous Brothers. They've planned a farewell tour that was to start January 2024. I found a show scheduled for June 6th 2024 in Arlington Texas. Bill still sounds amazing at 83.
It's nice to see the young generations listening to and enjoying the music that people of my generation grew up listening to. I was 2/3 years old when this song came out ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
It truly is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. If you're still open to suggestions, I think you should listen to 'while my guitar gently weeps' by the Beatles (writer and lead vocal: George Harrison)❣️
To answer your question of the show they were on, they were regulars on Shindig! which ran from 1964-1966. In this copy, the uploader slowed the video down & swapped the live audio with a stereo version of the studio recording. The original hit was a mono Wall of Sound production by Phil Spector. The actual live audio in the original video has so much star struck girl screaming that the uploader swapped it for the stereo studio version, which is why the background strings are the only thing in the right track & blare loudly in your ear.
I've loved the Righteous Brothers my whole life!🥰💖 Together, they have so many iconic, soulful songs.. as well as solo songs while they were together. In addition to "(You've Lost that)Lovin' Feeling", some of my favorites are "You'll Never Walk Alone"(Ed Sullivan show is a great recording of that).. "Soul and Inspiration".. "Just Once In My Life"(written by Carole King/Gerry Goffin, & Phil Spector, who produced much of their recordings).. "Rock and Roll Heaven"(AWESOME Song; they've updated the song at least once to include more rock & roll legends who have passed since the song's initial release).. And many more! Some of their solo hits included Bobby's "Unchained Melody"(famously used in the movie "Ghost") and "Summertime"... Bill's "I Just Want To Make Love To You"😍; "Brown-eyed Woman"; and in '87 the theme song from the movie Dirty Dancing, "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" which was a duet with Jennifer Warnes; it earned Bill & Jennifer a Grammy award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with vocals! Btw, a young Cher was among those who sang backup vocals on "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling"!😉 Other Interesting facts: The Righteous Brothers opened for The Beatles in their first U.S. tour! They also opened for The Rolling Stones on their American tour in late '64! (Per Bill Medley in an interview)They got their name while they were playing a little club in Santa Ana called "John's Black Derby".. Some black U.S. Marines from El Toro Marine Base had been told that there were these 2 white guys singing R & B/Soul kind of music at the Black Derby and they should check it out; at that time, white singers were mostly known for the "Beach" sound of music, like "The Beach Boys", "Jan and Dean", etc., "Soda Pop" music. A few of them Did go check out their show, and they couldn't believe how great they were; and at the end of a performance, one of the black Marines stood up & shouted, "That was Righteous, brother!" After that they'd greet them with "Hey righteous brothers, how you doin'?" Bill and Bobby had been trying to think of a good name & had toyed around with a couple different ideas, but hadn't really found one they liked until they heard those comments. Bill laughed in an interview and said they'd never think to use that name themselves as it was generally considered a slang term black people used, they would feel sheepish appropriating it.. they didn't want to appear presumptuous or full of themselves, lol! But after those black Marines referred to them that way they thought.. "Why not, it's a great name, lol?!" And the rest is music history. Also, the term "Blue-eyed Soul" was first used by black DJs to describe the Righteous Brothers; after they became popular, it became a general term for any white singer/group who sang what was then considered "black" music. This is probably only interesting to me, lol☺️ but I went to the same high school as Bill Medley, Santa Ana High, in Santa Ana, Orange county, Calif.(though not at the same time; Bill graduated in '58, I was born the next year😉) Thanks for your wonderful reaction to The Righteous Brothers and I hope you'll continue to check out their music, Nick; you're one of my top 3 reactionist(would that be the term?🤔😄 You're reactions are so enjoyable to watch - sincere, informative, heartfelt.. you call 'em like you see 'em and I appreciate you and your channel!😊
you did a great recap.... thank you so much. i knew some but not all that you have stated. my heart breaks that bobby passed so early... so much going for him.... heartbreaking. and now watching bill, i tend to think of him and his boys finally getting some answers re his ex wife's murder. what a wonderful duo they were.
I would make a correction: Bill dropped out of school as soon as he could. Wasn't uncommon back in the '50s. (Sad to say, a high school drop out from that time was probably better educated than a lot of today's college students. The state of modern education. I digress.😊) Not telling tales, he talks about I himself. And, as he says kids DON'T do that. He made sure his son and daughter, at least, finished high school. Edit: The second son that is talked about was Karen's from her second marriage.
This song reminds me of my late husband. I thought he was falling OUT of love with me. Instead, he was in the throes of undiagnosed lewy body dementia! I miss him so very, very much :(
I was a boy, in a car in the carpark of a pub in West London in the early 60s. My relatives had left me in the car with the radio on and THIS came on. It has never left me.
Nick if you haven't already: catch them doing 'You'll never walk alone', Soul and Inspiration, Rock and Roll Heaven or Hung on You together. There are many others but these just came to mind.
Nice reactions to a Classic song from the Righteous Brothers. Written by Cynthia Weil, husband Barry Mann + Phil Spector. Spector' "Wall of Sound" production adds so much to the song. Timeless and beautiful.
Can I make a suggestion, please react to Elton Johns Empty Garden at Madison Square Gardens. Written for his good friend John Lennon after his death. Beautiful!
I love it when music from my teenage years can impress your age group its just a shame that current music cant do it the other way round im sorry but current music does nothing for me ❤
Happy New Year Nick! You picked a great one by the best of blue eyed soul The Righteous Brothers. That song was produced by the late Phil Spector who was instrumental in producing for the Ronettes and a whole list of greats from the 1960's.
Yes my young friend! This was probably on American Banstand! Nothing like the music in those days! I’m 69 and loved those days of phenomenal music! Glad you all are rediscovering and appreciating this great sound!
Recorded on the ABC hit prime time series called “Shindig!” The Righteous Brothers had been the opening act for The Beatles’ first American tour, but left it when producers of Shindig! made them the offer to become one of the regular, recurring house acts on Shindig! Since Bob and Bill were from Southern California, not far from Hollywood where the show originated, it was only natural that they would jump at this golden opportunity. Not to mention the fact that if the show became a hit (which it did), they would gain a level of exposure that not even being on the bill on the Beatles national tour could give them.
🥰👍🏼💜YES,,,,,WOW,,, they are Majestic🙏🏼 God gave both of these guys the voices that surround your soul & hug it🤗🤗 you need to listen to their Whole Album, whether together or by themselves ,,, Definitely Goosebumps🥰🥰
And there you have it, with Cher & The Blossoms (Darlene Love) doing the backup singing. I was 14 in 1965 in the 9th grade & remember well hearing this song many times daily on AM radio, WINX Rockville, MD. Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Convicted murderer though he was, Phil Spector certainly knew how to produce a song. But even a lousy producer couldn’t make Bobby and Bill sound bad. Just incredible.
Blue Rodeo is a band you should check out. They have two lead singers and they have two different styles, but so good. I'd recommend their song Try sung by Jim Cuddie as well as Lost Together sung by Greg Keelor. 5 Days in May, Hasn't Hit Me Yet, and Bulletproof are some of their other top songs they have performed. Highly underrated band, known mostly in their native Canada. Definitely should have a larger following than what they have in the USA.
