I had a Great great uncle John who was there with the British allies. He was a soldier in 1895 victorian times who was on his final years when the war started. He survived but passed away before I was born. My Dad said the only thing he talked about was how he first heard Silent Night sang in the quiet and nothing else.

You chose the right video, Maria! Always read the description for the Sabaton videos...it will give you context but wont ruin your reaction. Important to note, Sabaton does not glorify war...they only tell its tales in song. To learn more,bgobto The Sabaton History Channel for an in depth episode on The Christmas Truce! Next...try an *animated story video* Night Witches! Ps: Never never cut the credits! The artists and crews work hard to make these mini-movies...they deserve 3mins of our respect!

This is the actual story that happened in WWI during Christmas the first year. All the songs Sabaton writes is about TRUE events or persons in war history. The do not glorify war in any way - they just want to teach us war history. They have their own History Channel here on RU-vid where they deep dive into the history behind the song. The beautiful ending operatic part was song by no other than the absolutely fabulous Floor Jansen. The drummer in Sabaton, Hannes Van Dahl (the one that almost got blown up by the grenade) is married to Floor Jansen from Nightwish.

It did happen . It was an unofficial truce by the soldiers on the front line and it scared the hell out of the generals because they thought the men wouldn't fight the enemy afterwards.
@bjoardar
@bjoardar 7 месяцев назад
The generals were right. That's why they tried to force the soldiers to shoot at each other, but they simply fired into the air instead, or warned the people in the opposite trenches about incoming bombardment. It forced the generals to switch the troops around with other brigades and they even placed snipers along the front to kill their new friends when they came over with a gift or to warn them. From what I've read, it took a week or two, but then the whole front was engaged again. The generals also made sure that the soldiers never had the chance to make a truce of their own, ever again :(

If you're looking for Christmas music, good ol' Tommy Johansson has you covered. He did almost 30 last December (including his own softer version of this song) and will most likely do a bunch more this year. His band Majestica also has an entire Christmas themed album.

Christmas songs, you say?! Tommy has 24 Christmas songs on his channel... one of my faves is O Helga Natt, which is O Holy Night in Swedish. Also, Tommy's band Majestica has a Christmas concept album, A Christmas Carol, w all original songs based on the Dickens' classic!

This happened and the aftermath was really ugly because of the higher-ups and the politicians who prevented this to ever happen again. I loved her reaction because she's got a beautiful soul and I can wait to see her react to Sabaton's amazing video of their Motorhead cover "1916".

It was the first Christmas of the First World War. The Pope had a wish for the war to take time out over Christmas, which probably influenced the first to venture out of the trenches. And no, they didn't want to shoot each other after they hung out, so units had to switch places with each other. That's why it was made sure it never happened again

Hi WIaR, I do agree: all groups believe they are fighting a just war; As soon as group members believe other groups threaten their group. What and who makes them believe this, is the question left till afterwards.

If you find the pretty side of war please let me know. 1916 is another great song by Sabaton. Those who start wars, aren't the ones who are forced to fight them.

Cool reaction, to answer your question if this was a real story, Late on Christmas Eve 1914, men of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) heard German troops in the trenches opposite them singing carols and patriotic songs and saw lanterns and small fir trees along their trenches. Messages began to be shouted between the trenches and the following day, British and German soldiers met in no man's land and exchanged gifts, took photographs and some played games of football. They also buried casualties and repaired trenches and dugouts. After Boxing Day, meetings in no man's land dwindled out. Now you must react to Sabaton's latest offering, it is a cover of Motorhead's song called "1916"

This song is about the beginning of the 1st World War on the Western Front. All Sabaton songs deal with true stories. The best singing voice in this video is of course our Floor. By the way, the blond guy who went out of the trench first is Hannes (Floor's husband) and the drummer of Sabaton.

This song, this video made me ugly cry and I was unable to shake it off for hours. It affected my whole day. I just began to cry again. This was WW1. Apparently it did happen. It also happened, or at least something similar, during the American Civil War.

I tear up every time I see this video, and I have seen it many times. It's so well done. And, Floor's (from Nightwish) voice at the end is so ethereal. True beauty floating across a very ugly battlefield, as all battlefields are. I'm so glad you let it run all the way to the very end.

Great reaction as usual, yeah, they tell stories about war, theytry to sing about real events, they go waaaay beyond when verifying facts, they even cooperate with historans to get everything right. and have history channel where they talk about the history behind the songs and why they made them. they are showing respect for the sacrifices made and they try to show how horrible war is.

Yes it happened in real life, Sabaton would NEVER sing or even make a song if this hadn't really happened. Go to Sabaton History and listen to Christmas Truce - December 1914 - Sabaton History 107 [Official] ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LJq64dF5ZfQ.html As I have written to you before, all Sabaton songs are based on reality and Sabaton also created Sabaton History on RU-vid, where a historian tells the story behind many songs that Sabaton has sung about.

The cross exists. It was erected in 1999 near Ypres, Belgium. The full inscription on the transept of the cross reads "The Khaki Chums - Christmas Truce". Above and below it are the years 1914 and 1999, and underneath that, "85 Years - Lest We Forget". To quote a line from "M*A*S*H", war is NOT hell. War is war and Hell is Hell, and of the two, war is a lot worse.

I would have liked to hug you when I saw how moved you were when you saw this - knowing full well that it is based on a true story from the First World War. 🤗 Many songs from Sabaton have a cathartic effect. "Winged Hussars" for example tells of the siege of Vienna by the Ottomans and the help - when all seemed lost - provided by the brave Polish "Winged Hussars", what changed the Situation. (btw. I'm from Vienna and they are surely a reason that we are still here - and now can be friends with many Turkish people). It's really worth to dig into Sabatons channels. Thank you for this beautiful reaction. 🎶

Wouldn’t it be amazing that after something like this the soldiers would agree to all turn around and go home. No more war. I think there was a truce. But will have to research. I agree, how hard to start up again after something like this. Like killing your friends. Awful!! Thanks for sharing. ❤️🙏

Maybe it's because we didn't show up until 1917. And it's not taught in the classroom. The American Revolution and the Civil War get the most focus. Anything after that is just the key points of what got us there and the end. Very little deviation if that from curriculum.
@fenrisulfur842
@fenrisulfur842 7 месяцев назад
@@pontiacfan76 Thanks for the response! As I said, it was no offense! But it brought me back to the early 2000s, when I had a lot of contact to US GI, just came here from the States, first time outside the country. Schweinfurt was the HQ for the 1st and the 4th Inf. Div. Since WWII, so the "Yanks" became more than just "Invaders". Back then, we met a lot of guys, and we talked about everything. It was weird, there was a huge knowledge of history and literature, like Erich Maria Remarques - "All quiet on the western Front", which they all got from the Army, but such less general knowledge of european history in general. We had such great conversations on that literature . On the other hand, I have no idea, if they made it back home, cause when the Unit had to got to Afghanistan, they were gone...do you know, what i mean?
