The D's musical abilities are really underrated. Jack has a godlike voice (especially present in their take on "...Baby One More Time" from Kung Fu Panda 4). But with their version of "Wicked Game" by Chris Isaak they will also steal your heart.

Yes that was ben stiller. He's actually in the movie as well as a worker of a music store. He tells them about "the pick of destiny" which starts their journey. 10/10 recommend watching the movie. Its epic!

That's the copy I have from back in the day, and I've heard later pressings don't have that part and have the same version from the video, though I haven't checked if it's true.

The song they played to the Devil was Stairway to Heaven; you can hear the basic tones of it underneath the melody, and they sing the last line exactly like the last line of Stairway. "And we playyyed the greatest song. In the wooooorld" : "And she's buuyyyyying a Stairwayyyyy. To Heaveeeeeeeeennnnnnn."

This was a *massive* hit in Australia (as I'm sure it was worldwide). All over TV and radio back in the day. This song arguably kicked off Jack Black's career as we know it. Was he in movies before this? Sure. But not on the level he has been since. This shit is iconic.

I’ve heard that the song they played was “Stairway to Heaven” and there are plenty of musical references throughout “Tribute” especially the scatting Jack does to reinforce that theory. But like all great art it’s left open to your interpretation, because we’ll never truly know because none of us were on that lonesome road….

If you listen to the chord changes, there's some Stairway to Heaven in here, which is a bit of a joke about what the greatest song was that they played. Tenacious D is amazing. Love this entire album. You do have to understand that there's a whole vibe, and ethos behind the band. They don't take themselves seriously, but the music is fantastic.

There is an implication that this song is referring to "Beelzeboss" from the Pick of Destiny movie, which is an AWESOME song but if you're gonna react to the movie songs you should start with Kickapoo. Other great Tenacious D songs to react to are Wonderboy (my personal favourite, but doesn't get a lot of reactions) and the recent Hit Me Baby One More Time cover

idk if you spoke incorrectly (as I paused it while typing this) - the song they sang to the Devil wasn't a tribute, it was the greatest song in the world. But they couldn't remember what they played, so *this* song, is a tribute to *that* song.
