He’s said that at a concert, 80k people might be singing along for 80k different reasons and that when they get to the parking lot, they might not like each other. But, in that stadium, they’re united as one.
Fun fact: Dave Grohl almost didn't put this song on the album because he was worried about blowing out his vocals singing it on tour night after night.Lucky for us he figured out a way to do it live without putting too much strain on his vocals and it was included on the album.
It’s because Dave doesn’t know how to sing. Dude sucks man fr. I don’t believe for a second foo fighters would of made it if it wasn’t for Kurt Cobain passing
Please - please - please. If you watch “My Hero” watch where the drummer who passed away - teenage son playing the drums. You’ll also get a live performance
True the Taylor Hawkins memorial concerts made the whole damn world cry. It was the most beautiful, precious, wholesome, heartbreaking, bad ass tribute since Freddie Mercury.
The abusers know how to get the best of you, to hook you in, and then they get the best of you when they smash you to pieces. Ironically, I was in a narcissistic, abusive relationship. During the love bombing stage, he got the best. I shared Everlong with him. My favorite love song that doesn't even say love. The Foo Fighters have this song, too, for how things can turn out. On a brighter note, they are David Letterman's favorite band. After his heart surgery, they canceled their short tour in South America to play on his first show after surgery. They also played Everlong, Letterman's favorite FF song, on his final show. ❤
Dave Grohl is just an awesome guy. Years ago, in Tasmania Australia, some miners got trapped in the mine they were working in and requested an iPod with just Foo Fighters songs on it to pass the time. When Dave Grohl heard that, he sent them a message saying "When you guys get out of that mine, there will be free tickets for any show in the world waiting for you!"
Want a great Foo Fighters Song that nobody reacts to? "DOA" is criminally underrated because they've got so many hits, would love to see your reaction.
Also BP, there is another side to this. Abuse victims allow the abuser to affect their life for years after the abuse stops. Allow yourself to be mentally abused by that person even years after the abuse has stopped. Hits home for me. Letting that person get the best of me.
I 💯 agree and resignate on that too. Like I let my ex get many years of the best of me, just to be abused and even cheated on. That’s how I look at this song.
The last time they played Glastonbury (UK festival) this, with the crowd, was epic. The whole set was shown live on the BBC. They're one of the rare bands that are even better live ❤
YES! One genius artist paying respect to a fellow great artist and the triumph that is this song! 💯 B.P., PLEASE react to Prince's halftime show at the Super Bowl... THE GREATEST HALFTIME PERFORMANCE IN SUPER BOWL HISTORY!🔥 #facts #noliesdetected
Look up Dave's PBS Newshour interview from 2018, there's greatness in it. He doesn't care what anyone believes, has faith in, this side or that.....he just wants people to have fun and forget all the sh!t that's waiting outside that concert venue. The lyrics in this song to me are definitely doubles, he wants people to interpret the music how they see it, not how he thinks it should be. He is a unique human, his speech at Lemmy's funeral was one of the best ways I've ever seen someone Memorialize a friend/loved one. *My Hero & Walking After You* are two of my favorites that you haven't reacted to yet.
Watch a live version of this....the crowd participation will def give you goosebumps... **Fall of 2021, my 7 year old grandson was listening to Foo Fighters with me on the drive home from school... Daniel said "nanny, he said my head is giving me life or death, but I can't chose....that's a really good line".... I knew I had my FF partner right then and there.... he has seen them live with me now twice....
A real great touch I find... is that he starts the song with :" I've got another confession".. like we just walked in in the middle of a 2am, heart on the sleeve, "I'm just gonna pour my heart out conversation" between two friends...
I never liked this song on he album, but I saw it live in concert and then I got it. 100k people feeling this with all their hearts. Absolutely fucking amazing!
This! I think seeing it live and seeing Dave put his entire heart and soul on the line and the band playing as if it's the last song they'll ever play. Fucking immense.
I saw them live when he broke his leg, a warm summer-evening/night in Gothenburg/Sweden, when he got back on stage with the leg in a cast and performed this song!😊
Oh my geez, I watched a video of that (US here) and at first I was like where the f did Dave go? and then his voice "I think I just broke my leg". Leaves, comes back and finishes Under Pressure that Taylor was playing...... lmao! Then I watched the talk show where a couple years later they reunited Dave and the Dr that helped stabilize his ankle for the next 2.5 hours while he was on stage in a chair. That man must have had some serious adrenaline pumping to not feel the pain at the onset.
I went to the Milton Keynes gig after that when he played from an electric chair that the crew had built for him, still a fantastic gig and display of musical talent even with a broken leg !
@@goosiegander I wen't back to the next gig a couple of years later, at the same outdoor arena in Gothenburg, and that time he had a stuntman dressed as him, and when they started playing, that guy fell off the stage during the first minute or so. Also a very fun gig! By the way, Axl Rose borrowed the throne later, when he broke his foot just before Guns reunion. :)
My son was 3 years old when I divorced his father. I listened to this song on repeat for strength. He is now 22 years old and I sent him this song and told him I hope it gives him strength, because in my time of need it strengthened me. He said “Mama I remember you playing this when you were leaving dad!” 🤯
My politics don't fall in line with the Foo Fighters either but I grew up with their music, I came of age to their music And I can look past that and appreciate the amazing talent that they are.
Photographed Mumford & Sons in 2016 in Nola, and out of every song that was played in between bands, Best Of You was the one that got 17,000 people singing at the top of their lungs. Will never forget that night
The Foo Fighters have many hits, and there's a reason why they are in the Rock n Roll Hall of fame and for Dave Grohl a 2 time Rock n Roll HOF . You should listen to Them Crooked Vultures which was another band he was in and was basically a supergroup. With John Paul Jones on bass ( Led Zeppelin) and Josh Homme vocals and guitar ( Queens of the Stone age) Dave Grohl on drums ( Nirvana and Foo Fighters). You could pick any song from that album, and you couldn't go wrong. Dave Grohl drumming is amazing in that whole album. Thanks for the content.
I agree with you . This is one of their best songs. I saw Foo Fighters back in 2012 2013 @ the Forum . They rocked it. This song has every emotion that I felt and still do every time I hear it. So glad you selected this song !!
I have a really great story about this song. I went to a Foo Fighters concert in 2017. During this song, the crowd was doing the vocalization. We got to a point where the vocalizations were supposed to be over, but we kept doing it. Dave stopped the band and said "What the fuck are you doing? That's not how the song ends. I want to finish the song. Do you want to finish the song?" It was so much fun! Foo Fighter Recommendation: "Times Like These" From the Taylor Hawkins Memorial Concert, "Rescued", "No Son of Mine", "But Here We Are", "Waiting on a War", ""Long Road to Ruin", "Hey Johnny Park!", and "Saint Cecilia."
He wrote this not long after his sister got out of a toxic relationship. Next song: These Days. Dave grew up in the punk rock community in DC during the Reagan years. Back then, punk rock was very anti-establishment. His dad was a Republican speech writer and his mom a liberal school teacher. So, his delving into politics isn’t really a surprise.
Wikipedia-"Best Of You" was one of the first compositions for In Your Honor, written by Dave Grohl in his garage following his involvement on the campaign trail for John Kerry. Once the Foo Fighters recorded a demo, they shelved it feeling they could do better. It was only brought back for further production by manager John Silva, who felt "Best of You"'s absence while listening to what they had recorded that far. Taylor Hawkins declared that it was the only song from the rock disc of that album that remained from the original sessions along with "No Way Back". Grohl stated that while many of his songs start with the music and lyrics come last, the words for "Best of You" were fast to write. Given the Kerry rallies inspired him to do "all these songs about breaking away from the things that confine you", thus came "a song of resistance. It’s about the refusal to be taken advantage of by something that’s bigger than you, or someone you’re in love with. It’s the fight in the face of adversity." Grohl added that "Most people think it's a love song but it's meant to be more universal, which I think is one of the reasons so many people sing along when we play it." The composition had no interest in "an interesting melody", instead featuring "a rhythm that we'd never really used on any of the other albums." The focus was on a strong performance, where Grohl could "scream the whole way through". During the first rehearsals, Grohl came close to injuring his throat and felt afraid of being unable to perform live, but eventually considered he could pull it off as "when you go out and sing words from the heart, you scream twice as hard.”
Thank you for posting that. Fits well with BP's interpretation. Wasn't really feeling the angst of the music with all the upheavals in my life recently, but the intellectual side of it makes for a really good all-around song. Just a matter of what I prefer to focus my attention on at the time - a much needed reminder.
Love the Foo Fighters! Have their whole musical catalog. They are fantastic musicians! My personal "political " views may differ from theirs but I don't let that get in the way of my pure enjoyment of their music!❤
as a father who dosent get to see his kids this song hits in a different way. i often wonder as my kids are out their how life is treating them. is someone getting the best of them? listening to the song from my angle hits so differently. its why again its such a great song.
I have loved the foo fighters for over 20 years The Pretnder, the best of you, everlong, my hero, monkey wrench, when the wheels touch down, rescued, our from under you, times like these, learn to fly, all my life and I’ll stick around are all 🔥🔥🔥. There a very few foo fighters songs I don’t care for. All in all Dave has an amazing band A house divided will not stand, food for thought
I went away from the Foo’s for a while because of the politics. But because of you I’ve slowly started listening again. And I understand why I loved them so much. Because of the music. And how good is it to see Taylor banging on those drums. RIP Taylor.
Foo Fighters is a fantastic band. It's amazing to see them still cranking out the hits. There have been a lot of 90s bands releasing new music lately, but it's been of... variable quality, let us say. Not Foo Fighters: they're still at the top of their game. If you want more Foo, check out "Learn to Fly" and "Monkey Wrench," among others.
I break down every time I hear this song. The lyric that hits me the hardest is sung the softest. "Are you gone and on to someone new." This is probably the saddest thing I've ever heard in a song.
Here is a story for you. Nate the base player lived across the street from me in Tacoma and his wife owned a tattoo shop called House of Tattoo. She pierced my tongue for me. They are some cool cats
Well thought BP. I love Dave's play on the multiple phrase interpretation. Makes you really want to breakdown all the lyrics. Dave's a smart cookie. Also, a plug for him, his book "The Storyteller" is a great read.
@@BlackPegasusRapsyou would like it because a lot of it is about family. His mom divorced his dad when he was young and I think it made him want to have a family feeling. When the band did summer tours in Europe, every band member brought their family along and Dave’s mom too!
No doubt that’s their best song imo!!!I the emotions that his vocals in perfect combination with the lyrics and music is just breathtaking, making me weak and strong! It’s such a reliable masterpiece!
Dave Grohl plays drums on a Queens of the Stone Age song. Its their most famous one, so if you look them up look for their top song. Im a drummer so i love it. Not the greatest song ever, but awesome drumming.
