Years ago, Joseph my youngest son and I were at WalMart. Joe walked up to me with a music CD in his hands and asked if I would buy it for him. I told him I would be honored to get this for him..... We got to the car and I played the CD for him. He had never heard "A Boy Named Sue" He laughed until his ribs hurt.... I told him John was an artists that sang about life. The older Country and Western artists did that. AND we all could relate to their songs.... Johnny was the real thing!!!!! I so enjoy you all channel, THANKS!!!!!! KEEP them coming please.

There's a bit more to the song's background than you described. As a member of The Carter Family ("the first family of country music"), June often performed in the same places as Johnny Cash. After a while, they became involved in an extra-marital affair (both of them were married at the time, and he had 4 children.) The song is about their affair. June is credited (along with another person) as the song's writer, but some say that Johnny actually wrote it and put her name on it. In either case, June asked her sister, Anita Carter, to record the song...because Anita had a better voice than June. The female back-up singers in this recording were The Carter Family -- Mother Maybelle, June, and her sisters Anita and Helen.

So do a good version, and just know Johnny use to play this in prisons to cheer up inmates. All so Johnny Cash`s cover of "Hurt" is just next level. A cover of NiN Nine Ince Nails. It`s from his later/second career, he was huge in the 60`s 70`s not so much in the 80`s, then he met Dr. Dre and Rick Rubin and had his second turn of fame with Def Jam records. The only other Johnny Cash songs I know is I Walk The Line & his cover of Hurt. Which I think the video of Hurt was the last 1 he did before he passed.

An album of his I seldom hear people refer to is "Bitter Tears". Songs related to Native Americans. One of my favorite albums and I had many back in the day.
