No idea how I have missed this, how have I missed "The Big Push". This is amazing, Ren's singing has made me go and get vocal lessons. Their version of English man in New York blew my mind and I can't stop singing it! Fan-f-ing-tastic! And to answer the question, I like the original but this version hits harder, makes me want to bounce!
The Big Push consists of four members from different countries, a Welshman, a Frenchman, an Englishman and an Irishman. Ren Gill, playing the classical guitar is from Wales. Romain Axisa is playing a pineapple ukulele, he is from France. Gorran Kendall is playing bass guitar, he is from England and Glen Chambers, the drummer (not featured here) from Ireland. An easy way to remember their names, the first letters taking together spell GGRR! LOL! As for whether I like the original or this cover version better, they both hold their own. The major difference in the cover version here is the multiple harmonies and the rich texturing of the instruments.
Ren is playing a Spanish (Classical Guitar). Romain Axisa is playing a pineapple-shaped ukulele. Big love from Spain. Edit. Loved the reaction man. Can't wait for more.
I"ve been hoping more reactors would look at The Big Push live acoustic videos. Would like to see Mr Biscuit react to yet another "entirely different human being" in the form of Ren.
A perfect follow up to this would be Ren featuring Romain (guy on ukulele) and their song "French Song." It's a straight up banger and really needs more love. 🎉❤
My favorite ♥of The Big Push along with a second favorite♥ "English Man in New York. a Sting cover. It's Romain singing in French picking that ukulele, genius.
Another fun reaction. I love this cover. "An Englishman in New York" is awesome as well. On “These Boots Are Made For Walking,” “Praise You” (Fatboy Slim Cover), “What Kind Of Woman Is This,” all three take a turn singing. The songs "Oh My Woman," “Swan Song,” “Sweet Little Lady," "It's Alright," “Dignity,” and so many others are equally impressive. Gorran Kendall is a singer/songwriter/busker from the UK. He is the guy on the bass. He also plays the guitar and the harmonica, and frequently sings lead for "The Big Push." As a solo artist, he is a folk singer, and his music is reminiscent of 60s folk. I love Gorran's music. Romain Axisa is originally from Toulouse, France, and started playing the guitar at age 12. At age 14, he was the singer in a rock band and later became a rapper. He plays guitar, bass, piano, and a lute/mandolin/ukulele type string instrument featured in the song "Bongo Bong;" opinions are divided over what Romain played in that performance. In addition, Romain sings lead on a few "The Big Push" songs. His solo music is unique, and I don't know what genre it would be categorized as. I really enjoy his music as well. I have Romain and Gorran on a couple of my Spotify playlists. The members of "The Big Push" are all independent solo artists who struck up a friendship, moved in together, and formed the band. Ren Gill, Gorran Kendall, and Romain Axisa take turns singing lead vocals at times, except for the drummer Glen Chambers (not present for this performance). However, each of the band members is currently pursuing a solo career due to Ren's absence. They also recorded some songs yet to be released. No telling what the future holds for them, individually or as a group.
Ren, Romain Axisa on ukulele and Gorran Kendall on base are so tight playing and singing together man. They all play any guitar so well. Write and more. Great reaction BP 🙏🙏🙏
Love the original, known it for many years but i prefer this cover, tbh. Both are amazing but the vibe and harmonies from The Big Push is just something else. I definitely get the feeling that Ren and the guys are fans and paying homage, while adding their own twist to it. But i get that feeling from every cover done by The Big Push, the love for the music and the craft shines through.
def!! and also not uncommon in non-female bodies btw😉 fun fact- in the early 1900s one of the most popular music genres was the singing styles of a Castrato, men who were castrated to sing higher than anybody else as their brand. check out Alessandro Moreschi. aint nothin new but us,,
WOW! Great reaction!! So happy you enjoyed this Manu Chao song performed by The Big Push. I have been a huge fan of Manu Chao for many years and I think this performance is absolutely Incredible. The Big Push has polished the apple and we are all the lucky winners. Hooray! Since you have asked for more Ren suggestions, I'd like to give you the name of another completely unique performance by his band, The Big Push. They presented a medley of These Boots Are Made for Walking'/ Satisfaction / Everybody - filmed live... in a definitely surprising location... and it's Great! Because you enjoyed their perfect three part harmony in their Manu Chao performance, I can hardly wait to hear your response to their harmonies in this fun mashup.
Picasso once said “good artists borrow: great artists steal”. Although this isn’t stealing by any means it illustrates a truism in all forms of art. You learn how to become better by learning from others who have travelled the same journey. Whether it be musicians, painters, actors or whatever they all hone their craft through examining the work that came before them. They will reproduce existing works the understand better hoe it was created. The larger the field that you search through the greater the vocabulary you acquire. The greater the skills you find beneath your fingers. Reach out and embrace all around and you’ll never be short of creative riches. Peace
Awesome reaction as always. I feel that not enough love is being shown to Rens track "What you want"...it never fails to make me smile...and is his way of showing love to early Hip Hop...I think you'd get a kick out of it. LOVE TO ALL...STAY SAFE
If you liked that I’m sure you’ll live their mash up of These Boots Are Made For Walking/I Can’t Get No Satisfaction/Everybody Needs Somebody! Hope you see it!! 😁❤️
Definitely rocking with ya. Love music 1, 2 and 3 by Ren is awesome. Also, what you want. Don't think you guys would be disappointed with either. Really think andyroo would enjoy them too
Oh my! Just watched your other reaction with Mr. Biscuit and could not stop thinking about Manu when listening to Ren's I Shot The Sheriff! And here we are! Wooow!
I know your music world is expanding, and you should add Billy Strings to your reaction repertoires. Try Taking Water or Watch it Fall. Dust in a Baggie is one of his most popular too. Turmoil and the Tinfoil... Meet me at the Creek... So so so many great Billy songs. He does stuff with Carlos Santana. While he plays a different style of music then Ren, there are a lot of parallels. He's super talented, he's insightful, young, and very charismatic. And... his songwriting is stellar.
The story of this song is even crazier! Manu Chao was the leading member of the band Mano Negra in the late 1980s. The original song dates from 1991 under the title King of the Bongo. It was later covered in 1998 by Manu Chao in his solo album "Clandestino" under the name Bongo Bong with new arrangements and a new rhythmic pattern merging with another song: Je ne t'aime plus. I remember a sublime concert in a small concert hall in the Paris suburbs in 1989 where I was overwhelmed by the power of their music. It was really new at the time: a mixture of indie rock, rap and South American music. That was 34 years ago! 😅
Who wants to be sitting next to me on that rooftop 🙋♀, just somewhere tucked into a corner with a bottle of Rosé. Quietly enjoying the scene and at the end sneakily going downstairs!
Have you heard their song called swan song. They perform it live in a church and its like an old folk song with amazing harmonies but its their song I believe.
Okay, answers to questions. The three guys are Ren, on acoustic classical guitar (sometimes called a Spanish guitar, they are basically the same instrument, nylon strung acoustics) Romain, the French guy playing the ukulele and Goran playing bass.
Saw the Big Push do this first on a Live Nation stream they did during lockdown in Goran’s (the bass player in the video) bedroom and then found this video. It is one of my favourite Big Push covers. Sums up a lovely summer evening and they are so good, as always. Love you reacted to both the original and this version.
Gorran Kendall on the bass, Romain Axisa on the uke/whatever that is, and is also lead singer in the French section. Ren's the one on the nylon string guitar you're hearing, and is the high harmony voice. Love this!
The other band members are Romain Axisa (the one singing in French) and Gorran Kendall on bass here. (There's also their drummer, Glenn Chambers, but he's not here) Tbh I think I love The Big Push more than his solo stuff, mostly because I'm more into rock in general (I *love* his solo stuff, don't get me wrong, so that's saying how much I love The Big Push)
RENosphere keeps giving... and giving... more and more, doesn't it?! I love to see that the expression of surprise about it/him is still on you. Thank you for continuing to explore this well of art and to let us share it.
The original is dope! I love Manu.. this versión is like a new song cause the thing is you can identify with lyrics but is no the same when you write your own story.. you give a new meaning cause no one is the same.. like hearing Love of my life by George M is beatifull but not the same.. they did a cover of praise you, by fat boy slim.. is great cover too.. you should react to that one too! Love your new single btw! Keep doing good stuff! Love 🙌🏻❤️
Bongo Bong was 1998 release and dude was innovating alternative music in his region so it's a really tough call. Just a whole different thing imo, there are so few covers to greats that really do justice but when they do they really do. I think this was a great homage to the original for sure. Johnny Cash does a crazy good cover of Hurt from NIN, Gary Jules does a really good cover of Mad World from Tears for Fears, Whitney Houston's version of I Will Always Love You is amazing as is the original from Dolly Parton, Nina Simone made Feelin Good a famous song again from the original Cy Grant, Nirvana did The Man Who Sold The World and turned a bunch of people who never listed to David Bowie onto him from that cover. Those are prolly my faves. This one definitely on the list now.
Agree with your list, all in my top 10, although my favourite covers are - 1/ The Stranglers - Walk on By - Dionne Warwick 2/ Jimi Hendrix - All along the watchtower - Bob Dylan 3/ The Clash - Brand new Cadillac - Vince Taylor. Also I fought the law - Sonny Curtis
Another great reaction! I haven't heard anyone request the Big Push's version of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun yet. It's a banger! I think the version in the Brighton Dome is the one to do.
From someone who grew up going to folk music festivals, working the Texas Rennaisance Festival & growing up with Celtic, Bluegrass, Jewish & Latin musicians...this is absolutely Amazing! ❤❤❤ and I believe the other instrument is a mandolin. I could be wrong.
Great fun. You REALLY need to react to Romain Axisa(the mandolin player in this video). He has an amazing solo song called "Love Without Feelings(Live)", I just know you'll love it. Greetings from Scotland😊😊😊
Loved it, thanks. If you'd like to see more of those boys having fun jamming in a relaxed setting - and if you don't mind the longer formats - there's 25min lockdown streaming session they did for Live Nation. They were living together at that point, hence the rooftop gig you just wached (no going out so get out on the roof)... Here's the link to that stream: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gCK15U2QVJY.html It starts with another rendition of bongo bong, but they also did 3 original songs, 2 of which they never released officially. So, if you are up to it, at some point...
Personally I love the unplugged rawness of this version really vibe with it. The og version is 🔥 too a real party anthem. Love both in their own way and in their own time and space ❤I did what you did when I firs discovered Rens version went immediately and checked out the original. So glad you did that too ❤
