When Romaine began singing you looked surprised, at his fluency? I think.. Yes, he is French. Ren is Welsh, Gorran is English and Glenn (their absent drummer) is Irish
I totally agree with you! This song is my happy place. I cannot be sad when I hear this. The original, although brilliant at the time, can be a bit monotonous. But Ren and the gang have just arranged it so well that it just breathed in such life into it. I'm so happy you reacted to this gem 💎 Can't wait to your next Ren/Big Push reaction. Btw you could add solo Chinchilla to your list. Start with Fingers (Live for Hunger tv) for a demo to her incredible vocals. ❤
Love it, one of my Big Push favorites next to Icarus.. 😂. What I love about Ren is he shares the spotlight. He’s so generous. Watch Gorran sing in Icarus.. it’s really good! Then the after video interview. Totally hilarious..of them in Greek God character. ❤❤❤❤you will love it!
Yessss!!! I was hoping we would get 2 videos from ya today. The fact that you both are musicians and sound engineers you fellas always have great reactions. Thank you!
This is my take on why Ren hasn't blown up to the level he should be at. He's totally independent. (He does have a small team of talented friends). He wasn't able to do shows or typical promos for his 1st solo hip hop album Sick Boi although his album became #1 in the UK. For more than a year he's been in Canada getting treatment for the affects of his untreated Lyme disease all while traveling back and forth to England to record music videos. Hi Ren, his viral video has only been out a little more than a year ago. But things are changing a lot for him now. He's moving to LA, finishing up his 2nd album. Recorded these retakes and has a number of collabs already recorded. 2024 should be a good year for him.
Yes, well known Brighton landmarks. Most of this in The Lanes. Must have got up very early to film the video, as these areas are always very busy during the day.
It’s also the roof Ren is sat on in Losing it when he does the fast rap part - and hes also sat on the stairs in Losing it that he walks down in Murderer. This is also the roof they did one of the lock down live performances from. It’s also where they were all living at the time :)
@@Dave1507 oh yeah - I was sure there were other things filmed there - and I think a couple or Romain’s videos are now you remind me (in his room I think).
The Big Push is just too amazing! They are just magical together. Definitely check out Romain Axisa and Gorran Kendall's solo work too. Really enjoyed this one 💜💜
Actually Manu Chao´s "Bongo Bong" released 1998 was already a cover version of the song titeled "King of the Bongo" released in 1991 by the French Alternative Rock + Ska punk band "Manu Negra" and Manu Chao was the singer of that band which was founded by him and his brother in the 80ties way before he started his solo career at 1998. "King of the Bongo" had musically a total different vibe (=had a bit more agressive singing performance with dominant drums as background and had no reggae vibe at all but was more like a punk music vibe) than "Bongo Bong" and also didn´t have the then from Manu Chao added "Je aime taime plus" part sung by his girl friend who by the way also participated from time to time at "Manu Negra" songs already. But my favourite song from that particular Manu Negra album was the song "Out of time man" which got then covered over a decade later by Mick Harvey for one episode of the TV show "Breaking Bad".
This is one of my favorites by The Big Push. They just make me smile when I listen to them. I am glad to see all the solo projects that they are all putting out.
Whenever I need lifting I stick this on, The Big Push are just amazing , I love each of them individually but together they are IMO one of the best bands ever!
No monkey can take Ren's place!! 🐵🐒 Not even King Kong! 🦍 I introduced this cover and a few other Big Push songs to a 78-year-old disabled woman I help take care of, and she has asked me to play Bongo Bong a few times, calling it "the monkey song." I thought she'd like TBP because they do a few 1950's and '60's covers (Johnny B. Goode, Be Bop a Lula, These Boots Are Made For Walking). And they also wrote a doo-wop song (Oh My Woman?) that's pretty amazing and interesting, because it turns a little "psychedelic" towards the end. Loved your reaction!
Love me some Big Push!! I put up a remaster of their Heart Attack video on my channel to bring out that great Gorran vocal. The level of talent is this band is just astounding. Great reaction to a killer cover!
Love this! Ren used to busk with TBP at the top of my street in Brighton, fans would block Ship Street/Duke Street on a Saturday afternoon to see this talent. Good days…Rumour had it he was signed by Sony, but got dumped when he became ill with Lymes disease, bet they’re kicking themselves now if that’s accurate…
Ren was signed with Sanctuary, a subsidiary of Sony, in the Trick The Fox days, at the very beginning of his illness. They had started to record tracks for an album, but he became too sick to continue, and they mutually agreed that he wouldn't be able to fulfill the "produce and promote 1 album in [time frame]" contract. They not only let the contract expire gracefully, they let him keep the masters that had already been recorded. Those formed the basis of about half the tracks on his "Freckled Angels" album, released independently 4-5 years later. It certainly wasn't the way anyone wanted it to go, but Sony weren't dicks about it. (Regrets? I'm sure they have a few!)
If... WHEN TheBig Push play their reunion concert I'll drop everything, buy tickets and go wherever this happens. A million followers are waiting for Ren and the Boyz to be live on stage again..😊
Sooooooooo glad you did this, this is too 5 for me, simply perfect setting, an unexpected unplanned video while they were chilling with food n wine on the roof top, awesome job, thank you 🙏🦉❤️🐊👍
If you're lying in a bed for years and can't do anything... what would you do? Films, Netflix, music.... and friends 🧡... Time well spent. Love your reaction. 😊
I love "French Song", and almost never see a reaction to it! You don't have to understand the French parts to appreciate the delightful playfulness of the way Ren and Romain bounce rhymes back and forth between the two languages. ❤
We're all putting out the "reunion" vibes... if wishing can make it so, it's a done deal. Actually, Gorran has begun posting music again and Romaine has a fair bit of new music so except for the drummer Glenn they are all still playing and they all say they're still friends and would love to play together again... even if only for 1 event. I feel for Glenn though, he's often overlooked and apparently is also a really good guitar player, he ended up on drums because he was the best drummer. (I've seen a video with Ren playing drums... he can hold the tempo but it's obviously not his best instrument.)
Please do For Joe. It takes a song of pain and turns it into one of HOPE. I just found you yesterday. I have been going through your playlist. You two are AMAZING. Thank you. ❤🤗❤
Are you not aware Ren became the first indie artist EVER to have an album debut #1 in the UK this past October with Sick Boi? Point being he IS starting to blow up.
If you want to hear Ren just jamming out on a guitar to an old blues song... try this The Big Push busking session: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bHEx2bPGlzI.html
The original has loads of percussion but no bassline. Goran totally nailed this. Romain's original from Toulouse, southern France, hence his thick French pronunciation.
Yes, he started studying for a degree in Music Performance at Bath Spa, but got only about a year into his studies before his illness (and possibly Sony's interest) led him to drop out. I'm sure he learned a lot while he was there, but he'd already been playing self-taught guitar since he was 10, and learned a huge variety of musical styles before he arrived. ❤❤
My vote for the next song is The Big Push These Boots are Made for Walking & Praise You on Praise You their harmonies are killer Do not get me wrong love the original song, but you are right this version is lots better Ren said on his last song release premier chat The Big Push boys are talking but it was the timing they are working on even if they do not get back together full-time an occasional new song or gig or busking gig would be heaven they are way too good not to do something ... ... You need to check out Gorran Kendall and Romain Axisa solo stuff their solo stuff is wonderful too Romain is a genius on the guitar and his voice is hauntly angelic . And Gorran's solo stuff reminds of the music of the 70s like Bob Dylan , Cat Sevens etc ... love Gorran's live busking sessions he does lately
like your reactions! if you are looking for and ORIGINAL and not a cover, may I suggest "Precious" or "Dignity" or "Sweet Little Lady"... there's a bunch more, but that's a good starting point.
