Taki and Mitsuha both appear as separate cameos in the next film by this director, Weathering with You. I mention this only to set the time frame with respect to this film. The cameos in Weathering with You appear near the end of the 8-year period after the comet hits but before Taki and Mitsuha find each other on the staircase. In Weathering with You, Mitsuha appears as a salesperson in a department store who helps the protagonist pick out a ring for his girlfriend. And Taki appears as part of the family that the protagonist and his girlfriend encounter in their joint business venture (the business of controlling the weather). Both Taki and Mitsuha appear as stable, content, and happy, even though we know from Kimi no Na Wa that Taki and Mitsuha are waking up crying sometimes and feeling something is missing in their lives. The message I take from that is that we cannot always tell from outward appearances if someone is struggling emotionally because they can still put on a brave face for the public.

I watch anime for more that 30 years but this anime is the best of all .The most beautiful of all .

Great reaction! I fully enjoyed it. Just a fan fact that... Mitsuha means three leaves, her little sis Yotsuha means four leaves, and their mom is Futaba which means two leaves. Their names are so cute! BTW, I love a movie titled "The Garden of Words" which the heroine is Mitsuha's Japanese teacher at school who was instructing about "kataware-doki (magic twilight time)" in the show. It’s much simpler story but so emotional about pure and clumsy love from a young boy. Please watch it if you have a chance😆

I know this is months later, but you asked why Taki was crying when he woke up (just before the date is Okudera). The shared timeline would place Taki at the morning of the day the meteor hit Itomori (Mitsuha timed the date so that it would coincide with the comet's closest point for a beautiful ending to their date). So, the day before, Mitsuha traveled to Tokyo to meet Taki, is crushed that she met him and he didn't know her, came home, had her grandmother cut her hair, and most likely cried herself to sleep that night. Taki's tears were from Mitsuha crying.

This is always such a beautiful movie to go back to~ Thank you for reacting to this finally. My favorite part would have to be the "I love you", hands down. When I first saw it, I cried like a river. And then, when they finally meet again as adults, it always gets to me. I actually believe in fate, past lives and magic, so this movie brought those things to life beautifully. (Well, not so much with the past lives, but sort of) I can't wait to see what movie you'll react to next 🙏

Also, did you know that they aired this movie at a theater in japan with Radwimps plus full orchestra playing the soundtrack live in front of the movie screen? Such a great movie! The director actually got his start making animations by himself. Not too special these days, but he was doing it prior to modern animation software back in 2002! He's made a lot of other great movies, I particularly like _5cm Per Second_ even if it is a bit of a downer.

Thanks to this film, theaters started bringing anime to theaters again.

There is a pretty cool anime. I believe it's on Netflix... Called Carol and Tuesday. It's about how in the distant future most music is produced with AI. But then a duo of two unlikely friends end up writing and making their own music with real instruments and without AI. And it's a fairly heartwarming story.

My favorite part about every reaction to this movie is how aggressive everyone, and I mean everyone, is in the last 10-ish minutes. We all want them to get together. To talk. To ask each other’s names. Immediately 😂

Your Name and Weathing With You are greatest anime ever made in my opinion (apart from some Ghibli movies)

I find it interesting that every person reacting to this movie thinks the way father reacts saying "Mitsuha...no...who are you?" is because he catches on to the switching bodies thing while im pretty sure it was just shock to how his usually more peacful and shy daughter suddenly cursed at him and almost punched his face

I watch your content and enjoy all your anime reaction videos but i don't use to comment. But this video especially at the end is a proof how much you enjoy what are you doing! Your will at the end to both of them turn around .. I love how real you are! Keep going my friend! And i can't wait to jump deeper in Bungo Stray Dogs series. Believe me is a masterpiece considered of some real life facts.

The reason they forget each other's name is because the god of the shrine that they worship at (Musubi) takes away the most precious thing they have/know. So as payment, it takes the names of their beloved person. However, declarations of love are protected by the Moon God, which means that Taki's message and feelings still managed to get through to Mitsuha.

One of my favourite anime movies, even considering all Ghibli's I truely adore too. Better late than never, you had a great moment and that is the most important. If you man like emotional anime, you ABSOLUTELY have to watch the all Made In Abyss series, it is an absolute masterpiece, ost are just from another planet (so is the anime). It is way more hard to watch but really has to be watched :) Important thing to precise there is a precise order: between season 1 and 2, the movie Down Of Deep Soul absolutely has to be watched since this movie is the direct following of the 1st season ;)

I saw it two more times the weekend I saw it the first time.

13:15 Just like to add a bit of a translation note here! What's actually going on here is the pronoun Mitsuha/Taki is using. She/he instinctively refers to herself/himself with "watashi" which is a polite and formal pronoun, though often used more by girls, not the sorta thing a high school boy would use. She/He then switches to "boku" which is an improvement, since boys do use this pronoun, though typically only young boys and more boy-ish men. Again, not really what a high schooler who's looking to act manly would use. She/he then finally lands on "ore" which is a more gruff and manly pronoun that the real Taki apparently uses. Crisis averted!
