What I love about this movie is the dichotomy between Mitsuha and Taki; Mitsuha has her whole life ahead of her and was given purpose by the people around her which was suffocating for her and put a lot of responsibility on her while Taki doesn't really have that and just sort of does his own things like a wanderer. It was only until they swapped bodies was Taki able to find purpose and pursue Mitsuha and Mitsuha was able to stand up against her father and start paving the way for her own purpose. It's like they found purpose in each other.

I love watching people reaction to Your Name, it starts off innocent, little bit laughs, and then you can actually see the moment their hearts broke ☺️

The Red String of Fate connects two people that are soul mates. They are destine to meet regardless of place,time or circumstance.

Taki only wrote “I love you” because he knew if he wrote his name, it would be erased too like what happened to the diary on his phone. Any information that would link their fate together would be erased.

The facts that some of these places actually exist in Japan is crazy!!!

Answer to to question yes the movie has the concept of the string of fate. Before they met on the top of the mtn shrine during the twilight(katewaredoki) reason why Taki was able to remember mitsuha was bc of the red string she gave him when she went to meet him 3 years b4 he start living in her body. Reason why they were able to meet on the top of the mtn is bc of the twilight time where 2 or multiple worlds can collide for a certain amount of time b4 it fades away. When taki gave bck her red string back thats why he couldnt remember her anymore same for mitsuha. Also the reason Taki wrote I love you instead of his name is bc it will be erased from existence which is the Musubi. Once mitsuha has passed away in her timeline on present day w taki thats why everything regarding to things written on the notebook or even on his phone was erased but him remembering her wasnt bc of the red string he had that was givin from her. Him writing "I love you" was the best decision to do bc it won't be erased also bc of it mitsuha will now have strong emotions knowing someone out there has loved and cared for her, she just doesn't know who and the strength to push forward to save the resident from the comet.

I'm don't know if you guys got this or maybe you did but just to clarify. Mitsuha and Taki have an age difference of 3 years but when they switch they are the same age. Taki is in the future and mitsuha is in the past . So when Mitsuha goes to meet Taki he doesn't recognize her because for him he hasn't swapped with her yet and is in middle school.

This was the anime movie that sealed Makoto Shinkai as one of my favorite animation movie directors. The art style in his movies is amazing. And RADWIMPS with the music score 😭👌🏻Thanks for the reaction and appreciating the art of the movie.

When taki went inside the shrine for one last chance to switch bodies with mitsuha he needed to make a sacrifice to leave from there something which is most precious for them for both taki and mitsuha it was eachother name and when he returns the braided cord to her ,she vanished because twilight ended so both of them forget about eachother very quickly just like a dream the braided cord was the link which was connecting them,that's why whenever in the last scenes her ribbon was shown he feels what he is searching for is close to him. He wrote i love you on her hand because his name most likely would have erased just like mitsuha entries in his phone and in Japanese culture love messages are saved from getting erased by moon god and director have confirmed mitsuha also try to write something else then her name most likely she also try to write i love you. Can we imagine mitsuha and taki have to wait for eachother for 8 and 5 years respectively.

That comet really has it in for this bit of Japan -- this is at least the _third_ time it's been hit. There's the crater the shrine is in, the one filled by the lake the town was built around, and now the new one that expands the lake to a figure-8 shape.

I know your all upset about not writing down their name. Thing is shrine god would of eased it like the phone journal. In lore the Moon God gives protection over words of love.Why the I Love You remained after they forgotten everything else.

btw many ancient cultures chewed things to make alcoholic drinks including in south america and africa. spit has an enzyme and chewing breaks down the fruit/root/grain/whatever. one theory of this movie is that this is how you have a soulmate. you've lived in each others body at some point. if you ever watch the awesome oscar-nominated film "Past Lives" it shows a similar Korean concept of interconnectedness called "in-yeon". no reason to debate which movie is better. they're both great.

Great analysis guys! Subscribed! Your Name is one of my favorite movies. Another great one by Makoto Shinkai is "The Garden of Words". It's only 45 minutes long but sooo beautiful and melancholy. NOTE: there is a final scene after the credits that is essential. Here's another idea also: I don't know if you would consider reacting to a K-drama series but I think you all would get a lot out of watching and analyzing Extraordinary Attorney Woo. edit: I forgot. If you love Japanese culture, and are open to rock music, you really need to experience one of the best bands on the planet right now: Band-Maid. Domination official live is a great place to start.

Mitsuha and Taki have brief appearances ln "Weathering With You" this films creator's next film. It's set between the times they find each other again so they aren't together yet. I believe there is a shot of the little sister also. I also recommend his latest project "Suzume". In fact look up all of Makoto Shinkai's work. All his stuff pulls at your heartstrings.

A few things you probably missed: 1) You remember the beginning (and the end too) where they talk about having a dream as if something's missing as they get ready for work? Notice how after they wipe their tears they stop to look at their hands... It's the same hand they tried to write each other's name on 2) In China and Japan there is an idea of an invisible red string connecting two destined lovers. Hence symbology of the string. There are other colors on the ribbon that represent other things too. The center white diagonal stripe symbolizing the comet, the blue around it for the lake(s), etc. 3) There's also this big thing about how the god their family worship is actually a fraction of the comet that's given their family powers to save the village. That's how they have the dance and the tradition to honor their god. The comet actually came at least twice before. To make the lake and the god's underworld shrine. Both times also created craters. So the god is actually the comet and gave the family the power to save it's people 4) And the BIG Whopper. Mitsuha wasn't going to write her name on Taki's hand. You see her start to write from left to right in a straight line, here's the many ways you can write her name, but the way she actually writes her name is with a curved stoke, not a straight one. It's seen when at the end of the first day mistuha is in taki's body. She writes on his body (his hand) her own name and begins it with a curved stroke similar to a reverse C. Instead, it's likely she was going to write sukida or すきだ. While you likely don't recognize it, it's actually in the movie. You can see it on during the first time she's in taki's body after the work shift and she writes her name on his hand And yes, the director/writer, Makoto Shinkai did comment that mitsuha would have written something else other than her name in a Q&A

29: 57 Actually, she cut her hair because she did get heart broken since Taki doesn't remember her, and not because the thread cannot hold her hair anymore. She went to Tokyo the day before comet strikes, met Taki, and I'm guessing she cut her hair later at night because the next morning (day of the comet) when Taki woke up in Mitsuha's body, her hair is already short. 40:59 Bro your singing voice!! What song is that btw? Sounds like a good song 42:28 To be clear, they only have this "feeling" when they saw each other in the train, something that could be what they're longing for. But they don't know each other and don't even recognise the face. That's why they just had to walk pass each other at the stairs.

Yall should watch "weathering with you" same universe but new main characters but there is Easter Eggs of "your name" in that movie

i watches this movie early 2023 it was amazing, but there is another movie that takes place in the same universe, its called weathering with you, i found that to be better than your name, althought it is an unpopular opinion, but if you guys want you should def check it out.

Hi! ٩( ᐛ )و I loved how you analysed this movie! I watched a bunch of reactions but the theories you’ve presented were a real tickle to my brain :D! Honestly go for it if you want to debate the differences between Your Name & A Silent Voice (but I’d keep in mind that both the movies have different topics and vibes lmao). Furthermore this route of reactions (which btw I love your vibes), there’s definitely the Studio Ghibli path to go down too. They offer so many movies, some very recent and they are so incredibly gorgeous. As a fan of Japan culture and more of animations in general, I’d suggest to go and watch cartoons, animated movies and others (like HTTYD, masterpiece) but with a bit more of a « grownup » vibe to it. I’ve been enjoying myself watching Miraculous and actually analysing the lore more seriously and when I presented it to one of my friend he said he really was clueless ahah. I also just remembered Bubble (I found so amazing how it was possible to D R A W bubbles 🫧 within a movie, when you actually stop and realise it’s all drawings…. man) as well as Words Bubble Up Like Soda Pop (I think) which are great too. And a last one (beautiful animation) is Suzume, a movie that has to do with doors and chairs eh eh :) ; it was in movie theatres/cinemas not so long ago and yes. Yes. That’s it! ❤
