1985 Into The Groove which she wrote she was originally going to give to Mark Kammins the dj who got her a deal to use with another artist he was working with as a thank you. then by chance Despertly Seeking Susan needed a song for a club scene and she gave them Into The Groove. it became a hit and she never told Kammins she was keeping it, he had recorded it but her version was released before his. this was a bside with Angel being the a side but this was the song of the summer

Technically not an album track from the Like a Virgin album but was added later in some countries. In the US The song was a “B” side to “Angel” from LAV. The song is from the movie “Desperately Seeking Susan” for which she co-starred. The song was pushed heavy on radio and MTV and everyone considers it a classic Madonna hit yet ironically it was never released as a “single” so has no Billboard charting history - yet I would argue was one of the more popular songs from that time. The video is 100% scenes from the movie.

Desperately Seeking Susan was her first real movie made by professionals, and she started filming it in 1984 when she was still a minor pop star, only known in the USA. However, her iconic MTV performance of "Like A Virgin" changed everything. It was broadcasted live around the world and catapulted her to global superstardom, even beyond her own expectations. As her director pointed out, when they first started filming, Madonna could walk around NYC without being recognised. But by the time they were in their last week of shooting, there was tight security and all the necessary precautions for shooting with a star on the streets. This was the moment Madonna became the Queen of Pop, alongside Prince and Michael Jackson - the only women who could outshine or compete with the most famous male artists. She started a trend that every pop star since then has tried to emulate as a recipe for success. Nicknamed Queen of Pop and after her Blonde Ambition Tour in 1990 she has been nicknamed as the "Queen of Concerts" or "Queen of Touring", Madonna had deep involvement in the touring game and stage shows, she oversaw everything. Madonna remains one of the highest-grossing live touring acts ever. She is still touring today at age 66.... It’s from 1985 - it was added to later versions of the LAV album in some countries. Wasn’t released as a single in the US for some bizarre reason. It was her first no 1 in the UK. Holiday reentered the chart, went to no 2 and was kept off the top by Into the Groove.

i like the dive into M's work! she was/is truly a chameleon... while there is a 'Madonna sound', youll find that as her career progresses she cant be pinned down to one sound or style. thats why starting from the beginning & following her path is the only way to truly recognize not only her growing talents, but how she conquered the world & became the biggest & most resilient pop star in history. THIS song has my high school days written all over it... was HUGE beyond belief. My HS used to play the radio over the PA system in the mornings before homeroom, and when this came on? EVERYONE would be dancing in the hallways! what a blast! less than 3 years into her career she had already become the most famous woman on the planet. and that was JUST the beginning.... When HBO aired her 4th tour, The Girlie Show, the promo tagline they used described her regal presence brilliantly.. "You never know what she's gonna do... You just wanna be there when she does it!" PREACH! PS... you REALLY cant appreciate M until you see her perform live. thats where she leaves all others in the dust!

Just watched this movie "Desperately Seeking Susan" this week on Prime, Really fun. The song is from the soundtrack and tacked onto some copies of "Like A Virgin". One of Madonna's early classics. Definitely popular in the clubs back in the day (my youth).

Into The Groove was apart of the 1985 re-issue of LAV and unfortunately was the B Side to another single 'Angel' so it was ineligible to chart on the hot 100. Despite this it's still a massively huge classic and arguably one of (if not the) best dance song of the 80s. You're referring to Madonna's first major film, 'Desperately Seeking Susan', starring Madonna, Rosanna Arquette and Aidan Quinn. It's a great 80s flick so watch it if you have the chance.

This is my top favorite Madonna song from the 80’s, then Holiday. Hung up is another great dance song that was years later.

Her music evolution really begins in 1989 with the "Like a Prayer" albumn. Here she begins to sing about personal tragedy, loss, broken marriage, racial inequality, female empowerment, equality etc.....

your thoughts on viewing the evolution of Madonna are right on! I suggest you consider doing all the videos from an album before moving on to the next album/era.

The song wasn't on "Like a Virgin"... it was for "Desperately Seeking Susan" movie. actually this song by Madonna was already recorded by another artist as part of that artist's debut album (I think Mark Kamins was the producer).. but when the producers from the movie needed a song, Madonna offered them this song (which she wrote).. pissing off the artist who would not record the song on her own album stating "I will not be the black Madonna!!" AS for DSS, the movie was about a bored housewife following the antic of Susan (Madonna's character) through a series of ads and notes in such a small paper, however when an ad appeared stating "Deseperately Seeking Susan" (when Susan goes missing after thugs going after Susan because the earrings she has were stolen), Roberta (Roseanne Arquette) decides to try to track down Susan but suffers a hit on the head, and she thinks SHE is Susan.. the real Susan and Roberta's husband team up to look for Roberta.. and discover that Roberta is in real danger by the thugs who are looking for Susan... it was a fun little movie. Madonna would try to recycle this in her "Who's that Girl" movie which, while endearing, tanked.
