As it should ALWAYS be. The music was what mattered, and their music was FIRE. That horn section just kills it every time. It's impossible not to move when KC is playing.
I came to make the same comment. I was color-blind. It was a wonderful way to grow up. Thankfully, I've moved back home and have renewed old friendships, both black and white. BTW, I'm in Mississippi, a state with a deserved reputation for racial conflict. Although, I've never witnessed it personally. It's probably because we are a small town. I know everyone and their parents, grandparents, kids, etc. It's hard to be prejudiced when you know someone 's grandmother and she's your neighbor. No segregated living here. Wish I had a time machine but I guess for now music is the best teleporter.
Ha - when I was in HS.. our "dance team" had a routine to "Get Down tonight".. and somebody's MOM (we suspected one of the jealous cheerleaders) convinced the principal that it was "obscene".. so at the last day before the performance, we weren't allowed to dance to that song.. we all freaked... but our cool 20-something coaches said.. "that's okay.. we'll do the routine to 'That's the way I like it'" Which is the exact same song, and nobody had time to object.. only, funny thing is "that's the way" was probably more sexually suggestive that "get down tonight"... hilarious... lol
oh, I had such a crush on Casey. Those were my days of having to babysit my cousins on New Year’s Eve, and he was on Dick Clark’s to years eve a lot. I think my favorite was get down tonight of his songs. Boy, I thought he was one handsome dude. Thanks for the reaction.!!
People can say what they want about Disco. Disco had no color. Disco was about the music and dancing. All inclusive. I miss the world of the 70's. And yes i wore bell bottoms, everyone did.
Good times. Saw KC and the Sunshine Band in 1976 in Roanoke Virginia. Good stuff. We really were colorblind back then. Too bad younger people think this is bad.
They were wide enough that I was able to make little girl dresses for my friends kids after they went out of style. Cut a leg off and add a bodice and sleeves of another fabric.
My dad was so cheap we never got bell bottoms until the late 70s in the bargain basement at Simpson Sears 😢 we still looked like badasses nonetheless! 😂
Other hits from them include "Boogie Shoes", "Get Down Tonight", "That's The Way (I Like It)", "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty", "Keep It Comin' Love" and "Give It Up."
The 70's was big on horn sections. KC, Earth Wind & Fire, Tower of Power, James Brown, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Chicago etc. This is our jam. No high school dance was complete without KC's music blasting. Dance floor filling good time.
For a while later in their careers Earth, Wind and Fire and Chicago were touring together, and apparently they still do sometimes. Oh, the horns! Tower of Power was from my home town. Oakland represent!
I was past High School and had joined the Army when KC was constantly on the air. I have happy memories of line dancing to KC and the Sunshine Band in the WAC Barracks lobby with the other girls. Good times at Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn, NYC - 1976!
I remember the golden years of the 70's and 80's where my country was colour blind...it was great. The divisive politics of today are tearing my country apart
He's from Florida. When my sister was a nanny if Florida. She was hurrying down the sidewalk. She collided with someone. They reached down and helped her up. It was KC
Its non existent in pop music, even more embarrassing where R&B made trillions of $ from the sounds of horns have abandon this type of music. Sad turn for music.
Back in 1978 straight out of high school I went to work for Disney world. I was minding my own business walking down the tunnels and felt the presence of a lot of people around me. I looked up and it was KC and the whole band walking out with me and he was the nicest person. They all were.
@@allengator1914 I hate to break it to you, every genre (which includes Disco...) is still alive and well! Disco was around for well over a decade, having started in underground clubs in NYC, as early as 1970. However, by all means, please elaborate on the reason why Disco was "short lived" - or, will you conveniently ignore your false claim...?
I just saw them in concert about a month ago, he is 73 years old now and still performing. He is awesome and was a heart throb for all the girls when I was growing up including me!! He has always had a mix of blacks and whites in his band. I'm white and never thought a thing about it and still dont.
Probably 15 years ago KC and many newer Sunshine Band members played our local fair and it was all still banging. KC and the SB had nothing but happy music, always made you want to dance, even their slow songs.
This genre was known was "disco funk," and KC and the Sunshine band were one of the biggest at the time. Other tracks include "Get Down Tonight", "That's the Way (I Like It), "Boogie Shoes" (released in 1975), as well as "Shake Your Booty" and "Keep it Coming Love" (release in 1976), among others. Everyone wore bell bottoms at the time (you couldn't find straight leg pants at the time), but KC and the band were known for their technicolour and bedazzled disco outfits, and the brass sections' coordinated dance moves while playing. During one of their concerts (can't remember which one), one of the band members started busting a move centre stage, it was awesome. Back then, the 'Boogie man'' referred to the DJ, and 'boogie' was also a colloquial expression that meant "getting down" on the dance floor.
boogie man- An honorific name given to Miami DJ Robert W. Walker by Harry Wayne Casey, "KC" of KC and the Sunshine Band, to thank him for giving Get Down Tonight lots of airtime and launching the Sunshine Band's career.
Hip hugger bell bottoms to be exact with halter tops 😁 & the boogie music... fun fun fun!! This old hippie definitely appreciates the memories you bring up with your reactions. Thank you!! ❤ Keep on Truckin 😉 Us oldies will remember that saying. 😂 Be Safe & Blessings EVERYONE ❣️
10-4 good buddy! What we got here is a Convoy...C W McCall or Movin' On...Merle Haggard. Loved Bj and the Bear and Movin' On, wanted one of those long nose trucks!! Always made my own hip hugger elephant bells with lots of sparkle🤣🤣
The hippy & disco era's were all about peace & inclusion, & race didn't matter whatsoever! I am not sure where it went wrong, but somewhere along the line, the division started again........I miss the 70's & 80's
My parents found it funny when this song was out. I was 3y.o., singing "shake shake shake, shake your beauty, shake your beauty" having no idea what booty was 😂😂😂
BP, I am a 68 year old white woman that absolutely wore low cut bell bottom jeans and pants made from any other fabric, LOL. And I dearly loved me some funky music, no matter the color. Really enjoy your videos. Sherry from Alabama.
Oooh yes, takes me right back to middle school. Loved KC and the Sunshine Band. Yes, we all wore bell bottoms in the 70s, kids and adults. Belive it or not, they were actually really stylish in the day 🤣
To hear the young generations this is the most racist country in the world. They WILL NOT believe you if you tell them we had very little racism by the time the 70's and 80's came around. All they have to do is research but they'd rather believe there is a white boogeyman under their beds.
I knew the moment I saw the title this was gonna be great! Lots of songs to choose from: Please Don’t Go, Shake Your Booty, That’s The Way, Keep It Comin Love, Boogie Shoes, Get Down Tonight etc… love the horns!❤️🔥✌🏻🫶🏻
One of my most favorite concerts ever!! 1978 was a great year. 😁👍🎶 He handed me a red rose in the front row as he sang "Please Don't Go"! Let me tell ya... I swooned! Lol 😉
Heck yeah I wore hip higger bell bottoms with platform shoes....danced "The 4 Corners" ( A dance of the times) to Motown music and other R&B, Soul and Funk music. This is,my generation's music. Boogie Man in this song refers to the D.J. playing music to boogie ( dance) to......all night or day, whenever you want to dance.
Back in the day, I had such a crush on Harry Casey. Great smile. I went with my parents to see them play at the local Six Flags (before it was Six Flags in the mid 70s. The arena was packed, and we sat in the next to top row. My Dad was an old time musician, he was a pianist/band leader of a big band in the 1930s. He loved these guys! He loved the horn section choreography! They were amazing. 💜💜💜
BP... KC & the SB are EXCELLENT! Every song is a dance banger. I was born in 1969 and they were their most popular from 1974-1976. I loved dancing to their music! My aunt that was only 6 years older than me taught me all the disco dances. Hell, 54 yo. and I still kick it. I have always LOVED them so much! They have so MANY hits!
Not many bigger disco bands from the 70's than KC and the Sunshine Band. His hits were monsters and played in every disco club on repeat. Good time music that got everyone on the dance floor and Boogied down. The man is still touring.
I loved my bell bottoms and miss them. Especially my hip hugger bell bottoms. Yes! Check out Le Freak by Chic. My sister and my song back then. I have it as her ringtone.
When KC & the Sunshine Band first his the airwaves, people lost their minds! It was fun, upbeat, and totally new! Then, imagine everyone's surprise when they found out that KC (Harry Wayne Casey) was a White dude from Florida! Just another blue-eyed soul brother from the 70s who changed music forever. :) My Okie mother was a HUGE fan of KC & the Sunshine Band! She bought a light green van with a wet bar and swivel bucket seats, and an 8-track player with bomb-ass speakers, and her FIRST 8-track was KC! When she came to pick us up from school, our friends lost their minds! LOL!
That's The Way (I Like It) Please Don't Go (Shake shake shake) Shake Your Booty Get Down Tonight Boogie Shoes Keep It Coming Love KC and the Sunshine Band had a stack of hits
I transitioned to what ever music era that was new. I went Soul music, Groovin' the music, Psychedelic music, Rock music, Soft Rock, Heavy Metal music, Head Bagging music, New Wave Music & more. I had the best time to enjoy it all. And yes I went Disco and my sister who is younger then me taught me how to dance Disco. I went to clubs & danced and went to the Roller Ring and danced disco on Roller Blades. I tell ya the mid 60's, all of the 70's & to mid 80's was the best Era of all. I got to live through it all & witness so much. Hell of a ride it was.
Went to Hialeah High School. Graduated in 1969 I believe. 2 years after I did. recorded his early music in North Miami s Criteria Studios as did/the Bee Gees during their disco era. Sang a nice duet too with Teri DeSario also a Hialeah graduate a year ahead of him.
In the 70's the word "boogie" was to dance. I was too young to go to the clubs when he had all the hits but I sure had fun dancing to this band in the living room.
Songs from my childhood. Loved KC and the Sunshine Band. I missed getting to see them in the 90s because of work & I was only a couple blocks away. Bummed me out.
They're a fun band and they even made you laugh, BP! ha ha. Their songs are upbeat and were great to dance to! Bell bottoms were cool (groovy) and the style in the mid to late 1960s into the early to mid 1970s. I loved my bell bottoms!! Thanks for a great time!!
They were so much fun to dance to ❤ I lived through the disco era. You should check out the band Chicago if you haven't. They have brass. If you do 25 or 6 to 4... it's referring to the time. (25 or 26 minutes til 4a.m.) Much love from Maine and keep doin what ya do ❤
They ushered in the Disco Era and were great entertainers live. They had unbelievable energy and were a treat to watch. At that time we called them "refreshing".
They were all over the radio in the '70s. Big hits were "Get Down Tonight," "That's The Way I Like It," and "Shake Your Booty." Definitely a disco and "Boogie Nights" vibe, all right.
