I love reaction chanles . It reminds me of sitting with my friends , listening to music . So these are my new friends , and love sitting and listening to music with them .
Rock band Redbone is a member of the Native American Hall of Fame, as well as the legendary Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian. Just a little trivia info for you today.
As someone who's from Louisiana i can concur that this is true. You can tell the Redbone. They have a beautiful reddish brown color to their skin and very angled appearance. There are lots of communities and festivals in regards to them and their history
Friday nights in the 70s were awesome for 2 reason's - Burt Sugarman's Midnight Special and Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. First national appearances for ands like Fleetwood Mac and ground breaking stuff from Rolling Stones & Bowie.
Shoshone Represent!!!! We got tunes... from back in the day to today, we got dancing and singing, it's definitely our thing. If you grew up on the Rez you heard these guys constantly.
A friend of mine toured with him back in the 70's. Leon was such an enigma to most & my friend didn't enlighten me any more about him. He was such a unique musician & person. Glad you brought up Mr. Redbone! Thanks & cheers!
The song originally 8 minutes long. The producer said it would never get airplay. Lolly worked all night to shorten it enough. Other songs are: We Were Wounded At Wounded Knee Witch Queen Of New Orleans One More Time Tennessee Girl Niji Trance Chant 13th hour Light As A Feather Suzi Girl And many more. They were passionate about their heritage. And yes this is from 1973. Wavoka from that album was very popular too.
I’m a kindergarten teacher and in 2014 those five year olds know this song as from Guardians of the Galaxy …. It’s also the intro song to F is for family …which is hilarious. I always love when reactors do this song ❤
“Red & yellow, black & white, they are precious in His sight.”❤😊Was it you who recently reacted to Ray Stevens “Everything is Beautiful”? If not, it’s great! I’ll look back. 😊😊
I always refer to this song as a hidden gem of the 70's. I love watching the reaction from people who had no clue! Haha! Everyone knows the song, not everyone knows Redbone. This is one of my favorite songs, always has been. ❤
What you said in the beginning is very true! The exposure you give to many artists, to people that otherwise would never have seen them, is much appreciated! (At least by me lol) ❤
Priceless Reaction!!! You’ve seriously brought back some happy memories. My dad Eli was Okla. Cherokee, & way back in the day there were three songs that blasted in our house. This amazing song, “Indian Reservation” by Paul Revere & The Raiders, and of course “Eli’s Coming” by Three Dog Night. Thanks😊
Loved the powwow I was privileged to see while living in Colorado in the 90's...had friends in the Ute tribe . This was southern part of state...you can keep Denver lol
This song makes me proud to be an American Indian! The Naitive dress they used for special ceremonies and traditional powwows are presented on stage with this song reminiscent of the ancestral tradition.
My band in the early '70s, Axis, from S. FL played a rock festival with these guys in Williston, FL north of Gainesville. They rocked the festival of 20,000 attendees.
The opening always makes me think about what we seem to have lost over the years. "Check out our culture, it's awesome" has been replaced by "This is ours, you can't appreciate it" as people went from building bridges to manning walls.
Pat and Lolly Vegas were incredible studio session guitarists. From the 1950's through the early 80's. They fully embraced their native american ancestry.
This song was extremely popular in the 70's, I loved it and it was a personal favorite. I was in grade school the first time I heard it, 6th grade I think. He does look like Lou Diamond Philips.
Redbone is the first Native group to make the top ten on Billboard. Their placement in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie is perfect. I have one for you, BP: "Jeff Beck Group" is the name of the album and check out "Ice Cream Cakes" or "Sugar Cane" as well as other songs on the album. Jeff BEck was one of the guitar gods of the sixties and beyond who came out of the British Invasion of the "60's" This album is from 1972 and you won't regret it. I'll be watching for it.
Thanks, guys.. I saw this live performance on TV as a teenager, and already knew the song from "radio".. I was amazed.... what a talented group... appreciated the native American info... nobody on "radio" told us that sh*t! appreciate your reactions...
They started this video with a part of an authentic "Pow-Wow" before the transition into the song. You should witness the entire thing. Pretty cool for a band comprised of all Native Americans.
I love when joee is on here. I immediately subscribed to his channel after his reaction with you to Falling in Reverse. He's amazing!! I'd love to see him on here more.
Great song and great band! My husbands family is Native American from Washington State, Neah Bay and the Makah Nation. My daughters are biracial black and white and my oldest daughter was called redbone as a teen girl in the early 2000’s. Enjoy this song it’s great to dance too when you have a get together or party! ❤
Starlord had a tape and player of the music he liked in his backpack when he was kidnapped.. and thats all he had from home.. so that tape of music was very important to him. The present his dying mother gave him he never opened.. so at end of 1st movie he opens it and she made another tape of songs.. 70s.. Then 80s..
I just realized that this intro is almost the same as the intro that Outkast used in their Hey Ya 2004 Grammy's performance. I don't believe that's a coincidence. 😂
I am glad you are doing these reactions and learning how good we had it back then. It was all about the music we didn't care who made it or what they looked like.
The bassist is Pat Vegas and the one singing is his brother "Lolly" Vegas. They are of Indigenous (Yaqui/Shoshone) Mexican descent. The other guitarist (dancing) is Tony Bellamy. He is listed as Indigenous (Yaqui) Mexican descent. Lou Diamond Phillips is of Scots-Irish and Cherokee descent via his father. Nothing noted about his mother. Both (Pat Vegas and Phillips) are handsome men and there is some similarity present in their features and stage presence when they were both younger. Diamonds played Ricky Valens in La Bamba.
I worked with a lady who knew the drummer and he told her the song was about Heroin - listen to the song again - I wish I didn’t know that as I love this song!
🇬🇧 Great reaction👌. Joe's face was a picture for sure. And it's reactions like this is why I LOVE reaction channels. Don't get me wrong, I don't subscribe to lots of reaction channels, (including yourself, 6). ❤🎼🎶
You've seen the ribbon symbol that's all different things? It all started from a song by Tony Orlando and Dawn called 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree' give a listen if you want to know where the ball started rolling. They are another mixed race group that made it.
Funny you should say that one guy looks like Lou Diamond Phillips. Lou does has Cherokee blood from his father who was "an American of Scots-Irish and Cherokee descent". From Wikipedia: He has remained close to the Native American community and was adopted by an Oglala Lakota Sioux family in a traditional ceremony in 1991.[44] His Lakota name translates to "Star Keeper".[45] In 1990, Phillips organized a concert called "The Winds of Life" to benefit Native American causes.[46]
Heard this in the Uk when i was about seven . Amazing band and reaction videos bring old , young , past , present and world wide together! Also what a beautiful way to celebrate music especially for artists who have passed away there legacy and talent l7ves on and bring people together. Reaction videos rock ❤❤❤
