This song was so popular that when MTV had vote for song daily countdown show, Dial MTV, to play for the day, it had to be retired because it always won.
It was retired after 100 wins, but those wins were not consistent - the only video that occasionally outvoted it during its run was "Tears Are Falling" by KISS.
Motley Crew kicked booty. Tommy Lee on his revolving drums was awesome in concert. Vince Neil had the pipes. When I went to buy my stereo I had them play Dr. Feelgood to check the bass lol.
this song is responsible for the greatest concert moment in my life. i got to see them live and Tommy came out to play one note on the piano, we as the audience sang the entire song in key mind you and then they came out and performed the song again from start to finish. greatest concert moment of my life.
Man, I miss the 80's. Long hair, leather jackets, fast cars, and great music. Five bucks got you a red plastic dixie cup and all the beer you could drink at the every Friday night keg parties. The girls were hot and Motley Crue was always on the radio. I love Motley Crue, and I love your reactions. Keep up the great work. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I second that sentiment!! Times were different back then that's for sure...miss the old days when music was about live performances, concerts, and a feeling of freedom through EXPERIENCING the music, not just hearing it...participating IN it!!😃🎶❤✌
When I was in the army in Korea, we had a cassette tape that was passed around with this song on it that was played when someone was about to leave country and come home. That was in 89.
A good friend of mine who is a roadie, started his career doing security for Motley Crue when he was in college. He definitely had some wild times with them.
Back in the early 2000’s, I was in a music store looking for supplies for my drum kit. A guy sat down at a Roland piano and started playing this. I grabbed a pair of sticks, counted in, and picked up at the drum drop. We played the whole song. It was awesome!! When we finished the song, the clerk said “that was cool! Don’t ever do it again!! How are you gonna pay for those sticks??!” 😂🤣. Great times.
This video was filmed in Houston when I was in seventh grade. The local radio hyped it so much and asked everyone to bring a lighter for this song. I wanted to go to that show so bad. My mom said no, but I got to see them on the Girls, Girls, Girls tour a year and a half later at the same venue.
Parts of it were filmed in different venues on that tour. I was at the Amarillo concert where they were also filming. Notice their outfits except for Vince weren't always the same
I was a Marine stationed in the Far East just before, during and after the Gulf War. Every week, Monday thru Friday, the Armed Forces Radio television channel would show the schedule of flights returning to the US while this song and Joe Satriani’s Flying in a Blue Dream played in the background. Those two years were very difficult for me, but these two songs kept my hopes of returning home alive.
This is one of the best rock anthems ever and Mötley Crüe was one of the wildest rock 'n' roll bands ever. I liked how they showed Mick Mars in the gothic setting speaking in an almost demon like voice at the beginning. Hope the vertigo is better Burch. 🙏🙌✌️
They were already on the rocket ship on the way up but this song kicked in the afterburners and launched them into the stratosphere. This, like Beth with KISS, basically showed what it took for metal artists to get radio airplay. That's when record companies came up with the formula that a band's 1st single would be heavy to hook the metal fans (or please the fans if an already established band) and then the 2nd single would be a ballad to get women fans and get radio airplay. Pretty much every band, pretty much every album.
The camera work and the editing of this video is second to none. I think it even keeps rising on the all time top 100 videos. This was the golden age of rock concerts hands down.
This song reminds me of my time in the Navy. Every time we were on deployment and were released to return to homeport, they would play this song over the ship's announcement system.
I saw them a few times back in those days, I've been to tons of rock and/or metal shows and their shows were some of the funnest that I have been to 😊 and Brian I can confirm is telling the truth about all the skin showing at those shows 😂
When people say that it was so popular on Dial MTV that they had to create a rule to retire it, it's important to underatand that it was the #1 most requested video for *6 MONTHS STRAIGHT*.
Sure the piano was nice but dang Mick's blazing, powerful guitar is what makes this song fire for me. Then Neil's vocals, then the ivories. Beautiful song.
The good old days, when Vince Neil had a voice. Sorry Vince I' m one of those who tore your white leather pants (in this video) in Paris in 1986. Maybe too much booze... ;)
It was fun, loud, raucous music back then, and the musicianship was there, too. Then alternative and grunge happened, and there went that idea. The song is one of two good songs on that album, the other one being their cover of "Smokin' in the Boys Room". Crue's substance abuse and egos were running hard back then. "Dr. Feelgood" was their peak album with their original lineup. So many hits off that one!
The 80's was a blast. An amazing time to grow up in. People weren't angry all the time. Most didn't feel the need to project their political opinions and social causes on everyone else. And the music was just...better. I'm glad to have been a teen in that time.
You both need to check out Maybe Its Time by Sixx AM - Nikki Sixx new band. but check out the version with numerous artist. it was made to raise awareness of opioid addiction
I remember going to see Sammy Hagar on his "Three Lock Box" tour. I have never seen so many red bras and red panties thrown up on to the stage at one concert before in my life. Yeah, it was the 80s and life was good.
It's been 39 years since it was released and it still puts a smile on my face. (Speaking of W.A.S.P., you should check out their video for Lake of Fools, even if you don't do a reaction on it.)
"Blind in Texas" for the absurd. "I Don't Need No Doctor" for a concert like experience. And "Forever Free" for the closest thing WASP will do to a power ballad.
I saw the Crue in like 99 and they had a big screen behind the band and during part of the show Tommy had a camera and the girls were getting shown flashing on the screen. Also one lady would do flashing constantly every time Vince went to her side of the stage. So it wasn't just an 80s thing 😂
When I was stationed at Kadena Air Base (Okinawa Japan) in the mid 80s this was the song we dedicated to the airman that were heading home soon at the NCO club.
If you ever learned to play guitar mick Mars really knows how to make songs really fun to play If you think his voice is really good in this song you should check out there songs from there first album he really has a better voice
It wasn’t just bras.. Panties were thrown. A lot of wild stuff going on with that. I remember being 14 years old standing there with my dad at a Van Halen concert 1984 and all of a sudden these two girls got up on the sound and light stage and a spotlight came down from somewhere onto them and they pulled up their shirts and wiggled their boobs around.. talk about a roar of the crowd that was one of the loudest points of the concert . And it wasn’t even the concert . a lot of times that a lot of those rock metal concerts. Women / girls would just be shirtless or with their tops lifted up throughout the entire concert..
Professor of Rock has a great video about this song. The band had to commission the video themselves, because the label refused to back the song in any way. They had to force the issue of the song being on the album. Basically telling the label it was on the album or they found a new label. It's the only song on the album Neal has any love and respect for.
Crew is so not goth. You should introduce her to Peter Steele and Type O Negative - Love You To Death. We shall see what she says once he starts singing with that deep voice.
@@flickeringboxofficial I ended up listening to a lot of goth music over the years after punk, surf punk, grunge, alt metal etc. It just kind of irks me most people have little to no exposure to actual goth music the just see black clothes = goth. By that observation J Cash would be goth. The sound defines the band not their appearance. I stand by the Type O Negative statement. Peter Steele had a voice that melted women and men alike. Like many musicians in all genres of that era he left the planet too soon.
If I'm not mistaken, MTV finally had to change the rules of fans voting for videos for the video countdown. People would call in for Home Sweet Home so much, it was out of control. I didn't mind, because this was in a time of my life that I was all in for the Crüe. I listened to a lot of metal back then, but Crüe dominated my listening time. I had 2 poster walls in my bedroom, of nothing but Mötley Crüe. The other walls were Iron Maiden, Rush, Ozzy, Judas Priest, Ratt, W.A S.P., Y&T, Keel, etc.
I saw this tour in 85! Oh the memories! You should show Alexis the RU-vid video called “ Heavy metal parking lot” from the mid 80’s! Fashion and the kids will fascinate her
I saw this tour in Hampton Roads, VA and saw more woman's anatomy than I ever saw in Playboy........ It was a fantastic concert, and Tommy Lee in his cage playing upside down over the audience is something I will never forget!
Hey, Burch, you mentioned W.A.S.P.. So I thought I'd recommend y'all checking out how that Blackie and the guys have gotten saved since their former days, with the video, Golgotha. Trust me, this ain't the old W.A.S.P. at all!
I was at the Godsmack/Metallica show in '07. After five years of no hour. So after the Godmack opening. They brought the house lights up to reconfigure the stage. So at least 20 girls were flashing they're boobs. Every one got escorted out. Maybe 1/2 came back with ticket in hand. So they were booed when they left. And standing ovation when came back. The most hilarious thing I've ever seen at a show.
Speaking of circuses, you should check out White Trash Circus from Crues Saints of Los Angeles album. The album was supposed to be the soundtrack for the movie The Dirt, but the movie was delayed.
W.A.S.P would be a great idea the only thing is most of their best songs don’t have videos to them. There is one for “wild child”, “I wanna be somebody” and “I’m blind in Texas”. Possibly “scream until you like it” but that would be for the movie it was in. Personally my favorite songs are “mean man”, “Chainsaw Charlie” and the entire album “live in the raw”! Most of those could never play on MTV.
When Rock music isn't popular, it doesn't die: it just starts splitting rent with Country music. This is one reason why people today get confused about whether Lynyrd Skynyrd is Rock or Country. Well, that and that, in my opinion, Skynyrd sounds like Rock, but feels Country. I guess it's that Southern thang.
Wasn't weird, like I said The Crew at Hollywood Sportitorium South Fl was a freak show in and outside. Heck my GF did the,,,, yea so. And she had the Lita black-like outfits too. No not backstage so lol. Girls Girls Girls you saw the chopper come in to. But every 80s concert was a circus, there's a tad more than others, God I miss those baaaaann GFs too lol.
It was a cool moment in the Theatre, GGG and Dr. Feelgood tours when they rolled out the piano and Tommy slid behind the keys... back when Vince could still sing, heh... and no kidding, when the circus was in town... after parties at The Mason Jar, it was nuts...
For another video with fish out of water metal guys at the beach, you must watch Summertime Girls by Y&T. The whole thing takes place at the beach and was filmed at the Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, CA. It’s a hilarious video, though nowhere near their best song.
So many complaints about this song as other bands had hardly a chance to be on MTV , that's how popular that is, still today everyone can sing along, remember that song was released on 1985 some 39 years back. Motley really rules..... still today.
I was a freshman in college in 1985. This song was the number one video for what seemed like a whole year on the MTV countdown. They wore this on out for sure. Too bad, it was a pretty good song. Every time I hear it now, I remember how pissed off I was when this came in number 1 AGAIN! Not the bands fault. But MTV and radiio ruined this song for me. It played on the rock stations about every 5th song.
Yes! Definitely do W.A.S.P.... Still one of the few bands from the 80s i cant get tired of listening to and i think part of that reason is because you rarely hear them played anywhere. Love the reactions as always!
Have you all considered doing a couple punk videos (since most are so short) from the early 80's. Don't know under what context tho. Keep doing great work!
They played the Omni in Atlanta one year and next door to the Omni was the Omni International that had a huge open-air atrium. When you parked, you had to walk thru the International to get to the Omni. A buddy and myself went with no tickets just to sit in the international atrium and drink beer and people watch. It was very entertaining.
Have you reacted to Shout At The Devil, Too Young To Fall In Love or Live Wire yet? And have you thought of reacting to the Netflix film on the Crüe The Dirt?
The term for Motley crew with the big Teased out here. The makeup and Flashy clothes. Is Glam And not really Goth. Goth is completely different. It's more related to punk or a new wave.
That’s a fun song to listen to in fact I love Motley Crue’s music especially their older albums such as Girls , girls ,girls. I have a question Burch can you react to “ you’re all I need?” I know it’s a controversial video and it’s content but it’s a tragic love story
The video for that concert was filmed in Houston Texas at the summit. My Courson is whatever happened to the girl that flashed her breast😆😂. He’s not lying about the concerts man. They were so great back in the day you were wild and free everybody having a good time nobody hating on nobody having some beers smoking some weed and just having a blast being young had a bad ass rock concert.
Fun fact. I've listened to "hair metal" almost my whole life, and I am now truthfully allergic to the sun. I can't spend much if any time out in the sun without medical repercussions. Now, I don't really think one has to do with the other.....or does it?
Went to the Girls Girls Girls concert in Memphis and the last song was the title track. When the motorcycle sound started, we thought they would ride out on the stage aka Judas Priest. Instead a giant hissing sound started and huge blow up motorcycle inflated behind the stage. It was so cheezy, we laughed. For some reason that's the only thing I remember. That and 5 gorgeous midgets looking at us.
Yes, I got benched as starting running back and pump returner in high school because this concert landed on a Friday night. My awesome mom gave me a note of why I wouldn't make the game but I got rated out by people at school that new where I was. Shouldn't have worn that concert shirt,
I was 12 when this came out and I've seen the video at least 1,000 times. I never saw the intro portion before. It always started with the bus and the music roll in.
In retrospect music in the 80s might lean toward being cheesy, but at least it was about having fun. What came after was definitely not fun, even if it was also good.
I said the same thing. Girls at country concerts now are like the 80s girls at hair metal concerts. I went to a Luke Combs concert and I’m 50 years old but that was most drunkest and rowdiest girls I’ve ever seen.
