I was born and raised in Indonesia and migrated to Germany about 52 years ago. I have travelled and visited almost 100 countries and the best desserts are always from Indonesia. My favorites are lemper, waji, lapis and onde2. Have a nice time in Indonesia
As a born and raised Indonesian living in Europe for most of my life at this point, your videos in Indonesia are truly a remedy for my homesickness. Thanks Jay and Carolina, your contents are very much appreciated.
Best snacks must try in my opinion, 1. Klepon : glutinous rice + pandan with palm sugar inside and sprikle of grated coconut. Dont bite, let the palm sugar pop out. 2. Kue cincin : ring cake flour with palm sugar its good 3. Pukis 4. Surabi or Serabi Maybe can try tropical fruit
Indonesia has tons of desserts and snacks, tons I mean A LOT OF desserts and snacks, we have 38 provinces and each of it has its own specialty desserts and snacks. Lemper, kue lapis, wajik, risoles are very common so you can find that easily because some snacks are pretty hard to find. Anyway thank you for trying and enjoying our snacks, hope you love it.
The lemper is actually steamed. But you got the steamed and roasted one because it is "lemper bakar". "Bakar" means roasted. Traditionally, lemper is made by rounding the filling inside the sticky rice and make oval shape. But in modern times, they made it in square tray and cut it into square pieces to make it more easy. For kue lapis. This is my favorite snack from childhood. People usualy eat it in unique way, which they peel off each of every layers and eat it one by one. They come in several colors like green, pink, and chocolate. It is made from glutinous rice flour "Wajik" came after it shape which is trapezium. Made from sticky rice, brown sugar, coconut milk. In modern days people just make it as a square one If you wanted to find the actual traditional snacks (from recipe and shape), you can find it in street seller, but it is also difficult nowadays. I hope you enjoy our Foods here ❤
We also love going to the traditional markets and have some freshly made kue/snacks/meals (like Gado Gado 😬). It always makes our mornings better 🙏 Thanks for sharing!
I'm actually watched your videos because Carolina. She's so pretty and her laughter is so cute. BTW I'm living in Malang, I hope I can take a picture with her 😊
Thank you for visiting Indonesia, explore tourist attractions in Indonesia and also enjoy the culinary delights, especially traditional food native to the area. Have a nice trip.👍❤️🇮🇩
I strongly believe the first snack you tried is not risoles, but sosis solo. The part where staff stared when you went to any store is so relatable. Haha, yet I can assure you they didn't mean negativity by doing so. As for plastic usage, I couldn't agree with you more. But I also believe we will eventually reduce plastic usage. Stay healthy and enjoy your stay!
@@hendradermawan7884 sebelahan itu sosis solo sama risoles ayam, tapi yang diambil yg sosis solo bukan risoles ayam. di etalase sosis solo di ujung posisinya, risoles ayam di sebelahnya.

The traditional dessert that begins with the letter "W" is known as wajik. We have that in Malaysia too.Old folks like it very much. The young ones may not even know it these days. Its still popular in Negeri Sembilan.
Wajik is n traditional snack originates from ancient Java. The earliest mention of wajik is in a Majapahit scripture named Nawa Ruci scripture written in Javanese language by Mpu Siwamurti in 1500 - 1619 AD. Wajik has occupied important roles in Javanese tradition, for example, the Numplak Wajik ceremony held by Keraton Yogyakarta as part of Grebeg Muludan during the Sekaten festival. Wajik is interpreted as "wani tumindak bêcik" meaning the obligation to be brave in doing good and striving for goodness. Based on its ingredients wajik also have this philosophy: Sticky rice symbolizes close fraternal relations and friendship. The use of coconut milk, which in Javanese is called santên (sagêda paring pangapuntên), symbolizes the hope that we will become forgiving individuals. And Javanese sugar which symbolizes the hope that friendship and relationships will always be "sweet" and harmonious. Until this day you will find wajik as a part of snack or snack hampers in traditional Javanese celebrations such as wedding, pregnancy, birth of children, housewarming, etc.

Guys, when u eat cakes in Indonesia, you must differentiate a dry cake (kue kering) or wet cake (kue basah) you want to eat ?. What you guys have been eating mostly were kue basah, and these particular kind of cakes are actually the traditional one, and we have tons of varieties of these things. Mostly they are flavourable, sweet, and enjoy to eat. Select some of your favourites one and just remember the names. 👍😀
That wild card is called Wajik... it made of sticky rice, palm sugar, grated coconut and ginger. Sometime people like to add fried sliced shallot (just a bit).
Their breads are delicious too. I personally enjoy eating roti pisang coklet (bread stuffed with banana and chocolate) and roti kelapa (bread stuffed with coconut).

No worries on the quality of the video. You did a great job of covering up the difficulties. I enjoyed seeing all of the different Indonesian snacks. The workers in the shop seemed a little awkward on camera but the quality of the video was fine.
The best way to eat kue Pepe ( that's the name of this kue) is to eat it layer by layer. I am still doing it till now. HB offers one of the best kue Pepes ❤❤

Russeolus, Rissole, Roinsolles it's a France stuff and I think it was brought by Dutch at that time to Indonesia since it was quite famous dish at that time on the region (Europe). I'm drooling watch you eating lemper ayam 🤤
