An aunt left me her collection of records by The Platters when she passed some decades ago. The music on them is quite luxurious. It's great to see them backed by an actual band. The Platters were also rock and roll in 1959. They were a loose fit with what was called doo-wop after the sorts of vocalizations featured in the songs. The songs in that style include several early classics, including The Chantels "Maybe", The Marcels "Blue Moon", Dion & The Belmonts "I Wonder Why", and Little Anthony "Tears On My Pillow". Compare and contrast with Nat King Cole "Autumn Leaves" and Dinah Washington "What A Difference A Day Makes". Quite luxurious too, but quite different from the others.

PLATTERS ... we used to call the flat records 'platters' ... get it?? BTW, they sold more platters than any other original R&B groups I believe.
