Well, my pinned comment on episode 3 keeps disappearing, so we’ll see if RU-vid allows this one to stick around! Anyway, that cliffhanger, right?! Vi is BACK, BABY! If you’re dying to see the next episode and beyond, head over to my Patreon, where you’ll find extended cuts of ALL 9 EPISODES available at the $10 tier! Otherwise, check back in next Thursday for episode 5, and remember to let me know who your favorite character is now that they’re all of simping age 😏 Remember, no spoilers!
"Why did she just explode that building?" To distract, move away and incapacitate the guard force in front of whatever they were guarding, because anything that well guarded seems a good bet to yoink for yourself, I think.
An interesting (for a writer) trick that Arcane uses: everything is presented like a pair. Two cities, two main points of view on everything, most of the time the characters interact in pairs and its pairs exchange (Cait and Jayce, Cait and Vi, Jayce and Viktor, Jinx and Silco, Silco and Sevika...), to highlight contrasts.
Fun fact about the council: in previous episodes, we see Mel Medarda (the gourgeous black woman, also called by some people "the walking perfection") buy a gift to that councilor with feeble arms, a puzzle, and the vendor said that is too easy, "is only a children's toy". In that episode, YEARS was passed, and we see that the dude still is incapable to solve it 😂 That show us a lot about the councilors: most of them are not specially capable, only have the right House names. The only people that have qualities and a mind is Heimerdinger (he is the founder of the city), Mel Medarda, miss Karaman (Caitlyn's mother) and now Jayce Tallis (the "Tony Stark" guy, "the golden boy"). Everyone else is their to protect his Houses profits and prosperity, the "status quo".
I did notice that little detail, it made it into the extended cut of the show but unfortunately not the RU-vid cut because copyright on episode 2 was a pain in my ass, lol! But I love how that really shows how unqualified these people really are to be leading anything, much less an entire city.
I kinda like how when my gal friends see Jinx for the first time, they all think she's "cute", while my guy friends are all like "oh f**k, stay away from that". Any guy over 25 sees virtually all of Jinx's behaviors as red flags, even if she's cool to see as a character.
I only appreciated Jayce after multiple viewings. He well and truly is doing what he thinks will help people. The problem is that the world is more chaotic than he can possibly control.
It was never explained why Vander fought Silco in their flashback. But popular theory is that up to that moment Silco was the peaceful guy and was against fight, while Vander was pushing for it, and that was the disagreement between them. The moment of being drown and mutilated changed Silco and made him into monster of Vander's creation.
Oooh, that's super interesting and would make a lot of sense. It'd be cool if we got more info on that in S2! (I'll admit, I just want Vander and Silco's voice actors to come back, lol)
Jinx and Silco have a father-daughter relationship, it just looks weird deliberately because of them both being younger siblings who were betrayed and abandoned by their older siblings which stunted them somewhat, especially Jinx moreso. Plus, they both suffer from PTSD and paranoia about being betrayed and abandoned again. Also keep in mind Powder/Jinx lost her birth parents so young and losing her adoptive father and siblings and being partially responsible added more trauma and guilt on top of that so she never learned healthy boundaries and Silco being a criminal, drug dealer and revolutionary enables her clinginess to keep her bought into the cause.
In case it hasn't already been brought to your attention, or you otherwise found out, the song that Jinx is listening to right after stealing the gemstone is called "Get Jinxed". It is the song that was written for the game characters initial release in 2013. There is a video for it that was animated by Fortiche, same studio that did Arcane. It was also Riot's first music video. Recommend checking it out if you haven't seen it.
I think Silco very clearly see's Jinx as something like a daughter; but Jinx is too messed up to really know what kind of relationship she has - or wants to have - with Silco. He is her emotional support, and perhaps the only person she trusts, but exactly what he is to her, doesn't seem to be something she even cares to think about.
2:10 Hahaha. I've seen before excitement towards a time skip but never before with the intention to legally devour Vi with the eyes xDD. You'll get there though and she's gorgeous and the coolest. I assume you most likely got there already actually.
I believe Mel is the most misunderstood character on this show. Honestly took me a few rewatches to really understand what her goals were. Favorite character... Probably Viktor or Silco. Silco's character continues to get better and better. As for the relationship between Jinx and Silco. It is purposely uncomfortable but it is just a father/daughter relationship. One of the many ailments Powder suffers from is childhood regression so she still has mannerisms of a child. Sitting on her dads lap, having dolls, unable to properly express her feelings. You will also notice she has given Silco little gifts on his desk that she drew on in a childlike manner. There are a lot of examples of her childlike state of mind in the show but they are not thrown in your face obvious. You have to look for them. Like the carousel in her room.
You know, I knew Jinx suffered from some kind of mental illness but I never thought of it as childlike regression. That actually adds a super interesting layer to her character! And I agree, Silco is an amazing character, super nuanced past what I expected of him!
@@LeightonReacts I'm not sure how far you are into the series, but his character really just keeps getting more interesting. I hope you see why he is one of my all time favorite villains.
Of the explosion/fire? It was a distraction. She had to get the enforcers guarding the way in to that building away so that she could get in to steel the hextech gem.
First of all: "they're older! They're older!" ? The city has built a Hextech SKYSCRAPER, how long do you think it takes? :D Secondly: SO you're among those who reaaaally thought they could kill off Violet, like that? :D
Lol, okay, in retrospect the skyscraper probably should've been my first clue, you're right 😂 And that's why I was so confused, because I DIDN'T think they would kill her off! My brain was riding the struggle bus trying to figure out what was going on, lolol
16:20 In the past Jayce didn't let go of his work because he visions it would save people like he and his mom was saved, now he is letting go of his work for people's safety. IMO anyway
Heimerdinger (the little guy you don't like) can be more interesting that looks. These details come from the games lore, not Arcane, but help us to understand some things: He is a "yordle" a kind of faerie creature. There is a lot of them on this world and all are a little different: they seems to imitate human roles, but with exactly one mankind inspired focus, not more. They lack of human complexity. Among famous yordles we have Poppy (not showed in Arcane) a girl the is weirdly strong for her size and dedicate her life to find a true hero. There is a megalomaniac mastermind yordle, an adventure one and so on... Heimerdinger chose to be a scientist, someone that use his immortality to guide people to live better. The problem is that like all of his kind, he is a little naive and not so much connected with anything...
@@LeightonReacts Nice. I had a couple of buddies who went there, and we all moved to L.A. when they graduated. One was a success, one was a failure, and now I'm a scientist.
Little sugestion and this is just my personal opinion, I think the reactions could be better without the parts were the scenes from the show are occupying the entire screen, like here 18:02. I'm not saying these parts are not good, I'm just saying that since is a reaction it feels kinda weird when you aren't there, sometimes you do it in a very dynamic way, like there is a short scene and then you quickly appear making a comment about it and that's good, but other times it's just us watching scenes from the show. I think keeping all the parts you want to show in a small window and you taking up most of the screen feels more fluid. Like I said it's just my personal opinion, but in any case I'm really enjoying your reactions and I can't wait for the next one.
I totally get what you're saying, but I absolutely HATE my face when I'm just watching the show without commentary 😂 I look so dumb, lolol! But I might experiment more in the future, so thanks for the suggestion!
I get that you were impatient for the story to really get going with them being older etc., but without the previous three episodes setting up the following six, they wouldn't have the impact that they do.
I definitely agree, in hindsight! The structure of this show is genius, but not one I'd ever seen before, so I didn't know what to expect. Now I'm like, every show should be structured like Arcane! lol
Sad to hear u dont like/care about "Jayce" and what he's doing and the politics and whatnot ... cause thats more than half the show .. not to mention EVERYTHING is connected and being influenced by everything else. See ya in ep.5
I've watched this episode ... a lot. And only now I've noticed that, when Caitlyn travels to Stillwater Hold, the coloring of the lights at the prison tells you *exactly* who she's going to meet. Thoughts (no spoilers): * The reason no one gave Powder a gun (besides her young age) is because the average Trench Dweller is rock-bottom poor. She has one now because she has access to Silco's resources. * They do a great job at showing how unhealthy Jinx's relationship with Silco is without tipping over into it being completely creepy, and I'm thankful for that. * Jinx's lair and the memorabilia she's collected are worth a look. It's heartbreaking. * There is no shame in simping over Vi. None at all.
I think another potential explanation for why they didn't give Powder a gun earlier is that firearms might be heavily regulated in Piltover/Zaun. Like, Piltover isn't in the USA where anyone can get a gun. Other than Jinx, the only other people who have guns are enforcers.
Subtitles might help commit the names to memory, but the "golden boy" is Jayce Talus, Furby gremlin is Professor Heimerdinger, he's a Yordle, they are sort of like fearie, more or less immortal as you pointed out, come in various visuals, but typically very small like him. Silco is the guy with the eye, his name wasn't said to episode 3 so easy to miss initially
I'm not able to watch shows with subtitles because I get distracted reading and won't watch the action happening on screen, lolol, BUT for future reactions after Arcane I've made more of an effort to learn the character's names right away and write them down for myself to remember (I refuse to have another Vander situation, lol!)
Silco and Jinx have a father-daughter relationship, but some of the scenes between them were purposefully made to make the viewer feel uncomfortable. I think is just a way to remind you how fucked up their relationship is.
