This show. I think at the beginning we all start just kind of laughing at the YA adult fiction tropes and trying to predict where things are going. And then by this episode, viewers - myself included - start going into full literary-art critic / character psychologist mode because the show is just that layered and well-crafted.

Victor's is my favorite arc. As someone who is disabled and has chronic pain, I feel a strong connection to him. When all the reactors see him take the shimmer in this episode and go "Oh no!", I'm always cheering him on like "Yes, you're doing the right thing!". Lol.
Right? It's very funny to me. I don't think I've not been in pain in maybe five, six years? Every time I see Victor working on himself I absolutely get it. It's always interesting when people disagree with how someone treats their own body on principle. If they're of sound mind then really it's up to them. Victor's tragedy is that, in trying to help him, someone close to him is destroyed by what he is working on.
@@spencerrizkallah7171 Victor's greatest shortcoming is recklessness, which is understandable as someone who's living on borrowed time. I'm pretty sure most people (myself included) who were wary of his experiments were expecting the worst outcome, which turned out to be an unexpected, but equally tragic, one.
Jinx is my favorite character by far, I have not ever seen someone write a character suffering from psychosis and schizophrenic episodes so well, without making her insanity feel like a quirky trait at all
Especially compared to her original League of Legends counterpart whose tragic past and birthname of Powder were only recently revealed in "Legends of Runeterra" though there were hints from the beginning. "I have the best intentions!" "You think I`m crazy? You should see my sister."(Which a former Riot employee nicknamed Ghostcrawler confirmed she was referring to Vi which fans speculated to be the case for years but Riot staff long denied.) Plus the only characters she gives good advice to are the Zaunite Urchins "Give `em puppydog eyes, trust me!" Fiddlesticks:(A champion who`s a demon-possessed scarecrow who feeds on fear and shows other champions their worst traumas)"Jinx!All your fault, all your fault!" Also, the champion Warwick who may or may not be Vander turned into a Shimmer-crazed werewolf experiment by Singed whose last memory as a human was of hearing a little girl screaming(Also, he used to be a Zaunite gangster and now he kills other Zaunite gangsters out of remorse for his past sins, who does that remind us of?) and crying in the rain(Hmm, who might that have been?)and one of his voicelines with Jinx is "You were there. Let me forget."
"how did he end up as head of the council" He didn't. As far as we know the council has no head since Heimerdinger's retirement. What Mel said was that Jayce is the de facto head of the council. Basically the other councillors kind of have to follow him because he's holding them by their purse considering all the deals he made with them in Episode 5. As long as he doesn't threaten their interests of course. But he's not the official head or anything.
It looked like one of the checkpoint enforcers Jinx shot. He survived the blast and was still moving, which is extremely rude. Jinx spent a lot of time painting those.
To be honest Viktor is not hurting anyone but himself, he's dying and he has nothing to lose. I don't blame him at all since I'd probably do the same. Also, shimmer doesn't automatically turn people into monsters, Silco has been using it to help with his eye for a very long time and Cait gave it to Vi to cure her wound. If you use shimmer right it can be very helpful.
@@biadaminelli2125 it kinda was. He continued after noticing he was out of shimmer, which is what he needed to survive. Now Sky is what he needed to sacrifice i stead of him.
Also, Shimmer saved Powder/Jinx`s life and gave her superhuman strength, speed,stamina,endurance,retarded aging and enhanced intelligence(Although she doesn`t always show it and by the standards of mainstream society puts it to the wrong uses like guns,explosives and so on)and worsened her PTSD, schizophrenia, paranoia and BPD.
19:50 Actually if you pay attention they include all the titles in the episodes. Mostly in a dialogue, sometimes in a song and just in episode 6 through a visual display.

When you realize that the nerd is also a blacksmith, the most hyped class of character in pop culture... 😂 The thing in that show is that I can't help myself, I love everybody. I love even the beard skinny arms councilor, because how much amazingly dumb he seems to be everytime he appears...
A detail many miss. When Jinx opens fire on Vi and Caitlyn on the bridge, right before Ekko shows up to fight Jinx, Vi and Caitlyn's reactions are great insights into their personality. Vi tries to push Caitlyn away - like she's always done. Caitlyn tries to shield Vi from the firing, wiling to sacrifice herself for Vi.
Silco is my favorite arc, for reasons I cannot disclose until the final chapter. What I can say is that I love how they've presented him up to this point, and how his every action has multiple interpretations depending on the person: is he using Jinx? Does he unconditionally love her? A mix of both?? His persona is fascinating, and I really enjoy villains that let their Evil Virtues shine.
What's kinda funny is that there actually is a champion named Sylas in League of Legends. He is a powerful renegade mage from Demacia whose powers are heavily dampened by the massive petricite chains he swings around as weapons.
Lol I have noticed you don't like the creature races too much, ie Heimerdinger and Ekkos Vastayan friend. I know a bit of the lore, he's a bat/ human hybrid, there are alot of different Vastaya types who have different kinds of animal features. Runeterra is filled with lots of different creatures, races, spirits, gods, etc. Piltover/Zaun is probably the most grounded area in terms of population, if the show expands location-wise, you're gonna see alot more crazy stuff 😀
@@LeightonReacts Check out Sett (technically only a half) or Xhaya and Rakan if you want to see a lot cooler Vastayans. Xhayah and Rakan have their own champion teaser video from when they were released in game. Vastayans range a lot on how much of their animal side is present, like you have Ahri who is pretty much just a girl with fox ears and tails, and then you have Nami, a literal mermaid, but chances are in this world, if it is human sized and appears to have some animal traits, Vastayan. Heimerdinger is a Yordle though, Yordles are best thought of as a strange type of Fey, they come from Bandle City, nobody knows what they truly look like as they have a glamour effect, they are possibly immortal, and they can travel through portals all through the world. League has many other races such as the Darkin, Iceborn, and even demons, I do hope we get to see more of these in season 2 honestly.
I often wonder where Ekko was the entire time Powder was left alone to have her tantrum. You'd think the two youngest kids would have stayed together. Makes for a less entertaining story but I feel like that would have been the smart choice.
Watch ENEMY by Imagine Dragons. RU-vid it. KNOW: That why Jinx calls Ekko "The Boy Savior" is multi-fold in its reasons. One reason is that Ekko tried repeatedly to save Jinx from Silco. Another is that Ekko created that safe community to protect the Lanes from Silco. There are more reasons. League of Legends in-game character interactions, Ekko to Jinx: "I had a crush on you until you started talking to your guns."
What Vi and the others don't understand about Jinx is that she can't change, even if she wanted to. By that I mean she is not "crazy" because she chose to be mentally ill. Her hallucinations and her tendency to lash out and loose control over herself are pretty much symptoms of schizophrenia and chronic PTSD, those are both conditions that affect the human brain permanently and can not be cured. One of the reasons why she works for Silco is because he treads her with respect despite her issues, while everyone else sees her either as a problem or a complete lunatic. It's no wonder the poor girl tried to kill herself after Vi literally turned her back on her and after her former childhood friend tried to beat her to death with his bare fists.
Silco is not to be applauded, it's not that he treats her with respect despite her issues, but that he ignores them completely and that is clearly not healthy or helpful to Jinx in any way. If anything that way Silco has raised her and the way he has treated her has made her more psychothic. Let's not make Jinx a poor victim or try to make Ekko or Vi into the bad guys. Ekko has his right in seeing her the way he does, she has literally killed tons of his friends. And to him she is a problem, this is a reminded that she has helped Silco flood the undercity with Shimmer and made his home and inhabitable place to the point where he had to leave and make his own community. And Vi walks away from her at the bridge after Jinx almost kills her and Caitlyn, I don't know what you expected her to do.
To be fair, up until now Vi has only seen Jinx for a total of 3 minutes (at the end of ep 6), and half of that they weren't talking because they were busy fighting the firelights. There is only so much you can understand about someone and how much they can or can't change in 1.5 minutes.
Favourite Character That Is Not Jinx - Caitlyn. I'd like to see a detective show with her and Vi, something like "The Kiramman Files". Favourite character development - Mel Medarda. Going from a scheming politician you don't put your trust on to a rightfully concerned leader. (Although her character actually did not change much, it is the view on her that becomes subverted.)
Just to explain, the doctor guy with vikktor was the guy working with Silco in the beginning of the show. He was developing shimmer (that’s why he has it). He tests it out on a rat that winds up killing a cat if you recall
Having subtitles on might help remember and notice the names. Also some of your viewers might not be completely fluent in English. Also whenever you speak over the show might help you miss less stuff. Just some food for thought ^^
So many people get Silco's name wrong hahaha, I feel worse for how many reactors forget "uuuh what's his name, the kid with the goggles that died" aka Claggor.
About politics - EVERY plotline in this show is STEEPED in politics, and inseparable from politics. Silco, Sevika and to some extent Jinx are the focal point of an armed insurrection against a colonising power. Vi and Jinx's personal plotline is a non-story without the separate but interconnected political realities that have formed their lives. Caitlyn is for all intents and purposes a princess, a scion of a vastly influential noble house, and her every action thereby becomes a political act. Personally, what frustrates me with Jayce and Heimerdinger both is that they are the least capable politicians present. Heimerdinger because he is an old, reactionary idiot with no real empathy for those he governs, and Jayce because he is good of intentions and dumb of ass.
As much as I like the show, I came here for the reactions, and at this point it at least feels like there’s more of the show playing on its own than your reaction to it. I was really enjoying these at first but am increasingly deterred from even finishing at this rate. Food for thought for future viewer retention, I suppose.
About shimmer... I don't think it's fair to say it makes them FEEL powerful. It makes them ACTUALLY powerful, for a while. It takes a toll, certainly, but when you're living in a polluted, irradiated cancer ward, confined there by a colonising power, and starvation lurks at the end of any day in which your luck is bad, taking something that lets you be in control of your destiny for a tiny moment rapidly becomes a reasoned response. If it was a mere drug that let the while away the time in a euphoric and hallucinating state, that's one thing, but shimmer is very much NOT that. It has powerful healing properties, makes the user a lot stronger and more durable... I'm fairly certain crack doesn't do any of that. As to Silco sacrificing the people - welcome to the glorious world of rebellion/revolution. That's how you rebel. When the only coin you have to spend is the lives of your countrymen, that's when fighting too change that state of affairs is of PARAMOUNT importance. Keep in mind, Vander did the same thing... the problem was that he essentially failed and became a cowed rebel. Every revolutionary or rebel faces this choice... even Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr. faced exactly this dilemma, and they marched into it.
Yah Jinx just wants Vi to herself due to her attachment issues and trauma. Vi wants her sister back, but will not just sacrifice Cait for it who she not just has feelings for, but recognizes as a good person. I also do not think Vi grasps Powders new persona and issues yet. She was deff heartbroken her sister just tried to merc her though with Vi's character she will continue to take blame (Jinx) and responsibility (Cait) for everyone around.
Someone should write an alternate reality fanfic where Powder gets into the academy and works with vic and jayce xD love the analysis and your thoughts on jinx
I got a suggestion for your time to spend it with another interesting group of characters from the Umbrella Academy which it's 2 season and I just checked out the 3rd season trailer that will be out in June just around the corner but it will be fun like the 2 season that's out already on Netflix.
For me, it's hard to pick a favorite character arc in a show filled with so many great characters. Some are clearly better than others IMO but with so many that are so close, I'd have to put them into tiers and go from there. Top tier: Jinx, Vi, Silco and Cait. Their arcs have everything I want in a character driven show and they all bring something different to the table (no pun intended; you'll see what I mean later on). Second tier: Vander, Sevika, Ekko, Jayce, Viktor and Mel. Bottom tier: Heimerdinger, Marcus and every council member. Vander, Sevika and Ekko would be top tier for me if they had more screen time; of that I'm sure of. Mel, Viktor and Jayce have good character arcs, they just suffer for being in the same show as Vi, Jinx, Cait and Silco...LOL! Heimerdinger, Marcus and the council members are bottom tier if only because they represent a trope I don't find all that interesting.
I think that Viktor's arc is the most fascinating to me. The way he starts as such a good person with strong morals and then gives it up slowly to survive. And now, who knows what's coming for him?
Most of that time went into getting the team together. I'm confident when we get the 2nd season next year or so, it will still meet this standard. It should be expected as long as there is no outside interference, as Netflix is only distributor, not producer.
