Trivia note: At the end of Finding Nemo, there was a message that said "In Memory Of Glenn McQueen," whom was a Pixar staff member that had been around since the beginning. Well, Cars 1 came out right after Finding Nemo, so they named the protagonist Lightning McQueen in honor of Glenn.
@@JiReyAnimation Yes, the release sequence was Finding Nemo, Incredibles and then Cars but while Finding Nemo was being concluded to then reach the cinemas, Cars was under the initial stages of production. Research, writing etc
Even more attention to detail, in the last lap when McQueen passes king, you can see king smiling as he recognizes the rookie is next to rule the piston cup
Don, to answer some of your questions, the reason the cars swerve at the start of the race is to help the tires heat up and gain traction. And the reason they change tires throughout the race is because the tires get worn out quickly due the extreme speed and also heat buildup from friction.
Route 66 is a long ass route that goes through from Chicago, Illinois, through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona before terminating in Santa Monica in Los Angeles County, California
You do know that half of these people who do these movie reaction act like they haven’t watch good films so they can react and get good views 😂 it’s so obvious with people like sebscreen never watched Toy Story and all the basic films 😮

@@thomasblack33and you can expand that to other languages too. In Brazilian Portuguese, Emerson Fittipaldi dubbed the character of Lewis Hamilton in Cars 2 and Rubens Barrichello voiced Cal Weathers.
This movie was my childhood! I had everything! Lightning McQueen toys, lightning McQueen cups and plates, a cars cake for my bday and a McQueen car seat! I was obsessed lol 😅
5:08 Cars do that to warm up the tires before racing; it helps with traction The reason Doc Hudson wanted to get rid of Lightning McQueen, is because of Doc’s backstory; “After the Hudson Hornet crashed out in 1954, he was kicked out of racing then he had a fresh start to becoming a Doctor of Radiator Springs after fixing a broken down car, then when he saw Lightning McQueen in 2006, it flashed him back into Racing when he got kicked out, so he was trying to get rid of him. He then regretted what he did and became McQueen’s pit crew and mentor before he passed away in 2009
I loved rewatching this movie when I was young. I like how instead of Lightning winning he sacrifices the trophy to help his friend❤. 50:50 if you look at the bottom middle of the screen you can see two cars drooling on the cars below.
Some information about the races: - It is called 'NASCAR', not F1. NASCAR is an American race series that (almost) only race on oval tracks (like the ones you see in the film) - "Why are you swerving on the track?" You are only allowed to do that under a 'yellow flag' or 'safety car'. It is used to warm up the tires. Warmer tires = More grip However, race tires wear off quickly, so you need to change tires in Pitstops
So, being a massive racing fan I can explain 4 things that were asked about in this video: 1: The name of the series The series Cars is based off is, of course, not F1, but instead NASCAR. 2: Why do they do so many laps? NASCAR really loves putting high miles for the races (which is the number next to the race name, example: the Daytona 500 is 500 Miles in distance total), and since the tracks are usually extremely short, it causes there to be an extreme amount of laps. 3: Why do the cars swerve side to side? This is a common thing seen in warm up laps in racing, and swerving is used to warm up tires before going back races. 4: What is a crew chief A crew chief is like the coach for racing, in NASCAR the crew chief makes the main decisions on how hard to race, and the pitting strategy, which makes them the 2nd most important thing to the driver in racing. (Edit:) 5. Isn’t what Chick Hicks does illegal in real racing? Yes, Chick is what we call a dirty driver, and even in, what people see as the wild series, NASCAR, intentional crashes that result in big crashes are extremely illegal, and it’s very frowned upon to crash a championship contender, like Chick did with the King.
Those things on the sheriff's side near his wheels are called "curb feelers" and they were used on a lot of older cars around the 50's and I think 60's as well (Don't quote me on that). They alerted drivers if they got close to the curb. It's to prevent you from driving up onto it
Bro this movie was the sole reason I got into Need for Speed- And why I love country- 🎵 Life is a highwayyyyyy and I’m gonna ride it all night loonng 🎵
A lot OF things: This is NASCAR not F1 You change tires not because they will explode, but because the tire wear will affect your handling performance Arjun Maine was in F2 when he was sabotaged, he was sabotaged because he was doing too well and his teammate wanted the credit for himself.
5:13 the cars have to be going at speeds of nearly 200 miles an hour but during the caution their only allowed 70. So the swerving is to warm up the tires enough to get good traction on the restart.
McQueen didn't fix the town's lights. The townsfolk were so impressed with his work on the road that they began sprucing up their shops, according to the audiobook. The traffic light was blinking yellow because there wasn't much traffic on the road but activated because of the tractors. The rocks on the track are most likely "marbles" - peelings from the cars' tyres.
One thing to keep in mind is that for each of the Cars movies, the year when the came out is the year in the universe as well, just like the MCU Also one thing i've always questioned about the Cars universe, does a car crash count as a murder and/or suicide
Cars is my absolute favorite movie quick thing about me. I’ve been in the hospital most of my life and still going from time to time. This was the first movie I ever watched when I was younger during my hospital stays
Piston Cup is a knock off name of NASCAR in the old days called Winston Cup. The blue car I guess would have been famous driver Richard Petty. Want rocks on track it was as we call it marbles which is rubber that comes off tired during race and gathered outside the groove.
1:43 Tiny correction, Dreamworks isn't with Disney. If anything, they're rivals. The concept of Dreamworks' Shrek was a more-or-less direct callout over how Disney does things.
@@Morphop3exactly. And he brought the idea of Bugs Life to DreamWorks, or what he had of it when he left. That's why there are both A Bug's Life (Pixar) and Antz (DreamWorks)

At the time 11:03 in the video he says he has a theory so he should have finished that like "I have a theory, a film theory" to give us like sone mat pat vibes.
I get that it's sad for the cars living in Radiator Springs that they're no longer relevant, but it's really hard to come up with a solution that doesn't end with, "sometimes that's just how life goes." Small towns without purpose get bypassed, factory workers are replaced with machines, paper companies become obsolete as more people go paperless. Sad, but it's how it goes. I don't see hanging onto a dying business in an empty town as any different from starting a horse grooming/farrier business in a major metropolitan area. Some things are useful in certain times and certain areas, some things are not.
it hurts how much he doesn’t know at the start of the movie😭 i knew why they needed to change tires and swerve around and everything when i was 7 years old
Don, please do some research on racing. This movie is based on Nascar not F1. Tires are like shoes, compare it walking on grass to concrete. McQueen barely escaped Frank because he's on bumpy dirt and not smooth pavement. What doc did on the track is called drifting, turn right to go left is how you drift. The rocks on the track is called marbles. They are rubber balls from the tires of the race car wearing down which is why they have to change tires. A lap around most tracks is equal to a mile so after so many laps you have to change tires or they're going to blow.
Dreamworks is a rival company to Disney but Jeffery Katzenberg used to be the head of Disney Animation Studios. He left Disney after CEO Michael Eisner refused him the position of COO after Frank Wells' death in 1994, as he thought Katzenberg was being arrogant and somewhat power hungry. In retaliation he founded Dreamworks with Steven Spielberg and David Giffin and managed to beat both Disney and Pixar with Shrek (beating them for the academy award of 2002 for Best Animated Picture).
I love how Disney and Pixar change some things depending on the region the movie is being viewed in. In Zootopia, the US, Canada, and France I believe have a Moose, China had a Panda, Japan had a Tanuki, Australia had a Koala, and Brazil had a Jaguar as the second New Anchor with the Snow Leopard. The voice actor for Harv in this movie was also changed in this one from the US and UK. Inside Out also had two (three offered) regional changes in it, one with Riley eating in a high chair, Japan viewers saw green peppers instead of broccoli, we see a game of football (soccer for US) instead of the normal hockey (this was only offered to some countries as some stuck with hockey), the third happened when Bing Bong reads a sign to Joy and Sadness that spelled Danger saying it was a shortcut, they not only translated it but reanimated Bing Bong to point to the letters from right to left to accommodate some languages instead of left to right.
So, I watch a lot of nascar have for years. And allow me to shed some light on this movie (even if you don’t see this) firstly; NASCAR does have a cup series it’s a trophy cup not called piston just cup. Secondly; crew chiefs are pretty vital for the race. They make decisions on and off the track and are over the pit crew but the driver makes his own decisions out in the field. And they are loyal to the team so for them to be fired has to be a good reason. Like coaches in nfl or any other sport. Thirdly; tires so get worn and torn so that can create debris on the road and the hotter they get the worst the tire gets. So they change them to newer fresh tires. When mater was in the field outrunning McQueen it’s because mater has off-road tires not on road like McQueen stuck with slick racing tires. It’s true they make new generation cars every few years but I doubt the cars have feelings in our world😂
Knowing a lot about NASCAR you should also explain the contact between vehicles because I haven't seen anyone else who has. I know a little bit and that a certain amount of contact is allowed, usually referred to as "rubbing" but I'm sure the Chick Hicks level of interference would be sanctioned.
@@ronweber1402 for sure drivers get penalties and then drivers could choose to appeal that penalty. And then there’s a chance of retaliation from the opposing driver. But I wasn’t gonna dive deep into that topic of racing
Some fun facts, 1. The King is voiced by famous NASCAR driver Richard Petty who was nicknamed the King due to his 7 championships. He also drove a car similar to the one in the movie 2. The red car the King refers to as Junior is voiced by nascar hall of famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. 3. The opening track is based off the real life track Bristol Motor Speedway 4. Doc Hudson is based off a real 1950s car called the Hornet made by the now defunct American car company Hudson 5. The announcer Darrell Cartrip is based off former 3 time Champion Nascar driver and nascar commentator Darrell Waltrip. 6. The other announcer Bob Cutlass is based off real life sports commentator Bob Costas
Most NASCAR(the sport this movie is referencing) races are anywhere between 200 miles to 500 miles in length with only one race at 600 miles. Tracks vary from 0.526miles to 2.66 miles so the amount of laps could be from 90 up to 500 laps. The biggest auto racing tracks in terms of seating capacity are Indianapolis(250k), Daytona (160k), and Bristol(150k).
The fact that me as an American never got to hear Jeremy Clarkson as the VA for Harv should be a war crime. He should have been the default voice actor for all English speaking countries
As a Brazilian who naturally didn't even grew up watching Cars on the English language, I'm also highly excited to see that he went through the UK one, never got to find it anywhere (naturally) even though I have been aware for years about Clarkson's role in Cars as I'm both a Pixar and 2000s Top Gear fan.
Route 66 was a real highway in the US, it was bypassed mainly by I-40(Interstate 40) which goes from North Carolina to California(Wilmington to LA), so yeh the story is largely true. Like places like Amboy, California, one of the most infamous places back then now has 0 population, and back in 2010 was reported to have 4, it used to be a bustling town though with a lot of travellers when Route 66 was still active.
Wrecking people is allowed, but not if it’s multiple in one race. The rocks on the track were called marbles, and their little bits of their tires. They have to change tires, because they wear down due to the amount of speed they reach, for hundreds of laps in a row. A crew chief is someone who talks to the driver on the radio to tell them about what’s happening on the track, where the drivers can’t see. The teams in nascar can be multiple drivers, and the pit crew.
Certain parts of the 2nd movie makes it a bit hard though. Why are there regular drinking glasses on the table? And how are they able to drink from them in that film?
To sum up why you change tires during a pit stop, while racing tires may not have traditional treads, changing tires during a pit stop is essential for maintaining performance, managing heat, adapting to track conditions, addressing damage, and executing race strategy effectively.
Nascar which is what the racing in this movie is based on and Formula 1 are 2 different things. Thats exactly what this movie is about is Lightning being Himbled and i love it such good lessons in this movie
This is NASCAR, which originated with the bootleggers back during Prohibition. Most every secondary character in this movie is voiced by a prominent racing figure, the character's name a play on their real name: Darrell Waltrip, Bob Costas, Kyle "King" Petty, Jeff Gordon, the list goes on and on. And they're weaving because the rubber in the tires is softer (and provides better traction) when it's hot, but it also has a tendency to wear away faster and break loose from the tires. In several scenes during the race, you can see these bits and pieces (called "marbles" because they act almost like literal marbles when they're loose) kick up.
So for the sensation of smooth tarmac, when I was a kid I rolled around on a kickscooter with really hard wheels and when I went from used tarmac/asphalt to very new parts of the road? That shit went from a bumpy ride across small pebbles and such pushed into the asphalt after years of cartires pushing them inthere to just floating across the smoothest surface... It felt so nice I would just run over it back and forth... Feel like thats what new asphalt feels to these cars :D Another comparison is also a beach with just sand, no rocks to step on vs a beach with rocks that feel like legos XD.
11:53 one of my favorite shots of the movie is this one because it perfectly shows the theme of slowing down. As the camera pans left, the shot reveals that just like Lightning, the whole world is so focused on getting to places faster, they cut a mountain in half when they could've easily built the road a few meters to the left.
32:50 everyday here in America we all wake up exactly at 6 am never earlier or later then we go outside to the American flag outside of hour house and salute it for 15 minutes exactly
Fun fact: the Director of this movie has confirmed that there were in fact humans in the Cars universe. But when cars became self driving and conscious.. the just cast the humans aside due to us being "dead weight". That explains all of the structures. edit: And the fact cars had doors and rearview mirrors.
24:04 McQueen: And now I'm a day behind. I'm never gonna get outta here! Townsend: Should have done it properly the first time. Me: Yeah, but keep in mind that McQueen isn't cocky or arrogant for nothing
I like the way they did the part where McQueen arrived to Radiator Springs as we get two perspectives, a thief "hotrodder" according to the sheriff to a confused and scared race car who doesn't know where he is and more.
The rocks on the track are actually rubber from the tires I’m pretty sure. Tracks do tear up the tires usually in f1 the racers do a cool down lap and drive over the rubber to pick them up. Idk if nascar is like that too but I’m pretty sure it’s rubber on the track
