The "folk music" at the end is traditional Irish music - Newfoundland's first influx of "Come from Aways" was about 35,000 Irish immigrants back in 1810-1820

If you aren't familiar, Newfoundland Celtic Rock is a great genre to listen to. Highly recommend having a listen to Great Big Sea sometime. I started listening to them when we lived in Detroit and could get CBC and TVO on the antenna. Fell in love with the style. Road Rage is one of the fantastic albums of theirs.

I've always loved musicals, and this is in my top 5 for sure. For my birthday this past year my brother took me to see Come From Away--it was the last month it was on Broadway. Half the original cast was there. I'd seen it on Apple TV already, and loved it. It was a powerful experience. I've never seen an audience so reactive to a performance. They were cheering when Nick and Diane kissed instead of kissing the fish. When Hannah tells Beulah that her son has died, the audience started crying, which caused the 2 actresses to start crying, and it took them both a second to compose themselves to continue the song. There were gasps that would ripple through the audience, cheering, laughter--there were moments where I forgot I was watching a performance and felt like I was there in the moment with them. And when it was over, I've never seen a standing ovation like that--everyone immediately leapt to their feet. It was the most incredible experience. This musical is amazing. I loved your reaction.

I first saw this show here in Toronto, just before they moved to Broadway for the premiere. So we had the entire original cast that was featured in this film. It was something that can’t be described. Moving beyond words. And being that most of us (if not all) in the audience were Canadian, it just made it very special. I think everyone cried multiple times during the show. But there was also laughter and joy.. and I couldn’t tell you how long we stood and cheered for them at the end of the show.. It went on for awhile. It was an incredible experience. I’m so proud of those people from that tiny town in Newfoundland. They showed true kindness, compassion and friendship in a very dark moment in time, when people needed it most.

The interesting part thing about the ten year reunion at the end is that’s where this musical comes from! The playwrights went to the event and interviewed people, and the stories they heard are what they used to write the script!

The Tom Brokaw 10th Anniversary documentary is real. It’s called Operation Yellow Ribbon and they speak to a lot of the real folk these characters are based on. It’s both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Even if you don’t react to it, it’s definitely worth a watch. So glad you enjoyed experiencing a little bit of Newfoundland. I must say the 25th anniversary had the best cast with my favorite interpretation of the characters: SPOILERS (like morally grey often gaslight-y Raoul or a Christine who wasn't just innocent and could stand up for herself when insulted, and a phantom that's not as problematically old as he often is)

Hello Salvo, idk if you'll see this because I'm a week late in commenting. But, for your next musical reaction, I wonder if you can do a Sondheim show. Honestly, I know people who might suggest more well-known shows (Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, Company) so I'll set them aside, even though I love the first two and haven't fully seen the last one. The shows I'd love to recommend are: - Sunday in the Park With George (Poignant and Sentimental) - Assassins (More political but not overtly, hard for me to comment cuz im not from the US) - Pacific Overtures (Cultural and Abstract) - A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Comedy and Adventure) Truthfully, I'd want for you to just up and watch all of them (though there are other fantasic Sondheim shows I haven't seen myself). Also, even with something like Assassins, I think it's just better to be very open because, as a lot of people know, Sondheim works some kind of magic that makes you connect with even the most absurd of plots/situations Also, I won't be watching the full reaction simply because I myself have not seen Come From Away but it is on my list of shows to watch. Hope you have a great day.

My vote is for the 2014 NY Philharmonic Concert version of Sweeney Todd. A concert version sounds boring but I promise it is so much more.

It is still touring. So much of the cast stayed the whole run of the show. 7 of the 12 cast members in the video are the original cast. I highly recommend Rent next the stage recording of the final show, not the movie.

Am I the only one who wants to see him watch parade? There's a concert version on youtube and it's really good. Other than that I'd like him to see phantom (25th anniversary) or Sweeney Todd

The folk music in that area of Canada is highly influenced by Celtic music.

How about some old-school? "West Side Story" or "Annie" and if you've never seen it, "The Wizard of Oz."

I would highly recommend the pro-shot of the Billy Elliot musical live from the West End in London. It’s an absolutely amazing show! It’s set against a fairly turbulent part of British history from the early 80s and is fairly accurate in its depiction.

And Wicked. The story before The Wizard of Oz. That would be another excellent one.

Phantom is good. Chess in concert has good music, but the story is blah, which is probably why they did a concert instead of a play.
