Here we are back into the world of Harry Potter
Badd medicine is back and it's Fantastic Beast reaction time! Back into the Harry Potter world and this one comes with some that hate it some that like it. It feels like you nobody was in the middle. We enjoyed this first installment and I mean what a cast, even Colin Ferrell was in this. We are curious to all your thoughts as well with this installment.
The year is 1926, and Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident, were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt's fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (or simply Fantastic Beasts) is the first prequel of a series of films based on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, one of the companion books to J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter series. The script of the first film was released in book form on the following day.

Yeah i saw the book at my local book store hoping it'll be a novel, immediately bought it. But i was wrong lol. I think i only read 1/3 of the book, since i got the edition without the illustration, i drew my own version of the creatures based on the description, only some that i find interesting at least.

The Oak is actually too adorable. These books are universally for every age. My late Aunt read them when she was in her 40s. I read them in my 20s/30s and tend to reread them from time to time in my 40s as well. Timeless.

Loved this movie. So a few things: For the most part, the people that didn’t like the movie are diehard fans of HP that know every little detail out there on the Wizarding World. The biggest gripe was that the timeline/ages are off with certain characters and tends to go against timelines in the books and official website. I personally don’t care. Grindelwald is briefly in Deathly Hallows pt 1. He’s who was laughing and who Voldemort kills when he’s looking for the elder wand in Harry’s vision. Grindelwald tells Voldemort that the want lies with “him” (Dumbledore). But he has a much greater story in the books. There are no novels of this story because Dumbledore’s backstory is mostly in the HP books. The only thing that exists is the “text book” that is “authored” by Newt that becomes part of the Hogwarts curriculum, that was all that was released by JK Rowling. It’s basically an encyclopedia of all the beasts in the magical world, pretty cool too. JK wrote the screenplay for these movies without having written source material. The outdated laws that the US has against wizards and no-maj’s is a reference to the fact that the UK had no laws against interracial relationships/marriages as opposed to the US (Although racial segregation was still acceptable there until 1965 as it was in the US). The point being, the US was consistently behind the times in that area both in the wizarding world and the no-maj world.

I'm a die-hard HP fan and I loved the prequels! I thoroughly enjoyed seeing an extension of the Potterverse with new characters, including a very lovable Muggle! (Jacob), that could double as a period/fantasy films. Nitpickers need to learn to sit back and enjoy the magic lol. Hope they don't ruin the completion of this fantastic franchise!

the reason newt was looking away most of the time was because eddie redmayne (the actor) played the character in a way to hint at newt having autism. for example, his case was his special item (why he doesn't ever want to let it go) and the magical beasts were his special interest. also leta lestrange isn't bellatrix's sister. bellatrix married into the lestrange family. also this movie takes place in 1926, while bellatrix wasn't even born until 1955-1960 (we dont know the exact date). you find more about leta in the next movie :) unless you read the books you dont know much about the lestranges, but basically they're a pureblood family, where bellatrix black (maiden name) married into to keep the pureblood-blood. she married rodolphus (we never see him in the movies sadly, but he is one of the four who took place in the torture of the longbottoms (the others being rabastan lestrange (his brother), barty church jr and bellatrix)) lestrange who is one of leta's relatives. hope that helps :)

Mehh people always look for autism in everything nowadays. I think Newt was just a shy, nice guy. He wasnt holding onto the case because of autism it's clearly because hes protecting endangered animals which he cares deeply for. They actually explain this IN the movie..

Pickett is a Bowtruckle. Those are stick insects that live in wand trees. Trees the wood of which are used to make wands. They can pick locks. The kleptomaniac platypus is a Niffler. They can detect precious metals. Good for miners. The twins put one in Umbridge's office and it wrecked the place. Tried to bite off her rings from her fingers. The furry vanishing sloth is a Demiguise. The demiguise fur is used to make invisibility cloaks. But they fade after time. Harry's cloak was a Hallow and impervious to spells. The fiery rhino is an Erumpment. The horns are traded by smugglers and a dangerous explosive. Luna's dad had one hung on his wall. Hermione spotted it. It exploded when the Death Eaters attacked.

@@artsysabs in the movie you can see it on the wall. In the book Hermione spots it and tells them it's a very dangerous tradable article. Xeno says it's the horn of a Crumple Horned Snorkack. When the Death Eaters attack, it explodes and brings down the house.

Hermione mentions the FAntastic Beasts book in the 2nd or 3rd movie. She mentions it I think when they had to research the werewolf versus the animegus. She took the book out of the library for a bit of light reading. HA

I've found what most people don't like about these movies is Newt, specifically what the movie does/focuses on to accommodate who he is as a person. Compared to Harry and his friends (even in later years) Newt is quite reserved and more soft spoken. He's always thinking about his beasts and what they feel (there's a line in the second film that really encapsules him) and thus tends not to be your typical, crime fighting, energetic male lead. He's also not really "suave" to counteract that either, You guys even noticed how he basically avoided direct eye contact most of the film (something I completely relate to). Honestly it all comes down to preference, but I'm sure speaking for many he's such a breath of fresh air as a male lead, and honestly it's quite sweet to see him around his animals and at the end with Tina

Fully agree with this. The Fantastic Beasts series isn't perfect. Far from it. But Newt alone will always bring me back to it because he is done so perfectly. The world needs more male leads that are allowed to be vulnerable and full of kindness. He portrays a form of soft masculinity that we just don't get to see a lot at all.

I also highly appreciated Newt’s portrayal as a soft masculinity hero bc so many times they don’t get to be one or are just the ‘too soft’ side kick who has to ‘toughen up’ to survive the plot. Sometimes they do get to be the last second hero, but they usually have to go through some changes first by evolving into the typical masculine alpha hero that is ready to do all the violence to save the day/hero/love interest. This will obviously only then earn him the attention of the love interest and the moral of the story seems to always be that men like him cannot be soft and successful or worthy of interest at the same time. They could have made Newt easily a cocky and confident scholar who leads an underground rebellion advocating for the rights and protection of beasts. Basically the ‘macho horse guy with the soft spot for traumatized horses about to be euthanized’ trope (if he were shy and the safe choice with the same ambitions, he obviously wouldn’t be the female protagonists first choice). But they didn’t do that, and I loved that so much and could relate to Newt a lot more. (granted, I haven’t watched the last one yet, so Newt might still develop into the usual movie hero but still…)

Unpopular opinion but I thoroughly enjoy this series just because of how different it was to the original series. I absolutely love the OG Harry Potter but this hit different. And I think The Appleton Oak really nailed it, its an expansion of the universe and it's also a period piece. This series sets up a lot more consequence and danger than the OG. Like in a much darker way *chef's kiss* . But also like as a gay awkward man, the subtle hints at abuse, the anti witch sentiment, and I relate to Newts awkwardness. It just hit me different. ❤️❤️❤️ Can't wait to see the rest with y'all.

Ditto I very much like this movie and the first sequel the second sequel I don't know if it's just the fact that Johnny Depp was replaced and I didn't really like the new guy but I really didn't care for that one that much but maybe I'll get used to Mads Mickelson and the fourth and 5th will be better or maybe it's not the actor maybe it's just the plot of this movie didn't hit the way the other ones did

@Myles Riley I understand it's a different vibe but keep in mind this is not only the same world in a different country but a different time frame this was damn near a century ago so if you went to a different country a century ago people wouldn't talk the same as we do here and things wouldn't have the same vibe hell do you watch The walking Dead did you ever notice that not everyone calls them walkers some people call them other things that's because not everyone is from the same region and heard the same thing that they refer to the zombies as and that's the one difference between our universe and the one of The walking Dead there's no zombie media these people don't know what the f*** is zombie is so nobody uses the word zombie and their experiencing a zombie apocalypse so yes it's going to be regional what people call them

There's a fan theory that Newt is the one that gave Aragog (you know, the huge spider that almost allowed Ron and Harry to be eaten alive) to Hagrid. They both love crazy magical creatures, only makes sense! Also, in Prisoner of Azkaban, when Fred and George first give the map to Harry, if you look very closely, you can see Newt's name in the castle! Love these reactions!! Most people liked this Fantastic Beasts one and rag on the second and third, but I've loved them all!!

And to play off this a little bit, when they twice mentioned how the gas explosion excuse was the go-to excuse to cover up magic in the no-maj world, I immediately thought about Men In Black. Since MIB is science fiction, they use a gas leak as the reason for the "mass hysteria" of so many people seeing aliens or strange occurrences. And instead of using the wand to obliviare, MIB uses an alien piece of technology to erase people's memories. haha

And another thing some people may have missed, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is the actual title of Newt Scamander's book, and is a standard requirement for First Years. I explicitly remember reading this in the first book along with Bathilda Bagshot's A History of Magic

the screen play says otherwise, its not LIVING DEATH its referred to as a Highly corrosive potion called DEATH POTION its not living death as living death is not corrosive. the death potion completely eats away anything that touches it so there is nothing left over the Draught of living death simply causes its victim to fall into a deep, death-like slumber

THis movie was great, so clever with the creatures, the depth of the magic world. The conflict with the Muggles. I was very pleasantly surprised by this movie and loved the tone and direction it took. The follow up movies tried to get a bit too complicated and suffered for that balance between danger and mischievousness. THe cleverness didn't seem natural as it did in this movie.

So glad you guys are reacting to this! Oak, since you are reading the books right now, do you remember the list of required items Harry needed in the first book when he was Diagon Alley with Hagrid? Among the school books that Harry needed to purchase, one of them was Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander! I just think it's really cool seeing that, especially after watching the Fantastic Beasts movies, because you know the author very well at that point and the origin story of him and his book.

Greaat reaction like always ! Just some infos about Bellatrix: So Bellatrix Lestrange is originally a Black, she was born Bellatrix Black in 1951 (this movie is set in the 20's). She is the eldest of three sisters: Andromeda Black (later known as Andromeda Tonks when she married Ted Tonks, a muggle-born. She is also the mother of Nymphadora Tonks) And Narcissa Black (later known as Narcissa Malfoy when she married Lucius Malfoy and had a kid with him: Draco Malfoy) Bellatrix married at some point Rodolphus Lestrange, which is why she is now known as Bellatrix Lestrange. So technically, without knowing any of Leta Lestrange backstory, there is no blood relation at all between Leta and Bellatrix.

I love Fantastic Beasts more. HP always felt like corny kids movies to me while Fantastic Beasts feels like more for adults AND kids. And in FB everything isnt limited to some little school. Theyre in "the real world"

I'd forgotten that The Oak has a young son. I'd recommend that you give your son the experience that so many Potter fans had of growing up with the books/movies. The way to do this is start when he is about 9 or 10 and read him a chapter in the first book every night before bed. When you have finished the first book then watch the movie together. Then wait a few months and start in with the next book. Only watch the movie when you have finished the book. At some point, let him take over reading the books for himself which will build his reading skills. JK Rowling had the brilliant idea of increasing the vocabulary, plot and character complexity with each book so that a child can start with the first book and by the time they reach the last in the series they are reading at an adult level. It would be important to not watch all the movies at once. Let him hear/read the book before seeing each movie and intentionally keep it as a relatively slow bonding time for the two of you.

@@schenkov I guess I'm mirroring the bonding experience that I had with my daughters. It was lovely to read to them together and was really a close time for the three of us for me to read to them each night while they were in bed. My daughters still mention how much they enjoyed that time of us together with them starting the series. Soon enough they take over reading the series for themselves. The age is arbitrary but I looked at it as slightly under the age that Harry Potter was in the first book when he turned 11.

That’s what I did with my son, by the time we got to Goblet, we were reading aloud, together but from two books. It has been one of the bonding experiences we still talk about now that he’s an adult…that and Avatar, lol

So Newt is mentioned in the books as the author of their schoolbook of the same title as this movie. You’ve also heard of Grindewald, even in the movies. He’s the one shown as a very young man in The Deathly Hollows, as a flashback, stealing the Elder Wand from the Bulgarian wand maker Gregorovich. He’s also mention in Philosopher’s Stone when they read Dumbledore’s chocolate frog card, which states he is best known for his defeat of the dark wizard Grindewald and his work with Nicholas Flemel. That’s how Dumbledore ended up with the wand. Further context from the seventh book that wasn’t touched on enough in the movies but may help you with this series: Grindewald is the nephew of Batilda Bagshot, the old woman who lived in Godrick’s Hollow. You may recall in the 7th film that Harry and Hermione thought they were meeting with her, but she ended up being Voldemort’s snake Nagini in disguise. When Dumbledore was a boy growing up in the Hollow, Grindewald came to stay with his aunt Batilda, and the two boys became very close. They eventually fell out, however, as Grindewald chooses a villainous path and Dumbledore a righteous one

i mean personally i dont really like this movie. despite loving harry potter and having read the books multiple times. but beyond the occasional call back to something magical these films never really felt like something from the same harry potter universe. i dont quite remember what my biggest dislikes was back when i saw this movie but i remember thinking what i already stated, that it didnt feel very much harry potter, and i also remember thinking it was quite boring. not so much boring that it didnt have action, the story just wasnt that good in my opinion. everyone likes different things and these movies, even the newer ones just doesnt scratch that harry potter itch i get sometimes, it just doesnt feel like the same universe.

Just to remind you guys, all the details here are also in harry potter. You really have to pay attention to every single detail in harry potter because it would make sense in this series also. For example, grindelwald is the one who steals the elder wand, and later voldemort came to him asking for the wand and newt scamander books are used in hogwarts and also once show up in marauders map when buckbeak was planned to be killed, i guess he came to hogwarts to negotiate on not killing buckbeak. It was very fun guys when you found these details!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but Newt Scamander showing up on the marauders map is simply a little fun gimmick they planted in the third movie, because they wanted to make a fun little reference. It neither had any meaning to the plot of the third book, nor does it have any relation to anything else in the HP Universe... I know fans like to make up tons of stuff just to make something cooler than it actually is, but this really isn't anything special... The only time Newt Scamander was actually mentioned in the HP canon, was in the first book on Harry's Shopping list... Literally the only mention of the name ever in all of HP and it didn't mean anything even back then.

@@MrBigNicholas The movies are NOT canon... that's the point... The only canon of the HP series are the books and that is official. There is no "movie"-canon and "book"-canon, there is simply HP-canon and these are the books and only the books. The movies are but an alternative to the books that are not 100% accurate but try to tell the same story in a broken down version because of movie runtime. But they are officially not canon. And even if the movies WERE canon, it still wouldn't mean that Newt Scamander showing up on the Marauders map was anything more than an easter egg... It doesn't mean anything.

@@mojin7470 to create a movie from a book is to create a new canon specific to the movies. The second something differentiates, it's a new canon. There is a movie canon and a book canon, the only thing that can be considered non canon is fan made stuff. Everything has its own canon even if it was created from another source. So yes, it's canon to the movies that newt was visiting to try and save buckbeak, but not canon to the books. Simple. Also the books wouldn't be able to portray every character on the marauders map so who's to say he wasn't there in the books? Not saying he was but it's strange to argue against a thing you can literally see in the movie

Newt is a Hufflepuff 💛🖤 and “Fantastic Beasts and where to find them” is the name of the book that Newt wrote and years later it’s used in class at Hogwarts. If you rewatch HP and the sorcerer’s stone, Harry mentions the name of this book to Hagrid when he’s reading the list of school supplies. 🥰 I’m so happy you guys are deep in the Wizarding World ❤️

JKR wrote Fantastic Beasts as a textbook. She was part of the screenplay writing, but this series doesn't have a book series to follow. So much fun and I am so glad y'all loved it!! Newt is a Hufflepuff!

The Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them book is an encyclopedia on the magical creatures in the wizarding world that Newt writes. It was one of Harry's textbooks in Sorcerer's Stone. So it exists both in the story and in real life.

I love FB, although I do understand the people that don't love it, I personally really enjoy being able to see magic without a school holding people back, and I love the background premise of making sure the magical creatures are well treated and protected, I love Newt as a character, I love how well he represents Hufflepuff. Not a big fan of Tina and some other people, but oh well. I still really enjoy this and am super excited for you guys to take a journey on this chapter too! Hope you enjoy!

I am so glad you guys reacted to this series as well and that you like it. Some people don't, they find it boring or hate that the leading male character is pacifistic and gentle. I however LOVE this series - and ESPECIALLY Newt, partially because he is so different than the typical leading male hero trope. I love that he's gentle, socially awkward, and caring. He uses his strength and power to protect endangered species no matter what people think of him and that is hella strong! I feel like my young adult self will always love HP more but fully adult, now in my 30s me... I don't know, I kinda like Fantastic Beasts more. I feel like its a little more mature and a little.... bigger than HP. And this series focuses on the wizarding world as a whole rather than just the UK and European wizards. I also love the approach it takes to villains... that many villains are born out pain, fear, or ignorance and not every one can be handled the same. Sure, you see Voldy, you should immediately disarm him at the very least. But Credence... completely different. Still someone who is hurting people, but not really out of malicious intent. This is a young man who has been hurt and abused his whole life and when he finally gets magic, it gets all twisted up inside of him that he becomes something else. This is a victim made villain who needed help and guidance, not destruction. I love that concept - it's very much a lesson that real world governments and law enforcements should take to heart.

Heads up guys. In the first Harry Potter movie, Hagrid mentions his memory of bringing Harry to the muggle world when he was no bigger than a Bowtruckle. Now you see the darling little creatures they were talking about. BTW, Bowtruckles often gather around wand trees that provide the wood for all if not most wands. SO they are used to locate these trees by wandmakers.

Considering this movie is based off of literally an encyclopedia of magical creatures(it was a 2001 encyclopedia before they made it an actual book series) it did a pretty good job at it. I remember being skeptical hearing about this movie but I still always find myself enjoying it quite alot.

the fantastic beast book is different, it is like a school book (you even have Harry, Ron and Hermione notes in it), is more of a catalog from the magic beasts. But it does exist the script from the movie as a book

Honestly I absolutely adore this movie! Idk how to feel about the other ones but this one is a stand out in the entire franchise to me. It has the exact right amount of nods to things we know from the original films/books, great magical whimsy and world-building that's just so *fun* but it's still a quite mature movie and Newt as the main character is an unconventional male hero. He's awkward and introverted and empathetic and kind and cares deeply about his creatures, yet manages to save the day (a true Hufflepuff). He has a personal goal that we know he ultimately achieves (he wants to write a textbook about Fantastic Beasts and we know he does, it is one of Harry's school text books!) - while this goal has to be set aside sometimes for saving the day and all that, it is still something he follows through with in the end because it truly is his passion. I absolutely love him and adore y'alls joyful reaction!

My favorite part of these movies is the difference between them and the Harry Potter story. Newt as a protagonist is great little weird but his love for creatures and the fact he say in this movie that the ones in his case don't want to harm anyone. That story element is really unique.

I loved all of your reactions to this awesome film! I saw the film in theaters, and it was magical on the screen especially where Jacob and Newt are going through all the creatures and their habitats. I personally think one of the best parts of the film and this film series is the expansion of the Harry Potter Universe. In the Harry Potter films its from Harry's perspective so he doesn't know how expansive the Wizarding World is and the closest we get to that is when we learn of Durmstrang and Beauxbatons in the Goblet of Fire and we hear little snippets about the Wizarding World but nothing too in depth and as a huge Harry Potter fan that I think seeing how other witches and wizards and their schools are outside of Hogwarts is extremely interesting, it makes it feel like a more realized world and not just contained inside Hogwarts. I hope you all enjoy this film series and I cant wait to see your reactions to the next two films!

@@mojin7470 how doesn’t it make sense? Wands doesn’t give people magic it’s within them, all the wand does is help channel their magic to be able to use their magic with precision and efficiently. It makes sense a powerful and skilled wizard like Grindelwald is skilled in wandless magic. Also wands in Harry potter were created by Europeans to be able to channel their magic easier and make them more powerful , in other place in the world like Africa and Native American tribes also use wandless magic.

@@Ronruk The thing is, that the whole premise of the Harry vs. Voldemort situation is based on the fact, that Voldemort cannot hurt Harry, because they have wands with the same core, which is why he needs Lucius' wand and then the Elder Wand "to be able" to defeat Harry. If wandless magic existed, this simply wouldn't work... This whole plotline wouldn't make any sense, if you consider wandless magic to be an actual thing in the actual HP canon... Nowhere in all of the 7 HP Books was ever a single thing about wandless magic. They don't teach it, they don't use it and it existing destroys the whole premise of the "Harry vs. Voldemort" conflict from the 4th book onwards... If wandless magic existed, Voldemort would know about it and he would use it... Him not being aware of it or knowingly not using it is just simply a huge plothole in that case... I guess that thing about "Wands being made by europeans and wizards around the world performing wandless magic all the time" is probably something told by "Just kidding Rowling" on Pottermore, right? Which is fine and all, but info like that just makes the HP story less believable and kinda stupid...

Chiming in on loving this expansion of the universe and adding a bit of commentary on Tina and Queenie, both of whom are undervalued in universe: Queenie due to lack of ambition- [when her ability could have garnered her enormous power] - & her naturally ethereal nature, and Tina due to having lost her cool, attacking that abuser in front of witnesses, and therefore endangering secrecy - a potential death penalty offense to her bosses, who instead settled for demoting her and treating her like something they got stuck on their shoes. We get to see how skilled they truly are, yet I've noticed them being undervalued in fan commentary too, which is particularly glaring to me in the case of Tina, who was holding her own against Grindelwald himself(!) - though, admittedly he was somewhat distracted - and who we know was an Auror, and we can infer was valued enough that she wasn't simply obliviated and sent off elsewhere rather than being kept at work, albeit at a much reduced rank. Yes, Newt is the star & Jacob his new best friend - and probably my favorite character in the series- but I hate to see a creeping tendency to overlook these two powerful sisters because of the reduced circumstances in which we meet them.

I loved the whole universe built, the characters are awesome, it has some wholesomeness in it that works and I loved to see a more "mature" wizarding world. But then, the second and third are just....too much of a mess. It made me sad because it had so much potential :(

I like the second movie, but I refuse to watch the third movie since they re-casted Grindlewald. I've heard the actor is really good, but I'm biased so I don't really care enough to give him a chance. I also don't support Ezra after all of his scandals, but that's just me. I also don't care too much for the story of Dumbledore and Grindlewald as I feel it takes away too much from the Beasts. I'm glad though that **you know who** gets married, but that's all I really like. I might rent it just to see what it's like, but I don't think I'll actually buy it.

@@junior523 but it's not a spoiler? We already knew about how Ariana had tried to suppress her magic and it resulted in her uncontrollably acting out and causing damage. This happened when Albus and Gellert were fighting. If the person watching the scene where Newt and Tina were explaining what an obscurus is remembers what Aberforth said in Deathly Hallows Part 2 or in the book, that Ariana tried to keep her magic hidden, then it's not hard to put two and two together. If for some reason the person didn't put that together, its not a spoiler to tell them. The actual spoiler was that *****spoiler***** the obscurus in this movie, Credence, is actually Aberforth's son.

Easily the best of the three Fantastic Beasts films for me, and I'm glad you enjoyed it so much. Great reactions from all of you, Dan Fogler really nails the comedic role in this. I remember when I saw this in the cinema, I noticed the similar shot of Grindelwald and Graves' back of their heads in the opening, so I wasn't too surprised when that twist happened. The Credence reveal was good too, I liked how they tricked the audience by having Newt saying that Obscurial's don't live past 10. Here's hoping you'll still enjoy the next two installments, they have good acting, casting, music, special effects etc, it's just a bit of a shame about the plots.

The Rings of Power series isn't great, but it's not as bad as some say it is. And mainly I'm just enjoying experiencing more stories in that world.

I love this series because there are familiar elements from the HP universe but the story is entirely new to us. It's also interesting to see how different the wizarding world is in America as well as how different it was in this time period as opposed to Harry's time which is the early 2000s (but late 80s in the books).

I wholeheartedly agree. I actually like the FB movies much more than the Harry Potter ones - the tone and pacing is a lot more similar to the HP books than the actual HP movies were. Probably because JK Rowling was so much more involved in the writing and production of the films. I also adore Newt and really appreciate seeing a non-stereotypical - and introverted! - protagonist on screen. One of my biggest issues with the HP movies is how much they pigeon-holed the 3 main characters so that they fit Hollywood expectations of the noble, one-dimensional hero, the flawless “kick-ass” female and the sidekick/comic relief. Even in just this first movie, Newt and his ‘team’ are so much nuanced as characters. Newt and Jacob are especially relatable. And the more mature, adult themes will highlight complex aspects of their personalities even more. Also, keep in mind that JK Rowling wrote Grindlewald’s rise to power as a direct parallel to Hitler’s rise in Germany. She clearly knows her history, and the story going forward holds a lot wisdom. People tend to forget that Hitler was not initially a tyrant. He was voted in by the people. And Grindlewald story shows how people can be swayed by a charismatic leader who seems to have good intentions.

I was actually looking forward to this film long before it was released. I read the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them and it was amazing! It was a comic relief version as it had a lot of notes from the trio, I ended up reading on all the creatures just because I was looking forward to Ron's quips! I really love Fantastic Beasts and I'm sooo happy that you started with this already.

I really love this movie. The moral lessons are quite subtle and the mood is pretty dark in comparison to the OG saga, but I think is accurate if you think that our protagonists are adults living in the period between the wars with a perfectly active villain.

I love the Fantastic Beasts movies but one of things I don't like is that the movies rely too much on CGI. What was great about the HP movies was that it was a mix of both CGI and animatronics.

Easter egg: in the movie Harry Potter and the prisoner of azkaban, when the Weasley twins give the map to Harry and he opens it, it is possible to read the name of Newt Scamander (probably at hogwarts for the hippogriff sentenced to death). However, I love your reactions.

thank you for an amazing reaction! jacob still remembers the creatures because the potion newt gave the thunderbird only removed "bad memories" of magic. everyone in New York had bad memories cause it was just destruction but jacob had fun with the animals and thus he remembers them.

You just give the same stupid explanation that they use in the second movie, to retcon the whole plot of the first movie... Still doesn't make any sense and still is not a real reason. Because you cannot say for sure, that each an every muggle will have only bad memories of these events. That just straight isn't realistic, which means if that an actual there would probably be at least some muggles in New York who would still remember at least part of these events (For example to brother of the politics guy who got killed), which means all of it was for nothing... The reason Jacob remembers the animals shapes and forms is simply supposed to be a fun little extra, to give him and Queenie a deserved pay off in this movie. Nothing more and nothing less... The explanations of the second movie are all shit, and are not under any circumstances to be used for things that happen in this movie...

@@mojin7470 the creators of the movie actualy gave this explenation even before the sequels came out. On top of that, it is canon, people may not like every piece of canon but it is what it is. I was just trying to give a fun little bit of trivia which is canon in this universe.

Hi, these two days I did a marathon rewatching fully all Harry Potter videos, waiting for fantastic beasts. I discovered you with the first film HP reaction and i’m with you since ❤️I wanted to ask you if you could react to a film, if you haven’t watched: BILLY ELLIOT. A super famous British film, you may have heard of it, starring young Jamie Bell, that you may know for many action and historical films in Hollywood, so I would like to recommend this one because is pretty iconic about this kid in the 80s in Uk with difficult and poor background who wants to do ballet and dad and brother are against it,I love how you make deep conversations and thoughts and how you catch deeper things and if I understood you have children, so it would be interesting to see how you approach this theme of the story, because there are many life lessons, social situations and father son relationship, I don’t want to say more, it’s acted really good, and there is also Julie Walters (Molly Weasley). Hope you could do it. Love from Italy 💕💕 and you’re right when you said we’re like family after HP, to me i felt connected with you since the beginning, I’m 25yo I feel you like uncles ☺️

I've been waiting for this ❤ Since you guys liked movies that had deep meanings/life lessons especially Oak, I really recommend you guys to watch The Haunting of Hill House. It’s a horror series (10 eps) but trust me you wont regret it. It’s so much more than just scary ghost or jump scare, its a beautiful horror story..
