So Roose Bolton needed the fortress taken before he could move his army north. The ironborn were in rough shape because the locals (Jojen Reed’s people) have been picking them off with poison darts one by one. The commander was dying from poison when Theon met him. That’s why the other Ironborn were desperate to get out.

I believe he was trying to pick sides in the war...... That's why he wanted the mountain to admit that Tywin was the one that gave him the order. Then he could easily go against Them. Oberyn was a very intelligent man. I don't think it was just for revenge that he was so hell bent on hearing it.
If you recall in the last episode Tywin in the council meeting realises Daenerys is becoming a problem and is surrounded by two capable counselors, Jorah and Selmy. He sent that Letter to Divide Daenerys council from within, he did the same thing with Robb by sending Letters to Roose Bolton in Season 3.

The beetle dialog was pettiness by the showrunners, David & Dan. A critic named Orson wrote a piece on the series that they were bothered enough by to create that scene just to mock him.
The writers SAY that while Tyrion is faced with his probable death, he is contemplating why random brutal acts (such as the acts of the Mountain) occur in the world and equates Orson's 'beetle carnage' with the savagery of these mindless brutal acts. It is almost as if he was foreshadowing one additional brutal act by the Mountain that was similar to Orson...🤮

I feel the beetle dialogue was about GOT (and human history more generally). So much ultimately pointless killing, and Orson's compulsion to violence is a perfect distillation of that. Or Orson is GRRM. Also, more and more convinced that the weakling Robyn (bird's name) is the child of another "weakling [mocking]bird", Petyr Baelish. Jon Arryn was married multiple times without progeny, and teenage Baelish had impregnated Lysa successfully once before. Mockingbirds are in the same genus as cuckoos, and will lay some of their eggs in other birds' nests (evolutionary strategy/chaos is a ladder).
Oh, glasses are not a bad thing! I now have reading glasses in my entire apartment and almost all my jackets, because otherwise I can hardly read anything. This is the episode where I started to dislike Dany and started to like Sansa. BTW It's OK Ashley to like Baelish, he's unshamely among my Top 5 GoT characters. lol About the end there, it's indeed confusing how the verdict is played given that the two men are on the ground(I'm not that far off in the books so it was probably different there?). Maybe Tyrion was found guilty cause it's a 100% sure that Oberyn is dead whereas we are not sure with the Mountain, he may just laying there to recuperate or he's just unconscious.

In this entire show I feel there's only two wasted scenes and this episode has one of them. that little story that Tyrion talks about his cousin Orson just seems to have no point... Or maybe pointing out the arbitrary and pointless nature of trying to figure things out is the point..
I just want to see a reaction to the Red Nose Day musical and more honest trailer reactions. Oh, and Seth Meyers' Jon Snow dinner party and Melisandre baby shower skits. But mostly the musical!

Congratulations Lindsay, on your final chemo treatment! I believe Tyrion's story about the beetles being smashed by their cousin was metaphoric. He never understood why innocent creatures (or people) had to be killed by those who held more power. I remember watching this episode for the first time and realizing Oberyn was about to lose. I said "No, he just punched all of his teeth out of his beautiful face!" And then when he smashed his head in like a watermelon, I just remember being completely mortified.
I'll say that the beatle story was not foreshadowing and more there's not always meaning in death or events. Sometimes...someone smash you with a rock and thats just it

Congratulations and the best of health to Lindsay. But that moment with Sansa where she makes her new dress is one of the greatest character turning points in TV history. The moment she stops being a pawn or a victim and finds agency. Love it. Also love the "my name is Oberyn Martell, you killed my sister, prepare to die" speech.
Stephani.... I think Ashley earned a nickname at the end of this episode and that nickname has to be "Shot Caller". Serious kudos on keeping a straight face when she rattles off like 3 or 4 plot twists in a row that are two seasons away. I know Lindsay called Jamie helping Tyrion first, but Ashley adding in the Varys bit was crazy. I said a few episodes back that Ashley was starting to figure this show out, and my god is she ever figuring it out. I don't know where you are in filming but if you haven't gotten to through season 6 yet, I have a suggestion for them to try. When reactors get to the final two seasons I almost always tell them to stop watching and write their own ending to the show, because what ever they could think of would be infinitely better than what we got. So that is my suggestion after season 6 have them write down how they think the show is going to end. And then after the final episode they could share with us what they wrote and compare them to what actually happened.

We people, are like beatles to these "gods", playthings who die in their will. natural disasters, wars, plague, or even accidents etc. We have no defence to this unstoppable force who does not love or care us, and since in this story the cousin is a simpleton, unable to. But on a lighter note, they joke that this is also a reference to George Martin on how he likes killing his beloeved characters.

The point of the beetle story is how men in power can destroy things and not give a second thought to it as long as it's what they want. It's a curious thing.
Lindsay turning quite dark there with the "She should have killed him. In this world, you kill people like that." about Jorah. But Ashley's heartbreak over the scene brought tears to my eyes. Such a sad and beautiful moment.

Hello lovely ladies! I know you filmed this a good while ago, but it's lovely to see the energy in Lyndsay as she reached the end of her chemo. I adored the cursing from Ashley today, she's usually more in control of herself, so the utter outrage was delightful. I'm enjoying this so much.
