I said this same thing on another reaction channel and got BLASTED for it. People called me a “r@cist sympathizer” and ignorant. I haven’t gone back to it but I wouldn’t be surprised if there were 200 additional comments under mine 😂 but yes! This is one of those movies where once you go back and know what happens, you pick up on a TON of little nuggets. I appreciated this movie because it has an actual storyline and isn't just all blood and gore. A good Halloween movie to watch is The Witches of Eastwick. so many great "easter eggs" or sly nods to the plot in this when you go back and watch. The "black mold" in the basement, Georgina being the "piece" of the grandma they kept there, the fact Chris has to pick cotton to allow for his freedom, the granddad being a runner in the Olympics, Rose separating the colored cereal from the white milk, the "hope I don't get chased off with a shotgun" line Chris says at the beginning to Rose... just so many cool things.

At a certain point when Chris is trying to fight his way out of the house, Rose's brother grabs him from behind and Chris is unable to stab him effectively with the knife. 37:30. If you remember: When the father was explaining that the grandfather ran in the Olympics and lost to Jessie Owen, they established that he was a track runner. And now that he has the body to run, he was just running whenever he could. He couldn't do it during the day when everyone was there so he did it at night when no one was around. Because he loved to run.
@deepermind4884
@deepermind4884 2 года назад
But that doesn't explain why he ran almost directly AT the guy. I think the explanation for that was that the grandfather was getting influenced by the black host body, who was trying to somehow communicate with the guy (forgot his name). Either that or the grandfather wanted to prevent him from smoking a cigarette. 🤷🏻‍♂️

when Rose uses the deer rifle to "hunt" down Chris symbolizes how she has always been this hunter of sorts for the family to hold as almost trophy types to show off just like the deer head on the wall. @VonPatzy

Also the father at the very intro responds to their deer accident saying the deer are out of control and need to be killed. Historically in the American era of slavery black men were called “bucks” (male deer). That particular metaphor is one of the most blatant in a pretty metaphor heavy film.

Hey Natalie! Watching this as a Black woman, the most incredible moment of symbolism for me is that when Chris is trapped in the chair late in the film being controlled by the teacup noise, what ultimately saves him is his ability to pick cotton. He picks it out of the arms of the chair and uses it for earplugs, and the primary activity of slaves is what KEEPS him from having his body enslaved. So, so brilliant.
@TT-wu8kc
@TT-wu8kc 11 месяцев назад
This is a great insight. Thanks so much for sharing your perspective. As a brown person myself, what stood out to me while watching this movie is how it subverts the white stereo typical idea that the black man is a threat and not to be trusted. In reality, black people are the ones who have justifiably lived in fear - of being racially vilified and treated like second-class citizens in their own country. "Get Out" explores these complex themes in a bold and original way by using the horror genre to reflect back to us the real horrors in our own history and society.

You watch it after you have already watched it and thats why you know everything? Is that what you mean? Thid gal is a fraud. And her laughs are forced and fake. And she always looks to her right when she laughs. Checking to see herself in a mirror to validate how real it looks.

I was so excited to see this notification!!! AHH!! Post-watch: Definitely recommend watching this a second or third time. There are SO many hints and hidden things leading to the ending that make the film that much more enjoyable. Also, side note, apparently Jordan had a more "realistic" ending planned, which went along the lines of what you thought was going to happen (with the red and blue); I'm very happy he gave this official ending instead. It's like, a breath of fresh air. Much appreciated.

When I first heard Peele was doing a movie called "Get Out" I really thought it was going to be more tongue and cheek; then I saw and it scared the shit out of me. It just validated all that old conspiracies from uncles chatting at family picnics. In the slave days I believe they referred to black men as "Bucks" so that stag head on the wall might also have that symbolism. Him being a trophy buck, didn't think about it until you pointed out how prominent it was in the scene. Allison Williams was terrifying. Also just realized she is drinking the milk without the fruit loops so the colors don't mix. As a product of miscegenation this makes me laugh but also hurts. Fucking ouch. If you're black it is kinda horrific the whole time :D Great commentary throughout, you made me see some shit miseed.

Lots of intricate details in this one. Like when the cop asks for his licence and the girlfriend makes a scene, it's not because she thinks the cop's being racist, it's to hide his identity (in case someone files a missing person report)

An incredible career arc for Jordan Peele. Starting out as a comedian and then becoming an Oscar-winning writer/director of Horror films (he won Original Screenplay Oscar for this). I also love his recently released film NOPE (2022). I'd love to hear your thoughts on Key and Peele sketches (which he did in collaboration with Keegan Michael-Key). Their valet sketches (especially GAME OF THRONES S1-4, Batman, and Iron Man) remain my personal favorite.

It also has a great child actress, Even skeptical zombie film connoisseurs who view this film love it.

There are so many little details that stand out on repeat watch once you know what's up. Such as: 1. The girlfriend didn't want the officer to run Chris's ID because it would be a paper trail of Chris going to their home. 2. The grandfather was running because he (as a white man) was beat by Jessie Owens. He runs because he never fully got over it, like the dad said. 3. Georgina saying, "I don't answer to anyone." She is the grandma, she's the matron of the house. Also ties back to the scene where the dad is giving a tour of the house and says "We still keep a bit of her [his mother] in the kitchen" and it immediately reveals Georgina in the kitchen. 4. Chris saves himself from the teacup sounds on the TV by literally picking cotton [from the armchair]. The original ending was supposed to have the actual police show up and end on Chris in prison. When it was shown to test audiences, it didn't sit well because it was "too real". Considering this came out in 2017 when racial violence was on the rise, Peele changed it so Chris wins.

Your reaction to the ending was great and also exactly what they hoped for. Jordan Peele has talked about how his originally written ending was what you and most of the audience feared as we watched, that the police pull up and arrest Chris for killing a bunch of white folks, and they were going to have Rod visit Chris in prison and have a similar but with a totally-opposite-tone "I told you so" talk. But Peele and the producers eventually thought that was too depressing and that it'd work better with a happy ending, so they pulled the TSA/cop car twist precisely to elicit the type of reaction you had. It's so great.
