@@justtrustashI’d like to echo these sentiments. I’ve seen this film at least 50 times… and I’ve never failed to shed tears. George is the heart of the film, and Mary is the Soul. They are incredible. YOUR reaction is one of the BEST. Thank you for the banter, reactions, tears, and laughter you both have given us. One more thing: since you love this film, here’s some 10s for you: “THE SHOP AROUND THE CORNER” Another (younger) JIMMY STEWART film and you’ll love it. GREAT dialog and acting in this awesome romantic comedy. “PLEASANTVILLE” … a BRILLIANT film that starts out a comedy, but quickly turns into a remarkable social commentary with SYMBOLISM galore! You will both ADORE this film. …and finally… “STRANGER THAN FICTION”… again, a brilliant film with top-notch story, acting, and cinematography. A beautiful story you’ll both love. Wishing you both a very Merry Christmas and a FANTASTIC NEW YEAR!

Jimmy Stewart was an honest to God war hero during WWII, but suffered from PTSD following the war. “It’s a Wonderful Life” was his first movie after coming home. When he is melting down at home and at the bar following the loss of the money, you’re not just watching a great actor, but a man letting all his pain and anguish from the war spill out onto the screen. Jimmy Stewart was a great man, and as close to George Bailey as Hollywood’s ever seen.

Well, actually he would be an amalgam of George and Harry Bailey as the brother was the war hero pilot.
@mnomadvfx
@mnomadvfx 9 месяцев назад
@@gk5891 What you are missing there is that Stewart was already a well known actor before WW2. As such promoting visible personailities to higher positions was done as a point of inspiration to the masses in the armed forces. So while he no doubt did very well, he was also very likely promoted beyond the worth of his actions alone for the sake of morale.
@chriscypert8616
@chriscypert8616 9 месяцев назад
@@mnomadvfx Hard disagree with your point. Promoting from O-1 to O-5 during WWII was unremarkable, as such a broad and dynamic war made for rapid promotions for many high performers. Hell, Dwight Eisenhower was a mere colonel just months before Pearl Harbor. What’s remarkable about Jimmy Stewart is that he was nearly alone among big stars to demand combat duty, when his celebrity would have allowed him to duck it. If fact, the War Department preferred to keep stars away from danger specifically because their deaths would be bad for morale. Many other movie stars and athletes certainly got propoganda promotions, but Jimmy Stewart was a damn fine aviator and leader who earned his rank and the respect and praise of the men who served with and under him.

James Stewart had served in the war and came back with PTSD, so he used that in his performance in It's a Wonderful Life. He thanked the film for helping him through his trauma. By the way, if you folks are interested in other James Stewart films, I recommend Harvey, Rope, and Vertigo, the former being a cute comedy and the latter two being Hitchcock thrillers.

You're flat-out not human if "It's a Wonderful Life' doesn't make you tear up at some point. I've watched it a few times myself, now; I've seen plenty of reactions to it like this one, and I still get a lump in my throat at certain moments. It's one of those lightning-in-a-bottle films that can never be replicated, that are timeless and yet act as a time capsule. It's very special to a lot of people, and I'm glad it was special to you. Incidentally, since you liked Jimmy Stewart in this, I'm going to recommend another movie of his that he made a few years later: 'Harvey'. It's a very different movie from this one - it's a comedy - but he's very good in it. (Also, how many other movies are you going to see that are focused around a giant invisible bunny rabbit?)

Jimmy Stewart is a brilliant actor, I went on a binge of his movies a few years back. I would personally recommend 'Rear Window' it is the movie other than this one that i ended up rewatching again and again. Its in color, and it's not depressing, funny at times and a thriller. Also referenced in the old Simpsons episode where bart breaks his leg and buys a telescope :'D. In fact the Simpsons makes numerous Jimmy Stewart film references in the earlier seasons ' Hey ! what the hell are you doing with my money in your house Fred!' :'D

@dannymartinez9371

This movie gives more lessons in emotion than in thought. For example, why would Harry have an award ceremony on Christmas Eve? And where is Harry's wife? Would have been so easy to include her in the end even carrying a child.? But those things don't matter because we still achieve the emotion intended. As a sidenote, Lionel Barrymore (of the Barrymore family of great stage actors) who played the evil Mr. Potter was a sweetheart of a man in real life, by many accounts. React to Harvey. That movie with James Stewart is an inspired script by Mary Chase from her Pullitzer winning play. Moreover you guys sing very well. I have seen vocal reaction videos and she reminds me of Bernadette Peters. As lovely in beauty and sound. I appreciated most the love comradrie you guys obviously share.

This movie is a great example of what the Bible teaches. That everyone's worth is invaluable. That God loves you so much that He comes for you. That in all creation, you are loved that much. And like this movie, many do not know it or even find it hard to accept. That all you have to do is accept and receive the truth. And when you do, you will see that precious value all around you. Not only in your life, but in that of others. Merry Christmas !!!

With Ash's reaction, I see more than ever a man's story/perspective in this movie. The importance of the father and son relationship, sacrificing for family, big dreams diverted, dealing with failures, questioning your place in the world, sometimes feelings of hopelessness. Also the touching side of how kind people can be, a wife, friends, the community, that can make a real difference for us. I've watched this movie every year for almost 10 years at Xmas time... I never caught that til this year, thanks to the comments section. Right before my boyfriend from highschool passed, a mutual friends mother had an embroidered piece in the bathroom that said, "The Love In Our Hearts Wasn't Put There to Stay... Love Isn't Love, Until Its Given Away". I know the phrases are different, but at the same time, the same 💝

In 1982, I was on the verge of doing something very stupid. Before I had the chance though, this movie came on the TV. It was the first time I had seen it and it changed my life. This movie is the main reason I am here today to even write this. I watch it ever year and cry and thank God that he placed this movie before me to show me how wrong I was. I hope you get as much from this movie as I did and do each and every time I watch it. I am going to grab some Kleenex now and watch your reaction.

You were spot on about this film saving people. It came out in 1946, right after WWll, and so many shattered and despairing veterans were struggling to deal with what they’d been through and trying to be normal again. Jimmy Stewart, who played George, had ptsd from his own war experiences, which he drew on in scenes like when he hugged his little son or was praying at the bar. Stewart lived to be an old man, and for the rest of his life, veterans came up to him and thanked him for Its a Wonderful Life. It is still saving people.

Also note that the movie opens in 1919, just as another terrible war has concluded couple with a terrible pandemic, the Spanish Flu, which amounted to over 50 million dead in a period of only a few years. Mr Gower's son likely died of the Spanish Flu. People who lived through the first half of the 20th century had tremendous resilience.

I used to think the world wouldn’t be different without me either. But now I’m married to the best man ever and have two beautiful daughters. My life has made a difference to them and everyone out there has their people who think so too. We all have value. And we can all have a wonderful life if we work every day to make it so. My Dad killed himself when I was 17 and I thought my life was over. This movie got me through many bad times and Christmases. But I clung onto the message of it all my life. No matter how dark things get you CAN find the light again. It may take years, decades…but I found it and I will never let it go. Keep walking everyone! You can find it too !!

Lionel Barrymore, who was the hated Mr. Potter, was nothing like his character. He was a kind hearted man who was part of the famed Barrymore family. An outstanding Actor. His Sister was Ethel and his Brother was John. He and Jimmy was in an earlier movie worth reacting to, You Can't Take It With You from 1937, also directed by Frank Capra. He is also the Great Uncle of Actress Drew Barrymore. And the bird was a Raven, not a Crow.

Mary is kind of the unsung hero in all of this too. Whenever the depression hits and George is about to lose everyone to Potter, Mary is the one who immediately offers their honeymoon money. At the end she is the one that finds out what’s wrong and starts getting the town together for George. She truly is his other half. Selfless and instinctually just thinks “how can I help” without any regard for herself.

John Wayne who worked with Donna Reed twice. Once said of her She's the kind of woman every woman wants to be like. And the kind of woman every man wants to take home to meet his family. Incredibly beautiful, a very talented actress, kind, treated everyone the way everyone should be treated, regardless of your social position. Everyone who worked with her. Agreed with him. She was known to go out of her way to help those she could. Sadly, she passed away at the fairly young age of 64 from cancer. Her Marker simply Reads her name and 1921 - 1986.

"No man or woman is a failure who has friends." It's a Wonderful Life is my all time favorite Christmas film. It's the best feel-good movie that everyone needs to watch because it shows how everyone is important. No one is bigger than anyone else. We all matter because we as individuals can make a difference, no matter the situation that comes towards us. Also, Fun Fact: James Stewart was nervous about the phone kiss scene because it was his first onscreen kiss since his return to Hollywood after the war. Under director Frank Capra's watchful eye, James Stewart filmed the scene in only one unrehearsed take and it worked so well that part of the embrace was cut because it was too passionate to pass the censors.
