I never felt this flick got the respect it deserved. I don’t think it’s on the level of the original, but they at least changed up the setting and had some good elements. Kudos for giving it a shot.
Also liked how it revealed more of the predators’ code of honor: no hunting of unarmed or pregnant species, & they hunt seasonally on different planets throughout the universe.
Yes, like most sequels of this time, it follows many of the story beats of the first one, yet still manages to be entertaining thanks to the quotable dialogue, some decent acting and fairly solid action. I never get tired of watching it. :)
@@bunnytailsREACTS If you want one where Bill Paxton is the hero, then watch "Twister". It's not an action movie like "Aliens" or "Predator", but it's still very entertaining, and it gives Bill a chance to flex his acting chops.
LOL, At first I was like.... Bill Paxton is in Titanic..? Cause I couldn't remember him as any of the characters on the Titanic... LOL. And then I realized, of course, he was the captain of the expedition to look for the Heart of the Ocean...
That "everyman" feel Danny Glover brings is why I always prefered this to the original. If your wanting more Bill Paxton, Apollo 13 and Twister are the ways to go.
Glad you have seen/tracted to Predator 2. I've generally liked it as it revealed a little more of their code of honor, etc. One caveat; wasn't Mike an instant too late when he cut off the self destruct? Youll find out later this way an iffy tactic, but 👍👍 for your Reaction.
@@bunnytailsREACTS when it comes 2 the Xenomorphs that self destruct device on the Predators wrist is bit a backup plan/plan b of making certain/sure the Xenomorphs get permanently taken out should they (The Predators) happen 2 lose!
Eatly scripts for Predator 2 had Dutch leading rhe team eventually led by Gary Busey and Adam "Jayne Cobb" Baldwin. It was a much different script. Dutch would have survived, for one thing. And he, not the cop, was the lead character. Dutch's team would have been wiped out, and he and the cop would have been the sole survivors. Arnie was running for political office at the time and bowed out as a result. So the movie got reworked. Danny Glover, straight off of Lethal Weapon, got the lead, and his cop role got expanded to cover much of the prior "Dutch" action. The cop had previously been the #2 character, not the lead, though he would have still been the one in the ship at the end...
18:30, people who have a mystical talent tend to interpret the Predators as an evil spirit or as something off in nature. Remember how Billy acted in the first movie?
There was a proposed sequel that teamed up Mike and Dutch (Armold from the first movie). Very few details of it are available. It was never made because Predator 2 wasn't very successful. I would've loved to see Arnold and Danny Glover on screen together.
It would be epic. Even now, if they'd make it I'd wish for both of them to appear, maybe in some short roles, giving out some info and exposition. But seeing where the franchise went from 2, I doubt I'll ever see any good predator movie
Adding the xenomorph skull to the display was just an Easter egg the set designers put in to excite the geeks but - at the time - was not meant to connect the two space franchises. However, the inclusion of the skull created such excitement that a comic book series was created to join the two. And for many years that was all the fans had, a series of B&W comics by a small independent publisher. But the fans kept pushing for 20th Century Fox to make a film based on the premise. It took 14 years to bring the two alien species together on the big screen! That being said, looking forward to your reaction to "Prey."
One correction... the comic series did this BEFORE the movie did. Dark Horse comics just happened to have the rights to do series with both franchises. They saw it as a good fit, so the did a series with both. (And many more later.) But this movie "canonized" the crossover. Dark Horse did a lot of crossovers, as have many other comics publishers since then. Batman vs. Predator, Green Lantern meets Star Trek, Star Trek meets Doctor Who, you name it. So far, this is the only comics crossover formally canonized, however, as far as I know anyway.
@@carybrown851 I couldn't remember the exact timeline. I did remember the addition of the skull in Predator 2 was only meant as an in-joke at the time. I used to read some of the Dark Horse Aliens comics - particularly their story of what happened after Ripley and Newt returned to Earth following the events of the second film and how that made a much better sequel story than what was eventually released as Alien3.
@@peterkoester7358 Did you know that the script for Alien3 was originally written as a sequel to the first movie? The authors denied it later, but this was a minor reworking of a script previously submitted, and rejected, as "Alien 2." That's why the opening credits effectively undid everything in the second film. It put Ripley back into an escape pod, crashing on a prison world full of monks. The original script had the new creature coming out of Jones the Cat. The "revised" script went to an ox, and then a dog, but the design remained "catlike" in nature. If you ignore Aliens and go from the first to the third film, it almost... sorta... makes sense. As it is, though, I'll never forgive the studio for putting out that god-awful abortion of a film. 🤯
@Gimil38 You seem not to understand how "discussion" works. That sort of unsupported declaration is utterly pointless. Not saying you're wrong... or that you're right. I'm saying you haven't said anything at all, really. Not trying to be a jerk here, just giving you some hopefully beneficial advice. Provide an argument... sone reason WHY you think they're trash... and then you've contributed something. People can then agree, or disagree, based upon something apart from "cuz I sez so."
The scene with everyone on the subway being armed was pretty much lifted from the first Predator comics released by Dark Horse, except in the comic it was a train car filled with Wall Street types. And the cop chasing the Predator in those was the brother of Arnold's Dutch.
Your take at the end is actually a very good take. From what I’ve always heard and read the predator in this movie is basically an inexperienced juvenile hunter. That’s why he’s on Earth with a hunting party rather than being alone. Also why he uses all different sorts of weapons instead of just a cannon and blades, why the first one was able to take out a bunch of special forces guys and in the end not be beat, but take himself out, and this one was taken out by a cop. This hunt was more like a training hunt and right of passage kind of deal. Once Mike killed him in hand to hand combat though, they let him go and gave him the trophy. Some of the other movies have some good parts in them, but I don’t think they are as good as this one with the exception of Prey. The first movie just sets the bar so high.
I have to agree with you, this is not as good as the original.. However, it is better than most of the remaining sequels. If you want to see more Bill Paxton, may I suggest the movie " Tombstone " which is a different genre, but a very good film. I also like watching you get fired up while you are reacting to a movie. Thank you so much and I can't wait to see your next post.. 💖
It's a pretty interesting study of the settings of the first two Predator movies. One is an untamed land of savagery and lawlessness full of deadly monsters and gun fights, whereas the other is a jungle in Guatemala.
What gets missed alot by a younger person watching today is that while it was released in 1990, the film is set in a dystopic 1997 and was emulating films like Robocop. Whie yes, crime was grabbing headlines in 1990, a lot was based on paranoia. Films depicting out of control crime making day to day life unlivable was a staple of a lot of "fifteen minutes into the future" type sci fi, again, especially after Robocop.
The first one is excellent... the second is awful. My only quibble with the first is that they sped the life cycle up waaaay more than it had been in the first two Alien films. If the first film was like AvP, Kane would have "chestburst" before he was even out of the derelict!
Hello Bunny. I have a classic Scifi suggestion for you. The Incredible Shrinking Man starring Grant Williams. Give some movies that aren't on every reactors list a chance. Enjoy.
Lethal Weapon is another movie series you have to watch at some point. One of the best body cop series with Danny Glover (Mike from Predator 2) and Mel Gibson. All 4 movies are pretty good. My favorite is the 4th movie.
Yeah, you can now skip directly to Prey (which is awesome, btw.) Though the third installment of this franchise ain't bad, if you feel like checking it out. The fourth? I like to pretend that one didn't happen.
Of the cast, the captain is played by Kent McCord, who starred with Martin Milner in the long running Jack Webb 60's TV Series Adam-12, it was about a pair of LAPD patrol cops. The reporter was portrayed by Morton Downey, host of "trash-format" talk shows, and Gary Busey is Gary Busey, who early in his career came to notice portraying Legendary Rock Icon Buddy Holly. :)
Bill Paxton has small part in Weird Science (1985) and Twister. He doesn't die in either of them. Bill directed and starred in Frailty with Matthew McConaughey it's really good.
I still remember the first time I saw this as a kid in the 90s. :D That flintlock pistol the Elder Yautja (that's what their species are called) gave Harrigan... the date made you realise, they've been coming here for a *long* time. The Xenomorph skull was also great to see, but I really wish they hadn't tried to make the tie-in movies, because they kind of sucked.
If RU-vid keeps slowing everything down because of adblockers gonna have to find another place to watch stuff on. It was brutal on this video. Nice job anyway!
It has nothing to do with a fetus being defenseless. It's a custom among hunters that you don't kill an animal that's in some phase of the reproductive process (copulation, pregnancy or nursing). Not for any chivalrous reasons, but just because a hunter wants to be able to continue hunting in the future, and he can't do that of he's killed all the stock before they're born or matured. In other words, you have to give them a chance to grow up before you kill them. (Ironic that this is NOT how a _predator_ thinks, but they clearly up the naming confusion two or three sequels later.)
This was the first of the Predator or Alien movies I ever saw. When I was a kid, I don't remember how old, I turned on the TV one day and it was right at the part where Danny Glover and the Predator were having their final fight inside the ship. I was so fascinated by everything that was going on. I don't like *all* the movies in the franchise, but I don't think any of them are really that bad, so watch whichever ones you think look interesting. My main recommendation would be "Alien vs. Predator". It has a fantastic lead actress, Sanaa Lathan, who voices Catwoman in the Harley Quinn cartoon (which you should also watch, if you haven't already).
@@mikerodgers7620 Now that I think about it, I must have been about 12 or 13, if Predator 2 was in its TV stage. *smiles wryly* I'm 42 now, and apparently I'm at the age where everyone younger than me is a "kid".
The Yautjas (aka predators) are warriors who have been hunting in the Universe for millions of years (there's a T-Rex skull in the ship at the end). They hunt dangerous prey, but they have a code of honor: no children, no pregnant women even if they're carrying a weapon (Leona), and no weak or unarmed men. When a human succeeds in the feat of killing one of their own, as Mike did, they show him profound respect by offering him a gift.
Great reaction! I love your perspective. To get more of the Predator/Yautja lore you probably should watch "AVP" then "Predators". They should set you up to watch "Prey" with a deeper understanding.
So I can’t help but notice… Men in a Predator film: **flashes any sort of weapon for even a tenth of a second** Predator: “FAIR GAME!!!” **proceeds to blast him and rip out his spine** Women in a Predator film: **tries to fight any way she can until the magical plot armor fairy kicks the weapon out of her hands or reveals a barely week old baby in her uterus** Predator: “I’ll pretend I didn’t see that…”
Twister(1996), for one, features a heroic Bill Paxton. Hero roles don’t often play to his strength, though. If I had to make a choice, this would be my favorite Predator movie. The script, action, and level of movie-making all gel better here compared to the other movies.
YES! After seeing your reaction to the first Predator movie and saying you planned on watching Predator 2 I have been eager for this special day, bunnytailsREACTS. Thank you so much and I hope to explore more of the Predator/Aliens franchise in the future. Kudos to another fantastic reaction. 👍
Now that you have seen the first two Predator films, I cannot wait to see your reaction to Prey. I love that Alan Silvestri composed the music for both films. If you want to see a great movie with Bill Paxton, watch Twister. That is an amazing film and he was amazing in it. The actor who played Captain Pilgrim in this movie, Kent McCord, I remember as a little boy in the 1970's watching on the cop series Adam-12. So that brought back memories of my childhood. And that scene at the end, when all those other Predators show up? Well, let's just say that when I saw this in the theater, my jaw dropped. The actress in this movie, Maria Conchita Alonzo, was in the 1987 film The Running Man with Arnold Schwarzenegger. It's based on a story by Stephen King and, while being different from one another, the story and the movie are awesome.
Well... Next Sci- Fi stop for Bill Paxton... "Galaxy Quest", along with Sigourney Weaver, Tim Allen and Allen Rickman. You like "Star Trek"'? You gonna love it!
I love Predator 2 just as much as the first! They're just different. Also, True Lies is an awesome Arnold Schwarzenegger film with great Bill Paxton moments!
Also, Bill Paxton is the only guy who managed to be killed by terminator, xenomorph, predator and Nick Fury in his career. XD P.S.: If you searching movies where Paxton plays hero, which also not dies there's not too many - Trespass, Monolith and Twister. :)
Another film featuring Bill Paxton that no one else has reacted to is Katherine Bigelow’s “Near Dark”. He was actually featured on the poster for that one. He wasn’t the main character but his image is quite striking.
Backstreet Boy comment broke me. Gary Busey was at his peak after winning an Oscar for The Buddy Hollie Story. Unfortunately, his life changed due to brain injury from a motorcycle accident.
2:07 María Conchita Alonso - she is so hot. :) 6:39 I like your reaction there. 8:52 "Oh yeah..." :D 9:58 Well, it's the 80's... ;) 13:32 "You're not my sister, are you?" :D 18:01 "You can't see the eyes of the demon, until him come calling." Maybe my favourite line of the film.
C'mon, it took all Arnie had to beat one of these, now you're telling me old, and out of shape Glover can take one out? I'm sorry but if hordes of heavily armed gang members and special agents plus the police can't take one out there is No Effin way Glover can. Total bs.
39:51 "They gave _him_ a trophy." In the form of a handgun taken by one of them when they came to Earth on a trophy hunt in 1715. And that's a big reveal. Who's to say how long these trophy hunters have been coming to Earth? Looks like it's been at _least_ a few centuries.
A fine sequel. I can't recommend the AvP series or anything past Predators from this series. It's a shame that the franchise kept on taking away from the impact of the Predator when this movie knew how to add to the franchise. In my ideal sequel, the Predator would still be something of an evil spirit of colonized cultures and Arnie would return playing a role closer to that of Keyes in this film. Instead, most of the following material would rather focus on demystifying the creature into something to the equivalent that you would get on the Syfy channel.
You are one of my more favorite reaction channels and this was great as usual. - Might I suggest John Carpenter's THE THING (1982) It set the bar for suspense and special effects! :)
The Yautja are extremely ancient once a slave race that revolted against their masters. They were originally breed for many purposes but one proved to be a gladiatorial champion. He rescue his people from bondage, and taught them combat. After some time they created a culture devised of hunting the strongest prey on their world, strongest survive etc to purpose of never begin enslaved again. Bored with the game on their home world, they took their former masters technology and transversed the stars for new prey. Hunting is religion to them. They live naturally for hundreds of years.
8:50 I remember seeing this scene in the movie for the first time when I was 12. It definitely catches you off guard. That lady on top is pretty bang'n though. Too bad what happens to that guy on the bottom.
There were rumors and hearsay that this movie has/had a Hard R cut version which included multiple extended/deleted scenes one of was extended battle scene with king willie who was armed with a golden uzi which unloaded his entire mag before taking out his came sword.
Si el Yautja no lo mató , fué por qué tienen un código de honor que lo respetan , el humano eliminó a uno de ellos por lo tanto le guardan respeto , son sus códigos que los Yautjas tienen y se rigen a ellos
Wait wait wait, so in the original predator movie Arnie ran more than 300 city blocks in the time it took that count down to finish? Is that what we are supposed to believe?
The group of Predators in the film is known as the lost tribe. The Predator that Danny Glover killed was on a right of passage. The youngest of the group. Reckless, over aggressive, and over confident which lead to his ultimate demise. Massively underappreciated sequel. Solid cast. Half decent story. Expands on the first movie and has tonnes of memorable lines and action sequences.
As a wee little shit ass one of my fave lines from this was "el scorpio is ready!" imagine some little kid in like second grade yelling that : P Stan Winston was already a legend back then and we loved him : D
Mass Effect 3! Neat! I am actually in that game! I am friends with a bunch of the people who made the series, and they commonly slip the names of people they know into their games. Usually background characters, names on notes, and other such thing. I am a background character, with a couple of voice lines. :)
It’s so funny how Bunnytail took on Mike’s persona in the office scene where Peter Keyes (Gary Busey) introduces himself, reading his mind, finishing his sentences. Did Hawkins (the PussyJoke guy) write Bill Paxton’s jokes?😆. Bill Paxton as the hero. I get you. Have you seen Twister? Bill Paxton holds a record, killed by the Terminator, Alien and Predator! What a bad-ass. RIP. I may be the lone voice in the wilderness and I know you hate the slightest hint of a spoiler. Try ‘PredatorS’.
One of Paxton's last roles was in the 1st season of Agents of SHIELD, a completely different guy. Predator 2 was pretty good, still my 2nd fave of the franchise. The environment of LA made it an interesting take. So now you have Predators, THE Predator, and Aliens vs Predator 1 & 2 to go!
Bunnytails would enjoy the NARRATED version of Blade Runner (1982), voice over by Deckard (Harrison Ford). When she watched Blade Runner, she understood Roy's side of the story. 👍 The narrated version provides DECKARD's side of the story.
❤ Well played, Bunny. I loved this, but I flight it was a little too much for a common police detective as well. That's okay. Sad it didn't do better in theaters. I enjoyed PREDATORS. Thought the premise was pretty good. Danny and Gary? Adversaries in LETHAL WEAPON. Bill? TOMBSTONE, TWISTER, WEIRD SCIENCE, TRUE LIES.
