I get that not everyone likes this movie because it's very extreme, personally I loved it, but I think people are misunderstanding some of it. I don't think Oliver wanted the house or the money, what he really wanted is to be as loved as Felix is, to have the same type of influence he has by making everyone like him. But he doesn't have the natural kindness and charm that Felix has, so he has to do it by manipulation instead. Also drinking the bathwater (as disgusting as it was) is the biggest symbolism of all!!! He was literally drinking Felix's DNA to try and absorb it to become more like him.

Glad Hannah enjoyed it! This movie was fantastic! Oliver just happened to be the perfect predator that the family was completely unprepared for. They were so used to people latching on to them for their money, like Farleigh, who had his hooks in just as tight, even claiming that all of it belonged to him, but the difference between the two was that Oliver wanted it all with no one to share it with! The actors were stunning and amazing but even their stellar performances couldnt save this piece of hog slop. @PowerDiva
@PowerDiva 6 месяцев назад
This was a psychological horror film. I gotta disagree with Ash here though - the shocking scenes were calculated and each had a purpose. It was a slow reveal of Oliver's true character. The bathtub scene was obsession - we saw how obsessed he was with Felix and maybe even a bit kinky. Then after that we started to see the manipulation - the period blood scene and then him lying to Felix about what happened, the situation with Farleigh. That's when we start to realize maybe's not just a nerdy boy in love, but actually a manipulator. Then we find out he's lied when they go to his parents and we start to realize something's very wrong with him. By the time we get to the grave scene we can see that he's a full on psychopath. I mean no normal person does that, right? Something's wrong upstairs. Oliver was a sociopath and this is slowly revealed, layer by layer through each of these shocking moments. It's actually quite brilliant how they did that.

If Patrick bateman have a kid that would be Oliver Quick! I think this movie is portrait what a Psychopath is because a psychopath are masters of manipulation. They've got a whole range of tactics in their playbook from gaslighting to intimidation, subtle hints - all these buttons that help them gain power over someone and put them into a state of helplessness and vulnerability... From a American psycho fan Pov i think it's a great movie! 🤓

The way you guys viewed the grave scene actually made me view the whole film differently now. I’ll admit I didn’t really focus much on the plot a I’d focus on how the film looked and other aspects but focusing on the story itself, it’s repulsing. It’s fine for me, not the best thing I’ve seen. It is mainly for shock factor. The grave scene by the way was improvised by Barry Keoghan, the main actor 😭 Edit: also why was everyone so focused (when this released) on how disturbing the bath tub scene was instead of the grave scene
@ragtimeraver
@ragtimeraver 6 месяцев назад
The grave scene is spiritually/morally disturbing, but Oliver is ultimately just getting it on with some dirt. Watching him slurp up someone's dirty bath watered-down bodily fluids without the person's knowledge, with *that sound*, can make you feel physically sick to your stomach. That's probably the difference.

I actually dont understand the anger during the grave scene. I understand its a little disturbing but to get angry, i just dont get it. Somebody explain why it would make somebody mad? Are they just being extra?

Thanks to Ashkan and Hannah. 🪨 I *adore* SALTBURN! Such a great, stylish tale of a scheming psychopath. The real world has villains even more calculating and patient than him (particularly in which wealth is involved). We must be on constant guard of them. 🦢 All hail writer/director Emerald Fennell.

I agree with Ash. I hurried up and watched it just so I could watch your reaction. I thought it was boring, slow, and unlikable characters. What the creators thought was going to be shocking is only shocking if you haven't watched a lot of movies. The period stuff was just unnecessarily gross. The actor that played Oliver is in a much better film called "The Killing of A Sacred Deer". I think you'd like that. The new Jake Gyllenhaal flick, "Roadhouse" was really good. I will say I think Ash is crazy for not liking Everything, Everywhere All At Once. Looking forward to Evil Dead Rise reaction.

This film isn't half as clever as it thinks it is. The storyline has been done so many times before but better. This was the same story again with scenes added just trying to be 'shocking'. So overhyped

So happy i didnt waste time watching the rest of this movie. I watched half and turned it off. And i very rarely start a movie without finishing. I just felt like the story and character building was lacking. I agree with Ash 100%. That being said, i really enjoyed this reaction. Hahaha 👍🏻

The dandruff could be caused by a fungus on your scalp. If you haven't tried anti-dandruff shampoo's, you might try Nizoral (w/ 2% ketoconazole), which is a previously prescription-only shampoo. Make sure it contains 2% ketoconazole.

I knew where this film was going in terms of who was the real psychopath the minute Felix offered Oliver a cigarette in the bar and he made this big deal about how he doesn't smoke and the next thing he's perving outside Felix's window smoking in the middle of the night. It was giving very "Talented Mr. Ripley" or "Single White Female" vibes where some one really wants your life and will lie and manipulate any way they know how to get it.
@jonathangill6584
@jonathangill6584 6 месяцев назад
I emphatically disagree that the shocking scenes were put in only for shock factor. If that what you think then you were not thinking critically about the film. If you think this film had no substance then I don’t think you have any place reviewing film. To me, Ash was loving it despite Hannah being disgusted and then he wrote off the film the second he found a scene that he personally found disgusting. Every other “disgusting” scene was hilarious to him. Hannah on the other hand, felt revulsion during many scenes but still managed to understand the film in the end. Normally, I find Ash’s end comments to be interesting. But this time it just felt he bashed the film for no other reason than it pushing him outside of his comfort zone.
