The entire plot of the film was spelled out by Ed after Shawn was dumped. A bloody Mary first thing - The Zombie in their backyard is called Mary Go for a bite at the King's Head - Phillip is bitten A couple at the Little Princess - Diane, David and Liz's Stagger back to the Winchester for shots - Pretending to be Zombies and shooting them when they break in Edgar Wright is a genius when it comes to using foreshadowing. All his films have so many motifs and callbacks. I love this trilogy

Don't tell John Landis that. He gets pissed when people say that. He's explained that it's a serious horror film, and that the humor you see in it is just meant to show how a real person would deal with the insane and horrific things that go on in the film. He has said it was never meant or intended to be a comedy horror and that people need to stop calling it that. He won't even talk about the film anymore due to people constantly asking about him having made a horror comedy. It's a really sensitive subject for him.
@manuelodonnell1148
@manuelodonnell1148 3 года назад
@@My-Name-Isnt-Important Methinks John Landis doth protest o'ermuch. There are some comedy elements in there that are there to get you to jumpscares, and some that are meant to show how the mind might react to the inexplicable, but NO WAY are certain scenes anything but absolutely hilarious for the sake of being hilarious. For instance, if he wants to tell me that the balloon scene is not supposed to be funny, he can come over here and do it himself, and I will tell him that he failed.
@My-Name-Isnt-Important
@My-Name-Isnt-Important 3 года назад
@@manuelodonnell1148 Oh no, I agree. The first time I saw him explaining that in a horror film documentary, I was surprised. I had always assumed he made a horror film with comedic elements to it. He says otherwise, but it's there in the film.
@manuelodonnell1148
@manuelodonnell1148 3 года назад
@@My-Name-Isnt-Important Thanks for that. I might have to look that documentary up, because I almost feel like he's taking the piss. It just doesn't make any sense that he wouldn't recognize the hilarity in some of those scenes; it just couldn't be unintentional.

First part of the Cornetto trilogy tackled! Personally Hot Fuzz is my fave so i highly recommend it! Some fun facts that you might have missed. The second group is also filled with British comedians (you totally caught that the groups are the same though) Also the ''we're coming to get you Barbara!'' is a twist on the line from Dawn of the Dead ''They're coming to get you Barbara'' Same for David and Diane's deaths. David is a reference to Dawn of the Dead 2 and Diane is a reference to Dawn of the Dead remake.

5:42 "And of course, he's gonna go to the tavern." Yeah. Now just consider common knowledge about London (the setting for this movie). Sure, there was once _one_ tavern in the city you could get into without a reservation, but that was _centuries_ ago; maybe more than a _millennium._ Now it's a major, international, metropolitan city. If you're tired of going to _the Winchester,_ and you can't seem to summon the foresight to make reservations at any tavern that requires them, you can still go some place _else._ There are taverns all over _town._ And if Liz is getting fed up with _Shaun_ not seeming able to summon the foresight to make reservations elsewhere, why can't _she_ make reservations elsewhere?

the scene where she dies was titled 'Ever Decreasing Barbara', after the sitcom the actress used to be in called 'Ever Decreasing Circles' in the 80s. also, it's worth having the DVD edition if you don't already have in, or the bluray, there are so many extra features, the movie itself is a bonus, and the trivia subtitle track is a wealth of background information about the movie, and some comic book features that fill in a few plot holes in the movie

Honestly, that second "I'm sorry Shaun" legit makes me cry, yeah it's two dude bros making a fart joke in light of their emotional situation. But in another light, it's a dying man trying to give his best friend who he thinks he failed and almost killed just one last laugh before the end, the only thing he can do in his own mind to try and save his friend from shooting himself and his love interest. And since I saw it in that light, it's a very very touching scene that just breaks my weak little heart every time.

This is one of the best films ever. Every detail comes back around. Ed not locking the door, Shaun pushing the mirror to the walk to the shop in one take. Everything has a pre and post zombie meaning it's brilliant. It portrays how zombie like our life really are. This film deserves multiple watches to catch everything. The pub scene where it shows the real problems in their relationship framed in between them is genius. Plus everything Ed says about getting drunk starting with bloody Mary's and ending with shots and cocktails at the pub all come true. Plus the love between Ed and Shaun is so strong. This is one of the best trilogies hands down. Fun fact Dianne actually survives which is nice. If you want to know everything about how great this film is then I recommend FilmJoy and Cinema Wins they have great videos on this film. Great reaction keep up the great work you do and can't wait for you to see Hot Fuzz and The Worlds End.

Simon Pegg is a very underrated actor. He puts 100% into everything he does. 'Sean of the Dead' is one of my all-time favorites, and one of the best jokes is that you never find out how it all started. They did it that way to point out that "how it starts" isn't as important as the people in the story. I Love This Movie! Glad to see that you liked it, as well. :) You should defiantly watch the rest of the Cornetto Trilogy. You'll love it. And If you haven't seen 'Paul' yet, I would totally recommend it.

All the Cornetto films are just movie length versions of the series _Spaced_ ( _Shaun of the Dead_ more than up the others, they even re-used some jokes). _Spaced_ is brilliant. It ran for 2 series (seasons) and was cutting edge British comedy, like _The Office_ or _Father Ted_ (although this one is an Irish / British show) or _Red Dwarf_ or _Blackadder_ .

Fun fact. Shaun of the Dead is actually about Wrights and Peggs fear of relationship commitment as they saw themselves transition from being two friends who used to live together and now hang out at their local pub to being "working stiffs", or zombies if you like, with families and obligations. Subtitle movie time. Watch Amalíe next, or at some point. Probably the best movie ever made in my humble opinion.
@KBTibbs
@KBTibbs 3 года назад
I think this is a really good point. Typically zombies are a metaphor for the creeping inevitability of death. Maybe you can escape the first zombie and maybe the second and maybe the hundredth, but eventually you'll tire, your resources will dwindle, or a random unlucky hit will take you down. The horde will outlast you. This movie brilliantly substitutes its own metaphor that shares the same shape. Fear of soul-crushing conformity making you into the "living dead". It's fantastic that Shaun and Ed are so desperate to survive this transition and see the Winchester (a symbol of their carefree days where they could get drunk) as their salvation. I think that is partly why this movie succeeds as well as it does. Even making the metaphor more trivial (than death), the whole ordeal still means something more than scary, action set pieces.

Fun fact: there was so many pop cultural references, like in Spaced which Shaun... came out of, that there’s too many to mention. One of which was when they bump into the other survivors they say hello to their onscreen partners: Simon and Jessica Stevenson were Tim & Daisy in Spaced, Lucy Davis and Martin Freeman were Tim & Dawn in The Office and Dylan Moran and Tamsin Greig were Bernard and Fran from Black Books, along with Nick Frost and Julia Deakin both from Spaced as well, all household names in Britain in 2004. Also on the DVD they made shorts called Plot Holes, explaining what happened to Dianne, Shaun and Ed. The tune is called The Gonk, the same played over the end of Dawn Of The Dead. This is Dianne’s. 👇 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gkmlwFNUrl0.html

If you're watching this film from the DVD or Blu-ray, check out the special features. It addresses some plot holes, but sadly it doesn't answer your big question - what caused it all. But earlier in the film Shaun walks past a radio saying 'an American deep space probe has returned to earth and broke apart over a populated area'. According to the 'Shaun of the Dead' wiki, it was a mutation of the flu. You just have to come up with your own explanation of the outbreak.
