This film is actually a metaphor for real mental health, as someone who are struggling with mental health this hit hards, because i can feel her pain and frustration in trying to talk to people and family who don't understand what you are feeling.

this movie genuinely exceeded my expectations i went into it thinking oh it’s going to be another horror movie that relies on jumpscares but boy was i wrong and the scene where the skinless thing goes inside of her soo good 2022 horror was amazing

I watched this in the theatres, i’ve never been so scared watching a movie my entire life 😭😭 took me like a week to be able to sleep with the lights off 😂

"It follows" has already been mentioned but I'll mention it again. A solid creepy horror. Another movie that I love is Denzel Washington's "Fallen" (1998). Worth a watch. It's kind of the father of both "It follows" and "Smile". "Smile" is the least impressive of these 3 movies imho. I still can't believe you don't have more subscribers. I've pretty much watched all your reactions (except TLOU) and they're very entertaining. If not THE best in the reactorsphere.

I saw this in theatres and I was TRAUMATIZED

All the flying shots were done to show the demon flying always searching and watching, the flying upside down is the hint.

If you haven't seen "It Follows", check it out. Another curse movie and very similar in tone to "Smile". And IMO, a bit better than "Smile".

Gone Girl is the only movie I've seen where the camera shows the cat a LOT, but the cat doesn't end up being the murderer, the accessory to murder, murdered, etc. I listened to the commentary; the director said the cat was named Cheeto and he lived in the setting's neighborhood. And apparently wherever you plopped Cheeto, Cheeto would stay. For hours. So Gone Girl happened to luck out by having a great cat-actor drop into their lap. no: continuity errors or a character saying a dramatic line with a tiny paw coming into view 😛 Data from Star Trek had a pet cat and the actor has said it was difficult af to get any of the shots. Cats do wtf they want so they probably don't show in movies unless they have to

when i first saw this movie, i actually missed the first half. the second the therapist started talking to rose during the scene at 22:35, i was like "that's not the therapist, is it?" my friend, who had watched all of it up to now, said "no i think it is". :)

this movie for me was basically the ring + it follows 😭 i really liked the performances/score/some shots but it kinda just felt like a movie i’d already seen 🤷🏽‍♀️

Important fun fact from the Director I want to post because you’ve mentioned cheap jump scare and some iconfusion as many did but none of it is what it seems or the director jump scaring you the viewer! The movie is SO much more clever than I could hve imagined . The director said in an interview the flying , floating camera shots are an Easter egg not just camera shots , an Easter egg to the movie that inspired those shots decades agony M Night Shyamalan, the disturbing sounds heard during the shots is also an Easter egg to the inspiration for those sounds and both tell you within minutes of the movie exactly what’s going to be happenenining and if it’s real, imagined or some serial Killed. When I watched the interview I was SO curious becasue the shots and sounds both disturbed me & felt familiar . Thinking about M Night Shyamalan films I thought paranormal , he only did one paranormal movie , “Devil “ and it clicked , the opening credits are while an upside down footing in the sky camera shot felyy to like the drone was searching for someone,..by the end we know it’s either the devil or a demon mimicking the devil that is using possession to do it’s work, it finally clicked, the opening shots and flying shots in the move are all upside down and disorienting, the shots are us seeing through the devils eyes as it flies searching for people to ruin their lives, the shots also occurs at locations of death in the movie tying the shots to the devil & co firming it was behind all the death. I think the upside down flying demon shots are upside down because anciently Hell was believed to be under ground in fiery cave like lava fillled Hell. The concept religiously of Demons that tempt , possss and ruin lives are demons given the task by Satan but operate from clearly another realm, demenaion, behind a veil, the 1/3 of souls that chose to follow Lucifer leaving paradise lost their first estate and wouldn’t be allowed to gain a body & a life on earth , demons hate humans becasue the story goes that eveyone that is born was of the 2/3rds that stayed with God and sent to earth to gain a body , experince life , be tested etc . Maybe as the legend goes hell being below ground implies how the demon flies around below ground or in an upside down like Hellscape? The unsteady uncomfortably turning and rotating of camera tell us it’s not jsut a still smoothe drone shot establishing location . The many passing through into other spaces is how I’d assume it is for a ghost or demon. The searching was the demon searching for its next victims heading to the hospital and floor the first girl was on and our main character as well as Joel. The disturbing sounds in this observing camera views from weird crooked angles and flying upside down just feels evil to me, hella creepy , just misery and disturbing . When you realize all those wierd sounds are during those shots , only when we are seeing things from the actual demons point of view, we are experincing the hellish sounds , constant evil feeling. I later realized the movie he was Easter egging about the sound design is that movie about the true crime writer moving into t house of a murdered family to try and solve the mystery , the one where he finds all the old film of family murders pulling the family into the pool tied up and to lawn chairs. A car on fire , the lawn mover , it ends up being a demon not a serial killer and the completely original horrifying sound looos during the films showing the murders surely indicates the same, the demonic activity of the murders . Figuring those out and the interview saying he lets the viewer know the entire truth and reality immidately . Like in Devil, it wasn’t a killer, or was a demon, and real , same with Sinister , so the flying upside down often flying over our main character while she drives isn’t an artistic shot, it’s the demon following her around. So we know it’s real, it’s a Demon and the crooked shots and flying upside down are what the demon is seeing. He was clarifying everything in the movie is key to the real story , nothing is by chance or for artistic or movie cheap thrills. He said for example said some critics complained of the cheap jumpscares that mean nothing , just put in as a cheap scare and should have Brel left out, he said how random they were like some scenes feel like scenes were cut out . Exame 11:07 a scene I originally felt was cheesy and dumb but JUST caught it in context to the directors hints. We go from a counseling session of her to aa weird view of watching her in standing still in the bathroom staring at yer recollection with a blank stare like the coffee room. The smiles are terrifying her and it made no sense why she’d go try to mimic the smile in the mirror,??? Why would anyone cause additional self trauma triggers? We learn she’s not at all going crazy, not seeing things. This demon and manipulating wit she’s seeing. Watch the mirror smile scene . Note again a random slip of time and actions suddenly standing in a bathroom frozen , no sign of life then suddenly the big creepy smile at herself , look at her body, eyes, and notice the demon sounds dying this . Smiles T herself for. Few seconds and for the first time I noticed it’s the exact same creepy smile we see when she gets possessed at the end , identical and confirmed she snaps out of the smile and again looks ferried and confused looking around like how did I get she’s! Notice the demon scarry sounds only playing when she’s frozen in there, during her smile and stops going silent when she suddenly snaps out of the smile. The demon hd taken more time and possessed her smiling and looking at itself smile creepily then wakes her up mid smile where she looks scared. Yeah misisng time and waking up standing ina.public bathroom smiling in the missle , the fear and confusion like the coffee room trance infil waking up and looking confused .9j man, it wasn’t a cheesy , stupid cheesy scene that makes no sense. , it’s absorber clue that she keeps missing time and the demon keeps manipulate . Any time you what the eerie sounds these on is there . Great movie! writer director said his entire mission was to make a movie unlike any other horror , no cheap scares, nothing is what it seems. He said he particularly refused to put a single pointless meaningless jump scare in the movie , SO every jumpscare isn’t a “jumpscare” it’s continued clues to what’s going on. The phone ringing , wasn’t the phone ringing just as a scare, we learn it’s the demon manipulating her mind, every jump scare is the demon! The criticized confusing random jump scares into some random point of the day aren’t random cuts, he internationally wants the viewers to feel confused , like wait what’s we miss??? He tells us this will be happening with the first victim telling our lead “this entity f&cks with her life, she’s experienced “ big gaps of missing time “(a critical hint) makes her see things that aren’t there , sometimes appears as people you’ve lost to hurt you, a theme taken from It follows and the demon that does the same . When she goes to bed after seeing the girl in her house she hears the demonic moms voice from the dark bathroom whispering to her , she turns the light off , turns over, we know the demon is messing with her from her bathroom, she turns her back to it cloak f her eyes and fade to black for just a second or 2 & then the “random jump scare that is only there to jump the audience ?” Nope, complete silence and darkness for a couple seconds then the flash of light and loud car Honking and she’s standing still in the middle of the street. I can see why some missed the point , felt like did I miss something, that was random. And pointless, why was she standing in the road? Hillarious when you realize from the first girls explanation, the viewer didn’t jump scare into her crossing the street , watch her face and actions there. She’s not walking crossing the street , she standing still middle of road facing the oncoming car that honks but is completely shocked and terrified looks horrified and confused . She was taken over or whatever when it fades to black niche before & the demon wakes her , gives her body back in the idle of the road next day. She went to bed and “woke up “ in the middle of the road , dressed !?? The demon is jumpscarinf her to wear her down and torture her , she has no Knowledge like the first girl of how she got there “the missing blocks of time” we learn her cat was killed and wrapped up sometime probably during that block of time she possessed. We see a number of other moments that she is “waking up” in the middle of day and activity looking confused , all with a crooked shot watching her and the eerie sounds . One of those is the random picking up the thennext day in the break room a crooked shot looking at her from the hallway she’s frozen still standing I. The break room holding a coffee mug with a smile , completely in a trace like daze until someone w says hello and we see some confusion by her. The demon is taking blocks of time and then we as the viewer watch the jump scare the demon gives her through its eyes observing her fear and confusion. Etc. The phone ringing wasn’t a cheap jump scare, again it’s the demon jump scaring her , not the writer jump scaring the audience . She not holding the phone , thus not really hearing the ring. Lara explains s it makes her see things that aren’t real and we sss the lead experince a lot that we learn wasn’t real so you hve to question every scare, her back door Open, was she jsut seeing it as open when it wasn’t ? Like the you’re going to die guy. Etc. After watching his interview , EVERY SCENE EVWET ASSUMED JUMO SCARE FOR RHE AUDIENCE, it ALL is SO much creepier and deep!

Have you heard about the movie "Fallen" from 1998 with Denzel Washington?

I loved this movie when I saw it in the theaters but I really wish they changed the ending. I liked the creature design personally but the way they had it go into Rose;s mouth was just stupid and bad effects as well though Rose killing herself was something that fit the ending because these movies have to end that way to make sense. Either that or the main character in the mental hospital as well and yes even at times they find themselves in jail but those are the only three options that could have happened here. The actress of Rose is Kevin Bacon's real life daughter which is interesting and this movie is also done by a first time director as well. The one jump scare that got me the most was when Rose is listening to the audio file and it keeps saying her name louder and louder and then her mother's face came out yelling her name I was not expecting it and it had my heart pounding for a while after that. The scene with the psychiatrist not actually being there and that smile the actress gave was also freaky though the way it grabbed Rose and had drool from the mouth reminds me a bit of the poster for Alien 3 and I hated that movie so that took me out of it for a moment. The cat dying wasn't a surprise but broke my heart too because I have two of my own cats at home and also side note I hate it when they kill off the animal in horror movies it's too sad and annoying as well.

I see the movie “It Follows” being compared a lot to this movie. I’ve watched both and ngl “It Follows” was garbage. Smile was a nice surprise.
