You can feel the love between these brothers. I believe that if Jimmie hadn't picked up a guitar at age 12, we would never have gotten Stevie.

Well Jimmie's playing was certainly the earliest inspiration, I can't help but believe a talents and gifts as massive as Stevie was born with would have risen to the pinnacles regardless💙🎸🎶

This is a very rare occurrence to see these two on video playing together, Stevie idolized his big brother ,the love between them was genuine and the musical genius you see is phenomenal and never will be duplicated. Stevie proudly wore the Jimmy's little brother label regardless of their differences.

Great reaction guys, srv will always be the goat. Please watch "life without you "at the capital theater, it's totally incredible and really shows his guitar skills, also has a great message.

I’ve had the great pleasure of working with Jimmy Vaughn at several festivals in Ontario Canada. I’ve promoted hundreds of concerts and operated dozens of Blues Festivals - of the hundreds of artists I’ve met, Jimmy Vaughn is one of the kindest, warmest “stars” I’ve ever talked with! Peace

Just when you think you've seen it all, surf guitar meets blues guitar meets the Vaughn brothers and ... speechless really. I have always loved Pipeline, the song from the Chantays about the famous, and dangerous, surf break on the north shore of Oahu. Stevie did another version of the song, a duet with Dick Dale where they never actually met. Stevie recorded his tracks in Texas while the King of the Surf Guitar was in Los Angeles. Not sure who put their track down first and mailed it to the other one, but they both put it in albums, and didn't meet until several years later. Funny how music works. Can't wait for the next one!

The level of mastery here is simply mind-blowing. Imagine the amount of time and energy these boys put into creating this performance. Very few people achieve such divine expression of the soul. Thank you for your reaction.

That track is on Family Style. Jimmie and Stevie share vocals and playbon every track, the last SRV release to come out before the accident. I think i got it on a thursday then that weekend it happened.

I saw them do this in Austin at T-Bird Riverfest in May 1990, so it was Jimmie’s gig. That’s why he jokingly stalks around Stevie at first. They would show up at each other’s gigs if they were in town and play a couple songs in the band. They actually did make an album as The Vaughan Brothers called ‘Family Style’, which was recorded right before Stevie died. There are some excellent tracks, like “Telephone Song”, where Stevie does all his Hendrix tricks, Jimmie’s “Tick Tock”, which was a local hit in Austin, and “Long Way From Home”, with Jimmies world-class rhythm guitar and Stevie’s lead. My favorite. No one ever reacts to it because there were no videos; no videos because Stevie was dead. A lot of people don’t know it exists.

I have read a few books about Stevie and I had the pleasure of meeting someone who knew both of them well. Jimmy had a hard nosed attitude in his younger days and they had an up & down relationship, mostly good but a few rough patches. Stevie had a more laid back attitude & always said Jimmy was his first & foremost inspiration. After Stevie's career began to skyrocket his relationship with Jimmy improved, Stevie helped Jimmy kick drugs & booze and they grew really close. If you are interested there is a very good documentary about Stevie produced by VH1 called the Legends series. Jimmy is interviewed in it as well as several other bandmates & close friends. The legends show will give you a more in-depth look at the man behind the music.

There's a terrific vid of Stevie Ray AND Stevie Wonder AND Salt n' Pepa AND Jody Whatley AND a bass player that may be a Jackson.....on MTV jamming on Wonder's " Superstition", which Stevie performed in shows. SRV is resplendent in a cape AND the plumed hat; his best Puss n' Boots fashion statement. So great. The jam bounces hard. Stevie Wonder performed at SRV's funeral.

So just to make it more complicated, each fret board had different length lengths between the frets. History, Jimmy went to Austin and took Texas by storm! Jimmy was considered the best in Texas and highly acclaimed all over the USA. Stevie moved to Austin a few years later and leaned on being Jimmys brother to get peoples attention but as soon as the heard Stevie play they loved him!

Jimmie started and was lead guitarist in The Fabulous Thunderbirds, who had some great hits ("Tuff Enuff," "Wrap it Up" and "Powerful Stuff." I saw them do a free concert at The People's Fair in Denver in the late 80's. They remain one of my favorite live bands.

The rivalry you mention subsided as the brothers got older, and they had become very close by the time Stevie died. Their two bands toured together quite a lot in the late ‘80s, so their playing together wasn’t that rare. There are a few clips of Stevie playing a 6-string bass with Jimmie’s band, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, on YT. There’s also a fantastic brothers jam from the New Orleans Heritage & Jazz Festival 1990, just a few weeks before Stevie’s death.

Lovin' the BPR blues content here! You guys are always entertaining. I, for one, love your commentary. Keep it up, guys! In keeping with the broader theme of musicians who'll convince you to put down your instruments, I'll mention a drummer named Greyson Nekrutman. He plays jazz, he's youngish, and he's from another planet. Here's a vid of him playing the jazz standard, Caravan, with a huge solo: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AwPCbmTXsiA.html
