FAQ: (Questions that are asked to me OFTEN, will answer here)
Q: Why is a small portion of the video completely muted?
A: Copyright reasons. Sometimes I get hit with copyright claims AFTER the video has already been posted, my only choice is to refute the claim but if RU-vid denies it, I have to either take down the video or mute the small portion they are claiming. If the video has been up for a while, it is much easier for me to mute this small portion in the YT studio and then unmute it months later after people aren't watching the video as much.
Q: Why is the movie not as loud as I want it to be, why can't you show more of it uncut?
A: Copyright reasons. Notice a pattern here? Most of your questions will likely be answered with some type of copyright related reason.
Q: Why is the movie footage flipped?
A: Again, copyright reasons. I am watching the movie the normal way, it is only flipped for the video.

Haymitch agreed with Katniss at the end only because he knows Katniss well and knew she had a plan. Even if not exactly sure what. In the books it’s implied that Coin allowed Prim to be a medic so that she could be sent in to help. Knowing she sent those bombs to come in and it would kill her. And in turn destroy Katniss even further. Also the scene with Katniss and the cat is so emotional because in the books it’s a bit further explained how much her and that cat didn’t get along. So them sort of finally bonding was 😭 I love these books/movies so much!

The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that.” That’s what Katniss says in the book when it comes to her choosing Peeta over Gale :)

I think the line “there are much worse games to play” always hits me because all of their lives were shaped and made by the games, and it took so many people to die for them to find some sort of peace.

I really like this series because while its a story of war, the series isnt about that. Its about katniss. Thats why we dont see the rebels take the capitol, because that doesnt matter to katniss. We stay in her head the entire time and at the end of the day, fundamentally, peeta fits with both her and also the opposite themes of war. Beautifully crafted story by ms collins

The problem with showing mercy to Coin is... it just doesn't work. Only Katniss and Snow know what she did, all her twisted thoughts and what she's capable of. There's no real solution to the problem Coin is starting to be to Panem. Also, Katniss was just tired, tired of the games, war and everything, she made a last effort and off she goes.

I think they did a good job with this adaptation of the books! The hunger games movies are always entertaining to watch... Also, about the situation between Katniss and Peeta/Gale, there is a great paragraph from the last book after it was all set and done, Katniss went back to district 12 and eventually Peeta got even better mentally in the Capitol and was able to come back to District 12... -Katniss: “Peeta and I grow back together. There are still moments when he clutches the back of a chair and hangs on until the flashbacks are over. I wake screaming from nightmares of mutts and lost children. But his arms are there to comfort me. And eventually his lips. On the night I feel that thing again, the hunger that overtook me on the beach, I know this would have happened anyway. That what I need to survive is not Gale's fire, kindled with rage and hatred. I have plenty of fire myself. What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that. So after, when he whispers, "You love me. Real or not real?" I tell him, "Real.”

So I originally hated the final book because of how Katniss didn't really save the day. She sees Prim die and her run to take over the capital is over. But as I got older, I came to terms with and now like how the author Suzanne Collins didn't play into that fantastical hero stereotype. In reality it wouldn't make sense for a single girl to magically take over a government. Instead, Suzanne showed Katniss as a pawn in an already budding revolution. Adults manipulated and used her to the very end. Suzanne wasn't here to show us a fluffy story, but instead gave us a war book. It's all so interesting to return to after reading the books over a decade ago.

i read the books before the movies and midway through the first book i knew she would choose Peeta, the books are told from Katniss pov so we know what she’s thinking ar all times and as a reader it was clear Gale didn’t have a chance against Peeta, whenever she’d describe her feelings for Gale they always came from a place of familiarity, they known each other for years, they have similar backgrounds both having lost their father and becoming the primary caretaker of their family’s, everyone expected them to get married cause they were always around each other, whereas the way she described her feelings for Peeta were clearly of a person in love who doesn’t realize they’re in love, she couldn’t explain what she felt for him all she knew was that even in a place as dangerous and brutal as the hunger games whenever Peeta would hold her she felt happy and safe, whenever he’d kiss her she felt warm and she knew she wanted more, but they biggest reason is that Gale just isn’t a good fit he’s a fighter who has a thirst for battle personality, and Katniss was forced into a war she’d have never chosen if she truly had any other choice, but Peeta represented exactly what every warrior wants after battle which is peace and calm

So it sucks the movies didn't convey her character more. Katniss was always a killer. She was reluctant but when it came to her family, revenge etc, she was for it. Peeta was always the peacemaker, never the killer. It was why she loved him. She wanted Haymitch to save him because Peeta deserved it. Haymitch and Katniss were survivors and would do anything to survive, you see. It's how they were always on the same wavelength too (ie: Haymitch knew she had a plan after she voted in favor of a "Symbolic Hunger Games)." Peeta always wanted to ensure Katniss survived. Our main protagonist Katiss has always been a flawed character. She had to toughen up after her dad died and provide for the family. Her mom went into depression and they were staving to death.

your comment about wishing Katniss wasn't the one killing Coin was interesting. It's a good point, but I've always just seen it as Coin was essentially same as Snow, and could have easily become even worse. She wanted to kill Snow anyway, but Snow was no longer a threat and they did have that strange bond in a way. However, Katniss had lost so much to get to her goal of ending tyranny, that keeping Coin alive would've been too risky. And well, at this point Katniss is no longer fully sane tbh after all the trauma she's been through :D

@@MovieFusion I think Katniss saw history repeating itself with Coin and felt she couldn't let that happen. In that sense she did get to kill "Snow" -- the new Snow. The old one was dying anyway. Katniss did kill in the games, because she had no choice. Same thing here. We got to see who Coin really is, and Katniss did too, but the people didn't -- they would see her as a liberator. Only a few knew better, and one had an arrow.

It’s interesting that you bring up not liking that Katniss killed Coin because it “didn’t fit with the theme”, because I believe that’s what the author was going for. In the books it doesn’t play out as a triumphant moment, and it wrecks (an already incredibly traumatized) Katniss emotionally. Now that you’ve finished the series, I really recommend giving the books a shot if you have the time. Katniss’s inner dialogue is fascinating, and Collins, the author, has some really nuanced views on war theory and the value of human life that unfortunately the movies just are not complex enough to capture effectively. On the surface they look like your typical YA adventure books, but they’re actually quite deep.

Never read the books and I assume the explanation's there but, IMHO, Katniss killing Coin made sense to her character development. The trauma she'd been through - killing, witnessing killing, losing practically everyone and everything, and all manner of crazy sht - that would have quite an impact on anyone. So after realizing that Snow was right about Coin, and finally taking up the mantle of fighting for Panem instead of just for herself and her loved ones... She would have been 100% on board with killing Coin.

@@MovieFusion I think in a way she showed mercy to Snow. I also think while you have a point of showing mercy to Coin would have been good thematically, I think it would have been unwise from a structural point of view. She would have needed to convince others that Coin bombed the medics, which she had no prove of, and it would have prolonged the conflict eventually. To convince people of psychological warfare and actually prove it is hard. Coin promised free elections but in the end she makes a point to say they're in an Interregnum, trying to make it safe for free elections, probably shaping Panem first. Her enemy from the beginning was the Capitol and Snow and by not killing him, she acknowledged that the problem is the system and people like Snow and Coin. And with Snow it wouldn't have ended. With Coin it did. Also Coin let Prim go to the Capitol, it was kind of simply revenge for betraying her family, the only thing she cared about. Katniss wouldn't have minded Coin betraying her that much, I think, but Prim? Yeah, no chance. Loved your reaction, I hope my explanation isn't out of the line and just explains my view, which you might have already considered.

I really like how they didn’t make the ending a “happily ever after” because it wouldn’t be realistic with the other books. When you endure that much trauma it’s never going to completely go away. Sure, you can develop coping skills and learn how to better manage it, but it’s never something you can come back from fully. I like that it’s not a happily ever ending but it’s also not sad. It’s life, and they found some peace and made themselves happy in they’re own way. They finally got to start living, which in this series is a win.

abt Katniss killing Coin, I think this absolutely makes sense. First, Katniss started with not wanting to kill anyone, with the soul purpose to protect Prim. In the end however, she was broken cause she couldn't protect her...Coin was responsible. In addition, she wanted to establish a regime of horror similar to Snow's. This was probably the end of an endless circle of killing innocent children. That circle was the inital reason Katniss ended up in the arena in the first place.

She would helped him with what type of plants to eat. That was the only reason she let him in her circle as a friend. Peta was her first kiss. Katniss hates the cat and the cat hates her. So they came to full circle at the end.

If you remember in Part 1, when they were making plans and everytime Gale would talk strategy on how to kill the enemy, Katniss was horrified at what he'd say or suggest. She walked up on Gale giving the idea of a bomb that goes off then lures in help and goes off even harder than the first blast which is why she questioned if he was at fault. Gale knew it was his idea and that guilt is why he didn't visit Katniss while she was in the hospital and why he answered "I don't know" because while he obviously didn't say to use it then, it was his idea which was used to kill her sister. The reason this whole series started was for Katniss to save her sister and in the end it was her best friend's idea that took her sister... As anyone wouldn't be able to, Katniss could not separate that and cut him off which I don't blame her for at all. Gale's hunger for revenge and hatred of the Capitol slowly consumed him and his ideas like the bomb, burying civilians alive (who are just living, not helping) or even hin thinking killing isn't personal when it always is for Katniss, is why she could not choose him.

Katniss killing coin was kind of her last sacrificial act for the world because she knew that coin was just as bad as Snow. She really had nothing left to lose at that point and she wasn’t going to let everything that happened be for nothing. I also think it’s meant to really show that rebellion and war is messy and nothing is black and white. People have to do things they normally would never and we’ve seen that through history time and time again. That’s what I always really liked about this series, there was so classic hero and happy ending. Katniss did some things that she wasn’t proud of and everyone lost something in the end.

Okay so now that I'm in comment section of movie 4 I'll give my full thoughts on the peeta v gale thing. Katniss always saw Gale as a friend. He was interested in her, but he didn't ever make that known. Not until she got back from the first games and by then it was too late. She was damaged. Gale's feelings weren't even all that deep. I believe he admired her and had a bit of a crush on her that could have easily fizzled out in other circumstances. But because she was sent to the games it created a wound in him where his feelings for her festered. I say it like that because the depth of his feelings for her was deeply tied to his anger at the capital and trauma of watching one of the only people he's close to go through that. You don't pick up on it as much but in the books it's very clear that people in the outer districts don't socialize abundantly especiallythe kids. Not just because their lives are hard and bleak but because doing so invites pain when someone you know is sent to die every year. And as an adult getting married and having kids is a very tainted thing. I think Gale was mostly feeling the loss of his place in her life and their person to person connection. She's no longer the girl he knew and peeta has taken his place in a way. It's that just as much as genuine jealousy that compels him to pursue her. Bombing 12 only made it worse. Katniss by movie 3 & 4 had withdrawn into herself and Gale was quickly becoming a zealot. Eventually his desire to see the capital burn outweighed any affection he ever had for her. To Katniss, Gale was a guy she knew. Someone who she could count on to help her hunt. A reliable guy. A guy she talked to sometimes. And that was basically it. She was grateful for him helping her family while she fought in the games both times and then grateful for him saving as many as he could when they bombed 12. Comforted by a familiar face in the cold and foreign district 13. She cared about him, sure. She needed him at times too. But mostly what he said about her always kissing him when he was hurting was true. She used him because she had to. And he betrayed her. Peeta was a boy she didn't really care for. He was a bit better off than her and she was kind of bitter towards those kids when she lived such a hard life. But he showed her kindness way before the games. And he expected nothing in return. Asked for nothing. Didn't even expect acknowledgment. Then they of course trauma bond. Peeta's feelings become mixed up with all the media and marketing and vying for sponsors. He probably did have a crush on her but the games probably amplified his feelings just because everything was so heightened and mixed up. Afterwards he is trying to sort out how he really feels and how she really feels but he comes to the conclusion that he does actually care about her romantically. For her it's still an act but she feels bad and conflicted about using him to keep everyone safe (pretending to be in love when he has real feelings and she doesn't so that Snow doesn't murder them). Her feelings don't really grow until after games 2. But even then it's more of a "it's far too cruel and unfair to leave peeta to the wolves after everything" than a "I'm in love with him". She ends up choosing to stay by peeta's side because they need each other. I think eventually she did fall in love with him but not until after the war and after grieving. I think it's how they walked each other back from actual insanity that they both suffered post war that really developed their relationship. Again this is all my opinion, but I believe we never even really saw their romantic relationship. Not the real one. It takes place post movies/ books and I kind of love that. There was a romance element for the story but it was perverted into something that wasn't love which fits really well with everything.

I agreed with the Gale part but I think she did start falling for Peeta at least by the second book but she just didn’t understand it just by how she described his kisses made her feel and how she finally felt safe after years when he was holding her. I don’t think it took as long as you think. But I respect your opinion :)

I think Katniss saw history repeating itself with Coin and felt she couldn't let that happen. In that sense she did get to kill "Snow" -- the new Snow. The old one was dying anyway. Katniss killed in the games because she had no choice. Same thing here.

Mockingjay part 1 is actually my fave. Also that idyllic meadow at the end was a mass grave for ppl from 12th. Katniss doesn't kill unless she has to. it was shocking when she killed Coin, but also no one else would have taken her down , and there was no legal way to do that. She was also about to bring back HG, and she was hedging re election. Not to mention she was behind Rue's death. For Rue, and to end the tyranny just as Coin said, I think Katniss thought she had no choice.

lol I have the same ranking between the movies. And I think cause Katniss and Gale are both so hotheaded with these hard exteriors that they were truly not meant for each other. I preferred Peeta cause he fulfilled a lot of the good characteristics that Katniss lacked, and the books explain it best. She kinda needed his calm, warm, sensitive, and good with people personality to balance out her negativity and aggression, especially to heal after the games. They have shared trauma points in their favor and in cases like this opposites really do attract IMO.

I feel like in books it's much more visible that Katniss is mentally losing herself at the end. Like she was barely the same clear thinking girl she was at the beginning, when Coin offered to do another Games or when she shot her. She was extremely unstable, barely keeping herself together, until she went back home - alone, finding the damn cat. In books we see more of her - short part about next weeks and months, where she barely moves or eats, only living thanks to Sue (the old woman who in movie gave her the pin). She hasn't seen her mother or Gale for long time after this, both escaping the ghosts left in 12. We see her hunt and talk with locals who came back as well. Only then Peeta also comes back. In books it was never Peeta vs Gale. It was Peeta vs no one. Movie pumped it up to have the popular love triangle, but she was barely interested in any romance ever.

I don’t think Katniss would have had any way of imprisoning Coin; Coin is the so-called interim President (which we all know probably would have lasted her whole life), while Katniss has no real power. She knows that Coin wants her dead. Ooof, speaking of subverting expectations, imagine if Katniss really did simply kill Snow in that scene… she would likely be dead (via Coin) shortly after. 😬 Sorry, just a stream-of-consciousness ramble. May I add that Finnick’s death just killed me? 😭 I literally threw the the book across the room. He was my favorite character.

I think it’s funny that you thought Katniss and Gale made more sense. In the books, Katniss says that while growing up she always thought Gale as an “adult” because he was older than her and was more masculine. Also in the books, when she kisses Gale after Prim sees Peeta she states that she kissed him Bc she was craving human affection due to her loneliness. Overall this franchise is more than the love triangle. Suzanne Collins is a beautiful writer and I love her books ❤
@nadalind

I agree with your ranking. I will never get over watching Catching Fire in the cinema, I had recently read the book so it was fresh in my mind, and it follows the book so incredibly closely. There are only a couple of scenes cut (Katniss, Peeta & Haymitch training in D12 for the Games, Peeta & Katniss having dates on the roof of the Tribute Centre in the Capitol etc). I sat there in awe. I've never seen a closer adaptation. The themes, emotional beats, underlying plot twists, everything was so tight and on point... I always find it super annoying when people think Gale is a good match for Katniss. They bring out the worst in each other! The books make it VERY very clear that she loves Peeta, even though Katniss doesn't realise it herself for a long time... (Also, Suzanne Collins originally wrote Gale to be Katniss' cousin, but the publishing house forced her to change Gale into a friend and write the love triangle, which she was annoyed about lmao). I've never seen anyone be sad that Katniss killed Coin. She knew full well that Snow was dying anyway, and she'd never get another chance to be close to Coin again, who was every inch as monstrous as Snow, and had the potential to be worse. Coin killed Prim. No way Katniss was ever going to spare her life. 0% chance.

it doesn't take a genius to realize that katniss only ever had romantic feelings for peeta when you read the book. gale was never a romantic option. he used to be a survival option because they were hunting partners but they obviously grew apart here and that's even before the capitol bombing. she was just slow to realize her true feelings for peeta because she saw them and their relationship as capitol product. but it wasn't until it seemed like hijacked peeta might not love her ever again/anymore that she realized she didn't want to lose him and started actively choosing him. the movies tried to pull a twilight which is annoying. well if only people could pick up a book and read

I really loved watching you discover this series. I have to disagree about Coin though. She had to go 😩 lol On the surface she seemed like the lesser of two evils but her motives were selfish and were two folded. She was far more clever than Snow and also had far more people fooled and under her control than him, especially given that aside from Katniss, she was seen as the main emancipator of the people. Even if she was imprisoned she would’ve been able to manipulate & build on that position very quickly. I think Katniss felt it had to be her otherwise the job might not have gotten done, the opportunity would have been missed and the division would’ve mounted, again. I respect your opinion though.

Katniss has way too much going on throughout this whole franchise. Then Gale is her best friend, but she never felt the need to open the door to romantic relationship, but she has an inkling and later knowledge that Gale is into her. She loves him, but not like that, but feels guilty he has to see her with Peeta on TV. Peeta is someone who saved her life by giving her bread when she was starving, and he keeps selflessly helping her and saving her, even when he doesn't think she loves him, even when she thinks that she loves Gale. Katniss is drawn to Peeta, he's her calm center, he's the ray of sunlight in her life, and she doesn't get it , and she doesn't understand why he loves her, but she is drawn to him and wants to protect him nonetheless. However because of the berry ruse he is also the person she would be shackled to if revolution never happened, so while she's drawn, attracted and grows to care for him, she also feels she's being made to do that. So while she's not really felt about Gale like that in the book, but she feels like she's betraying his feelings for her, by finding good things about being with Peeta. it takes Peeta being taken, and throwing all the things she always thought about herself in her face, for her to actively think about and start choosing Peeta. Her and Peeta are jagged and broken in similar ways, so they match, but also Peeta is her ray of sunshine. Meanwhile Gale is pretty much still full of righteous dire, gung ho on co taking the revolution further, and furthering his military career, so life with him would not be about rebuilding and finding peace. Moreover Gale, even before everything wanted kids. Katniss not only doesn't love him like that , but also does not want to have kids, or be with anyone because her kids might get reaped. Peeta though, even before fall of the capital makes her intrigued, ABD want to be with him. (though in the books it took him years to convince her to have children after all. in conclusion Peeta and her had connection, but also got broken and put together in similar pattern, and now match. Her and Gale really evolved into different directions,

I have no issue with her killing Coin. She was pretty much the only one who could. No one else knew what she really was and she had no way to prove it. It was either Katniss kill her or she was going to continue with what Snow was doing or worse. As far as Gale and Peeta, the interesting thing is Suzanne Collins originally didn't plan for there to be a love triangle(Katniss was always supposed to end up with Peeta) but the publisher pushed her to make it one. In the books, it's pretty clear she doesn't have feelings for Gale, she just doesn't want to lose his friendship. Gale and Peeta are supposed represent different sides of war. This is what Katniss says in the book about ending up with Peeta “Peeta and I grow back together. Real or not real?" I tell him, "Real.” " The letter that Haymitch reads to Katniss from Plutarch was actually what he was supposed to say to Katniss but Philip Seymour Hoffman died during the shooting of these last two movies(they shot them at the same time, except the last scene which was shot about a year later with Jennifer Lawrence's nephews!) and that was how they handled that. The kiss between Effie and Haymitch wasn't scripted, it was something Woody Harrelson and Elizabeth Banks decided themselves to do and the director liked it, so they kept it. There was a prequel released in 2020 about President Snow when he was younger and word came out a few days ago that production finally starts on the movie this Summer(the pandemic delayed it)! The book was really good and I'm excited to see what they do with the movie!

And if Katniss needed to be convinced that Coin was behind Prim’s death, you can tell in the victor vote on a future Hunger Games that she believed Snow. When she voted yes “for Prim.” she had decided to kill Coin instead of Snow. She needed Coin to believe that she’d kill Snow - and voting for the “symbolic Hunger Games,” seemingly in exchange for getting to kill Snow gave her that chance. She didn’t want another Hunger Games. She wanted a chance to kill Coin “for Prim.”

Peeta was saturated with tracker jacket venom while being held captive in the capitol. That’s how he went so mad and believed Katness was a mutt. Notice how his face digitally withdrawn? That was from the torture. Should Katness choose Gale or Peeta was a marketing ploy to get the young girls to vote for #Team Peeta or #Team Gale. The same way the Twilight series did with #Team Edward or #Team Jake. Shirts were made and it went viral, so more money for them. That’s why you don’t find out who she ends up with until the end.

But what you don't understand is she was never into Gale. But if what you said was true about her and Gale making more sense, then why weren't they already together? They grew up closely together and still weren't together. And way before she became part of the hunger games it was "kinda peaceful". But they still weren't together and Gale could have also shot his shot long time ago. But it's not till she's part of the Hunger Games he fucking says something... like really??!! And again Gale is an asswhole and he is selfish. Peeta is her humanity and hope. Gale is her fire for revenge. Plain and simple. After everything Peeta went through and then finally finding out the truth about the tracker jacker venom, Gale not once has apologized to Katniss about being wrong. And in the last movie after what happened to Peeta and everything he's gone through before that, Peeta still had way more compassion than Gale did. This shows exactly who the better man/human being is here. So please never again say Gale makes sense or more sense... lmfao 🤣 🤣 🤣🤣🤣 I feel like Gale has so much hate he'd carry it to his grave. And the fact he didn't care about killing the Capitol's children. They're just kids and they only think the way they do bcuz of the politicians in charge and their parents. Its how they were raised they grew up thinking this was normal that's not their fault. And the only reason why Katniss at the end of the movie said it was fine to go ahead and put the Capitol's children through another hunger games was only to have President Coin put down her guard so Katniss could shoot her with the arrow at the end. So even though it didn't let us know how everything played out in the end I know for DAMN SURE that Peeta and Katniss didn't let anything happen to the Capitols children cuz they actually have a heart and compassion and Peeta would never let Katniss lose her humanity unlike Gale!!! So please never again get them confused!!! TEAM PEETA, YES!!!....TEAM GALE, NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

It's to teach middle school students about politics and war. It's not designed to be a standard YA romance thing. Or a "franchise". It's one entire story told over 4 movies. Shaky cam and the rest used to keep it PG 13. The "franchise" is about real war not heroes. Real life is more complicated. Try "Saving Private Ryan" or "Glory". That might give you a better idea about the themes presented. For younger students the series written by Suzanne Collins is the Underland Chronicles. A 5 book series finished first in 2007.
