Homer didn't start off stupid - he was a bit more of an average guy when the first Simpson shorts were aired on the Tracy Ullman Show - but the show tended to exaggerate characteristics as it went on until Homer was "below-average human being or...a brilliant beast". As to the woman's voice you thought you recognized - it's probably Tress McNeil, who does numerous voices on the Simpsons, Futurama (the show Matt Groening did after he got bored with the Simpsons) and quite a few others over the decades.

3:27, the voice actress is Tress MacNeille. She provided such voices as principal Skinner’s mother, Jimbo the punk teenager, Gadget Hackwrench from Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers and Charlotte Pickles from the Rugrats.

The Simpsons were the first true animated show that I loved. Before Family Guy and American Dad and Southpark and Rick and Morty there was The Simpsons.

The Simpsons was on Broadcast TV which is regulated by the FCC... No cursing, nudity and a bunch of other rules (they were on prime time which meant very tight regulation).. Back in the day (first 10 seasons or so) the Simpsons still managed to be the funniest of all the cartoon shows.. Many, many pop culture references and guest appearances.. If you were a fan of the Simpsons you had a reference or quote for just about any situations... SMITHERS, this commnent is over, release the hounds!!!

YES! Very happy to see you reacting to the Simpsons, it may be past its prime now but it had a hell of a prime for many many years. And Homer is the best character in the entire show, there's not a single episode without a laugh out loud moment from him. Hope you do more Simpsons videos, its definitely a different style to Family Guy (personally I think its a better style of humour).

That aside. I enjoyed memory lane. As a grade school kid, it was a family tv time to watch the show when it 1st showed ...... yes im gen x.

THIS was the Simpsons in its Prime. Before South park and before Family Guy. When they were The Most watched animated show of its time. After around season 20 it started to lose momentum because of South Park and Family Guy. BUT it is still going to this day. So there's still a very active fanbase, I haven't watched in quite some time admittedly.

Simpsons was the proto version of these adult cartoons like F is for Family, South Park, Family Guy, Beavis and Butthead, and Rick And Morty. It started off as a portion of the Tracey Ullman variety show, for being one of the flagship series within the Fox network lineup. Parents had such a problem with the crass humour as well as the semi adult content that family groups often protested the content of the series which is tame by the standards of today if you look at the other shows that were listed above. Even the president of the United States in 1989 George h.w. Bush called-out The Simpsons for their portrayal of the Dysfunctional Family. At this point The Simpsons has been on for damn near 35 years without any cancellations( the only other animated show that can boast that kind of number is actually South Park which just hit 26 within this last year) as a result The Simpsons has it very much set the bar in terms of adult animated comedy and if you ever watch The Professor Chaos Centric episode Simpsons did it Butters ends of going a little bit insane because every plan he comes up with as Professor chaos General disarray interrupts him by saying The Simpsons did it first

Decided to watch something on The Simpsons and your video popped up, good commentary/analysis on the edited clips of Simpsons episodes. That's pretty cool how you dissect a comedic scene or character such as Homer "talking to his mind/inner self--the smart self". If you decide to actually watch an episode of The Simpsons especially of Homer I suggest Season 6 Episode 13 where his two oldest kids ask him where are the photos of Maggie (the youngest) in the house....Classic Simpsons funny and sweet....

I love The Simpsons. I truly grew up watching them. Homer is my favorite character.

My Mother wouldn't allow us to watch The Simpsons, she was so hardcore against it. It didn't bother me since I wasn't interested in watching the show lol. Sometime later, I played the arcade game which kicked butt. This was the longest running cartoon series ever. The person who voiced Bart is a female.

Family Guy is ok, but Simpsons just puts it to shame. You are spot on about Homer being a more fleshed out character and the story being more important than jokes which is what Family Guy is way too reliant on. For me, the cut away gags of Family Guy are cheap laughs. But Simpsons have some genuinely hilarious and clever jokes. Like I love the last one where is explains he didn't graduate and then Marge makes that link to him eating soap, maybe it does explain it. If Family Guy tried that same joke, it would just end up being a 'Remember that time you ate soap' cutaway with Peter throwing up or some nonsense. Simpsons will always be the best of the animated shows, even if it has failed to make any decent episodes in the past 5-10 years. The originals are classics. South Park is second, then American Dad third.

Homer is the village idiot. The reason is because as a child he shoved a sky blue crayon up his nose and it got stuck. The crayon reached his brain and had to be removed/reinserted by Moe because of the antics that the removal caused. LoL
