You noticed the weird/cool camera shots that were unusual. Remember when Cole and the Dr are going into the dead girl's room? The camera comes in close to the shiny doorknob? Cole's reflection is in the shiny doorknob...only Cole's

You do see Malcolm's reflection in the knob...it just cuts off below his face. But there's the fact that Malcolm is the kind of doctor who ONLY makes house calls...or sidewalk calls, school calls...never once does Cole go to an actual meeting in an office.

Loved your analogy of ghosts responding to Cole like a panicked drowning person grabbing on to their rescuer and accidently drowning them too. That is so spot on! Like they don't intentionally want to hurt Cole, but the ghost are stuck in a panicked state more often than not, causing them lash out unknowingly. Cole had to learn how to make them calm down enough so that they will let him help them.

You guys gotta remember: When this movie came out, it was before social media was a thing, so positive word of mouth was king for a film's success. The movie was so good, EVERYONE silently agreed not to spoil it for others, and it was almost a password to ask 'Have you seen it yet?' amongst friends, strangers, neighbors, co-workers, EVERYBODY. And later that year, it ended up being nominated for SIX Oscars. Sadly, no wins, tho. Eventually the line, "I see dead people," was a running gag all over TV, but in a way a special inside joke for those that got to see it first-hand. It's dope that this experience is making the rounds again. Keep it up, boys. Great content, subbed. 💯

i think the horror elements, like the ghost jumpscares, are less about trying to make the whole film fit into the horror genre, and more meant to make the viewers feel how cole feels. It would be hard to understand how traumatizing it is for him (until he accepts it) if it was shot differently. Like after he accepts his ability, the woman with the burnt face still Looks shocking, but the reveal of her burnt face isn't shot with the intent to frighten us, because it doesn't frighten cole anymore.

When I saw this in theaters, I kept asking things like: Why doesn't he have a car? Why isn't mom in any of the therapy sessions? Why is he creeping on a kid in a church? Who writes a world where a kid and his therapist take a train to some stranger's house for the funeral of their child? I was still blind sided by the reveal.
@moonakieater2308
@moonakieater2308 2 года назад
I was asking some of the same things but I was rationalizing them. I believed that his mom not being there was because she works 2 jobs. Plus they showed them sitting together right before Cole came in. Malcolm not having a car, that is common in big cities where there is good transportation. Or he just parked around the corner so Cole or his wife and her "suspected lover" wouldn't spot him. I looked at them going to the funeral together as just an activity that Malcolm did with Cole. Some therapists do activities with their patients. So it also got me at the end. And then thinking back on it, I was like of course he's dead. It's so obvious when you look back on it. Duh!!! That's what the second viewing is for. Pointing out the details😂😂😂

You're kidding, right? He kept babbling during key scenes, "Do you notice something off here?", "Does it seem like something supernatural is going on here?" He can't seem to help himself, he just talks and talks over things (which he's already seen), in order to sound smart.

@@Mr.Ekshin - Compare their videos on movies that James has watched that Ninetailedbrush hasn't to the videos on movies neither of them have watched. James asks the same kind of questions in the same way for the movies he himself hasn't seen either. It's not him hinting at things, it's him asking Ninetail what thoughts he's having (it seems to me, that James is more vocal, while Ninetail silently puts things together in his head, so if he didn't ask him for his thoughts once in a while, Ninetail probably wouldn't be voicing nearly as much). When you don't make this comparison, you end just projecting meanings into things. "Knowing what I know about this movie, could that sentence he said hint to what's going on? Yes. Therefore it must have registered in Ninetail's head as a clue". Go watch some reactions to movies neither of them have seen. Sometimes the question James asks turns out to be what's true, other times it's half-true, other times it's way off. Same is actually the case for the movies James HAS watched. Ninetail of all people knows this full well, so he's not gonna hear "do you think something supernatural is going on?" after they've just talked about figuring out what TYPE of horror movie this is (slasher, thriller, supernatural etc) and interpret it as "oooh, that means it's supernatural" in his mind. As far as the "trying to sound smart" thing, that has absolutely no basis. James is very interested in movie-making, so he's gonna be very attentive to the story, observe things that I for one typically haven't noticed/thought of before and make comments on methods used for certain effects that I didn't know about. That's one of the things I really like about their reactions, which is why these guys, Brandon Likes Movies and Shan Watches Movies are my favourite reactors. The fact that you hear things like that as "blah blah blah, I'm SOOOO smart" is more of a reflection of your your view on yourself than your view on them.
@Mr.Ekshin
@Mr.Ekshin 2 года назад
@@VelkanAngels - Brandon Likes Movies and Shan Watches Movies are solid reactors, with a lot of valid input. They don't prattle on like first year film students about lighting and cinematography, and certainly not while talking over crucial dialogue. This guy 'James' seems to think that everything he's got to say is more relevant than what the writers wrote, and thus he talks over a LOT of key scenes. It's a wonder that "Ninetail" has any clue what's going on in some of these films. Just my opinion, but these guys need to discover the 'pause' button. They are amusing at times, but damn... pause, talk, unpause. It's not that hard. And hell, with James having seen most of these, you'd think he'd know what scenes were critical to the plot and shut up for a minute.

Cole's "Sixth Sense" is even more then just seeing dead people. Think to when his teacher was staring at him, Cole starting telling his teacher how he stuttered all the way to high school, and blurted out "Stuttering Stanley". That wasn't random. Cole KNEW thats what kids called him. Also, Cole uses some of the same phrases Vincent said to the Dr: "I'm a freak" and "Don't fail me/you failed me"..Cole sort of picked that right out of the Dr's memory. I'm glad your Cuz was "blindsided" 90% of filmgoers were. 5% figured it out, and the other 5% lied about it..lol Also..the couple that were picking out the ring: the young man was M.Knight Shamalyan...the writer/director. There's such good acting and directing in this movie, it's still amazing to watch even if you know the secret.

I worked as a teacher’s aide for about a decade. The area was severally impoverished and destroyed by the opioid epidemic. Something like 63% below the poverty line. Which means I wasn’t just there to help them learn the count and read. The things these babies went through! Seeing parents OD, get arrested, die in front of them. They saw suicides and violence. And then they’d just have to go to school the next freaking day. Sometimes no one even alerted staff what happened. And, of course, there was just the every day horrors they faced on top of these big events. Food insecurity was the worst. I was in my twenties with no special training. Now I’m approaching 40 and sometimes I can’t sleep because I wonder, how many of them did I fail? I’m still in touch with some of them and I’m proud of them for starting off on strong feet despite everything they endured as kids. I absolutely cherish the updates they give me. But how many others aren’t ok? Was there ever a kid who got beaten and came to school hungry then I chewed them out for misbehaving? Worst of all, was there ever a chance for me to make some profound difference for them…. and I missed it? The opening to this film hits me hard and I cry every time.

This ties in with something that just occurred to me: both Cole and Vincent came from divorced families. I have special needs kids myself, and it's very common when that occurs in a family for the marriage to break down under the stress. Perhaps the reason their parents' marriages collapsed was because they couldn't cope with all the chaos arising from the kids having paranormal visions. So that would be another source of stress for Cole - thinking that it's his fault his dad left, and his mother is struggling so hard to keep the family going.

This is literally the only "horror" movie that I can watch without turning on a light in order to sleep and getting serious nightmares. Even Disney's Princess and the Frog scared me more than this one (Loved everything about it but that voodoo element scared the crap out of me at 9 years old). I remember I watched The Sixth Sense for the first and only time at a Halloween party the program I volunteered with threw. I only watched it because someone from the group that I knew said it wasn't scary and I'm glad I did. Its one of my absolute favorites specifically because of that twist at the end, among other scenes, of course. It was so good, I told myself I got to get my sis to watch it but I have yet to convince her otherwise. Let's just say that in this house we don't do horror of any kind. Thriller, yes. Murder mystery, sure. Action and Sci-fi, most definitely. Heck, we'll even watch what was defined as original horror films from the film and film history class I took. But modern horror is a definite no for me. I guess I am just someone who loves their sleep way too much. On a different note, thank you so much for the reaction. As always it absolutely made my day.

Explained in the special features on the DVD: Red was a precursor for ghosts: The red door handle, the red balloon, the red blankets, etc. Malcolm's clothes are the same through the whole movie. He was in a three piece suit with an overcoat the night he died. His outfit through the whole movie is the same clothes, just adding or removing some of the pieces, e.g. just the shirt and jacket, or just the shirt, or with the overcoat.

A really subtle touch with showing how Bruce WIllis' character is a ghost is how he never interacts with his surroundings, except for the window he hits. When he sits with his wife at their anniversary, he doesn't so much as pull the chair out. She pulls the cheque away from him and signs it. When he's sitting in Cole's living room, we don't see him ring the bell or see her answer the door, he's just there already sitting with her.

We all have regrets of things we did in situations because we just didn't understand the entire picture. I remember two specific instances in my life yet there is nothing I can do about it now because they were strangers, just people in need and desperate and I failed them. I ask the Lord often to forgive and bless those two people and ask him to please hit me in the head with a hammer if I fail that test agains. Compassion for all should be our mindset. Sure there are people out to abuse and take advantage of you, but leave that to the Lord, and do what Jesus would do. God bless you dear. You did the best you were capable at the time.

I found this movie weirdly relatable as an undiagnosed autistic kid. When your brain is better at seeing patterns and making observations and you stick with your personal values rather than what makes everyone in the group happy, they start looking at you like they’ve already decided there’s something wrong with you and they’re waiting for you to say more so they can use it against you in public. Being perceived becomes exhausting and terrifying. The world is full of social traps and sensory jump scares that nobody else is affected by but they act like YOU’RE crazy for having that experience of the world. The real issue is society’s conviction that being different is something you a) control and b) only do for attention.

I was 12 when this movie came out. My parents were real strict about supernatural stuff in movies, so I was not allowed to see it. The day after it came out everyone on the bus was talking about the twist and just ruined it for me. But even when I did see it years later knowing the twist, the movie still worked for me because there's so much working for the movie besides the twist. Like you said, it could have been a gimmick, but the acting and directing support it so well. There are plenty of twists in movies that don't work. Yeah, they're unexpected but they feel tacked on. In The Sixth Sense at the big reveal you immediately think back to all the scenes that gave it away. It ties up all the loose ends. The twist makes sense and is intensely satisfying. I think for better or for worse, the twist kind of became Shyamalan's shtick. People went into his movies expecting it and Shyamalan had to make it more extreme until it started getting silly.

I remember my grandma showing me this when I was like 13 thinking I'd finally be stumped. She said something smug about 25 minutes in and I responded with the exact twist. She was so mad. I haven't seen where anyone else knew but it felt obvious to me. Great movie though.

If you notice, Bruce Willis' character always has the same shirt on, the same shirt from when he was shot, but its always covered, mostly with his coat, so you don't see the blood on his back. Only at the end do you see him in his shirt. You'll notice, as well. that there is symbolism with the color red that appears in various scenes. Apparently M. Night had everything red in a scene removed so that only the particular object he wants to be red is in the shot.
