@@WhatOnEarthh You are comparing very different genres and even with that I think you haven't understood how deep the concept of Tumbbad is. Tumbbad is a piece of cinematic brilliance. It has an excellent story that works on many levels, it has brilliant cinematography, the actors were all terrific, the music was international quality. You'd be hard pressed to find a better execution of the concept. And while movies like Padmaavat are also very good, but just because a movie is based on real events doesn't make it any better than a fictional movie. Movies are not where you should be learning facts from history anyways. Also, it's much easier to make a visually spectacular movie when you have the kind of budget that Sanjay Leela Bhansali works with. Another reason why Tumbbad is brilliant is because this was a brilliant movie made on a shoestring budget. This movie was a labor of love. You can see that everyone in this movie contributed absolutely their 100%. Also, there's isn't one single dialogue or scene in Tumbbad that's in the movie without good reason. I can't say the same about Padmaavat, for eg. There are several songs and scenes in Padmaavat, that honestly, made the movie pointlessly longer. Your other example of Taare Zameen Par is actually a good example of a tightly written scripts with no unnecessary extra scenes, dialogues or songs. Several other Indian movies like Queen, Dangal etc also have very well written scripts and screenplays, but are they brilliant? I don't think so. Tumbbad is brilliant. You know why? Because it makes viewers think. By the time the movie ends you realize the monster is not Hastar. The monster is human greed and the father who encourages greed and vile habits in his son. It shows how society becomes worse generation by generation because not only do we not see own faults, we encourage the same in our children. That we find cover for our fatal flaws by thinking they are something better than they are. I remember the dialogue that the father says to his sahukar friend, "aap hisaab rakho, main saahas rakhta hoon." He doesn't see his stealing as stealing, he thinks he is brave for doing what he does. And let me tell you one more thing about good cinema. I think the year Tumbbad was nominated to go as India's entry for Best foreign movie, was the same year Guillermo Del Toro won an Oscar for his movie, The Shape of Water. Guillermo has made a career out of the concept of that supposed supernatural evil is nowhere close to the evil humans are capable of. Pretty much all of his movies are made on the same concept, Crimson Peak, Pan's Labyrinth, Devils Backbone and of course Shape of Water to just name a few. Conceptually Tumbbad is the same as the kind of movies Guillermo makes. And while Guillermo has become an internationally acclaimed, Oscar winning director, Tumbbad struggled to find audience in India. Perhaps because people, just like yourself, missed the actual concept of the movie. Please don't get me wrong, I am not trying to diss you. I am merely pointing out that while Indian cinema has definitely improved, but the vast majority of our audience still doesn't understand brilliant cinema even if it stared them in the face. Btw, Tumbbad is a cult classic now.
There s a nice detail in the ending. When The son denied taking the loin cloth and went away, the rain stopped. Indicating that the curse has been removed. The gods have forgiven his family.
Nope, it just stopped means if you see carefully in the beginning when Sarkar died, rain stopped during his cremation but appears only when Vinayak insist his mother to tie that old lady and ask about the treasure.
Fun fact: The actor who played Vinayak Rao's son also played the grandma. Also what the movie showed here is that greed increases over the generation. Son was greedier than the father, so no matter how careful you are, eventually someone will get too greedy, slip up and get bitten by Hastar. Thus continuing the cycle of curse.
The actor how played vinayak roa is also director of movie. And also story behind making of these movie is also interesting. Interesting may be not the proper word but i don't know how to describe it. Peace ✌️
There is another detail about circular motion of life: the younger brother sadashiv dying out of nowhere was symbolic: he sacrificed- unknowingly - to help her mother get rid of greed. She stopped caring about the coins after he died. Same happened at the end, the son stopped caring about the coins after after his father died. The movie had a lot symbolism.
Omg I never noticed it, I thought it only happened in the ending, but now that you mentioned, yeah infact the mother denied coins after her son died, wow another new found information, amazing!!
TUMBBAD is definitely one amongst the best Indian Horror movies, the Cinematography, Screenplay and the Casting was absolutely BRILLIANT. Cannot wait for the sequel.
Tumbadd release date was 12 October 2018 and Gully boy release date was 14 February 2019. Were they supposes to send either of the movie for the same year?
This movie had a budget of less than $700k. Which is like a fraction of any mainstream Hollywood or even a Bollywood movie.. To accomplish this in that budget is just impeccable.
This film is Sohum Shah(Lead Actor) dream project, the first draft of the movie was created in 1997, it took 6 years of filming to complete this master piece. One of the best Indian horror movie with great message, world had enough for your need but not for your greed.
It's just a movie about who is the real ghost man with greedyness who actually destroyed his family for money or just a cursed god who just want some food to live his life. That's just a cycle of Greedyness which was finally broken by his son. His family was completely cursed but they are finally released. Love this movie.
I don’t watch horror movie at all, but my mate insisted me too much to watch it, telling me it’s not actually horror movie. I almost gave up in between cause it was really creepy and scary as hell but finished it at the end but I was totally blown away. One of the best movie I ever saw.
This got no support from big production houses and got less no. Of Screens. Soham Shah himself produced this film and thats why it took about 5-7 years. Now this film is considered as one the best horror film in India. Like everything from set design to storyline is excellent and piece of art. I am big fan of horror movies and trust when I first watched it I was scared and thrilled by the atmosphere it builds In movie.
Fact :- In the last scene when he gives a bag of gold to his son and his son refuses to take that bag, then he laughed but he is really happy that his son is no longer greedy.
I wouldn't say it's horror. It's more like a mythological movie on greed with horror elements in it.. But a great movie still. Especially with a very small budget compared to other big bollywood movies 😌
The main character.. The father smiled at last.. Because at the end, his son learned the lesson!! It might be the end of the trail of greed in the family!! At last he cared about his father not coins and he burned him for the salvation!! (Dude, I am more mature than my past, well we all circles that!!) Edit :- thanks for reading my coment, and sorry for wasting your time, I always write a big paragraphs with only 30 to 40 percent making any sense!!

U must also watch making of this movie. This movie is epic and the efforts they put in it are just endless. This movie deserved an OSCAR entry from INDIA but GULLY BOY was sent to OSCAR but OSCAR doesn't accept same concept movie and Gully boy was not an original concept and it got rejected. THIS MOVIE DESERVED AN OSCAR ENTRY AS IT WAS AN ORIGINAL STORY, ORIGINAL CONCEPT AND ENDLESS HARDWORK❤️
Its more underrated...even in India ppl dont wanna see this bcz no big stars in this movie. Such a shitty audience they are...you reacted to it....Thank u!
They are making that white circle with wheat flour just like the dolls. Hastar cannot touch that wheat flour because it is something that isn't offered to him. He can only eat something if it's offered to him like those dough dolls
most part of movie was shoot just in rain, which takes many years to just capture the original timeline n whole original environment pure dedication n art.
This was movie was a masterpiece cause of cinematography and the message it had, hunger is satisfied only by food , wealth doesn't satisfy a hungry stomach, hence hastar ran after food as he was starving with all the wealth with him and greedy humans ran after wealth and ended up paying for it ..
Love this Chanel any chance when you guys have the time you could react to a Swedish horror movie called let the right one in or even ju on the grudge 2 I think both of you will like that even more than the first keep up the good work love from Brazil 🇧🇷
You must have a lot of people who love you because no one was searching for Tumbbad. I loved this! Do more like it but also do 13 Ghosts because I love it.
1. What if you make a bigger circle to save yourself, then take a gun and fire at them. They might die, but i know they are mythical creatures so they won't die. But they could have tried. 2. Make a protective suit of armour around you and go there and lock that creature in some trap, by luring it using a doll. And make a protective circle big enough. 3. Since, you are safe until you, offer him a doll, then you can make a big 2-4 layers concentric circle even of 1 st broke they'll be safe. And repeat 2nd step.
13:13 Sorry to say. But it's kind of implied that The characters supporting the British government are evil. Hence its still anti British because it kinda shows only greedy people supported the British government while people like Gandhi fought against it.
The kid didn’t take the coins in the end. It broke the cycle of greed so wrath of other gods also stopped which stopped the rain in the end when kid leaves the door.
One of the best horror movies ever made in India. It took them 7 years to make n the USP of the movie is it doesn’t have the typical Booo !!!! moments anywhere it’s more like phycological scaring!!!!
It wasn't a high budget movie like most of the bollywood movies. It's one of those very rare good hindi movies & that's coming from a SouthIndian. Beautiful cinematography & narration & the casting is too good.
Guys this movie is delayed by almost 6 years coz no one was ready to produce this film. after years Sohum Shah came up as producer and actter as well And HE ALMOST GOT BANK CORRUPT HE HAD TO SOLD HIS SOME AMOUNT OF PROPERTY FOR COMPLETION OF THIS FILM!! now you can see mentality of bollywood !! and this movie is not for everyone thats it's not as big as RRR or KGF!!
KAITHI film is so underrated, even when it has the potential to entertain audience outside INDIA. Jaby Koay watched and reviewed it. Atleast take a look at the Trailer. The film is simply amazing.💥💥💥💥
Now please delve into Indian crime genre cinema. Gangs of Wasseypur is a masterpiece by director Anurag Kashyap. Its on Netflix as part 1 and part 2. It was shot as a single 5 hour movie but as theaters disagreed to release a 5 hour movie, they released it in two halves....part 1 and part 2. Even Martin Scorcese wrote a letter to the director appreciating his work.
