You guys definitely need to watch the prequel "Pearl". It leans more to the dramatic, but it depicts Pearl's descent into madness perfectly. Also, the prequel "Pearl" has an Oscar worthy performance from Mia Goth.

I think you made a good point about how respectful the crew was to the older couple…I think the movie does a good job of making you see them as humans and not just see them for what their job is, and the assumptions people would have about them because of it.

Just watched Pearl a few days ago and I just loved the movie and above all, her incredible performance very quickly, I have not seen "X" yet, I have only come here to find comments highlighting the performances, the work, the cast, etc. Damn, the hype I have is unmatched.

Btw Hannah is right. Mia goth played both Maxine and the old woman pearl. There’s a movie about the old woman called peal. It’s apart of a trilogy To West is doing. The last part is called Maxxxine and should be out this year if I’m not mistaken. You should definitely do all of them. Just for the technical brilliance of the filmmaking.

I’m gonna join the chorus of voices requesting Pearl, the prequel. I recommend watching X again afterwards to notice a TON of clever Easter eggs. Hannah is correct-Mia Goth played both Maxine and Pearl. I dressed as Maxine 2 Halloweens ago, the iconic overalls with cowboy boots and blue eyeshadow look. This is such a fun movie!

Julia Stiles in Dexter, did a scream offscreen when a video of her being raped and tortured was being watched. It still haunts me. You don't see anything, just hear her, but I could never watch that scene again. I've never heard a scream convey total agony and fear more than that one.

Nobody was expecting indie legend Ti West's return to horror to be so instantly iconic, but what we got in this bizarre and beautifully gruesome slow burn gem was more than reason enough for it to get the status it does. I already know you'll fall in love with Mia Goth after this, and I think you'll love Pearl WAY more!

I've been in Texas around 20 years now and I can 100% say that I've never seen, been around, or heard of anything like the events in this film. I'm either extraordinarily lucky or maybe I'm just not out in the rural areas enough. This might be one of my favorite reactions from y'all, though, because it was comedy perfection.

In X Mia Goth firmly placed herself as one of the best up and coming scream queens in the game. In Pearl she proves she's much more....an undeniably talented powerhouse of an actress giving us a truly oscar worthy performance for the ages. What will we get in MaXXine? this is one of my FAVORITE movies and one of the reasons for that is all of the little details that end up tying everything together. i always notice something new when i watch it and this time it was hannah pointing out the blue eyeshadow on the dolls. you also notice a lot of parallels when you watch it back to back with pearl (another one of my favorites)

This is an awesome film in so many ways. As some people already mentioned, Mia Goth, who played the surviving character, Maxine, also played the old woman, Pearl (and also, Mia Goth most certainly has that X factor). You really need to watch the movie “Pearl.” It’s a prequel that came out later in the same year that “X” came out (both movies were filmed back to back). It shows Pearl in the early 20th century (I believe 1919) as a young woman. It’s deliberately filmed very differently than X and has a bright, colorful “Wizard of Oz”-like golden age of cinema look and feel to it, juxtaposed against a story that is equal parts horror, psychological thriller, and character study. Additionally, a sequel called “Maxxxine” is coming out later this year, stars the surviving character from X, and takes place in the 80’s.

The cow is like a double reference to Texas Chainsaw, like you mentioned. In the OG film, they pass that armadillo. In TCM: The Beginning (one of the better reboot prequels), the group of victims actually strike a cow and flip their truck during a car chase. Lots of direct winks at that series and others like it that make this one a fun rewatch.
