Joel I bought a z4 3.0 m performance 2004 one week ago. I started to watch your videos right now, thank you for the empathy.Greetings from Verona, Italy.
There she goes, 500 likes Joel! Great video mate, inspired me to buy my Z4 3.0 earlier this year. I took my Z to Blyton Park last week (Fri 27th Aug 2021), belting day. See you on the track sometime.
Hi Joel, it was me in the E36 👋. Was good seeing you out on track. You were hustling that Z4 nicely, particularly for your first time on track with it. It sounded very nice as well! Nice video👌 Tim
I agree mate. I often think about getting something else, but then I weigh up the pro's and con's and end up keeping my zed. It offers a great blend of performance and economy. Driven sensibly I'm still surprised how good on fuel it can be considering its a 3.0.
Im very pleased to hear that mate, cant wait to see what you get next?.I know i will like it because you've got great taste as a 3.0i z4 owner.Keep up the great work Joel.
You've got the same logic as me,i agree totally,i think you cant find a better looking or sounding car for the same sort of money.Fuel economy is superb for a 3.0,small frontal area and not a being heavy car really helps.
I don’t want to say ‘I told you so’ BUT.... definitely do some more. It’s the best thing ever and you get to know your car & general car handling without having cars, pedestrians, bicycles and anything else coming at/around you! One thing perhaps worth doing is a brake upgrade, at the least some harder pads and a higher grade brake fluid. I found these 2 things made a big difference avoiding brake fade. Thanks for sharing 👍
Just got an 04 3.0i 74k manual after watching your videos for a few months! Great car I now understand your enthusiasm. Gets around people really effectively for a 16 year old car! And that sound.. Great info as always. Cheers from ohio usa.
Hey Joel, I think your Z4’s performance was the result of a capable car being driven very well. Impressed with your heel and toe changes. I have an E85 but have trouble getting my right foot on a good angle to hit both the brake and accelerator ... can you please demonstrate how you angle your foot for your heel and toe changes. Thanks!
@@andyl-d6633 On the off-case Joel misses it, I heel-toe in my E85 by using my big toe for brake, and rolling my other toes over for gas. Takes a bit of practice, but I can do it in sneakers, boots, and dress shoes
Congrats on your first track day!! I'd say you're hooked on track days already. In order of importance upgrade the brakes first, be sure to get DOT 4 brake fluid and stainless steel lines, then suspension upgrades, then power if you want to really spend money. I've taken my 06 Z4 3.0si to two track days, one at The Milwaukee MIle last year and one at Road America last week, what a great experience to finally know what these cars can do. I was able to get to 130mph on the front stretch at RA...with the top down.
Best video you've made Joel. Car sounds amazing! You looked very calm throughout, not sure how you held it together 100mph through those bends lol. Just bought a 2.2l Z4 last week and loving the drive! Keep posting your content :)
Great video, my favourite yet ,impressed with your driving skills, is this your first track day? Cool commentary whilst on the limit.A potential top year presenter for sure knock the spots off Paddy and Freddie. Keep up the good work Joel 👍
Great video the z4 is a great track car I’ve taken mine around castle Coombe couple years ago and it surprised a lot of other cars on the circuit I didn’t expect that to happen they handle pretty well it’s inspiring me to take mine again
The fun you had really came across on camera. Really makes me want to get something sporty and have some fun with it when I can afford too get insured on something more powerful
Great video Joel. I’ve done a few sprints at Goodwood and love the track - so quick! Definitely want to do a track day there as it’s the best way to learn the track. Great to see you passing all those Fords and Lotus’s ! Glad you had such a great time. I’ve done a couple of track days at Abingdon and Brands and desperate to get out again now.
Just a thought. There is a gap between the AC evaporator and radiator that sometimes fills with stuff impeding air flow. Take off the plastic cover and use a piece of cardboard to punch out the debris between the heat exchangers.
Track days are a must for the Z4. Engine never run smoother since first track day. Taken mine to Silverstone, Donington Park and Snetterton so far. Recommend sports performance discs & pads 👍
Best video so far I think mate. Must admit you laughing as the yellow GT let u passed did make me giggle. In the words of old Bruce Forsyth DIDN'T SHE DO WELL. Very impressed with how she did. Out of interest mate what did the whole day cost u in the end? Half a tank wasn't bad.
Was so much fun. I didn’t actually pay for the track day, but think the whole day is about £250. I used a whole tank of fuel in the end (only filmed up to about half way through the day) may need to renew the brakes but that’s about it
Hey Joel! Brilliant video! Definitely echo what someone else mentioned here, a heel and toe vid would be a good idea, as I find it's difficult to do well on bmw with the floor hinged accelerator pedal
Joel that's a brilliant video, has really inspired me to try and get my e86 3.0si coupe on the track. Will probably plan to replace the brakes afterwards!
@@itsjoel Man to be honest... this is my first 2 seater so it is definitely a unique feeling. But i have come from "faster" HP/Torque cars and this is still a unique feeling. LONG LIVE THE Z
WOW!! Looked so FUN!! I might take my new 2004 E85 Z4 3.0i out sometime. Just got it, just learning its abilities and you showed with good tires and good brakes it can do alot on a road course. I have offset wheels, is that standard on the 3.0I? Falkon in the front and BF Goodrich in the rear. MIne is just like yours exceot I have a left hand drive ( here in the USA ) only have 43000 miles and I have the sport seats, they really lock you in to place. Keep up the GREAT videos :)
Fantastic video Joel your car looked amazing out on track and completely at home, it looks a lot of fun. Was there any issues with your car following the track day?
I believe it’s around an extra 30-40 Bhp if you call some companies they will be able to give you an exact figure. It’ll definitely be allot quicker. 👌
Nice driving. Maybe the backbox delete makes the engine a bit more freeflowing? Put it in a dyno and find out. Or those guys aren't as experienced as they think they are.. Great fun, I usually go to the Nurburgring myself!
Great video, that Z4 sounds fantastic! You sure can drive it well. Don't ever sell it will you! BTW you're selling me on those Pirellis. My Z4 came with budget tyres but once they're worn out I'll try and get some Pirellis instead.
Brilliant!! looks a great day out. Given the comments on how fast you were (taking nothing away from your driving talents! :) ) do you think a previous owner could have mapped the car??
you seemed to get the best out of the car; so the boy racer skills developed on roundabouts and Italian tune ups seem to have paid off!?!?; as suggested a brake fluid upgrade, possible braided lines and some EBC green or yellow stuff pads, should see significant gains in braking performance and less brake dust (and still be suitable for road). I've never gotten round to taking mine on track, but sorely tempted. That's a nasty hump at the end of the straight that just unsettles the car as you brake into the 1st corner (seen it catch out plenty at the various Goodwood events). what db reading did you get on the static?
Follow up question: my electric steering has often felt vague at speed - how did it feel on the track? I always imagined it would be difficult to control accurately...
Just booked up a track day on Sept 4th at the Castle Combe circuit for my Z4, tried Goodwood but they're booked up till November, Castle Combe also half the price of Goodwood, fancy another day out Joel?
What’s involved in track days? What kind of checks did they do on your car? Always interested in heading to one but never knew what’s involved and if my car is track worthy
@@itsjoel yeah I feel ya. I have a modded rear box so I'm lucky that I don't get any drone. But at certain rpm's the sound with foam out goes right through your noggin lol. Or maybe it's just me getting old 😂.
What's the electric steering like on the track? I know daily driving it's not that big of a deal but I feel like track driving with the non m Z's steering would be a nightmare!
Great video buddy! Interesting that on mine I was probably able to do the same lap times as you (quicker in corners but slower on straights) but was one of the slower cars out there! Can't believe people asked if yours was stock - it's all down to the driving! 500 likes and I'll join you with Luke ;)
@@itsjoel really impressive driving especially in a stock car. Reading reviews online a lot of people say these z4's aren't great round track but that looked awesome tbh
Haha thanks buddy! There was a fair amount of body roll and it could do with more power for the straights, but you can really push it the whole time which is extremely rewarding
A fair cost effective brake upgrade for the fronts are to replace them with the callipers and dics off of a 330i. They do make a difference being slightly bigger. Also like the other guys said. Braided lines. New fluid. Decent pads.
I'm strongly considering getting a Z4 2.0l as my first car, but at 150 bhp my parent's aren't sure, I'm passing my test next month at 20 nearly 21 years old though as I hadn't neede it until now, so do you think it's okay at that sort of age even as first car?
Max, you're a grown man. Your parents are there to worry about you. Your job is to honour them while going out there and taking life by the scruff of the neck. So yes, buy the car but don't drive it like a twat!
@@wungabunga ahaha indeed what I was thinking, but the thing is that the car will be a gift from them to me, so obviously they have to agree first. If I had my own money I'd go for atleast the 2.2i just to get that juicy straight 6 but at 170bhp that's not going to get past my parents ahaha. I'll probably just sell this car in a year and buy the higher power one anyway
Being totally honest, I would stay well clear of the 2.0 4 cyl. They seemed to be riddled with reliability issues unlike the 6cyls. Perhaps mention that to the parents, and the fact that the 6 cylinders are generally more fuel efficient and cheaper to insure and see if they’ll swing
Dude you need to loosen the adjusting ring on your power steering. I can already see the sticky steering as youre turning.. Its gonna kill you bro. Get that fixed
Why do attack day in a convertible. They twist and flop all over the place! Get a proper car if your serious otherwise go for a cruise through the bush!
